Zerg Quest RIOT QUEST

Well, Zedalb answer to my question if my write-in is valid was "Meow". I'm going to take it as "Yes" (otherwise he'd, most likely, said that we can't do that).
So, here we go.

[X] Mine Minerals (1d10)
-[X] Prepare to burrow when birds start their attack.

The pessimistic drone continues its monotonous work. The attack on the hive is inevitable. And current defenses definitely not enough to repel it. But there's still some hope. If that drone survive, it may have chance to rebuild the hive. So, the drone watchs the skies for incoming birds, to hide as soon as they arrive.
edit: It seems that in its acceptance of the inevitability of Fate and everyone's mortality, the drone was close to achieving Nirvana and enlightenment... Unfortunately, not close enough.

Alright, quick update. We stand at 20 Minerals, and 33 Vespene. I'm going to do a Mineral roll, and we have enough vespene to produce 3 more Falcons.

[X] Mine Minerals (2d10)
-[X] Prepare to burrow when birds start their attack.

The news of the attempt to use the Giants as a foil failing as it had was... distressing. As was the news about the fiery worm beneath their very limbs. They would need the essence of the Lava Toads to have any hope of combatting such an effect. But now the birds were coming. those who had lost their forms clothed their minds in new, winged, flesh. He continued to dig though, the mental running tally of resources, how much going where and when constantly ticking up and down in the back of his mind.

Minerals were always the worst; because they were the most needed. They contained everything that the larvae required to construct their new bodies. Literally becoming the bones and organs of the Swarm. Without the crystalline substance the Swarm would have to range much wider, excavating countless different forms of stone and amassing great amounts of biomass to fuel their ever-expanding needs.

Even as he dug and pondered the serendipity of these resources, he kept his limited echolocation and other non-visual senses on alert. The attack was coming, and he would not risk himself. As soon as he detected the first birds, he'd burrow down out of sight and reach; until the coast was clear... or the hatchery had fallen.

Current total is 44 Minerals, 33 Vesepene.
I'm assuming that most of the semi-mindless drones will just jam in minerals and go so
[X] Collect Vespene Gas (1d10)

The birds were coming. The thrum of... not quite fear, not quite excitement that filled the hivemind was a constant itch in the mind of the Drone, a concern there wouldn't be enough defenses, enough troops, enough anything.
And so it gathered gas to fuel more advanced forms. Soon the hive would either feast or perish, and then... progress again, rather than the grind for immediate war.

Zedald gives a Meow to every post in the thread.
For one - no, not every post. Proof below:
The Harvester Queen examines the swarming of the Hive at the approaching horde of Birds.
Go check that post, it don't have "Meow".
Also, Zedalb used "Like" formerly. Go and check first page.
For another one - that still mean that he have read my post and didn't said that my write-in invalid for more than a hour and half (as it was when I wrote the post you quote).

Okay, so can someone confirm, if I was afk since turn 1, I do drone actions? I also see there something about my "body" dying in the rules?

If you were afk, I don't think you get to retroactively apply actions. But that's up to @Zedalb. Also, your body "dies" if you transition to another form like zergling or falcon without dying or becoming a building first.

More seriously, if nothing has explicitly happened to you, you're still a drone. The other drones will think you're lazy for sitting around doing nothing for so long, though.

Hmm, what to do myself. I could boost resource collection some more, but I could also start a research project for after this (if we survive), or do an 'attack-like' thing to try to help our chances (which we might need), like...
[] Lead an Attack
-[] Plan Disruptive Strike
If the Birds hit us all at once, they are likely to overwhelm our defenses through sheer numbers. But so far at least they've been relatively easy to distract, at least in small groups and for short distances. Further, the Falcons are dependent on their superior speed for defeating the Birds, and may be at a disadvantage defending a fixed location.
-Gather all the mindless Falcons that can hatch in time and send them out in ones and twos to disrupt and harass the Bird flocks, killing them where possible and drawing away the resulting counter-attacks. Use the Falcons' superior speed to kite the Birds, avoid getting surrounded.
-Aim to break up large Bird swarms into smaller chunks and draw them into our defenses piecemeal rather than letting them hit all at once. What we cannot defeat as a block we may be able to destroy in detail.
-Any Zerglings that want to join can also attempt to lure Birds into traps or far off course, while killing small groups when they can.
-Queen will stay in the base and dig in for the coming assault
--[] Second stage if possible; Counterstrike
--If a decent amount of mobile forces remain after the attack, go for the Bird nests and try to destroy them while their forces are depleted from the attack.
--Falcons draw out the Bird guards and defeat them in the air, while any living zerglings slip in to attack the nests and destroy the eggs.

It is almost therapeutic to dig for more materials. A pity that the singing one lost it's body against the flying rats, but since it was a skirmish some loses are expected to happen.

Those annoying flying rats better not attack the base again. Because if they disrupt the mining flow then you will become... annoyed.

And they will learn to fear you when you are annoyed.

Yeah, you're still a drone. You probably just wondered off and got distracted by shiny rocks that turned out not to be minerals or something. So you can take actions as any other drone could.

Well bois, let's do this.

This wasn't good. None of this was good.

All it wanted was to Hunt. To chase prey through the underbrush and bring it down, to gather biomass for the Hive.

But these blasted birds just had to keep mucking it up! First killing it, then attacking the Hive itself, forcing it into taking action against its nature that, in the end, proved practically useless anyway, as the new war-forms prove too expensive to be of use against the coming threat.

So it does the least expensive and most effective thing it can think of: it becomes one of the forms designed specifically to fight the Flyers.

It hates that it cannot hunt.

I don't think the boosts stack - so if boosting resources you'd be stuck with boosting biomass gathering.

Boosting Biomass while hunting is suicide seems foolish. So instead... Let's do this people! For the researc--err, the Swarm!

The inquisitive mind that wanted to be a researcher was yet again vastly frustrated with the irritating Birds. They kept being annoying and threatening and killing the zerglings and they didn't even have much biomass on them to make the war worthwhile. So it would show them what annoyance was! It would take the new obnoxious Falcons that were hatching and mess up their attack so that it would break apart and hit the spore crawlers in small enough numbers to be annihilated! And maybe try some other tactic-y stuff too. The mind would prefer to be a Research Queen, but if a Tactician Queen was what was needed... it recalled some kind of saying about not bothering sages amounts their books? But what were books again? Now it wanted some. Maybe it could make some out of Bird leather, that seemed appropriate.

Edit: Meh, okayish roll, at least my luck with tactics is better than with minerals.
