I like having North America in the country's title, and naming it Douglass Commune means we get to keep the acronym. :D Also Douglass was just a really fascinating dude. He's a great figure from history to choose.

I like the North American Commonwealth name suggestion. New York as capital is really more just roleplaying and I don't expect it to actually win, but it being a compromise choice for the Constitutionalists is also intriguing. And I agree on the principle of letting the commune residents decide, but the name of "Potomac Commune" just rings with me.

I'm really into the idea of redeveloping St. Louis into a new central city and symbol and this works

DC has historically been a very Black city and so Douglass or Tubmann or Denmark Vessey or any Black figures fits as a new name and symbol for a change
and everywhere should be encouraged in these efforts

My choice of Anacostia Commune is entirely because it means it's switching from DC to AC, and electrical terms make it funny in an abstract way.

DC -> AC is pretty funny. Voting for Metropolis for similar reasons, there's an untapped gold mine of bits there. For instance, the capital of a revolutionary state* with ambitions of creating a unified and worldwide government, surely the only appropriate name for their leading newspaper would be the Daily Planet :V

*but not like a state, state, you know what i mean. Don't @ me anarchists.
