-A moth flaps her wings, part 1.2-
Esmeralda stares at you for a long, awkward moment, before she turns away to place a hand on some of the exposed portions of her head. "Do I want to know how this even happened?" she asks. She doesn't wait for the reply before looking back at you, not at all amused, but resigned still. "We're not even supposed to be going to the living world right now! We're supposed to be making sure that there isn't any reason for the Shinigami to wonder if there's something unusual going on with us. And you... need me to help fix some humans who got attacked by a hollow before you could save them."
You fidget, feet sliding on the floor, one lifting and then setting back down. Yes, well, it sounds worse when she puts it like that. You were ultimately just... looking for things to bring back as little bits of color, and you got a bit distracted by things... and may have possibly somehow ended up dressed as a Shinigami while saving some plus souls from mindless hollows. It's really not your fault, even if you'd need a lot longer than you have right at the moment to explain why it's completely logical that things happened like this.
For the moment though, she really, really needs to come before the humans start dying or whatever else hollow reiatsu can do to them when they're injured by it. You managed to get lucky enough that it's only a couple minutes running back to the garganta, and you left it open so that it won't leave you risking being dropped too far away again-
"You left it open!?" she shouts, and you cower a bit away from Las Noches's medic. "What if someone runs across it?" She throws her hands in the air, before grabbing a box in one hand, and then yanking at your tattered cloak in the other, pushing you forward towards the door with it. You stumble, looking back at her for a moment. "Well? What are you waiting for?"
Your eyes widen, and you quickly thank her for her help with this. You don't really know how you can make it up to her, but you're sure that you will- oh, right. Leading her to the garganta. You chuckle softly in embarrassment at the look she's giving you, before quickly starting to move towards it.
She's not as fast as you, carrying her medical supply case at her side, but even so, it won't take long to get to the hallway that you left it. She grumbles a bit, of course, but you're rather distracted by the thought that you might not completely ruin things, thanks to her help.
"So," she comments after a minute, "you mind telling me anything about who I'm treating? Because I'm really not sure how much good I'll do, but any details could help."
Right. You quickly explain how the human you found was able to see you, and apparently has a lot of spiritual energy to him. Enough that it nearly becomes a background noise around his living area, and the walls of his house are basically solid to ghosts. A lot of Karakura town is nearly solid due to the amount of spiritual energy there, which is probably part of why it's so easy to end up there, or near to it, when traveling to the human world. But his house is especially bad, barely allowing you to go through a window without breaking it.
Naturally, a couple hollows got the scent of him and started trying to eat him. You got the first one without much incident, but the second attacked at his house, and he ran downstairs while you were... trying to go through the wall. You're pretty sure you heard something crack when it hit him, and his family looked to be a bit unconscious? You really don't know enough about medicine to say more than that it looked bad.
The explanation has Esmeralda mostly just looking even more exasperated as you reach the ragged tear between dimensions, slipping through into the darkness and pulling it closed behind her.
Quick steps on shining platforms of spiritual energy cross through the echoing emptiness that extends all around the two of you, while Esmeralda herself seems to be moving extra slow, glancing around nervously. Is she not really used to traveling to the human world?
"Of course not," she mutters back, glaring slightly before speeding up. Each step has only a tiny platform of light under her, using only the bare minimum energy required to walk the void. "There's the whole 'against the rules' bit, after all. Not to mention the complaints I'll get if I'm not somewhere they can find me if one of the Espada actually needs any medical attention."
Ah. That sounds rough, you admit. You suppose that it's better for someone like you. You're too weak for them to ever really need you for anything, and you don't have any skills that would make up for it. It leaves living in Las Noches a bit of a rough prospect as often as not, but at the same time, no one really notices if you leave. Or they just don't care, as long as you come back. You doubt they'd really care all that much, even if you didn't return.
"...Then why do you?" she asks, sounding a bit confused. "If it's so miserable, and you won't even be missed... why not just go?"
You... tried that once, admittedly. Ran into a Shinigami and nearly died. For all that Los Noches is a land of terrifying giants that you cower in the shadows of, it at the very least is safe from that. And as long as you don't draw attention, you're probably safer than out in the sands. To normal hollow, you might be a decent meal. To Arrancar, you're just furniture at best, for those stronger than you. Furniture that they might break in a fit if it's in the wrong place at the wrong time, but you've gotten fairly good at scurrying out of the way of the Espada and their Fraccion, if nothing else.
Still... if it was a choice between staying hidden where it was mostly safe and never doing anything, or risking going out into the living world and then darting back to sleep somewhere mostly safe, the second option just holds more appeal.
Esmeralda seems to accept that, at least, looking like she understands something a bit better as she nods. "So... the fake Shinigami robes?" she asks a moment later.
You stumble, nearly missing a step and dropping a foot through the shadows all around you, before climbing back up on stairs of spiritual energy. You turn to give her a small pout. It... makes you feel a bit less like yourself. You can hunt base hollows like a Shinigami, and send souls on like one. So... like that, you're someone a bit more special, at least to a few plus souls and all, rather than one of the weakest of the weak, dashing about to avoid being trampled under foot. It's little more than a game of make believe, but it's something that is yours, and you enjoy it.
The silence you get in response feels almost physical, and you glance back to see Esmeralda's expression. It's pensive, but as she meets your eyes, she looks like she kind of understands the feeling, at least.
You reach out as you touch the ragged tear of soft light waiting for you, pulling it back to look down onto the scene. The Kurosaki clinic stands just below you, your Descorrer having opened the tear on the roof when you left. Leaving it open is something of a risk, always, but it doesn't look like any Shinigami found it while it was there, likely hidden under the spiritual pressure that lingers on this place.
