I feel like people frowning upon necroposts just get too hyped whenever they see 'update to X story' and don't even think to see if it's the OP posting instead of a random necropost.
Y'know, you gotta follow the post in order to receive notifications about updates and there's an option right in front of your face to only receive OP posts. :/
Not saying necroposting is awesome, saying that complaining about it is kinda stupid when there's already a system in place to largely solve it as a problem.

This pushes down actually alive threads, potentially off the first page, resulting in at least one thread that hasn't died yet being less accessible. Which means it might end up dying even though the topic isn't done yet.
Hence the soft "no necro posts without content worth discussing" rule you see on every forum in the internet.
