I think you might be seeing something that isn't there, man. I'm disagreeing with something someone else wrote, but it's entirely reasonable for him to have come to that conclusion, which is why I'm going back to edit the original source of the confusion? That's all that's happening.

Sorry.

My "this has the potential to escalate to angry shouting, oh crap" radar started pinging really hard.

It may be that the radar's on the fritz.

The way this reads, it's like it's saying the Cult of Shallya's more about making you comfortable as you die than actually treating you, save for the use of divine magic. With that context in mind, the quotation seemed to be saying the contention between doktors and Shallyans came from the former being actually good at medicine and the Shallyans not being good at medicine, rather than only saying that contention between the two exists.
Pretty sure Shallyans like treating people if possible, they just don't extreme versions of it like surgeons and such will, preferring divine or regular means.
That's not how I interpreted it as I was writing it, but sure, I can go back and edit things.
Don't edit, you are GM so your interpretation is what matters in the end since your game.

Edit: I stand corrected.

Nnnno, the issue here is that the claimed interpretation, that of Shallyans not knowing anything at all about surgeries, or medicine, or herbology, or hygiene, etc. is flat out incorrect. That needs to be corrected. Ergo, I need to edit the original post. It's a literal case of 'I think that this is wrong, this is what I think is right' vs. 'what you think is wrong is wrong, and what you think is right is right' with the problem being that the latter right is not communicated well enough resulting in the wrong.

Therefore: edits.

Fair enough.

On a random note I am still really hoping that that the Matriarch summons Triton at some during battle since that would be awesome as heck. Mainly to fight sea monsters really, but would be cool if he smacked an ark or two. :p

Of course, I have no idea how hard that is to do or how much divine juice it takes to do it, so understand if odds not great.

It's funny, thinking of the recent look up north, that while Alexandra may be the more magically inclined of the ice twins, Anna (far as we can tell) has a lot more experience with the more typical forms of magic.

[CANON] Notes of a Nordland trader on the goods preferred by the Eonir - iggyfan

Notes of a Nordland trader on the goods preferred by the Eonir

Ambergris – The Eonir offer good prices for ambergris, with a pound of good quality ambergris able to buy a bottle of good quality elven wine. In addition to being used in perfume the elves of Laurelorn also use it as a component of incense, as a spice and, if rumors can be believed, for more arcane purposes.

Chocolate – Bought in very small quantities for very good prices. A luxury with only a handful of buyers, chocolate is even more exotic to the Eonir than it is for Imperials. Demand is increasing ever so slightly as the years go by, presumably due to more nobles being introduced to the delicacy.

Gemstones – Naturally command high prices. With the exception of amber and, to a lesser extent, pearls the Eonir seem to have few sources for gemstones of their own and those that they do have are rather limited in output. They are used for ornamentation and jewelry of course but are also said to be valued by the enchanters among the elves. While the best prices can be obtained from the Dwarf holds in the World's Edge Mountains, the dwarfs tend to keep the finest specimens for their own kind. As such one should not discount those mines operated by humans as a supplier.

Ivory – Bought in modest amounts. Used for ornamentation, naturally, and also for the crafting of magical items. For the latter purpose ivory can (supposedly) be divided into two categories; Ivory from land dwelling beasts such as elephants, sabretusks, mournfangs, etc. is said to contain Ghur, while Ivory from creatures of the sea such as walruses, narwhals and such supposedly absorbed Ghyran from the ocean. Either way the Eonir will pay good prices for it. Sourcing is the latter variety can be somewhat difficult, becoming exceptionally so if one is unwilling to deal with Norscans.

Livestock – Sold for use as sacrifices. The overwhelming number of livestock purchased are sacrificed shortly after being purchased. Cattle are preferred, a custom I have been told dates to when the ancestors of the Eonir lived on Ulthuan.

Olive oil – A luxury product purchased only on occasion by the wealthy, as the Eonir generally prefer to cook with fat. Still when they do buy olive oil the prices are very good. They expect only high-quality olive oil, as such one should generally attempt to source it from Tilea as a great many of Estalia's best groves were destroyed in the Chaos invasion.

Ores – Ores in general command good prices from the Eonir as they appear to have few mines of their own. Prices of course vary depending on the type and quality of the ore.

Ostka – Surprising I know, but the Eonir buy small amounts of ostka, supposedly for alchemical purposes. As such their expectations of quality are minimal, if it's strong and it won't blind you, they'll buy it.

Salt – Bought in good quantities for good prices. Only rock salt is purchased as the Eonir can harvest sea salt from their own coastlines. Eonir merchants expect only high-quality salt, and woe to be to any merchant that tries to cheat them. I still have nightmares about what happened to Reinhilde. So many mushrooms…

Specie – If one has nothing else to offer the Eonir are willing to accept specie as payment, though they prefer to trade via barter. Nonetheless specie will fetch good prices from the Eonir, though not as good as from the dwarfs.

Spermaceti – To the best of my knowledge this is bought by a single individual, a rather old elf who was one of those that colonized the Old World during Ulthuan's golden age. During the time before the War of Vengeance this individual was a chandler who knew the secret of creating spermaceti candles. With the Eonir trading with the outside world they've decided to restart their old trade and has earned a solid reputation for manufacturing the finest candles that can be found between Ulthuan and the World's Edge Mountains. The prices they offer for their raw material is quite good and the quantity measured in hundreds of pounds per year.

