1) I'm fairly sure Taylor's sexuality was established by WOG rather than in the text. Her relationship with Brian was certainly out of left-field to me, as she'd seemed to have previously found him to be just eye-candy.
2) Bi!Taylor actually has a chance to find someone who can actually help her as much as she helps them, given that the guys her age we saw were either wrecks or too focused on someone in their care to have a real relationship.
3) Amy is popular for shipping because she's snarky and Wildbow screwed her as badly as he did Tay, so pairing them is a nice 'fuck you' to the character abusing asshole.
4) Whinging about a pairing being popular is kinda silly. Unless you're talking about the 'these people are fundamentally incompatible, so clearly they're in love' fics, in which case go right ahead.
Canonically, Taylor is at a minimum bi. Yes, her one relationship was with a man -- but she paid far more attention to the looks of women than she did men.

it was absolutely established by WoG, something about not wanting the cheap reader increase that having a lesbian protagonist would net him, and not believing that he could write a lesbian MC without making it about her being lesbian rather than the story he wanted to tell. there's a similar WoG on Taylor being an Atheist.
in story she read as either Bi or in denial that likes athletic/muscled people, but not bodybuilders

Thanks MP3 for writing and sharing, this has joined Varga as one of my Top 5 Worm fics. I very much enjoy the story. While I am still unsure why/how QA was conveniently hanging around Taylor's house with out either family member having a Pollenta(tia?), what little i know says that's the ONLY way the shards can monitor a person, being as they aren't actually sentient, I'll roll with it.
Of course with it being in orbit(unless i misread), it could be simurgh just using Admin as a title/pseudonym with the other "wave" being Eidalon(sp?)'s "shard" talking... but whatever. It's fun and i semi eagerly await more...
People can't go to movies as friends anymore? Why does one outing set off the shippers? Even though I disagree and don't think their are enough Taylor/Amy stories(yes, yes canon Taylor was straight as far as we saw, but Fanfiction isn't canon, and "what if Taylor was gay/bi" is just as valid as "what if Taylor had different powers", which draws the same criticisms. Don't come to fanon expecting canon) I didn't see "Wanna go watch a movie" and think "Taylor/Amy"... it was "Taylors being a good friend again. Cake Incident 2.0".... Does MP3 even do relationships in these stories?

Dude, your on the internet. People find reasons for shipping that are much, MUCH worse than that. Its what we do here, jump straight into wild conclusions from a standing start, despite a complete lack of evidence or even evidence to the contrary in some places.

I would note there are inaccuracies in the original bit of assessment about subs; namely, regardless of cavitation, subs make more noise at higher speed due to water displacement, and the baffles are a product of the wake, not the propulsion method. Having a power source that avoids the need for water to heat and cool will remove the largest source of sound at most speeds, but faster will always be louder.
Also, Torpedoes would need larger warheads to compensate for the lack of fuel adding to the force of their explosions, just like missiles would. A minor point, but an important one in the redesign process...