Below, red and blue lights flash, and looking down, it seems that there are a number of humans in odd outfits, vehicles parked all around. Well. Apparently, having the building's front entrance collapsed inward by a hollow draws some attention. Carefully, you jump down to start looking around for the humans that you're... well, kind of responsible for their condition. You had moved them inside before bolting to bring back Esmeralda, and looking in, they're at least still present.
A burly man with dark hair and stubble is off at the side, bawling to a giant poster of a woman while paramedics attempt to get him to stay laying down and resting after his collapse. Two girls are swaddled in blankets, one still unconscious and the other looking to be softly crying. And the boy from earlier is being loaded slowly onto a stretcher, the human medics talking about cracked bones that will take a while to heal right.
Your fault, you can't help but think at that, before pointing him out to Esmeralda. She moves over to the side of the stretcher, starting to look him over, before pulling out a phial of something and loading it into needle. When you ask what she's giving her, she doesn't pause in gripping his hand to push the needle in.
"Just something of a booster shot, of sorts. When some of the numeros end up accidentally exposed to an Espada's power, it will be suffocating enough that they can barely pull themselves up, and they'll heal slower. This should help his spirit push off any lingering injuries and excite his energy towards helping heal faster. His physical wounds, the hospital will deal with just fine as long as a hollow's energy isn't clinging to them to prevent them from healing." She pulls the needle back shortly before the men lift the stretcher, and you tug her over towards the unconscious sister.
The conscious one, oddly, seems to tense and glance through you both as you approach. Then again, if one of them is such a powerful medium, the others may share his gift. The darker haired of the sisters seems to have been hurt as well though, and though the paramedics have apparently stated that they can't see anything wrong with her other than shock, having Esmeralda look over her seems to be a good idea. She hums softly as she starts touching the girl's flesh, pulling out an oddly hooked tool. She fits it under the girl's arm, before pulling gently, and a slightly more translucent arm pulls up from the flesh, showing claw marks deep into it and oozing blood.
She clicks her tongue, pulling out a needle and thread, and you watch on as she sews up the woulds before wrapping a bit of cloth around them, pushing the arm back into... well, her arm, before moving to the other. You have to admit that you're a bit curious as to the injuries there, where the boy got a cracked bone somewhere.
"Spiritual attacks don't normally leave much in the way of physical damage compared to how hard they hit, when it comes to the living," she absently explains. "If a hollow wasn't strong enough, though most are, an attack from one might actually not do more than make the human stumble. But then the lingering energy will fester and weaken them if they can't fight it off, causing unusual sicknesses that the doctor's can't seem to diagnose. Though it's different if you get thrown into a wall, like you mentioned your friend was. The hit that sent him flying? Most of the damage would be on his spirit, with his body buffering it some and taking a bit of the hit. But the wall is strictly physical, and he was still hitting it pretty hard. Probably, that strong spiritual energy of his you mentioned kept him from hitting harder, too. The interactions are weird, and you don't really notice the difference after you get into attacks from gillians and adjucas level hollows. At that point, a fraction of the damage hitting their soft, squishy physical bodies is still deadly outright."
You wince slightly. So your attacks... well, you already were avoiding just outright hitting humans, but it's still a bit different to be reminded of what you'd do if you ever caught one in your attacks by accident. You're week, but still stronger than an average gillian, you're sure.
She finishes up her work after checking the girl over in a few more places, tugging just gently at the chain of fate as she pulls her soul partly free, before putting it back and wrapping a thin bit of tape around her. Standing, Esmeralda steps back and glances over at you. "Alright, she should be fine, now. The others look fine, and this one looked like she was going to probably heal on her own, but she might have been a bit miserable doing it. Was that all you needed? No injuries of your own?"
You smile to her shyly, before flicking your skin hard enough for the Hierro to momentarily harden, ringing with a slight sound like metal being struck. Even as weak as you are, you have a Hierro strong enough that most base hollows wouldn't hurt you as long as you were careful. You're sure that her's would hold up fine against them, too, though you don't tend to trust it so much yourself. Better not to be hit in the first place, than to find out some hollow has an unusually strong armor penetrating power or something, right? Either way, you didn't give it a chance to hit you. You're just beating yourself up over being dumb enough and slow enough to get someone uninvolved hurt like that when you really could have stopped it.
Not to mention, of course, that having someone able to hide your spiritual presence from the Shinigami would be a very nice security blanket, even if you'll apparently need to pay more attention so you're not blind around him, too. Though again, not mentioning that bit. It feels mean, being concerned with him being useful at letting you continue your games without being caught, but all the same, it also assures a panicky voice in your head a bit to have him around, having seen the effect.
"Well, alright, if you're sure," Esmeralda replies, packing up her tools. She turns towards the door, pointing up. "Did you leave the Garganta open again?"
You... may have let it close after you were through it from Los Noches, this time. In your defense, even if you're flaunting the rules, you don't have to do something like leaving an open portal right to you for just anyone who comes across it and decides they're curious. You guess that she wants to get back immediately, then?
She pauses, looking out at the parametics with an odd look on her face. Her gaze moves to the town, the huge buildings all around, the greenery. "...Well, maybe not right this moment, but soon. Can't have someone need medical attention and not even be able to find me. I'd probably get killed for sure."
You frown for a moment, considering. If you do stay, you'd have the options of exploring the town some, but having to keep a close eye on the local shinigami and be ready to run at any moment, or staying near to Ichigo. Or you can take Esmeralda back to Los Noches and... try to find something to do for the bit that it will take before Ichigo is getting out of the hospital. You can tell that Esmeralda would probably enjoy it to stay a bit longer, but to stay safe, you'd have to keep to a likely boring and restricted spot...
