Shepard Quest Mk V, Base of Operations (ME/MCU)

[X] Write-in: Do a background check. A few minutes with an omni-tool is not a comprehensive search. Get your security chief, Goto, to dig up more info, particularly whatever it was that got him fired time and again. Forewarned is forearmed. Try to get it done before you land on Earth, but if that is not possible, arrange to keep in contact with him. Hire him to write up a few pages on each important people. A million should do as pay and would keep him busy and technically in your employ while your digging further into his history.

So, would it be too much to ask some of our Systems Alliance contacts about his background, since they're likely to have more information on him or know of people who might? I'm not sure if they'd be willing to help with such a small thing, but we are a fairly major supplier for their military and humanity in general, so they might help and their abilities to do background check likely outstrip ours by multiple orders of magnitude. Even if they are unlikely to apply such measures for the greater bulk of their own employees due to resource and other constraints.

Even if he *is* a plant, we should hire him, he may be a useful person, plus, if he is a spy we can just drip feed him what we want him to see.

-[X] Crappy ship or not those things cost big money, no one writes one off like that. Something stinks. See if it's possible to link to the computers remotely and strip them bare. Try and recover deleted files too.
-[X] Ask if the captain to take it under tow it anyway as a 'good will gesture' without telling Laurence. During the trip have a couple of your security search it top to bottom, especially the cargo to see if it's legit. If he was writing that off as well.....
--[X]Have the security team keep a close eye on the Tigers. This could be a sabotage attempt.

Added in subvote from below about keeping the tigers under watch.

Spelling corrected on 'tow'

I'm thinking he's Cerberus. A way to get someone inside the company and influence our policies. After all if our political analyst tells us that such-and-such general or politician (who just happens to be all for for closer relations with the Turians) is guilty of some horrible evil thing, and of course there's no evidence that could be used in a courtroom but if you look at this and this then the implication is obvious, then we'll move away from supporting that person or his policies.

Point. Anyways, if we do hire him he'll obviously be a double edged sword.

Paranoia level 0:

Of course he's suspicious. The guy has used his contacts and skills to get close to you and try to get a job with an up and coming giant.

Paranoia level 1:

Industrial espionage is a thing. Your rivals have pegged your personality perfectly.

Paranoia level 2:

He is a plant, a Systems Alliance plant sent to covertly monitor and direct your dealings with the Citadel to the Alliance's benefit. They already believe the Asari are trying something with Liara. The rogue robots that tried to kill you could only come from the Salarians. Who knows what the Batarians are up to.

Paranoia level 3:

He is a plant, a Systems Alliance plant who reports to the Shadow Broker unknowing to his bosses. With high level access you'll be leaking like a sieve.

Paranoia level 4:

He is a plant, a Systems Alliance plant who reports to the Shadow Broker unknowing to his bosses. Of course he's going to send the juiciest bits to Cerberus. Forget sieves, consider your secrets public knowledge.

Paranoia level 5:

You just met Mordin Solus. Don't worry the Yahg don't know what you're up too. Neither do the monkey birds on the cotton-fungus planet.

Paranoia level 6:

This is a Batarian ploy to get their hands on your tech. The newest tech.

Paranoia level 7:

Bow to your robotic overlords!

Paranoia level 8:

The Illusive Man is in da house.

Paranoia level 9:

He works for the Collectors.

Paranoia level 10:

The monkey birds from Planet Bob know everything.

The monkey birds from Planet Bob know everything.

It all makes sense now.

The monkey birds have been pulling our strings all along, pretending to be pre-spaceflight so the Reapers overlook them. Meanwhile, we dance to their tune as their proxy soldiers against the threat...

I don't know why I didn't see it before!

Eh rather easy to plant fake files on the ship yet one won't know without checking...

I don't want to tow it, as we might be late if we do so. Besides, if it is planted with explosives, I don't want it to be near us. (Not likely, but hey.)

recruiting him actually gives us useful info, even if it's a trap, as it will apparently motivate a group that's currently unknown to us to act and thus leave behind evidence that can be used to identify them or at least one of their cat's paws.

Information from a compromised source is not useful.

And you know, I'll certanly buy him knowing who Revy is. I'll even buy him guessing that she'd be passing through the system in this time frame. But namedropping Lindsey? No. That's a little to far. Dude's a plant.

Hey, perhaps we could ask Lindsey about him?

You know, we don't have to hire him now. Just tell him we'll contact him later. Meanwhile you could simply have your HR department and security vet the guy. Or even have the Alliance military do it as a favour.

And then we'll decide whether to hire him or not.

Besides, he's not the only political analyst in Alliance space, nor do I think that he's the best. Soeven if we don't hire him, the possibility of getting a political analyst is still there.
