The Mushroom God Part 1: A New Beginning
Many a god was born upon when they stole the blessing of the one lucky enough to have earned the reward rightly. Shroomi was one of the gods who had never considered stealing but wasn't one to waste an opportunity. This caused Shroomi to journey with them for it wished to impart its acts upon the world, and let the life below flourish. Mushrooms weren't plants they didn't provide life freely, they grew upon the life of others, either acting as parasites to plant life and animals or feeding on their corpses. This was what made Shroomi love mushrooms, an innocuous life, that fed on others, even if it didn't it had its lovable traits. Mushroom Zombies would be a good idea, Shroomi could make a game out of those....

This was why they created their first act, unsure of themselves, they chose a small innocuous act to help establish their domain. This power was new to them, and they weren't a god that saw themselves as greater, but a background diety supporting new life where it was born. This thought helped shape their first act. Shroomi loved all kinds of mushrooms, so choosing a small and innocuous one they gave birth to the first of many mushroom species the shrimp of the woods an edible mushroom rarely considered great by others. It was one that many would have discounted

They only look Shrimpy when they encounter Honey Mushrooms, otherwise they're a rather bland and uninteresting mushroom, ensuring all life has something to eat, by making it mediocre by most standards.

However, much to Shroomi's despair the other gods did as well, not all of them, some saw the life they tried to make and supported it. Shroomi was eternally grateful, but it didn't seem to be considered when others yearned for something greater. The first sapients they made the shrimp of the woods for, didn't eat mushrooms. They discarded the mushrooms and considered them trash, comparing them to a worse food source than the literal dirt and earth beside it.

This made Shroomi MAD. They hated this species Ante's Minions, if they were going to ignore Shroomi's work, what purpose would the species serve in the ecosystem? It was an aberration to it. At least with Necromancy they took life and nourished it much like a good mushroom. But Ante's Minions were the true abominations. So, Shroomi swore to themself to kill that race off, if they weren't going to eat mushrooms they didn't deserve to live. All life must at least respect the Mushroom!

So, with this minor hatred toward another god's creation, they started to plan. How would they slaughter them? Distracted by their thoughts of revenge for a moment, they looked and saw another sapient species The Fox Spirit. They needed food! They'd eat the mushrooms! This made Shroomi happier than he ever felt before, someone cared for his creation, and worked with it! They cared for the mushrooms and foraged them! Happy days for Shroomi! It was all going to work out, this land only needed one race. Now, it was all about getting their revenge on the other...

Hmm, how to start? The 72 Mushroom-Lords could work. Shroomi knew of them as a lesser-known variant in the unreal, but each one is capable of executing and working with a different aspect of reality. The Mushroom-Lord of Spores was like the Demon-Lord of Disease. However, Shroomi knew never to start a war, when peace was an option, so Shroomi would start with peace. Shroomi would make the Mushroom-Lord Shrimp of the Woods engage diplomatically with that species if they turned down eating mushrooms... It will only take 71 steps for Shroomi to be peaceful in the end as the Lords will come one by one to complete their work to take down Ante's Minions.

However they were distracted once more, someone had made a pun, based on the name of the first mushroom, they should make a Mushroom-Lord of puns, some comedy didn't hurt... Oh, and honey mushrooms, revenge always tasted better sweet!

Shroomi, despite their efforts had already forgotten about their feud with Ante's Minions, they had already become obsessed more with the idea of revenge itself, and its other possibilities. The Mushroom god wasn't a genius, and its mind had already been distracted by other things. Still, it knew it would support things that supported Mushrooms and wouldn't support things that prevented Mushroom Supremacy. For Mushrooms needed to rule supreme according to Shroomi!

Shroomi looked upon the other acts looking for inspiration in their future work. Hmm, they could make 20 different
Mushroom Lords are off of these already! Though they needed direction, so wanted to see if other gods had an idea of Mushroom-Lords they'd like to see... Shroomi asked them, through his way, germinating the idea into their heads by recounting his adventures! They were marvelous! Oh Right! Shroomi wanted revenge! That's why they were making the Mushroom Lords! How was it so hard for sapients to eat food? Shroomi didn't think it was that hard, Shroomi didn't even mind if they were aquatic or ate meat, at least he could cater to their diets, but eating rocks? That was a line Shroomi didn't like. That god would need to pay reparations at least, Shroomi nodded agreeing to that being a peaceful solution to the current predicament Shroomi found themselves in.

Shroomi contemplated mushrooms some more, they were all over the place and were the perfect plant as they grew on top of the old, many species were actively hunted for! They needed their conditions and were hard to farm, showing their fierce independence! Mushrooms were better than plants and animals! They could animate others, animate themselves, be content in the ground, and eat people from the inside out? Besides they came in so many delightful colors! They could be psychedelics, or cause a million and one strange things to happen. Shroomi loved mushroom cakes, and stuffed mushrooms were loved by many! Who couldn't help but love mushrooms? Besides Ante? Ante Sucked. Shroomi nodded in his assessment of the world.