Spices – Nordland merchants appear to have a near total monopoly on spices from the Far East such as pepper, cinnamon, mace, nutmeg, and cloves. Bought only by the wealthy. Naturally we're able to obtain extremely good prices, for example three pounds of cloves can buy a barrel of some of the finest wine the Eonir are willing to sell. Amount sold is steadily treading downward after the initial buying spree. I suppose they've decided that the prices demanded in exchange for them are simply not worth it, though Hans has a wild theory that the elves can get the taste of spices from common herbs and flowers like honeysuckle and dried hawthorns.

Troll blood – Supposedly a common reagent used for a great many purposes. Prices are good due to the difficulty of obtaining any whilst keeping all of one's limbs. Transportation in somewhat difficult of course as the blood has to be rather fresh for it to be of use. Try to obtain it from villagers and minor lords who are happy to simply be rid of the troll rather than getting into a bidding war with dwarfs in Wulfenburg

Unworked and semi-worked metal – The Eonir purchase not inconsiderable amounts of unworked and semi-worked metal, whether it takes the form of ingots, manillas, rods, bars and so on and so forth. From what I can gather almost all of this is used for mundane purposes, such as nails and pots, ordinary arrowheads, fire pokers and spades, etc. Nonetheless quality is expected to be high, any merchant trying to pass pig iron or such on them can expect to be blacklisted.

Vinegar – Bought in only modest quantities. Quality is not expected by the Eonir, if they wanted that they would trade among their own kind. Said to be used primarily for industrial and alchemical purposes.

Vitriol – Blue, green, and white are all bought in small quantities for good prices. Used in alchemy. Obtaining vitriol is somewhat difficult due to the control the Gold College has over the market for it.

Whalebone – Niche good, used primarily for crafting enchanted bows. Whalebone supposedly contains not inconsiderable amounts of Ghyran. Prices are good, better than what can normally be obtained from tailors and the like. Demand is much too small to be relied upon however. Problems can occasionally arise during trading as well, as discussed below.

Whale oil – Niche good, bought only on occasion and in rather small quantities but the Eonir will pay good prices for it. Said to be used for quenching blades. Best sourced from Norscans via Marienburg. The elves will occasionally refuse batches of whale oil on the grounds that "the hunt was unfair" or of "unnecessary cruelty to the beast" and no I do not understand why. For example, six years ago Svetopolk Lushash offered them thirty-eight barrels of good quality right whale oil for exceedingly good prices. Rather than buying it the elves grew stern and even the dullest merchants could tell that they were simmering with barely controlled anger. Never before had I seen the Eonir become so alien in aspect and near all merchants including myself left within the hour for fear of our lives. And though that was by far the worst of such reactions, it wasn't the only example of one.

If anyone wants to make use of anything contained in this omake for their own WHFB quest/fic, feel free to do so.

In other news, barring unforeseen circumstances affecting the Empire, next turn should see a pan-Northern Empire Trade Income increase of +150 as a result of certain trade agreements made last-turn finally manifesting after the laborious process of wheel-greasing.

If that's what we want to call multiple duels between Naraiel and the rest of the Lords of the Laurelorn Kindreds, then yeah. Eonir Bureaucracy.

I kid.

Actual mercantile discussions and bartering was done too.

Well there are some vague similarities. Both had points where they realized they had to accept there was a world outside of what they once knew and want to get shit done regardless of what idiots are doing stonewalling them.

Of course, her world was an isolationist magical realm beset by troubles over thousands of years with ups and downs, and his was a blacksmith's abode. So, you know, just vague similarities.

It was an effort on behalf of both Stephan and Naraiel, to be fully transparent. They've been working on trying to create greater trade connections between their lands, and it just took a bit to properly collect knowledge/determine the actual goods and what not desired between them during a period of relative peace. Trade has taken place between the Eonir back when they were Asrai before, but it was usually limited stuff. This current effort has an eye on more long-term longevity. Personally, I find it serendipitous that iggyfan was already working on this omake. Ya'll can look to it to see the sort of things which may or may not affect future mercantile things in the north of the Empire, or at least provide ideas as to them, yeah?

Elrithcynatendril - The Bold, Lonely, Steadfastly Loyal One

Built from:
Elrith - The forge, spark of the anvil, boldness
Cynath - Chill, death, silence, loneliness.
Endri - Ennui, endlessness, steadfast loyalty

Mena is Malachardarlioth - the Savage Ferocious and Fearless One.

Built from:
Malavoi - Savagery, creatures of the deep.
Charoi - Strength, ferocity, a mane of hair.
Darlioth - Fearlessness, Symbol of the Mirai, corrupt harvest.

None of the other Kessels have terms given over to them from the Eonir, they're generally just referred to purely in their Reikspiel names/titles.

Figures, given the difficulty they had as a society and psychologically seeing humans as equals, it stands to reason only ones that really made an impression would have one. Frederick is self-explanatory, Stephan has the most contact with the Eonir of any human leader, and Natasha…well that's also self-explanatory. Mena may have Barry made the cut by being such a strong part of the battle of their history, the others just don't have the history with the Eonir to be more as individuals on a societal level.

I wonder if the trade and treaties with the Eonir will lead to an expansion of their forest? We know that Stephen gave over a bunch of territory to them, but I don't think we were really told how much territory, so was most of it part of their woods that local nobles had just infringed upon and claimed for themselves, plus a little extra added on as a buffer/no-man's land, or is there a bunch of territory outside the woods themselves that the Eonir would be able to grow their forest towards?

Pretty sure those details came up at some point actually.
