[X] Soren might have the right idea on finding showrooms. It could be good to get some information on the latest tech.
[X] This is going to be painful, but you need to make sure you have enough money for the auction. You're going to try for all three.

Just a personal preference on the piloting vote. I like melee and getting into the thick of the fight, but I'm fine with just being that good at the basics, and who doesn't love dakka? I'd normally think the showroom would be a waste of time only there because SV loves its tech wank, but given we're going to be target practice for this stuff soon, I can see some real value in knowing how it could kill us and how to avoid it.

As for the events, go big or go home. We need the money for the Mcguffin, and for whatever comes after. The showcase is first and the most likely to knock us out if things go badly, but still has the best flat pay. We make it through that, and surviving the reenactment should be easy as pie. Which just leaves the actual tournament part of the tournament. Not great odds or chance of making it far, but every little bit helps. And if we do get luckly and fight a few scrubs before a professional, so much the better. Even more if we do well against the pro.

So that's my plan. Live through being a test dummy, put in a half decent show at the reenactment, then do our best at the tournament. We'll get a great pay check, more then what the auction should cost, a lot of fighting experience, possibly with multiple Zoids, and we do well enough even some notoriety, which is its own form of protection when dealing with shadowy organizations that mean you harm. It's easy to disappear a no name nobody, much harder to snatch the surprise up and comer pilot without someone making a fuss.

[X] You have no idea how high the auction will go…. You better try for two.
-[X] A showcase. It has one of the better payouts and that's regardless of what your personal performance is.
-[X] The reenactment. The propaganda piece will pay well enough and with enough other Zoids no one should be trying to crush you to show off.

... I'm sorry man, but that's word salad there at the end.

My main questions are: If these are opposed rolls, what does each die need to roll to be considered a "success", as well as how the DC when not using an opposed roll is decided.

Damn. So average difficulty when not opposed rolls is usually 2 bad die. I'll try and type up a better explanation later when not on mobile. Or might just convert out of proprietary die. Probably can hack something easier to explain using story teller as a base... Will spend time working this out more. Let me know if people have opinions or preferences on system. I want to avoid making things too confusing or getting things bogged down with numbers.

Vote will be called in roughly 24 hours with then somewhere between 1 and 2 days before update. And are there any other questions people have for me?

Come on people, let's go three for three! We're already doing a showcase, and that's the most dangerous by far. Not only are we being put against a much better Zoid and pilot, but if we go down, they are expected to keep attacking us to fill time. At least the tournament gives as a real chance at winning a couple rounds, and if we lose a match they're unlikely to kill us just to pad out the match.

Calling vote about 12 hours later than meant to because things came up.

An Ancient as a Modern Gladiator Day 0.4
You clean up your plate and hit the streets. You might as well have some warning about what will be presented in showcases. And maybe what might be a good investment if you have anything left over after the auction.

The showrooms are big. That might be an understatement. It's just…. Okay, maybe this because you grew up out in the boonies where the number of Zoids in the village can be counted on one hand but these show spaces are huge. Sure, the majority of buildings here are taller than what you had back home. That makes sense. But this place is bigger than the field mom taught you to pilot it. And it's more packed than the market in town ever was. You're pretty sure that banner is taller than your house.

… Okay, time to stop gawking. Large enough crowd with a diverse enough people that you don't stand out. No one is going to notice another… (Choose one)

So no reason to draw attention to yourself by gawking.

Center stage is ZOITEC. They have plenty of employees walking the floor and… Are those really standard uniforms? It's basically a vest with the company logo and shorts… You guess you'll just ignore them for now. You think most of their sales people have correctly recognized you as having no real money and are thankfully leaving you be.

ZOITEC is selling some very classic Zoids like Command Wolfs and Shield Ligers with their own improvements. But if you're going to be honest, they mostly seem to be slightly different weapon loadouts and color schemes than the Republic standard. The bigger centerpiece is their work with the new Blox core Zoids they've been developing. You don't really have much experience with the type; they're far less common out in the sticks. The Zoids themselves are smaller. Despite both being lion type Zoids, their 'Leoblaze' is roughly have the size of the nearby Shield Liger. Surprised they have the two right next to each other. They even have a comparison of the two different types of core out and…

Those aren't models! The cables are attached for a reason. Why the hell do they have two living cores out on display?!

