Star Wars, a Shattered Galaxy

*Worse side*

*Stares blankly at orbital bombardments and death squads on Eriadu*

*Observes Sloane ordering a Final Solution to the Bothan problem*

*Anti-matter bombs*

So...the Republic was going to help the Edens?
Eden developed a bioweapon that topped everything we did all game, and probably everything the empire had previously done in half a turn.

As well as wiping out a couple planets in the deep core.

Eden would've been much worse. Largely because he wasn't as concerned with having anything left afterwards.

I'm just going to point out that the old Republic built the first planet buster weapons and tested them on inhabited systems and then covered up. Or so I recall from one of the pre clone wars novels.

Then came the NR and GA covering themselves with glory working on a biological weapon that will kill at a minimum billions with a strong possibility of all life in the galaxy and intending to use this.

Then the Chiss planning to kill trillions of sentient beings again with a bio weapon.

Plus the whole Jacen ruled GA thing.

Now granted both could be argued to have better reasons than the Empire (total war rather than just wanting to terrify populations into submission) but if either plan got carried out it would easily dwarf the entire twenty year death toll of the Empire in a matter of months or years at the outset.

The Empire's pretty standard as galactic governments go. We see the Old Republic basically condoned slavery in the sith wars from Bane's origin story and just forget the various Sith and the Hutt Empire and so on.

I think the Empire's thing was just being evil for the sake of evil rather than...err evil for reasons of stupidity and plot necessity?

I mean its canon that much of the outer rim basically joined the seperatists because the Republic was fucking them over and we see pretty clearly in the EU novels how little a fuck any Galactic government gives for non human worlds outside the core or how it takes about a week before they start putting actively evil people in power, subverting elections and planning genocides.

End the Empire! End the Republic! End Everything! Every world for itself!

Any reading of Star Wars where the Empire is better then the New Republic or the Rebel Alliance in canon is a wrong one, that betrays a dangerous ideology on behalf of the one making the reading.

I never said they were better.

I said the New Republic tried to kill billions of people with trillions more on the line and stopping this was a major sub plot of the finale of the New Jedi order. Like seriously that takes up a good half of the last book of the series and everyone's favourite Bothans get mildly miffed at not killing everyone.

Then the Chiss in the Dark Nest trilogy again need to be stopped from unleashing a bio weapon to kill trillions.

Then Jacen's vision of all life in the galaxy being wiped out long after the Empire is gone.

The Empire was not less evil, it was just not different enough for the whole good and evil thing to work out. The NR and GA had a hell of a lot more good people in them but they spent half their time stopping their colleagues from starting a second Empire, often by force.

(Also rigging elections, starting and ending wars on their own initiative and doing all this morally dubious stuff that's right because of plot not because of underpinning arguments)

Basically it will be a thousand years after this. The Galactic Civil War is a distant memory, a half-forgotten event that people speak of as though it were some legendary cataclysm, and the Galaxy has finally stabilised. Currently there were will be four big state, the Galactic Empire which is more like the HRE in the Core, the Republic out at Eriadu which is this ideologically pure state that bumps off tyrannies and brings democracy at the end of a turbolaser, and then the Mandalorians and the Hutts out on the wings.

Players will claim either within the big powers or independent states in between them and it'll be a game less War War War than this game. There'll still be conflict but the galaxy will be more multi-polar and the ability for one state to spiral out of control will be curtailed in order to stop things from going crazy.

I'm much more interested in the "Jedi" Lords part. Because Star Wars doesnt really work that well as a setting because as I've ranted and as has been shown in this game eventually even the good guys just end up killing billions of people or doing weird hermit shit on the sidelines.

What Star Wars is great for however is wizard samurai's going from place to place waxing about philosophy, carrying out quests for revenge, deposing the inevitable galactic tyrant of the week from whatever faction has its turn ruling the galaxy and now must be both stupid and evil and so on.

It will be much more fun just to spend time mooching around bars or investigating where that pesky bioweapon went because it won't be about fleets blowing each other apart forever.

So basically I'm asking if we can be magic space hobos just doing our own thing without getting murdered or recruited by the big factions. Because the galaxy gets really really small when its about what colour different parts of the map are when its really easy for one or two people to get lost in it.

It will be possible, yes, as there will be a plethora of force-orders running about.

That's something that would just be in the RP forum, then. There's nothing really "Grand Strategy" about a bunch of people playing individual Jedi running around. If you want to play your own Jedi, sure, but it can't be just that for everyone.
