SayakaQuest Thread 10: Glory To The Death

Midair maneuvering with exploding swords seems like it'd be more expensive than it'd be worth.
We use one of our pins to shoot at the trigger of the sword and detonate it?

I am not even sure that works, truth be told.
We just need to work out the timing of the remote detonation. No need for fancy pin nonsense, particularly since our accuracy isn't that good when we aren't winning a plushie for Kyoko.

Using explosions to toss a target where we want them to go could let us set up some good combos that'd essentially let us end the fight if we get one good hit in, but that'd take a lit of practice and be really grief-intensive particularly for larger targets.

Can we do shaped charges or incendiaries, or are we stuck with our current explosions?

If we are throwing suggestions around...
We could try that divebomb maneuver from Grief Syndrome that Sayaka uses, preferably with bigger sword.Hisatsu: Zan Kan Ken

Edit:She actually uses that without the "offensive boost" against Elsa Maria in anime.

Torg: Still an option for if we're on Sayaka Miki's Wild Ride thanks to a badly timed defensive boost or something.

For shaped charges...Gilliam had an idea about self-propelled sword blades that tunnel deeper after we stab (seems a bit gimmick-y to me to be honest since a sword blade is probably going to detonate anyway) and incendiaries don't seem to work thematically (Not convinced our "explosions" aren't actually more magical effects than proper boom)

That depends, is it Walpurgis throwing a building at us and we need to get out of the way FAST? If it's the difference between getting pinned or crushed and dodging, even a minor speed boost can be worth some magic expenditure.

For Walpurgisnacht we probably should Gattai the Meguca to board it. Kyoko ties everyone together with her chains, Sayaka provides the boost with Tomo providing a speed multiplier if she's present, Homura timestopping when we need to get out of the way of something.

Self-propelled is more Kyoko's thing, but that'd be a pretty brutal combo attack against enemies large enough to bother. Kyoko makes a hole, we stick a sword in the hole and detonate, pushing her spear further into the target. Then it starts chewing.

Speaking of working thematically, could we get a damage boost for timing our detonations to the tune of the 1812 Overture?

We kind of pulled off mind-reader countering with MUSIC POWERS- the kind of thematic I'm thinking of is more general than "this'd give a boost" and it's a nitpick of "explosions" anyway. :p

Agreed that we want to put points into sword detonation training at the next opportunity?

I think that is an upgraded version of our offensive boost, pretty much- though area of effect damage and more of a "battering ram" effect would be nice, it's a little gimmicky.

Also, heh, divebomb spam. Good times. :D

I don't know if it was confirmed in cannon, but isn't walpurgisnatch the gear itself and the doll part is just an attachment that can shoot fire? Would our swords even scratch the witch, considering that an entire stadium of C4 didn't do all that much? I know we're planning to get on top of the gear, but I don't know what we could do with our current attacks that would even dent the metal; I think creating powerful (but not suicidal) attacks that causes large area damage would be a good idea (whether that's giant exploding sword, some sort of super powerful wave rend, or whatever).

I'm just worried that our swords will glance off the metal of the cog and we would be left with no attacks that could do any damage to it.

Hence the current training bandwagons are for Overkill Mode- plus even regular wave rend is an anti-everything attack...if it hits.

I swear I have a reading problem, I look for things in a text, don't find them, and then they're pointed out to me and suddenly they're there :p But yeah, after I found those posts, I agree with the people who say we should improve our wave rend, I don't think our standard one will be able to cut through Walpurgis considering Sayaka isn't a naturally strong magic girl.

One idea I had for a technique: when we use Wave Rend could we retain it in our sword instead of firing it? So it gives us bonuses to our swordplay/damage for a while until we expend all the energy from it (i.e. every time we hit something with the sword some of the power of the Wave Rend gets released)?

(Yes, this is basically copied from Bleach.)

It's come up, and I think it's worth trying- the only danger is if it turns into a constant grief drain rather than a onetime grief-cost buff. Sayaka with a lightsaber? :p

I'm now picturing Sayaka in a Luke Skywalker getup. And then the idea snowballed into casting decisions:

Sayaka as Luke
Madoka as Leia
Kyouko as Han
Mami as C-3P0
Homura as R2-D2
Kyubacca the Wookie

... *re-read the manga with a certain cute 9-ish year old green haired Puella, an Oracle white haired one and her Psycho-Killer black haired girlfriend*

Moid, what is Oriko's status in this fic, just to know it?

It's almost a shame we're not going to loop, since Sayaka heard Homu's horror stories about Oriko. The mutual reactions would be hilarious. :D

Ugolino, the voting witch, with a charismatic nature.

How else do you think he gets all the bandwagons started? WITCH KISSES INTENSIFY
