[X] Shoot first, shoot often. Sucker punch the Lystheni with an all-out assault. You possess the advantage of quality. An alpha strike could easily burn half of the Lystheni's ships before they get their engines started, and secure the battle.
-[X] Make sure to secure the recording of this negotiation.

[X] Play it cool. Depart in your own shuttle without comment to anybody. Get off of this toothless platform before the shooting starts.

Edit: for those voting for anything else please remember that Salarian doctrine follows the guide lines of alpha strikes as well overwhelming preemptive strikes. leaving in ashuttle is probably one of the things they were told to look for and if they see it to eliminate the shuttle. our best bet to my mind is to not leave the station until after the second wave of attacks from our fleet

The Lystheni may not follow a normal salarian doctrine, BUT given how blatantly their predictions about our plans mirror how their own society works, I'm pretty sure they made plans for:

1) What would happen if the Dalatrass succeeded in kidnapping Mira,
2) What would happen if Mira managed to kidnap the Dalatrass first, AND
3) What would happen if the Dalatrass tried to kidnap Mira and failed.

Thus, it behooves us not to create a situation in which they can carry out their plans for contingencies (2) and (3), especially not if the plan is something as simple as 'blow up their shuttle.'

I was tempted to vote...

[] Write-in
-[] Force the Dalatress at gunpoint to record a message of her ordering local troops to stand down as we leave, with any appropriate codes. Make a second recording of her declaring she's been captured after she attempted to betray us during negotiations, and that the Lystheni are to surrender unconditionally and comply with any orders we give.

...But the problem with voting this way is that it gives the Lystheni squadron warning of what's going on. If they have a planned reaction like "blow up all the Virmirean warships, then demand we surrender ourselves into their custody because the Dalatrass already informed them that they should kill her and acknowledge her successor rather than surrender in this exact scenario," I'd rather NOT let the Lystheni take a shot at executing that plan.

The station is probably the safest place as long as they think the Dalatrass is alive.

Hope this ends quick because all I really care about is the 'Why' at this point.

I'm a little tempted to specify some form of "take action to be able to escape if the platform takes fire", but I assume that Mira is competent enough to think of such things without micromanaging. (Such as having everyone who can get in EVA gear, etc.)

Also tempted to try a "surrender or the Dalatrass gets it" transmission, but I suspect it would be a bluff, given Mira's temperament.

You guys ever play EUIV? Ever have that fun experience of being in the middle of winning a war against the Ottomans and then watching their itty bitty neighbors declare on them because the AI sees their military is weakened? Then five seconds after you peace out the Ottos steamroll all those little nations and annex them?

Something about this last update really tickled those old memory banks.

I am not entirely sure it would be a bluff given Mira's present temperament and mood, but I'm against it in large part because I strongly suspect the Dalatrass prepared against this development. And by making the transmission we'd be giving up the element of surprise in battle between our squadron and the Lystheni squadron.

An observation, though.

"Or your matriarch puppet master will die here, and then your guards, and then you, if you push it that far."

Why did she say those three words in particular?

Oh, also -

Screw you guys. Gunboat diplomacy, ho!

Given their sheer levels of paranoia, it seems like the safest option.

Because she, like probably most of the galaxy once they learn that Matriarch Kirai is alive and a major part of our government, is going to assume that Kirai is in fact in alrge part responsible for pulling our strings. Because nine times out of ten, if someone in nominally charge of a major, complex operation is a young asari... the real power is in the hands of a matriarch.

No big surprise that the Dalatrass thinks Kirai is pulling our strings; she won't be the last.

EDIT:

Honestly, that may be our biggest problem in dealing with asari from the Republics after the Rachni War is over. Namely, all the matron/matriarch asari who take one look at us and say "I would like to speak to your manager."

Open the country, stop having it be closed.

Also those word probably pissed Mira off even more.

We could confuse the **** out of people if we really wanted to though.

Whenever they ask to speak to Mirae we send em over, but she sends them back to us we send them off to a different matriarch so on and so forth.

I'm going to admit I'm mildly disappointed that Kirai survived.

I propose that from now on she stands directly in front of us during meetings.

that would be funny way to handle it. just keep sending them to talk to a random matrachs until they realize we're fucking with them. We'd need to find at least a few with the right kind of sense of humor though.

So out of idle curosity, we ARE sure this isn't a bodydouble or escaped mental patient, right?
You know how genetic defects are bred for in rat populations in labs for research purposes? I think the Lystheni are the same except selected for paranoia, maybe it's genetic for Salarians.

I don't think we'd need to be so blatant to take advantage. Though note, Kreia Kirai will be the assumed power behind us, not Marae. She has a history as the much higher level political player. Heh. I wonder if she followed our orders to practice with a pistol?

because it's weird as fuck for a matriarch to be working for a maiden, but fairly common for a maiden to be controlled by a matriarch in the shadows.
And I gather it's "fairly common" as in the sense of "the basis of Asari society and hierarchy, with deference to Matriarchs ingrained to a near-instinctual level".

The Dalatrass responded to your demands by trying to take you hostage.

You are on a disarmed defense platform, with all Lystheni soldiers dead and the Dalatrass captured.
Question, if you don't mind the peek behind the curtain. Did you make rolls for this in the background (especially how well Mira and the assorted Virmiran Marines coped with sudden combat) or is it narrative-based at this time?
