Hnn...I don't like what the second implies. Either the reporter reads too much in some scoop, or there is some trouble coming. Wasn't the story telling something about local war starting in area nearby dig? I have to rush to work now so can't check myself.

Any involvement Paragon Industries might have in any military operation is limited to our technology being used in it by the soldiers of the Alliance"

-[X] "We all have roles to play to secure our future, and right now mine is in the lab. I would like to believe that, while less immediately visible, my contributions to the safety and prosperity of humanity are no less, and, hopefully, even greater than ones I would have made as a soldier"
-[X] "No comment. "

Ok, done some modifications and changes. Reasoning:
2) Involvement - added a bit of patriotism
3) Changed the phrasing to allies / enemies. Otherwise, we risk alienating quarians / other allied/non-hostile non-citadel nations (not species)
4) Expanded on it.

we might want to ask the reporter what made her think we put forces on altahe.
Is the middle of a pack of reporters really the best place for that? Let's just make a note to have that looked into.

I kinda disagree - aside from trying to keep answers are short as possible, "not selling military hardware to nations hostile to us" is just common sense - taking the time to say that is a bit pointless. The Quarians aren't an actual significant political force that can be insulted as such (they definitely can't afford our military tech, while our fix for their immune system should render anything else meaningless).

The point was: limiting ourselves to Citadel nations is not a good idea. For one, even humans have nations that are not parts of the Citadel (terminus colonies). There is a number of worlds and races which aren't parts of the Citadel we might want to trade with.

As to keeping the answers as short as possible... I disagree a bit. I think we can manage to give expanded answers without flubbing.

We can trade with them, sure (the suggestion for a line of colonial tech come to mind)...that doesn't mean we should be selling our cutting edge military tech to Terminus entities. Certainly not yet, at any rate.

Yeah, I guess brevity is a matter of taste...but I'd prefer Revy stop, point to each of the five in turn with quick answers, and bounce. No need to stand around pontificating.

Hmm. Would this work, or seem too slippery for leaving our doors open on the mil-tech?
-[X] "I have not made a decision at this time concerning selling military hardware to the other members of the Citadel. Barring exceptional circumstances, I will not sell to nations outside of it."
Really, I'm kind of torn about my modification to the answer, because the news will likely twist that to "exceptional amounts of credits" or something like that. Still, I would like to leave our options at least a little open.

Also, does "members of the Citadel" mean officially only the Asari, the Turians and the Salari? Or does this mean "any species that has an embassy on the Citadel"? The Batarians don't have one anymore, correct? Because that would be awkward.

Again, why are we turning this into an impromptu press conference? We're getting questions shouted at us by papparazzi on our way to some important business, why are we choosing this as the time to expound upon our business strategy and ethics? We should just give short, clear answers to the ones we want to answer, say "no comment" to the others and then go about our business. If it turns out a lot of people are getting worried about these issues, we can just set up an actual conference dedicated to answering their concerns. TPO.

'Course "no comment" is likely to be taken as "the truth would sound bad".
Better to actually not comment.
Or just inform all of them that if they want an interview they can make an appointment, rather than getting underfoot.

"no comment" is actually fine. It acknowledges the question, without being rude, but simply saying that you have nothing to say.

I've honestly never seen, that i can recall, "no comment" being used in any context other than "the truth would sound really bad" (whether it actually Is or not is a different story, of course, but it's more likely to actually be bad than not) or "you're being an arse, but actually giving you the treatment appropriate to the nonsense you're spouting would do bad things to my reputation/cause because of your position"... welll, and the occasional "i don't actually know, but don't want to admit it", but that's a subset of the first option.

People who actually have nothing to say on the matter usually either say nothing, joke, direct the reporter to ask someone more relevant, knowledgeable, or likely... things like that. "No comment" is pretty much always either "i refuse to make myself look bad" or "you're harrassing me, stop it." Or both. Here at least, that I've ever seen.

Well, okay, but TBH most of the other responses are actually WORSE than 'no comment'.

...really? "No comment" is used all the time without negative connotation. It is a pretty non-offensive "don't have time to talk to you right now".

Indeed. For example, my use of "no comment" in regards to war with the batarians isn't really negative at all. For me, it basically means "I don't want to discuss this, because my opinion on it is totally irrelevant and I'd rather not get involved in the politics of it."

*shrugs* side effect of a local media who're generally pretty good at not asking questions likely to get that outcome unless they're deliberately pressing, and politicians and celebraties who are interesting enough for the media to bother with generally being the sort who are very good at public speaking, even off the cuff, and have opinions on everything, very plainly spoken and well liked, or currently in hot water over some apparent wrongdoing. The first two groups tend to respond as i described.

It's probably a cultural thing combined with "no comment" not making for interesting sound bites or copy unless it seems to imply something. Most "no comment" answers probably don't make the news. (And full interviews tend to eithwr follow the pre-aranged script or have an interviewer who's Very good at manouvering hhe interviewee into a position where they Must answer or undermine their own position if an answer is actually needed and useful, or backing off before that point. (And, of course, a politician will never actually answer the question asked if they can find a way to twidt it back into following their prepaired speech.)

So, yeah, culture and... selection bias?

"I will not sell to nations outside of it" is unnecessary.

The reporter had asked, that do we plan to sell weapons to aliens in general.

A generic tentative answer is just fine.
