Please keep your priorities straight and your goals in sight.

WE DON'T WANT TO WIN THE WAR.

We want to stop the Angra Mainyu from being born, and we want to fix Illya. A strong Servant will probably be able to resist the Command Seal to destroy the Grail, if we win. We want a Caster who specializes in homunculi. We don't want Tamamo. We don't want Herakles. We don't want Arturia. We DON'T need a strong Servant to stop the others from winning, just to win ourselves; and that's not what we want to do.

I just realized, we were planning on summoning Caster for the war to help Ilyia. I know of only one that I'm aware of that has any form of experience with homunculus is Morgan le Fey. Should we try to summon her or are we going to summon Saber again?

If we don't want to win but want to fix the grail then caster should be good choice,Honestly canon caster Medea should be good to summon,if you not being jerk then that should be fine.

Medea knowledge should help Illiya extend life span.

There are two criteria, though: experience with homunculi and the inclination to help. Morgan le Fay has the first, but it's doubtful that she has the second.

Gather a list of Caster candidates from mythology maybe?
We can trim it down to the likeliness of knowing much to do with homunculi.

Everyone would back him up of course. Community Connections is great because it lets us call in more allies for the grail war, and more than likely the ability to use a TSAB spaceship as our base of operations.

If there's a specific catalyst we can use to get a correct Servant with reliability in a known location, I'll swap for the catalyst hunt.
As reborn pointed out, there's an easily accessible catalyst for Tamamo in a known location in Japan.
Also, how do you feel about adding an appeal to Yuuno's status as an archeologist by mentioning something about gaining first hand knowledge of ancient myths?

Would you mind explaining to me why you want Tamamo? She might be amenable to destroying the Grail, but she won't be able to help us with Illya.

She's a Caster who's friendly and won't actually want the grail for herself, which means that its easy to team up with Waver and Iskandar to end the war quickly with minimum casualties. Also, Yuuno getting a genki girl Servant who desperately wants to be his waifu will be hilarious.

The problem is Tamamo does not provide the necessary expertise to fix Ilya or Shirou, she's a master of curses and invoking the gods, which is good for purifying the grail, but puts us no closer to helping our kids. Which is the whole reason we're in the War at all.

Will add the archeologist bit when I get home though.

Also I strongly suggest that we help the Mid Childan refugees fit in with fake identities, because that means we have a massive pool of mages indebted to us, make a bunch of money, and prevent them from turning to crime. Also I wonder what we could do with even 10% of them helping power up our Servant by sending in mana.

Thousands of people without identities, unable to use their main skills of magic, is a problem likely to explode since they can't get identification by any legal means.

Nanoha canon would suggest that the Midchildan characters found it pretty freaking easy to establish fake identities on Earth. Remember that early in A's, Lindy casually buys a house in the same neighborhood that Nanoha lives in.

Slotting one family in, with a battleship in orbit supporting(and with Lindy herself a fan of Japanese culture), is much easier than slotting in thousands of refugees who have been forced to keep their magic hidden when they used it everyday previously, and generally have a huge culture clash.

For one family, we could simply hypnotize a few people to get it done.

For thousands we need something more .

And as minor notes it gives the Fujimura Yakuza something to do that Taiga would approve of. Something illegal, but which helps people.

I mostly agree, but I'm really terrified of that small chance of catastrophic failure. Gaining national attention is very very bad, especially since it probably means exposing the existence of magecraft to the entire world.

I'm usually all for "funniest option wins" but this isn't really that kind of quest, and that doesn't help us accomplish our goals at all. It's totally out-of-character for Kiritsugu not to consider all of the benefits and disadvantages of his options, and the disadvantage of "can't actually help Illya with her body or Shirou with his magecraft/distortion" outweighs the advantage of "doesn't want the Grail". And in-character, we don't know that she doesn't want the Grail, so that's irrelevant anyways.

We'd be very hard pressed though to find another Caster with anywhere near as good a catalyst anywhere close to as easily obtained, and we're still starving for resources. That's a good IC reason to go for it.

Look at it another way.

What happens if we don't do it, and the refugees decide to just fuck it and go with magic backed muggings to make a living?

It's risky, but not doing it means they get exposed anyway, now without anyone helping to cover up.

The disaster would mostly be on the Yakuza, who would find it hard to get back in business if they're getting government attention.

Its harsh, but in that situation, at least Kiritsugu can rest easy in the knowledge that he saved his family from getting involved in that mess.

