What's the most Cringeworthy Alternate History you've ever read?

Nuking Mecca and going to war with the overwhelming majority of the Islamic world while turning America into Randland isn't going to make Bush be remembered as a hero, it's going to make him be remembered as the next Hitler and turn America into a universally despised pariah state.

someone should write a TL where bush nukes mecca and privatizes the entire economy, but then soon after it reverts back realism, and george bush is overthrown after destroying the economy and america is made into a pariah state while the middle east collapses into war.

Clearly this is the Command and Conquer Generals timeline that sees super-Al Qaeda destroy NATO and forces China to have to save the day while America mopes back to its own borders for the rest of eternity.

Maybe that's why the E.U seems to surrender to the GLA without a fight after the GLA crushes the American forces in Europe. They're actually liberating Europe from an occupying army.

I could get behind this idea if canon GLA weren't so cartoonishly evil, killing vast numbers of innocent civilians for absolutely no coherently-explained reason...

Unless we treat C&C: Generals as a work of in-universe propaganda. There might actually be a good story in this.
 
See there's this awful timeline I once read. First that old has-been Nixon gets elected president despite previously losing a presidential election then a gubernatorial election in his home state. Then a mere 6 years after Watergate, the GOP elects a Hollywood actor and former Democrat as president and ushers in a new era of conservatism. No amount of botched wars or recessions can keep them down for long. This all culminates in the election of Donald Trump of all people as president, only for it to turn out he's basically a Manchurian candidate for the Russians or something. Its like a hybrid hatefic/wankfic. Alt-Hist-Fic writers seem to think anything can pass muster these days.

I mean, given that China seems to be some Orientalist caricature of the Maoist era PLA with some token elements of modernity thrown in, it could very well all be a lot of butthurt propaganda from an American nostalgist angry that the American Empire was defeated by a middle eastern coalition and saw its satellite states in Europe ripped away from it by the liberation effort and then was usurped by an ascendant PRC on the global stage.
 
Might as well throw in america being taking over by Cobra Commander and its propaganda put out by him to the american masses he rules with a iron fist...

Nah that would be too epic and cool for the Command and Conquer General timeline.
 
Not going to lie, it's my own.

On the bright side, wanting to write alternate history eventually led me to learn more about actual history. Which made me not want to write alternate history anymore because now I realize that history is fractally complicated and I won't ever know a hundredth of what I'd need to in order to consider my writing even close to realistic.
 
There's a HOI4 mod called Rise of Italia. In it, Italy is a super power and Billy Graham is President of United States. What's stupid about that is that in 1936, Graham was 18 years old.

Wait, is that the one that's so oddly biased? Like nationalism is 'usually harmless' and picking the focus 'American Internationalism' gives a weekly pp and stability penalty?
 
From the perspective of 'god I would never want to live there, it'd be my own too, though not much I can link. More specifically it was a EU3-Victoria 2 conversion game as the Huron I did an AAR on. Needless to say the history went flying off the rails so hard it broke reality.

It ended up with the United Kingdoms of Wales, Scotland, and Northumberland vs the Kingdom of England and Ireland in a forever war that left the isles with a total population of less than 2 million. Scandinavia had a new government every month due to constant rebellions. The Huron controlled all of North and South America, as well as most of Africa and ruled it with an iron communistic fist that resulted in the deaths of tens of millions, and a war with China saw somewhere in the realms of 230 million dead Chinese before it came to an end. Possibly the worst place to live ever. That and the history was obviously buggered to.
 
The Biden Years, a collaborative TL. It started off innocuously enough, but quickly became a mess as everyone tried to top each other in making things as dystopian as possible.
