I'm curious. Did anyone read it without first reading the invisitext that said what the crossover was, and if so, at what point did you figure out the crossover?

I did, but it might not count for your question since I'm not familiar with the crossover in the first place, so I never figured it out or even made the connection after looking. But I did think it was a nice start that didn't require prior knowledge to actually be interesting or catch my attention, which I personally think is good regardless of whether or not any given reader will be able to pick out the crossover.

(Worm/Supergirl) A Family Affair
A Family Affair (Worm/Supergirl)

My name is Taylor Hebert, and I have a secret. Not even Emma, my former best friend knows about it.

It's about my sister. She's adopted. And she's... not from around here, you might say.

Her name is Kara Hebert. But she was born Kara Zor-El. You might know her better as... Supergirl.

Mom and Dad adopted her just a few years ago, as a favor to my cousin Clark. We were eleven. Well, I was, and biologically, so was she, but suspended animation and time dilation made it a little weird. Did you know she's technically older than Superman? She is.

Then Mom died. I think Kara blamed herself. Kryptonians -- her species -- get superpowers from the sun, but she'd only been on Earth a short time. Her powers weren't very strong yet.

Still, we had each other, and I had Emma.

Emma. She was my best friend then. I'm not sure what happened, to be honest. I guess she felt neglected. Or maybe she got tired of me being a wet blanket. I don't know.

She tried to drive me away. Tried to hurt me, taunt me even, but Kara put a quick end to that. A stern look and a few quick words deflated her, and when her new friend tried to shove her around...

Well, let's just say that that didn't work out.

Kara... she had powers, but she didn't want to put on a costume. She wanted a normal life.

But we live in Brockton Bay. "Normal" just wasn't on the table.

A/N: I know, I know. No actual story here, but it seemed like the right place to stop. Trying to transition from here to, well, anything just feels wrong.

Short and sweet. Feels more like a mini-interlude to expand on background details of a heavy AU than an independant snippet. It works well.

I like it. Or, at least, what there is of it. It seems like it's less of a Taylor focused story, and more a Taylor-as-narrator story, which is a nice little change (if that's actually what you're going for, anyway).

It's not fair to you, but just reading this I started disliking it. The problem is, while I'm sure unlike most stories which add a sibling you'll make an effort to have the characters behavior fit the changed conditions, much like you came up with a decent explanation for why Supergirl didn't save Annette the problem is there are too many stories which have Taylor have a sibling...and somehow nothing in how people act changes. to the point my immediate reaction to any story where she has a sibling is negative.

That said I'm looking forward to seeing if you can make it work it would be great to see supergirl and superman in Worm in a well written story that has them actually fit in the setting.

(Worm/???) Good Dog: Adoption 1.1
Good Dog (Worm/Spoilers!)
Adoption 1.1

Taylor first met the dog in February.

"There she is," one of the boys called. "Get her!" Behind them, she could see Sophia, the obvious mastermind -- to use the term loosely -- behind whatever they were planning.

Taylor backed away a couple of steps and was about to turn and run when the dog appeared.

Girl scared! Protect girl!

Standing between Taylor and the boys, the white Labrador bared his teeth and growled at them, a low, menacing rumble. The boys stopped for a moment. The one on the right hesitantly tried to edge around the dog, only for him to snap at him warningly.

The one on the left broke first. "Fuck this," he said, throwing his hands up and backing away from the dog and Taylor.

Taylor didn't hear the empty threats they made as they left -- they'd forget about her soon enough -- nor did she see the venomous glare Sophia threw her way. She was focused on the dog. For all that it had seemed to protect her, who knew what it was going to do next?

The answer, it turned out, was turn around and look at her, tongue lolling out.

Girl safe. Girl happy?

Taylor held her hand out warily, and the dog stepped forward, sniffing it, then licking it. She took a slow step backwards... and the dog lunged.

The next thing she knew, she was on her back, the dog on top of her, licking her face. It tickled.

Girl safe! Girl happy!

When Danny Hebert got home, he was greeted by the sight of his daughter on the couch, petting a white Labrador.

"Uh, hi, Dad," she said, waving awkwardly. "He, uh, followed me home?"

Happy.

A/N: I really do hope I can turn this into something longer, hence the optimistic title format. We'll see.

(Robotech) Pioneers
Pioneers (Robotech)
"Per aspera ad astra."
Prologue

In 2011, the Rain of Death devastated out Earth's civilization. Only the defection of the Imperial Fleet under Breetai, dwindling protoculture supplies forcing the Main Fleet to prioritize its targets to conserve power, and a lot of luck allowed some remnant of it to survive.

In 2014, determined not to let it happen again, the people of Earth embarked on a massive undertaking.

It was called the Pioneer Mission.

It started with exploration. Every fold-capable warship set out to explore nearby star systems, spreading out to find habitable planets, and in their wake, Angel-class colony ships followed to fulfill the Gloval Initiative.

Now, however, with the flagship nearing completion, the second component of the mission had begun.

Commander Vanessa Leeds, United Earth Spacy, sat in the UES Bowfin's command chair and resisted the urge to drum her fingers on her armrest console as the ship crept through the outer edges of the star system.

After they'd pulled her from the wreckage of the SDF-1 in the wake of the Battle of New Macross, it had taken weeks of surgery and months of physiotherapy before she had even been able to walk again. There had been some question of whether she was still fit for duty. Even Lisa had been hesitant, but she'd worked her ass off to get back into shape and pushed, prodded, and pleaded for a return to active duty. And not some desk job on a base or space station somewhere either, a starship posting.

She'd gotten it.

The Bowfin was her first command. She was a Garfish-class light cruiser, one of the first new ship classes deployed by the UEDF after the Rain, and she retained the aesthetics of the Zentraedi ship the class had been based off of, the rounded curves interrupted only by the gigantic turret and the sharp angles of the modular hangar bay attached to her belly.

Assuming they didn't find anything here, they'd be folding back to Sol and getting shore leave just in time for the wedding.

"Ma'am, we're picking up faint transmissions in the EHF bands," OS2 Mitchell Chambers reported. "Fragments only, but it's encrypted."

"Pirates?" Vanessa prompted. That had been one of the unexpected problems to crop up as humanity began exploring the stars.

The death of Dolza and most of his highest-ranking subordinates over a decade ago had shattered the Zentraedi chain of command. Of the remaining Zentraedi, some had fairly independent assignments -- such as Reno's garrison of the factory satellite -- and remained steadfast at their posts, but the rest were left lost and adrift, and not all of them were receptive to Earth's rather aggressive recruitment. And in the end, ships still needed supplies, crew still needed food, and Zentraedi instincts still tended toward violence.

Chambers shook his head. "I don't think so, ma'am. I'm pretty sure it's a Zentraedi encryption pattern, but I can't find a match on the encryption keys. Whoever it is updated their codes."

I guess I'll be missing the wedding.

A/N: This has been sitting on my hard drive for a while. Here's hoping by putting it out there, I might be able to bring myself to actually do something with it.

Ehh, given your output volume over the last year or so, you'll have to forgive me if I'm somewhat skeptical of that happening.

I mean, yeah, I want more from you (especially some of your older unfinished works), I'm just not holding out too much hope.

I didn't say it was likely, just that I was hopeful.

I had a random weird idea today that can be summarized by the following line:

"My name is Theo Anders. After five years in hell, I have come home with only one goal: to save my city. To do this, I must become someone else. I must become something else."

Kaiser would be torn between pride and rage if/when he found out, methinks.