But the whole point of entering the war is to find a way to fix Illya. If that wasn't a problem, we could just contact Waver Velvet and tell him about Angra Mainyu, and go on with our lives. Maybe send a bit of support. Except that Illya is having a problem, and summoning a Servant who can fix her is the best way to deal with it. Touko is far, far too expensive, and wishing on the Grail is just absurd. Therefore, summoning anyone who CAN'T fix Illya is a terrible, terrible idea.

Honestly? I'm running under the assumption that any friendly Caster is better than no Caster in regards to helping Illya. At the very least, any Caster is by definition a more powerful magus than any modern magus (not counting Magicians). Even if she can't provide a quick fix, Tamamo would probably be a lot better at performing any of whatever the magical equivalent of surgery is than any other characters we have are.

In general, finding a friendly Caster is really freaking difficult, and here we've got one with a readily obtainable catalyst that can't possibly end up summoning anyone else. I'd gladly switch to a Caster that serves our purposes better if someone can find one who's also friendly and has a good catalyst that we can get our hands on for a reasonable price.

It's not that Casters in general are unfriendly, it's that the Casters in the Fourth and Fifth War happened to be anti-heroes, summoned due to the corruption of the Grail. Could've been any class. Also, being skilled in one subset of magecraft does not equal being skilled in other subsets; Tamamo is good at curses and blessings and stuff like that, I think, but I don't think she's ever even interacted with a homunculus. If possible, I'd like to summon Justeaze Lizrich von Einzbern. If she actually qualifies as a Heroic Spirit. For a catalyst, just using Irisviel or Illyasviel would work, given that they're basically clones of her, and she has unmatched knowledge of homunculi. And she's a good person in general. This would be ideal, although I kind of doubt that she qualifies for summoning at all. @Random Tale, can we summon her?

Not necessarily. Casters run on the magic rules of their native era, so the magecraft they could TEACH or apply is dramatically different, and not even functional anymore in some cases. Example being Medea's Divine Words running on rules that no longer work. She couldn't teach it.

In this specific case, Tamamo-no-Mae is a fox spirit who was REALLY good at cursing, deception, seduction, never depicted to be much else. Odds are Shirou would wind up with another girl somehow instead :V

Its harsh, but in that situation, at least Kiritsugu can rest easy in the knowledge that he saved his family from getting involved in that mess.
What part of that makes you think he'd get to stay out of it?

Half his family would get involved whether or not the Yakuza are. Taiga, Shirou and Ilya certainly would step in on an individual level when that shit starts up. Ilya is Second Owner, and thus actually legally responsible for it anyway locally, unless she allows the Clocktower to dispose of the refugees, which isn't happening.

Honestly, I am not sure we need a caster familiar with Homunculus to fix Illya, shouldn't Avalon plus any Caster make the surgery fairly trivial? I mean Kiritsugu survived his heart going splat thanks to Avalon. If we use Avalon to get King Arthur, I am pretty certain Saber would not be too offended with the idea of.

"I will return Avalon to you shortly, but I need it to heel my daughter for this risky surgery will you help me?"

I kind of doubt Saber would say no. Well this assumes, the summoning doesn't get hijacked for some odd reason again, but at that point, choosing a catalyst would not matter; because, even our caster summoning would get the wrong person.

Unfortunately, I don't think Avalon works that way. Illya's problem is because of some magic stuff that the Einzberns decided to do while she was in the womb; it's not a physical affliction that can be healed. It would help her survive the surgery, but if we summon Arturia, who's going to do the surgery?

Caster does the surgery. We summon a servant and the TSAB summons a servant, or Kiritsugu does the summoning ritual and Maiya does another summoning ritual.

The problem is that there's no easy fix. This is 'natural' to her biology, so a healing miracle like Avalon would...keep her a child anyway(that's what happened with Arthuria, while she had the sheath she didn't age). Ilya's natural healthy state would be a child., so general miracles would do just that

Ilya, since she wasn't getting set up to die early by the deadly overclocking done to her body, could probably live out her life just fine without it, but she'd be stuck in the body of a 12 year old forever.

This is a quality of life thing. You need a Servant with Body Alteration, but most of those are evil. Merlin might be able to help though. Hmm. Need to dig more mythology.

All this would be much easier if we had the Heaven's Feel. This is EXACTLY the sort of problem that the Third Magic could deal with.

There might be a solution in Belka/Mid-Childa though. Vivio, Einhart and the Belkan Inheritors had a lot of ageup magic(and Rio developed her own brand of ageup magic by overclocking Reinforcement). Maybe a catalyst for a Nanoha series character might be able to do it.