There's enough people in the way that you can't exactly get close, but you can still feel them enough to recognize life. The core size difference isn't as large. The spherical core of a normal Zoid is a bit larger than that of the blox which has its core being a rough cube. Looking closer you think you can even spot where it is on the Leo Blaze… Is that safe? Is the core supposed to be less fragile and more armored now? And why couldn't they just create a mock up rather than put two still living cores out in the open like that.

Okay, moving on. You are very much done with ZOITEC right now.

The company getting the second largest amount of real estate is the Helic based D-Herman Corporation. It spun off from the Helic Republic's military science division and was responsible for the majority of advancements that allowed them victory in the war. Or at least that's what their pamphlet said. They have some displays set up showcasing their latest models for the Command Wolf, Shield Liger, Blade Liger, and Gojulas with other less flashy lines regulated to listings on signs and booklets. But their main display seems to be pushing the flexibility and power of two models in particular.

There is the Liger Zero, an almost infamously hard to pilot model. It is almost notorious for absolutely refusing to be piloted. In fact you can even feel the display model's disdain for being here. But they are pushing it for its unique Changing Armor System. Different loadouts for different matchups to ensure the advantage while never requiring you to have a second Zoid… Only the base model is pricey enough on its own. They do have three armor models on display specializing in speed, melee combat, and ranged combat but the cost more than some Zoids on their own. It seems like way too much investment for a Zoid notorious for refusing pilots. You can respect the attitude, but the prize tag? Yeesh. There is a reason some consider it schmuck bait. A good number of teams and pilots have bankrupted themselves for what turns out to be just a shiny display piece taking up valuable hangar space.

The second new model they are pushing is the Shadow Fox. By base it has a wide arrange of capabilities along with a lot of nice gimmicks that can give it an edge in a fight. They're display boasts that it is the only 'stealth' Zoid capable of more than holding its own if ever forced into a fair fight. It is also perfectly compatible with a variety of weapon systems that the D-Herman Corporation and their various associates will be more than happy to sell.

They also have a poster announcing that they have a special display for a joint project… on the opposite side of the show room floor past every other competitor's displays. Makes you surprised they didn't take center stage from ZOITEC to have both the first and last word. Well you were planning to walk around and give everything a quick look anyways. Shame you can't spot Soren and just get him to tell you about the surprise and save your time.

ZI-Arms might of lost out to their chief rivals and the Helic Republic's own manufacturer in terms of space, but they are certainly making do with what they have. They've become who you go to for most formerly Imperial heavy hitters like the Iron Kong or the Red Horn. They are also the premier seller of what they claim is still the fastest Zoid around, the Lightning Saix. And they aren't staying out of the Blox game either, showing off a dinosaur type one called the Parablade.

But the crown jewel of the Zi-Arms display? They have one of the most devastating Imperial Zoids ever produced on display. The Geno Breaker. It and its predecessor, the Geno Saurer, are both two of the few Zoids to be equipped with one of Zi's most devastating weapons, the Charged Particle Cannon. If having a gun capable of melting through almost all armor is not enough, it also comes with terrifying X-Breaker claws in case you thought maybe you could take it in melee. And as a bonus it has some powerful thrusters just to remind you that running is futile. Thankfully they are incredibly rare and difficult to manufacture... Well, not thankfully if you ever decide to buy them.

Next is Schubaltz Industries, a Guylos Union based developer. They have given banner space to advertise classic designs like the Saber Fang and do not fail to mention that they of course produce their own high quality Geno Saurers and Geno Breakers. But the Zoid on display is their rival to the Liger Zero, the Berserk Fury. Similar to the Geno Saurer and Geno Breaker, the Berserk Fury is a dinosaur type Zoid with a Charged Particle Cannon. But while it doesn't carry the prefix of 'Geno,' it might as well be the next in the line for them. Superior specs are then traded off by being just as infamously stubborn as the Liger Zero. As in it often chooses its pilot rather than the other way around too. Sometimes more violently. Meaning it can be a very pricey paperweight of only theoretical deadliness. It also apparently has its own Changing Armor System, something that Schubaltz Industries is more than proud to announce. It's default armor, long thought it's only armor, comes with multi-purpose 'buster claws' capable of boosting its already deadly Charged Particle Cannon about 300%. The new one's called the Storm Unit and trades those out. It instead copies the Geno Breaker and takes up X-Busters and high power thrusters. And both the base unit and the new armor make it so the Liger Zero's price tags aren't as unreasonable.

