Shepard Quest Mk IV, Under New Management (ME/MCU)

Nope. As mentioned in the invisible text, it's a tabletop rpg that's being referenced. And it is rather obscure, I doubt anyone will find it. Though I didn't think anyone would catch the Hitchiker's reference either, so there's certainly a chance.
I take it the 'Wheel of Fortune' guess was wrong too?

That's why I chose 'medium armour'. Everything else is either likely to be too expensive from the military's point of view (and thus unlikely to win just because of cost) or not part of 'mobile armour' at all (except suit armour). It was either that or going for Basic Energy Weaponry, but we can buy that anyway.
Medium armor is Tank building. Invisibility and fire control VI are not going to make it too expensive.

Except that the competition is for a new IFV, not a new MBT. Those two are very different pairs of shoes.

Awww... :(
Could you give us a hint, at least? Whether the references are in titles, or in the general text itself, or perhaps conversations?

And on the matter of competition; could we design a gunship, like the Mantis, using our tech?

About mechs, how well did YMIR sell after the prototype got out of control and then got trashed by Revy?

The references are in two difference bits of the main text. Conversations count as main text.

They're looking for something that can do what the Mako does, but better. The Mantis wouldn't work since its ability to move stuff around isn't very good, but a generalized Chinook would be fine if you can make it small enough to fit in a frigate.

Not as well as they'd hoped, but they made assurances, and a lot of their buyers weren't present.

Welp, that doesn't help too much. Still, thanks.

I didn't mean to offer something like the Mantis for the competition, I was more wondering if we could design our own gunships and the like in general.

Also, anything in regards to my post here:

?

I find it somewhat strange that you still need to undertake a somewhat large project to get Energy Weapons, when you have a working small scale Particle Beam already.

Correct! +50 Research points. Spend them wisely.

Mmm, there isn't a gunship tech, and it's quite distinct from either ground vehicles or spaceships, so I'm inclined to say that's a new tech. But certainly one you could buy for the low low price of 100,000,000 credits.

We seem to be mostly in agreement, I'd like to give other people a chance to comment before I commit to anything.

Depending on our finances this turn, we might be able to just purchase it. I have to admit I can't really make heads or tails of the finance doc, though, so I'll leave that to someone else.

For research, we get an average of 930 points, which would be enough to get:
Advanced Biotic Implant (400)
Advanced Fire Control VI (400)
Basic Genemodding (~100)

The remaining points/overflow we could invest either into the Mk II suit, or something else; Advanced Blackboxing/FRM, perhaps.

I've added the factory III to the finance sheet, but the 7.5 milliion for the facilities needs to be added, I think it'd be a non-deductible item, but I'll leave that to people that know more.

Spare time (pick two)

[X] Spend time with family

Build:

[X] Lab III

Buy:
[X] Basic Directed Energy Weapons (200): 200 million credits

Research:
[X] Advanced Biotic Amp (400): 60d10+90
[X] Basic Genemodding (98/200): 30d10
[X] The black fucking gun (400): 60d10+80
[X] Mk II Suit (500): Overflow

We have cool new stuff, does HK like our new suit upgrades? Also Mako MkII plan, Invisible particle-laser tank (IFV ) , with optional black hole gun attachment,

Okay, so....right now we can swap out the reactor of the Mako with an Arc Reactor to boost it's shields, we can swap out it's thrusters for Repulsors and we can swap out it's main cannon for an even bigger Repulsor, swap out it's co-axial gun for a better one (if we have the tech, not sure) and swap out it's armour for the ceramic armour we invented in previous turn.

....I can see the potential need for the Fire Control VI which helps to stop anti-tank weaponry....but invisiblity? For something that large?

Any ideas on how much heat that kind of system would generate? If it's too much then you'll cook your troops while they're inside....
the invisible man research says all our military vehicles will benefit. combine that with the E-War VI we devloped and some extra heat sinks and you have one very sneaky IFV.

Stealth is awesome, but we shouldn't throw the first gen system onto a showpiece.
we've done that before.

also i'll say again. we developed an E-War VI before the powered armor contest. it just got a massive upgrade.

I'll leave of guessing just now since the few other ideas I have aren't obscure and comment on other things

First, on the subject of AI Licensing Preparation it might be better than EMP and electronic warfare to have Cyber warfare which is more applicable if it's going to have network access. On the other hand none of them really fit if not since the first rule of securing an AI would reasonably be to bar all out going network connections. Use things like ROM chips apply updates at a remove and so on mitigates most of the threat an AI can pose till you connect it to machinery and for those you have a button of site that can disconnect the power physically rendering it moot.

So what might be better fitting for it is Advanced Computer Hardware what might be more universally applicable and further advances in VI learning algorithms.

On Liara's find should we make arrangements for further funding for her or even building her her own Archaeological lab/research team that can do background work for her and us, such as chasing up references and the like?

I want to do Fire Control AND stealth this turn.

more actually i want to spend most of this turns research on things that will help with the contest.

[x] Shepard's Second Superior Study Selection

[x] Begin work on a Lab III

[X] Basic Directed Energy Weapons (200): With the potential power production of the ISAR within reach, many traditional dictums regarding energy weapons come into question. Investigating Basic DEWs will allow you to build GARDIAN class lasers, as well as lay the foundation for both very large and very small laser weapons and other DEWs. (May be bought, 200 million credits) (200 Million credits)

[X] Advanced Biotic Amp (400): You finally have the power to do what you've been thinking of ever since the doctor told you you were Biotic. The L2 implant has nasty side effects, the L3 implant is not as powerful, and not nearly as powerful as what you can now make. With this, Biotics as the Galaxy knows it may well be changed. (Get a biotic implant with the capability to go beyond what the canonical Biotics could do.) (70d10+65) (3 research teams, 3 revy, Conrad, 1 basic research, 98.23%)

[X] Basic Genemodding (98/200): It is a terrible tragedy that Humanity is still troubled by genetic diseases like Vrolik's Syndrome. The genes of infants are the building bricks of adults, and if you know what they all do, you can improve them. Time to pick up your LEGOs again. (This will let you build special facilities where people can get better babies. High upfront investment, decent pay out down the road). 20d10+15 (Revy and research team, 96.65%)

[X] Advanced Fire Control VI (400): By attaching a millimeter band radar and advanced fire control VI to your power armor, you can adapt both shoulder mounted autocannon and micro-missiles to serve as a point defense system against incoming rockets and grenades. (50d10+130, 60.64%, Overflow 1)

[X] The invisible man (400): The stealth system that was installed in the prototype the Berkeley students presented at the power armor conference was not good enough to fool Alliance security, but then it was Conrad piloting the thing. While working on your advanced ceramic, you've had some ideas of your own on how to incorporate digital camouflage at a fundamental level. (Make near-invisible versions of your vehicles. Sound, thermal and radar detection will still be issues, but issues exist to be solved!) (Overflow 2)

Plan only works if Tyaty Agrees to it, and I'll change the overflow to what he wants if he wants something else.

Edit: Dice fixed.
