This doesn't make sense to me. If we're staying far enough away to not be able to hear them, exactly how would we step in if the silence gets awkward?

I'd say let them start it, but if they still aren't talking after the next post, then we'll break in somehow.
Still, from Akane's position, it's not quite the same as Kyousuke's issue. Akane is simply of incompatible orientation. Kyousuke just never liked Sayaka as more than a friend, at all, and didn't notice Sayaka's feelings despite being good friends with her for years. So Akane, in a sense, can be flattered by the feelings while simply being apologetic at the fact that she literally can't feel the same way in return, even if she tried. Which would probably make it easier for Tomo and Akane to be around each other and close friends without too much in the way of awkwardness.

That's already a vote. They need the space to feel comfortable to talk, but we'll be wary just in case something goes south.
Akane issue is not as Kamijou's issue, yes, but the feel of rejection for uncorresponded love is one and the same, and Sayaka can relate on that.
We'll have to break the news to all of them eventually (we still has five and a half days to do so IIRC) but for now it's on hold. They needed the support