Schubaltz Industries has also been developing Blox style Zoids with a model called the Lord Gale on display. The Lord Gale even seems to be a bragging point, they call out on its display that despite being a Blox type it stands tall. And it does, being taller than a good number of regular Zoids. They also advertise some smaller Blox Zoids on flyers like something called the Demonshead as parts of automated defense systems. Seems like the wrong place to be showcasing an automated system. Any tournament should show that living pilots have an advantage.

Finally Marroll Manufacturing, hailing from the country with the same name, also has a small area near the back. For Zoids, they're mostly selling discounted models. Either old models that were left or pre-owned Zoids that have been sold after their owner upgraded or quit piloting. More reasonably priced, but you probably would want to check in person to ensure you didn't get a lemon rather than trust their catalog. In addition to that, they're selling weapon systems that are theoretically compatible with a large number of Zoids. Assault units, beam cannons, gating guns, booster jets, etc. Offering to help you customize however you want to make your Zoid truly yours. Not bad sell, but way less flashy than everything else on the floor. And their location doesn't help with much.

And now that you've window shopped at all the main vendors, you've found what the D-Herman Corporation has setup. It seems to be in its own separate room and you're going to even have to wait in line to get in. At least there's a sign so you can see if it would be worth it. Along with some pamphlets that look more like a novel. Let's see… "Resurrecting the Ancient Zoids of the Past."

You immediately grab a pamphlet. This can't be good. Your hands shake as you start skimming the pages. Some junk about this being a joint project between the D-Herman Corporation and the Helic Republic military science division with cooperation and assistance from the Guylos Union, Schubaltz Industries, and ZOITEC. Okay, who cares. Details about archaeological digs and historical essays. Like anyone cares about reading that here. Now, lets see… "Legends talk about lost, terrifying weapons that shaped the war. Moments when one side was close to annihilation and the continents were almost destroyed. All due to the power of a single Zoid. After much study and work, we can now confirm their existence after finding some of their remains." Flipping more, you see some diagrams. Large dinosaur type Zoids, scorpion type Zoids, tiger type Zoids. Your head hurts looking at them.

Well, damn. That can't be good. You grasp one arm with the other to calm the shakes. You can't make a scene here.

Do you go look at the exhibit? (Choose one)

Also this update was annoying as hell. Expect a setting sheet update on these companies later.

Might as well since we're already here. Though I'm a bit concerned that some fuckwit it attempting to revive a Death Stinger or Death Saurer. But given that they nearly destroyed a freaking planet before, they can't be that stupid, can they? I mean, not even the Backdraft was stupid enough to do that, they just rebuilt the tail of the Death Stinger and nothing else.

A protagonist should be distinct. It's not like it's that rare in this setting, slightly unusual at best.

Tentatively voting for this, but what do we do instead if we don't check it out? Browse around some more or look to tournament VIPs?

Let's just hope we don't freak out about anything that might be here.

If we have to fight any of these higher end models, we are so dead. Why did they even bring a Liger Zero and a Berserker Fury here? That isn't like mixing oil and water, that's like mixing oil and corn syrup then setting it on fire. And the rest are a nasty bunch too, they really pulled out all the stops. The only good thing is we found a turstworthyish secondhand dealer, and even then that'll only work out if we do really well at the arena. Yesh.

Still, at least we know what we might be fighting tomorrow. It's a resounding and triumphant 'anything', but at least we know by anything they do mean anything.

So I recognize the Death Saurer and the Death Stinger, but whats the Tiger zoid? The Blitz?

To sell them of course. I'd imagine they have some way of locking the Zoids so they cant just take off and start fighting as soon as they see each other.

Regardless of whether look at or not going to have you go finish registration next and then give choice of what to do for the rest of afternoon/evening before tomorrow (where will still have a good chunk of the day free before even pilot).
