[Worm AU] Cogito Ergo Lung : I Think, Therefore I Am Dragon

Well, it's not the case unless someone wants to send a message.

I wonder if this Lung will do anything about the Canary case?
Fair point. That one is acknowledged to be a rare and unusual miscarriage of justice even in-setting, though, so we can probably assume with some relative confidence that this is not the usual process.

Well, Taylor thinks so, at the very least, and depending on how the three-strike rule might be interpreted, it could be a completely legit case. A reliable narrator Taylor is not, at least not as far as I could see.
I do agree that Lung should maybe do something about it, if only to appease his Pearl. Plus, he'd get access to a Master who has never shown any qualms over mastering large swaths of people, which could be useful to him. And even if it's not, his power can hijack her, and letting an opportunity to get access to the "Valefor On Crack"-power slide seems like a bad idea.
The alternative is taking Canary and utterly dismantling her in front of Taylor (not Pearl!Taylor, regular Taylor). An example to the younger Master on what not to do if you don't want people to crack down on you.

I'm not sure that reasoning really makes sense. Something like a "three strikes" law only really has a point if it's one strike per conviction. I mean, how many crimes can a parahuman commit that do not involve the breaking of at least three laws in the process? Can't imagine there are terribly many of those, because to the best of my knowledge even regular, non-parahuman crime tends involve a bevvy of incidental secondary charges. If the three strikes worked like that, then a lot of people ought to be going to the Birdcage practically on a first offense, which we do know isn't actually the case.
You would think that wouldn't you? But no, most three strike laws in real life are written to apply per felony count of conviction. Lots of people have ended up sentenced under the 3 strike law who were only tried once. Hold up a half dozen gas stations armed? That is 6 counts of armed burglary, which is more than 3, so 3 strike mandatory sentencing applies. Yes, screwed up legal systems are a thing. Now, if our friendly bomber had known the hidden facets of the PRT and Cauldron, she would know that it would be easy for her to go ahead and plea to joining up, purely due to having a useful power with minimal real victims. But, no way for her to know :)

Huh. Well, now I certainly know better. Teach me to expect the legal system to make sense, lol. Thanks.

Unpopular opinion, but I feel most of the cuts from different points of view weakened the chapter. Most transitions felt ... Off is the best way to describe it.

The only one I felt that was really good was from the count down to Vista. That one felt good.

... if there's one thing I can say definitely say about this chapter is that I can never quite predict what is goign to happen next

There was a lot going on and I enjoyed the interactions, especially that final one.
Miss Militia and Vista have aftereffects from Lung's Trump ability seems pretty interesting too; he doesn't seem to be aware of this so I'm curious to see if others might have similar things happen to them

Was "Shirabaku-Sensei " his kindergarten teacher or something? In my head now I imagine a little Kenta declaring he wants to be a giant robot when he grows up, only for his humourless teacher to shut him down. Privately though, little Kenta didn't give up hope, and he mutters "Challenge accepted."

@Ljapaubeaves Danke.
@Kuruoshi Junior High teacher, mentioned back when he was briefly Emerald King Lung.
@Simon Buchan Canary represents a conundrum to me. On the one, like Panacea, she's everybodies woobie, so the question becomes, what does Lung do to woobies?
@Blonddude42 A perfectly acceptable statement to make, as I said, I do tend to fall back on them as a way to tie multiple issues together so I don't have to care about them until later. A weakness of mine.

As for the talk about the three strikes bit...damn.
I wanna say, and I thought I was laying out the hints, but to outright say it might spoil things.
I tell you what, if you want to be spoiled a teeny bit, send me a PM.

Otherwise, I am off, doing battle with the janky PRT messageboard generator.

He adopts them, like injured birds he takes care of them until they're healed.

Then trains them to become terrifying weapons of WAR.

He will take in the injured Canary and release upon the world the dreaded Cassowary
Well that makes me wonder what other woobies he could adopt.

Dragon? Dinah? Or perhaps Riley and Noelle?

Maybe Labyrinth, but I'm not sure if she's considered as such since she has somewhat decent people already taking care of her by the start of the story, so she's *merely* in the "must protect" category.

I'm also thinking Burnscar a little, partially because of that one fic where Taylor has her powers, gets into a big fight with Lung, and then they escape the Birdcage transport together.

He's already started to adopt Dragon, he gave her a new name at least. Riley he MIGHT rescue, but probably not. Noelle... maybe? I doubt it thought, he'd probably be more for killing her before she can be a threat.

Burnscar and Labrynth are relatively underutilized characters. Cage does a good job with giving them an interesting backstory though.

I love this version of Lung, even before he found his pearl, the level of kayfabe that he was pulling off is astounding.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens with Bakuda because I really doubt her ability to restrain herself from doing something explosive.

We're all excited to see where the situation with Dragon goes.
Any of the Slaughterhouse 9 being rescued and adopted would require them to show up... but I could see Riley and Burnscar both being more than willing to stick around without Jack Slash goading them on.

I'm curious how this Lung will interact with Coil. He now has an idea of Coil's true influence, of Coil's true power. And Coil was really the villain of the first, what, third to half of Worm? An enemy that it takes a truly horrible amount of effort to beat. Or, as this Lung might consider him - a worthy opponent.

yeah, but didn't lung mess with Lee's neural connections to reconnect his memories, after Amy's mastering of Lee?
Lung was making connections based on what he could see in the decapitated heads. Amy made her changes with actual understanding of what she was doing. It's like someone trying to fix a car based on a diagram versus an actual mechanic sabotaging it.

But Amy's power gives her the knowledge she uses to biosculpt/heal, it's not like she studied how to master a brain, so Lung using her power should give him similar levels of knowledge, so Lung should be able to undo Amy's work
