One of my questions earlier to I Just Write was about what makes a Mad Scientist a Mad Scientist. After all, you can be a Mad Scientist with just a Research score of 2, which is low enough for us to just hire mortals. The main reason Im aiming at Net Navis instead of hiring people is because we only have to pay once, as opposed to paying a salary, rather them actually being better.

To be honest, there's a lot of stuff about the setting that even I haven't taken the time to figure out. This is one of those things, though I have spent some time thinking about it. The problem is coming up with a way to explain what Mads can do without tying them to one of the other setting elements in a way I really don't want to do.

Okay, I'll pile in on that seeing as buzzkill's got like five people on it already and I'd rather we get two regular successes than one major failure and an epic success.

-[X] An highly advanced testing facility designed to safely and securely hold prisoners/test subjects of the magical/supernatural/other such nonsense kind. Designed with as many defenses, weapons, facilities, and other such gimmicks as she can fit. Designed in mind for an island facillity or somewhere equally isolated. It.... appears to be vaguely cat shaped for some reason. You wouldn't recognize it unless you were looking for a cat shape.

Well according to the front there's something called "Sparking" at play and we're "Sparks" in a GG reference, but I mean.

It's not like I'm wrong either? Being able to have a research project get 300 points automatically sorta means we only coordinate and provide ideas and leave the actual mad science part of the mad science to minions, as well as the combat part and administrative part and stealth part. But that's our thing, we empower the mortals and create minions to do stuff for us. I don't see why that stuff shouldn't include research and development.

I feel almost obligated to do it because Felicia has a 4 in Espionage, plus the Unusual Stray Cat Colony gives a +%8 to any Espionage mission she's on. BUT at the same time, the raid is good for leveling up combat, which we might not get another chance to do again soon. Plus more specific orders and such, though I guess the Cat Friends are probably smart enough to carry out orders.... but still! *flails*

Yeah, I'm not going to be able to decide on my own, so I'd really appreciate it if you guys let me know your opinions on where she should go for the good of the group and such. Please.

Trust your heart.

I mean I choose raiding since the only one besides me that raiding are Will. E. and Diptock plus few firebots, I think. Combat Is my highest stats after all.
 
I'd go with Espionage, stick to your specialties. Trust the rest of us to deal with the mages, combined with our allies at SASRI, and all the robots we're throwing in that general direction.

You don't have to give the lore reason, I'm currently mostly interested in it from a mechanics standpoint. What is the difference between getting help from a Mad Scientist, as opposed to help from 2-3 researchers. Currently, I don't think there is a difference. I can spit ball some stuff for you if you want.
First, Mortals on their own, no matter how smart, are not able to get nearly the same amount of work done as they do when working under a Mad Scientist. The Mad Scientist knows how to command their underlings to get more than their max potential out of them, from normal orgnaizational stuff such as knowing where to make them work and what not, to threats and motivation, probably even having some of their mad genius rubbing off on their minions (much like Girl Genius Sparks do).
Second, could introduce some sort of multiplier based on how many Scientists are working on the thing together. That way, when it's a choice between working with a Mad Scientist and a equally smart (Research Level wise) Mortal, the Mad scientist is always the better option. This could reflect not just another font of brilliance, but also the two (or more) mad scientists inspiring eachother, giving them more ideas together than they would have had seperately. To get metaphorical, a Mad Scientist glows with the Light of Genius, while Mortals might be able to reflect the light, they can never make it on their own, nor can they add more light.

Sooo, IC, basicly a Mad scientist not necessarily smarter than a normal scientist. The one thing that separating that separating Mad scientist and usual genius/scientist is that Ideas constantly goes through mad scientist mind and the capabilities or willingness to bring them to reality. Closer to instinct rather than knowledge, this inspirations of Idea guide the mad scientist even if they barely understood what they're doing. Things they never knew whispered to their mind as they work on their creation that much more than known science.

Sometimes this spark of madness resulting in rather normal but quite advanced creation, a useless thing that unnecessarily complex or things that could barely able to be understood by anyone besides the creator. In the end, perhaps there are geniuses smarter than a mad scientist. However that doesn't mean those genius have the spark of inspiration to go past the limit of current science nor are they capable to do so by themselves.

Hmmm, maybe I should stop writing things in 5 AM.

Yeah. Albert Einstein for example was incredibly smart, but he was still mortal. He completely reshaped science as mortals knew it, but we have made as much progress in these past two weeks as he did in his career.

Unlike in many other setting (like GG or worm and maybe WoD), Mad Scientist here actually IS scientist. What they did could be replicated, it just what they knew miles away from norm science and usually through a twisted path.

I think maybe various philosopher and scientist like Einstein, Tesla, those guys that spouted about Solarcentric, could be categorized as mad scientist. It just the spark is grow stronger with time and humanity and much more bullshit stuff could be invented.

GG tech can be recreated by mortals. That's the job Agatha started out with, she was a student in a university studying spark tech and teaching people how it works. Sparks there seem to mostly just have super human intuition. They have a native understanding of how everything fits together and how to manipulate it.

And I don't really believe Edison and what not were Mad Scientists. Frankenstein might have been an example of a old time Mad Scientist, and the mortal scientists we know are nothing like them, especially since none of them seemed TOO interested in taking over the world or really had any of the personality traits of the properly Mad.

--[X] The template wil be named a Pillah, a biomechnical hybrid, drawing from our knowledge from both biology and robotics. The biological half is able to produce chemicals that are sealed into pils by the mechincal half. These creatures are able to produce any chemical known to MAD.

@Happerry I hate to impose but could you help me with the Pillahs? They could serve as medics and chemical aids. That and they can use the resurection and felisation formule to make cat-pills and zombie-pils which can help in combat. Although the net navi seem kinda important too :/
Granted I'd happly help with either the gun or the Navi. Although I believe others are making them too.

A low thumping is heard as a large platform is carried in by a group of four smal, puggy creatures upon which lies a large machine being held by a fifth of the creatures, some chests and a large chair on which a obese man in obvious MAD SCIENCENTIST attire sits.
This man is proffesor DeDeDe, here to defend the world from who would ruin it.

After DeDeDe has his equipment and M3 device in palace, he gets him self aquinted with his new colleques.
He finds an odd kinship with Dr.Wily and Dr.Eggman, although I can't realy tell why.
He also feels connection too fellow slackers Lisa and XNFE, although he is less happy when XNFE absconds with one of his waddles as teddy bear because there "Super mega adorable, they could weaponise it"

After getting his bearings on his colleques, Dr.DeDeDe starks with ordering his Dee's to do something useful, so they run off to help create mechanogoblins.
He decides to help Albert on his next project and create a new minion for the M3 to produce.
Ah, the life of mad scientist is a busy one, but a fulfilling one.

By the way, it said that our advantage to other faction is we can create strong enough Minion right?

Say, what field should we get to make MISAKA.net or the one-way road? Or Imaginary Number District is enough too.

I feel this one has tremendous potential, especially for anything involving people- combat planning, economics, wide scale manipulations, etc.
Could also see it successfully used as a research aid, running the more complicated simulations.

Oh, also it's one step closer to singularity. :p
