Avatar: The Last Dicebender (A:TLA/A:LOK Quest)

I feel like not choosing it has a big opportunity cost.

The option sounds like a classical romantic set up, getting a pretty lady to come over to help with homework despite not having homework. And Tie rather does seem like he considers her attractive, and is trying to deny it to himself, one of his stated reasons for not falling in love at first sight being "girls are yucky"

To me, it sounds like the standard crush on a female teacher that most young boys have at some point. Not something that will be taken seriously by her or pursued seriously by us. Especially since we know IC that shes married. And 25 years older than us. Besides I want to take the option to develop bonds with people besides the White Lotus or our family. She has a lot to potentially teach us besides just bending. I'm sure she has a unique point of view about the world, politics, etc. I want to actually become close to the people who teach us to master the 4 elements.

Besides, I feel like you're taking it for granted that riding Roku is guaranteed to give us a reputation or lead us to the palace. On the First note, I'm sure plenty of exotic animals have come through the highly urban Fire Nation capital and we know that they already have soldiers who ride exotic animals. The only potential kind of reputation I see us getting is a negative one if we cause some trouble accidentally which would be pretty bad this early on in our stay here. Second of all, I assume the security around the palace and the royalty is fairly strict and would be unlikely to let us in because we're riding a potentially dangerous animal. We are the Avatar so we definitely have an in anyway whenever we want to visit, but riding Roku around town isn't likely to get us in.

It's a crush we are choosing to persue by virtue of choosing the option of having her help with our Homework. She will not take it seriously, yeah, but still. It doesn't sound like that productive of a scene, and wouldn't get us to know her that much, since that is what the Social Action is for.

The only thing I'm fairly sure will happen is the reputation one. For from the sound of the prompt, we won't just be riding around, but we will be being chased by racing with Soldiers who are trying to stop us. That will get us a reputation, and even if it's a bit negative, its not THAT bad. It's the kind of Hijinks Aang got into, and Korra would have gotten into if we weren't born. It'd get us a reputation as "That kid with a Shirshew that ran all over the place" at worst. Thinking we are coooky at worst.
As for the Palace and the Family, security in the world of Avatar is not that secure, especially if we get in out of control "race" with the Soldiers. Again, this is the World of Avatar, and either accidentally crashing into the Palace or happening upon the Royal Family in our ride around town is perfectly in theme with what would happen in Avatar. And even if neither of those things happen, it's possible that the Guards would TAKE us to the Royal Family and/or Royal Palace, so they can decide what to do with us before the White Lotus comes along.

Even if we don't get teh Family or the Palace, we'd be achieving one of our mid-term goals right away.

Fair enough on the reputation. While it is something that could happen in the Avatar universe, its still chancy. The only guaranteed "reward" I see is getting better at riding and the reputation. But I *personally* don't place too much value on riding while reputation and access to the palace/royal family can be gained with other options that also have other "rewards" that again, I *personally* value more.

Edit: Realized I didn't talk about the crush. Anyway... we will be spending at least 2 of our training actions with her automatically. Our crush isn't just going to go away but not having extra interactions with her. If anything, leaving our time with her solely focused on training might increase the crush as we see how badass she is (this is obviously speculation though). And I don't think learning more about her or being taught by her in our spare time is out of the question just because we have a crush on her. If we tell her we want some help with homework, at the very least she will come with the purpose of teaching us whether or not we have ulterior motives.

Plus, this is kinda meta but, if the only point of getting her to help with our homework is to pursue a crush on her, a crush that is obviously not going to go anywhere, I just don't see Birdie offering that as a choice.

From what i got, the main point was for us to pick what fun scene we want to read. Hijinks with no long-term effect. We could choose hijinks which DO have significance, but not all hijinks are significant.

[X] PLAN: preparing for the future.

[X] Get you Bending scrolls from all nations. "I'm into learning that kind of stuff."
- i know that the idea of representation sounds nice, but let's face it the current monarchy would ignore us and the sand bender tribes have never before needed it yet. as for the police thing, character-wise we would want to get in on our own merits not through backdoor deals. this option might clue him in to that we are the avatar, but let's face it that is something that will become known anyway.

