Wouldn't a high morality rate make the virus ironically less likely to be a pandemic?

I thought "mortality" meant "sure to kill you". I don't think it references how fast it kills. I mean, a virus with long incubation periods can still be incredibly lethal yet still spreads fast.

In English it sounds like a parody of itself, too on the nose for a tyrannical government trying too hard to sound benevolent. But lots of high-minded political concepts have a similar sort of ring to them in Japanese, the intended vibe doesn't translate.
I suppose I should toss Jan 6 ATLs in general into the cringe pile; if only because bitter, bitter hindsight would lean towards the writers being charmingly naive as to the political will/spine/enlightened self-interest a 'bloodier but still failed' Jan 6 might inject into the duopoly

I mean honestly I think it depends. The ones where basically everyone gets killed? Yeah I can see that making the surviving party leaders go "oh shit" finally. If it's just a few dead yeah I agree with ya. Personally I find them cringe in the sense that I don't see the rioters turning on most of the Republicans like they normally do in those TLs. I've always thought that if things did go wrong that they'd have gone after the Dems mainly and the more vocal anti-Trump Republicans. Also things tend to go back to normal outside clamping down on MAGA way to easily in them. I mean the US gov just got hit with basically a lighter version of a decapitation strike in them. It should be years before things get working back to normal internally.