I've heard in any story make one enemy and one friend. Ante made himself an enemy by making his sapients that way, so I accepted his set-up of the situation and allowed ourselves to be enemies. It helps my plan was making Mushroom-Lords already though I doubt I'll make 72 of them, and having a war, or at least pettiness between the gods should help make this story a bit more interesting...

Shroomi is a forgetful impulsive god, and tried to reflect it in this omake.

Love your enthusiasm, but ummm... Ante's minions can eat mushrooms, they just supplement it with materials like rocks, I'm not sure what your on about them not eating your mushrooms?

Interesting, well this is a decent omake so have 1 loose vote. This is a vote you can throw on an act after voting is completed. Closing votes in like 20m

I have no leg in this race. There's only 3 i can see getting through with my vote to the next level however.

1) Obscurity
2) Ante's Minions
3) Shrimp of the Woods

I will make my choice, but I can be Bribed persuaded to vote for a different option.

Offer: @ me next turn, and I'll change my 3 votes to whatever you wish.
Accept?

I'm going to vote for myself.

Beginnings
Life-From-Dust watched the others begin their tasks, taking great enthusiasm with their duties and discoveries. The turtle watched, the grass cultivated, the shrimps of the woods arranged. The kimono hidden in a safe place even with being trusted as another duty. Even the wisps of magic gently tickled his face as he pondered his world.

He knew and taught about the deities, both lesser and greater. Those whose powers barely changed the world. Those who showed their talent with life and concept. And those who brought forth the new magics and almost kin of the world. Thoughts about Nemod however grew sorrowful and worried.

Life-From-Dust never blamed his maker, for he was the first born of the fox spirits and thus the prototype. Nemod had taken it hard as he laid eyes upon him after seeing the other. His body had come out crippled and frail. His lifespan far shorter than would be usual for his kind. Thus Nemod had sequestered himself to find a way to fix it.

Life-From-Dust would be happy for existing in the first place no matter what happened.

-------------------

So, I actually meant to do short introduction for next turn but thought to introduce a one off character here. To be fair, Life-From-Dust isn't a champion or anything more. He is literally the prototype of the Fox Spirits, the first made and other than that a nobody. And while the others came out better, he came out wrong. A sad happening but one that helps set up my next action rather well.

Could we all agree to not directly smite each other's creations? It would really suck to have something you made struck by lightning or have a species die of a plague and that just seems likely to lead to loops of vengeance which are fun for nobody.

The missing on the magics surprised me, but apperantly it was block voting and not line voting, which means that they still pass.

The Mushroom God Part 1: A New Beginning

Pretty damn cool.

I like how Shroomi is so petty he's willing to indulge in mass killings cause someone doesn't like mushrooms.

Very Greek God.

I promise not to do it... unless it would be funny to do so.

I will smite fairly and equally, for comedic timing.

Could we all agree to not directly smite each other's creations?

I can agree with this— less smiting means more creations for me to eventually try and drive mad (insane). Ohhhh the chaos. Speaking of chaos and creations— I like the Shrimp and Mushrooms, they're fine for now.

Everyone likes a bit of life— maybe I should make my own form of life next turn… hmm, maybe something that can sustain itself by feeding off of emotions (literally— as in momentarily getting rid of them (or should it be the them being in the presence of said emotions))? The former lets me make a creation that feasts on fear (and is encouraged to cause it) while also having other (not-mad) uses— such as maybe helping mediate arguments/comfort other sapients by removing some of those pesky emotions. The latter on the other hand, is said creations essentially being a net negative rather than potential positive if they don't actually get rid of the emotion and instead just hang around because then they're spectators that are encouraged to worsen whatever's going on for more sustenance.

What to pick, what to pick… probably the former, but the latter would be me continuing the trend of slowly introducing bad things in general to the world.

Why are you gravitating towards fear when you said emotions? Happiness, would be the other side you should look both on, unless your only going for fear eaters.

Gifts. Objects of power. But whatever mortals are doing with them is on mortals. Annatar brings gifts, but do not restrict their usage. :drevil:

Despair and fear experienced more acutely, when you drop someone into them from the very top of love and happiness. This is when true madness is born pretty often. :drevil:

Just a tiny free advice. Consider it a gift. :V

I'm gravitating towards fear because causing madness/insanity is my figurative 'role' in this as the 'Patron of Madness'. But I also understand that some compromises/concessions may need to be made and I'm not entirely trying to be a net negative. Going more broadly with emotions means I can still pursue 'fear-eaters' as an offshoot to cause some madness, while also meaningfully adding something to the world.

(Edit as an aside): Now that I think of it— there's a great many things that can be done if they literally eat the emotions rather than just feed off the presence of said emotions. I think I'm going to go with them eating/temporarily getting rid of said emotions. So many uses…

I like to think that because of your machinations we're getting a Lovecraft feel for this entire region, fear and paranoia run rampant.

A permanent aura of something being off and wrong.