[X] (Spiritual Prodigy.) Enlightening. You compare the many sights to old stories and wisely ascertain the people of the city, describing the local life.
- i just like this option on a personal level.

[X] Speak to Master Jirou out of boredom. As much as you hate to bother the old man, you will bother the old man. Maybe play Pai Sho with him?
- more pai sho more iroh!

social:
[X] Roku.
- we haven't really had a social moment with our animal guide, i feel like we should have at least one as he's the family that's here.

[X] Master Shiko.
- should be obvious why. (.Y.) ... no seriously she's our master and we should get to know her.

Select three training focuses for the next year. You can select one option numerous times. Due to your Master's input, two of the training options automatically go to Firebending and Physical Exercise:
[X] Meditation.
-[X] Meditation.
-[X] Chakra Control.
-- as much as i'd like to train our bending, i really don't want to fail another earth chakra roll.

[X] Enroll in a school. (Eats up one training focus per turn, but gives benefits later in life and grants knowledge.)
- yeah, i feel like having knowledge in engineering and other theoretical/practical skills is worth it, plus the whole uneducated world leader vibe if we don't take this option, just seems kinda dumb to me.

[x] Plan: Meditative Avatar
[x] Help your tribe by sending them supplies, like water and food, especially during arid seasons.

[x] Roku.

[x] Meditation.
-[x] Chakra Control. (This is the one that makes us better at chakras right? Not just randomly spamming the attempt right?)

[x] Enroll in a school. (Eats up one training focus per turn, but gives benefits later in life and grants knowledge.) (Unlikely to be popular but it has several upsides, especially if machine/city spirits turn out to be a thing, and frankly technology and the social shifts that come with it are going to be more important than ever in the coming decades.)

i don't want one of our first interactions with master shiko to be lying so i didn't want to choose that option even if it meant that we might get some extra training in.
i think that most people want a standard education for the avatar so probably many people will elect that.
meditation is added to the rolls, but i think you are right about the chakra control so i changed my plan to go half-half.
edit: though the idea of help is nice, the tribe no doubt has ways to prepare for a rainy (or in this case draughty) day. The scrolls on the other hand directly help us.

... I'm confused. Why was my plan quoted? I don't think I'm lying to anyone about anything with plan Meditative.

Could I convince you to replace this part of the plan with Riding Roku through the town? That will very likely get us a reputation, completing that Ambition, and could very easily snowball into the ambition See The Royal Palace and/or Meet the Fire Lords Daughter. Far more productive than embarrasingly bad romance attempts.

Plus, important note. Girls are yucky.
Amended as requested.

[X] Plan Tié and Avatar
-[X] Help me become a police officer in Republic City one day. Maybe that dream is not yet to be abandoned
-[X] Excited. You tell about the things you've seen so far with fanfare; all the sights, smells, sounds, and to try rock candy.
-[X] Take Roku for a spin around town. You wonder if any soldiers will show up to stop you. Wonder if you can race 'em?
-[X] Huesar.
-[X] Yang.
-[X] Bending.
--[X] Earthbending.
-[X] Enroll in a school.
-[X] Riding Roku.

On phone so eghck. Will explain reasons. Maybe. Maybe not.

This seems a bit unfair. Failing this is mostly beyond our control because we've just been rolling poorly, not because of bad decision we've made.

We haven't even been given the option to stop trying to open it while we work on improving our spiritual rolls, so it's not like we've been pushing it unnecessarily.

And it's a short-term ambition, so why should it have severe repercussions for anything but a crit failure?
It's not "the world will end" repercussions, just a few penalties (that are easily reversible,) that might set you back, depending on how you deal with it. Also, since you've chosen it as an Ambition (ie: something Tie wants to do,) he'll do it when he can.

This is the most interesting combination for me. Builds some good habits, plus leaves room for some fun and some practical matters. Also hopefully allows for that next chakra point to be opened safely soon-ish.

Most uncertain part for me is the school option. Will definitely be a formative experience, and part of me worries about the possibility of negative effects, however unlikely.
