That JS turned a young child into one of the greatest monsters of the modern age, would they not be at least a bit lenient?
She has killed people for the purpose of hurting people. She has maimed people for the purpose of hurting people. She has hurt people for the sake of hurting people.
Intent only goes so far. One or two dead, it can be brushed off as "unfortunate choices/mistakes". But she has killed and hurt - or helped others to kill and hurt - over a million people easily.

A one million body count is not easy to ignore. Ignoring knowledge of intent, which we know wasn't of her proper volition since she was practically just a puppet for Jacob - she's done things that few would ever forgive under all conceivable scenarios and things which people would question the basic human sanity if they would try to forget it from how great yet terrible it is.

Pragmatically, giving lenience doesn't make sense in story because she has set a precedent willingly or not. Morally, few would forgive her even if they had our knowledge.

Some people make bad choices, some make honest mistakes - and some of them are on the bad end of the game being rigged from the start.
She was the latter most of the three.

It's will be named George, won't it.

In other news, the anti-Cauldron wank in the comment section is just stupid and annoying with itslove of filling up the page with "we are incapable of writing an intelligent antagonist so we'll just double down on masturbating over infinite repeats of a too-dumb-to-live RCB". It's almost as if all the grey!Harry fans found their way here.

Here on SV it's a Bonesaw derail. On SB the derail is that someone suggested to use the same weapon on the Yangban and we are now discussing war with CUI-China (granted, I am sort of guilty by participating in said discussion)

I wonder what it means about the two fora that here people discuss whether or not Bonesaw could have been redeemed and in the other one, how they could immediately proceed to wage war against another country with the tech. Then again, it's Spacebattles, so it's not THAT surprising

Admittedly, the Yangban aren't particularly any better than the S9. The only difference is that the former are a government. And I mean specifically the Yangban, not Worm-China in general.

You know, if there's one thing I find annoying about Cauldron fans is that they come into threads for fanfics which make it blatantly plain that Cauldron will be in the antagonist role and spam their complaints anyway, but would never put up with anybody jamming into the thread for a pro-Cauldron fanfic to spam their complaints.

Seriously, you know why Cauldron keeps taking a pasting in fanfic? I'm at least halfway convinced it's because authors who might otherwise be neutral on the topic get PO'ed at stuff like this whenever they dare to write Cauldron in any light less than positive, and end up going 'Okay, fine.' Whatever good will they might have started with, their own fans keep exhausting with behavior like this.

Because I can certainly name at least one author that's true for - myself. I mean, I didn't exactly come in liking Cauldron - they were already scheduled for an antagonist role in my story from the jump - but by the end of that particular writing process I was even less thrilled by them than I had been at the start, and that was largely due to the efforts of Cauldron's boosters.

Seriously, you cannot push an author into compliance with your own biases by sheer force of persistence. If they don't wanna agree, they just won't. The more you try to push them, the more pushback will happen.

And if that was true in my case, I can't imagine it's much less true of an author who has 'It's impossible to please all readers with everything so I won't even try' as the freaking thread OP.

I'm not sure this a story that is against Cauldron (or has an anti-cauldron bias), at all. Most of the members are reacting pretty logically and IC.

Only Alexandria is reacting badly, and IMVHO that is quite IC for her, because she looks like a massive control obsessed person. Probably a result of her thinker power.

EDIT: Hell even Fortuna is making fun of her, in story...

I didn't realize the omakes would be considered anti Cauldron wank? Totally disagree, the omakes were delightful and if these are considered "wank", then I wouldn't mind more of them in the comment threads.

Valid point. The rest of Cauldron has actually been entirely rational, it's only Becky that looks like an idiot. Of course, I could do an essay on why Alexandria is my least favorite member of the Cauldron steering council, but it largely boils down to 'While she's not the one who did the absolute dumbest stuff, she is the one who had the least excuses of anyone for doing the still substantially dumb stuff that she did.'

Honestly, Alexandria's death scene alone in canon kinda underlines how obsessive she is about getting her own way. There was no reason to go to the frankly insane lengths she did to try and push Taylor into compliance unless her goal wasn't just 'get Taylor to take the deal' but was also 'make Taylor crawl'. She didn't get all those spiders jammed down her lungs by knowing when to use a negotiation tactic slightly more subtle than a death threat. 'Compromise' is visibly not a word anywhere in her vocabulary.

tldr; RCB looks like a raving control freak because she is one.

Even more annoying is people who don't read what they are responding to, and run off the assumptions that only exist in their own heads.

Yes, I mean you.

One is fun, two is repetitive, three is dicks out.

You know that was needlessly crude. And at this point, you just killed any shred of credibility to your position.

Dude, you're not the Omake Police.

And evidently he was right about it, because now I'm writing an Omake where I otherwise wouldn't have.

Hope you don't mind, mp3, love your stories and when I got this idea I had to write it :)

[EARTH-BET VARIANT DETECTED. NON-SHARD DIMENSION. CEASING SC- Oh.]

Oooooohhhh.

This is... Very Interesting indeed. What are you doing with Subspace now, Taylor?

Wait, how are you doing what with Earth-bet level power generation? Is... Is that a subspace power tap?

It is
! How did she get around the-

Wait, why is Alexandria landing by her house? Is she-?

Oh. Ohh no you don't.

-------------------------------------

Alexandria landed with a sharp thud in front of the door to the Hebert household. This attack on the 9 was unacceptable, did they have no idea how many of Cauldron's carefully laid plans they had just torn asunder!?

Sure, they killed thousands of people a year as a group and had probably killed more Capes than they had actually caused to Trigger, but Fortuna said they were important!

The government might not be happy about it, but she was done playing nice with this group - this Danny Hebert was listed as being in charge of the company, so surely he would know where that damn Tinker was!

