I think they might have a town watch, so that is not necessary.
Something to fight the dark forces of necromancy though...
We would have to pitch it right. Dont want the crown or other religions to use it as a pretext for problems. We build up and the crown might have to react and other religions would have to copy us. Besides "nice death god" does not make me think "military build up" and doing so undermines the first.

We are going to war with the other death gods cult. Sooooo yeah we need an armed force.
I'm all for supporting offical law and military as well as limiting our activities *Very* carefully.

but yeah it seems to be happening because we have some very real threats.

Also, I love to see us bold face lie later on.

"What army?"
"That army!"
"That's just a group of priest"
"They know magic fire marital arts!"
"It's a serene meditative practice on the flame of our matron"
"They killed thousands of undead!"
"Well, yes, that is under our responsibilities within our holy order"

I think we do need a holy order of some kind, but once again, I would caution against going too militarist with this. We absolutely do not need a military yet, and we're too small to support one. When we've got a decent following, at that point we could consider founding a military order with a specific focus on protecting the followers of Morth from persecution, probably also including charitable works in their mandate so they have things to do in peacetime.

We want a peaceful goddess, so we should do everything in our power to spread her worship peacefully. I don't know if Zerrakh has any sort of theocratic state serving him, but if he does, we can take care of that last and in a combined effort with other gods of import and their worshippers. Likewise, any state that outlaws our worship we can either ignore or keep preaching too anyway with the help of our holy order (still acting as protectors, mind you).

EDIT: We should absolutely call them the Knights Chandler. Or probably something longer and more pompous to fit in with other knightly orders, the Impoverished Order of the Knights of the Candle of the Endless Matron or something.

Except we have a cult explicitly kidnapping people in the town we are, a cult that is known to be insanely homicidal, and that is 100% completely opposed to what we want to do.

Also these kidnapping have been happening for awhile as well as the occasional greater threat, the local forces can't handle it, and they are coming after us (or will).

So we are near a military enemy, that local forces can't handle and that force wants to kill us.
Other then arming up, I don't see many practical alternatives.

Lets not jump the gun yet. Likely whoever is doing the kidnappings aren't nice people, but we never know. The GM might throw us a curveball. We're not even into the results of turn 2 yet.

Of course, but infiltrating the death gods cults has to happen.
We know this is an area attacked by that gods forces, frequently enough.
We should still be prepared to some extent, and we can claim it is meditative and religious.

Like have we decided if we are pro or anti undead?
Because saying they are meant only to battle the undead could be an easy justification.

My view of undeath is that it is a choice.
If you wish to summon the soul of a dead person into the realm of the living, the Mask of The Taxman or one of his assistants set up a meeting.
If the soul consents, there will be a contract set up.
Reanimating bodies without a soul is no problem, its just reusing what was there.
...hell maybe souls trapped by the Inferno can shorten their 'candle'/sentence by doing some work as an undead.
As actions can redeem us.

I'd be up for that as well. I actually envisioned our (eventual) fortress-mausoleums and graveyards to be guarded by contingents of both the living and the undead serving time as penance.

Apparently, being responsible for the near-miraculous recovery of a noble's daughter from what would have normally been a lethal illness is worth quite a lot of goodwill.

Can I be this noble? It seems a more realistic reason to join than another person just coming up with this idea at the same time and a nobles influence and skills could be somewhat useful.

I'm picturing him as more of a wealthy noble, who hoarded wealth through much of his life only to be turned away on a whim when he tried to buy a priestly cure for his children. It explains why he had enough money to donate and sets up an interesting narrative for later.

New end goal: Build the Grand Mausoleum from Sunless Skies, corpse of a dead sun and all, and make it our headquarters. I expect we could probably hash that out in a month or two, game time.

No, you may not. I have plans for that particular individual.

I played Far Cry 5, I can no longer imagine little girls helping found a religion without it just being Hope.

We could be Hope! Granted, we're trying not to be evil, but... like, we could bring it around!

(Or you could play your own PC, as is of course your right. :p )

I mean right now the moment I start imagining fantasy characters my mind drifts to GoT, so it'll probably be a while. But yeah, I plan on creating my own character.

Idea: Character Who lost all memory, was found by the Morth Cult and helpt back into a functional state, decides to stat With These Nice people as they helped him in his feet.

But Ofcourse, its your character, just an idea

Don't be picking on my spelling when I'm responding at 3 Am with no sleep while job hunting (Finally got an interview).

Weaponized marriage, eh? Well, "til death do us part" may end up being considerably earlier than planned for a lot of newlywed enemies then.

"Learning things" can mean a lot of things...actually Palstat can probably teach this to someone with Subversion and they can use it to learn lots of information