She could see movement in the surrounding houses as armed agents started to rush out in response to her arrival, but she ignored them.

Nothing they had could threaten her, and it just comfirmed she was on the right track.

"Danny Hebert, you will come out here right now and we will talk the Parahu-" She was then unceremoniously cut off as she was surrounded in blue light and a musical chime before being deposited in a field outside of Brockton Bay proper.

Danny opened the door a crack on its chain, having shot up at the superheroine shouting, and caught a glimpse of Taylor looking strangely at something on her phone before the Cape landed again.

"THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, YOU WILL-" And was once again surrounded by the strange effect, this time being rematerialized in the bay water.

Quicker than before and with a crack that caused half the glass on the street to shatter, she was back again, now dripping wet, red faced and nothing at all like the 'professional hero' she was normally known as.

"I WILL-" This time she was beamed out to a pig sty in the next state over, and would find that any attempt to move even vaguely towards Brockton Bay would result in immediately being transported back there.

"... Huh." Danny said, shrugged, and closed the door again, "Wonder what that was about?"

Meanwhile, Taylor was very interested in the scanning pulse her instruments had detected, and would be yet more so at the next thing that popped up.

Pretty sure. The gravity field only pulled everything within 200m. Manton's was 500m away but the explosion flattened everything for a few km.
Manton was 500m back while they were driving. No reason for him not to pull into the parking lot after they've had time to get out and look around, especially since I'm pretty sure he knows what Siberian knows/sees (IE that there's no one around). He may not have gotten out of his Van, but he had no reason to stop and park a half Km away.
Could be a reference to Turtledoves World War series? Cinnamon worked as as a strong drug to the alien lizards there.
it was part of the joke. 'Spicebottles' 'weaponizing cinnamon'
Not under. In. Everything found itself in a tiny space in the center of the field. A VERY TINY space.

Dave, just set up the field so it lasts 30ms or so after the generator is destroyed
if the generator is destroyed, how would it continue to generate the field?
sigh
I guess you have a point there. It's just... I just can't find it in myself the will to see her dead. It's not because she's a child, but that i see her as innocent of her crimes. Yes, she did do the deed herself, but without "Uncle Jack" she would have never become Bonesaw. So i lay the responsibility for the crimes squarely on the bloodsoaked shoulders of Jack fucking Slash.
A dog that contracts rabies did not ask to become rabid, but it still needs to be put down to protect people and animals around it. simply keeping it locked in a cage is no mercy (and leaves the(however small) chance of it escaping and causing more harm). It's not Bonesaw's fault she's a insane mass murderer, but a cure is rather unlikely and untilshe is cured, she's extremely dangerous to anyone around her.
I wonder if you could perhaps do a staged device; have it start at 9g over the whole of Ellisburg, then spool up to full power while reducing the radius of effect over a few ms, tuned to keep the incoming matter within the edge of the effect?
as I understand it the ratio between 'Area of gravity field' and 'size of blast wave' is exponential, not linear. increase the area of effect for the gravity field three times, and you get a blast wave nine times larger.
a 200m radius field had a blast wave that flattened everything for kilometers of distance, that's at least a 10x factor on area of effect to blast size.
By the time you have a big enough area to be sure to clear out Eliisburg, the blast wave will be covering pretty much all of New York State, chunks of adjacent states, and likely sending tsunamis across Lake Ontario to slam into the (heavily populated) Canadian coast

I guess I'll be "that guy" just this once. I wonder how Taylor is going to feel once the stuff she created starts getting used to kill non-monsters because it's silly to think that they are only going to be used on things like the S9.

"Wouldn't the Primary Asset be upset we're planning on using her tech on non-monsters?"

"Of course not! The Endbringers are giant monsters!"

Rule 3: Be Civil, or, "You know that old adage "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all"? I think this applies here quite aptly. Please refrain from this uncivil behavior in the future."

If I had known that somebody merely voicing their opinion and calling this boring and unimaginative would trigger you this much I'd have done so a lot sooner.

Which was not only explicitly mentioned in the chapter but also pointed out in the comments. But people are far too deep in their own dream worlds to pay any attention to the story they purport to like.

Huh, creating a short-lived ball-bearing sized neutron star. Yep. Hyper gravity can do that.

The primary reason not to use it on ellisburg is because while the blast would utterly destroy everything there they don't want to risk the place havig some kind of biological weapons left behind, and the number of such devices required to suck in the entirety of the area to a sufficient degree to ensure that is not the case would be... impractical. Or even more dangerous, since overlapping fields may caused enough gravity flux to do... bad things. Including creating a black hole. Which these were very carefully designed to fall short of, since that's the point where the gravity crush becomes self-sustaining.

One thing I'm loving about the omakes is that they're all holding true to the core fics approach of 'Even the secret conspiracy thinks Rebecca needs to unclench'.

Lol, who tf is triggered here? If that's being triggered I should try it more often, I'd be a lot more productive :p

Well... Yep, but I'm not sure where the problem is on that one? No one you've previously been complaining about has asked about that, and you always have people that miss things from the story. The correct way to deal with that is to point them to the info they're asking about, not to belittle them.

One thing I'm loving about the omakes is that they're all holding true to the core fics approach of 'Even the secret conspiracy thinks Rebecca needs to unclench'.

This fic's Rebecca at the very least has gotten to the point where all her efforts are just utterly counterproductive, and even the rest of Cauldron can see that.

So they either saved money buying out the town by not having to pay the bounties, or they made up for the cost of buying the town by essentially making the PRT pay for it.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure government agencies, or agents thereof, can not collect bounties for doing their jobs, so I guess they did it out of common human decency, pragmatism, free drinks, the feather in the cap or some combination of the above.

I more meant have the PRT pay out the bounties amongst the townspeople forced to relocate for the second option.
