BTW, why are we rolling for character relations?
That's another thing written in the manual as what you need to disperse 12 points on.

Sure thing. Just somebody should give me an abreviated summation on the game mechanics.
I fill in what I know for now:

Magical (Code)name: CURE ALCOHOLISM
Name: Yang Wen-li
Occupation: History Teacher
Age: 33

What kind of girl are you?
I AM A MAN

What convinced you to make the pact? What was your wish?
I was too drunk to remember...

Magical Element: Alcohol
Magical Weapon: Wine Bottles (or anything made to contain beverages, really)

Costume:

I look like a pirate even though it has nothing to do with magical girls. But hey, the hook hand is a multi-functional beer/can opener so it's all cool!
I like this, and I highly recommend you send a PM to @TehChron. He has, um, let's call them "instructions" on what to do with you.
I have no clue what half of those are. Gonna finish reading the manual first.
Everyone should give the manual a quick blitz. Seriously. This is important.
I meant, it seems like an awful lot of people are getting high offensive abilities from what should be a random generator.
Yeah, suspicious isn't it?

@Murderhobo of Nod, what do you think? Should we leave it to the birds? Or is it time to discuss this with the rest of the flock?
True D66 has a much different probability field compared to throwing D6x10+D6
So I don't recommend anyone to use actual D66 in this game.
I am saying this when I am barely through the 10th page of the manual, though.
All double-digit stats that aren't a result of a natural boost from the Tier List or aren't approved by one of your GM overlords must be a result of a roll of two 6-sided dice. The first dice determines the tens digit while the second determines the ones. So, for example, if you roll two 6-sided dice when determining a stat or result and the numbers that come out are "5" and "3", then your total is "53".

The rulebook linked at the start has relevant charts on what to do depending on your result. This is something that everyone would know if they just read the manual. Seriously. It's really short. Most of the charts aren't even relevant at this stage in the game -- it's not really the eighty pages it claims to be. It's like forty pages and a fuckton of fluff.
Soo anyone who has good plots between our characters or do I need to go full Madame Web to annoy you all and have a part in the stories?
I recommend taking some initiative on your part, or going forth and working with others. Whether you can or can't, don't worry. I've got you covered.
And @Crow, given who you are, and who my character is at least in part inspired by, we will inevitably meet up at some point, and the scene will write itself.
Oh. Well, that problem fixed itself. Okay.
Yang Wen-li is a history teacher in a Tenkawa High. He has a degree in military history but being a high school teacher is easier and the job pays well enough. Occasionally he dreams about being this Magician dude leading tens of thousands of spaceships while complaining he's never allowed to retire. Yang Wen-li is glad for this being only a dream.
I see that you're already embracing the idea of sending a PM to @TehChron. Maybe you two should do that.
Perfect

By the way, what was with all the stat rerolling anyway? Is that even a thing?

Because I wanna try rerolling my char
Ars is allowing you to either reroll your stats on Invisible Castle and keep whatever you get or take 30 points to distribute among your stats for whatever build you want. However, rolling has you keep whatever you get and neither you or other player's can change that but putting the points in yourself means others can complain to us about unfair builds.
This.
BTW, how would this talent sound? What are its costs?
Depends on the talent, depends on the costs.
...so, if Setsuna got portal'd in from somewhere else, most of the people she knew wouldn't be around...
Congratulations o3o, you have no social life in a game where having one might be the difference between going insane or being a hero of justice. Truly, you are the savior we deserve and never asked for. :V
??
Normals go from 2 to 7
Magicals go from 3 to 9

You get 14 normal points and 18 magical points
That's 32 points total.
How's 30 points even remotely fair especially if the new high for normals is 6 total points higher?
That's a really good point. In faact, that's a super good point. Everyone? I'm changing it to 32 instead of 30, because this guy? He gets it.
Why is it so goddamn hard to find anime pictures that aren't creepy as fuck
JAPAN.
Except they still do.

Also, if you have a problem worth it, just ask @Ars Poetica if he'll change it.
Seeing as how I'm here and just changed some things that didn't work, this is objectively true.

Largely to prevent people from having the exact same kinds of friends and to increase the chances of having a wider, bigger cast. Each Magical Girl will be the protagonist of their own story, as they are wont to do in any RPG, so having it randomized increases the odds of having a more diverse social life... you know, instead of everyone having the same "wise Grandpa" or "quirky best friend" or something like that.
There's a chart for random stock characters. Fangirls, overprotective siblings, etc.
It's just to choose stock characters and names for them from the table.
What these two smart people just said.

...I think I've addressed all the major issues for now. Still waiting for one or more people to write up the rough draft of their first Episode. Can't set up an IC thread until that's covered.

So far as I've been able to gather...

Charm, for relationships and forming them.

Insight, for seeing through people/figuring things out.

Tenacity/Determination, for resisting mind control and similar things.
For talking to other people. Probably the hardest part of the RP.

E: what Fish said.
Okay, then pretty much as the manual states.

There's a chart for random stock characters. Fangirls, overprotective siblings, etc.
So nothing important on my end, then.
It's just to choose stock characters and names for them from the table.
I have a few fun ideas for my character relations.
BTW, can I have an entire class as my relation? I treat them as Yang's overall reputation to that class as its teacher and say it couldn't get higher than 3 (it starts at 1-2).

Another is a certain germanic aristocrat who dreams of an empire and has a friendly rivalry with Yang for a reason my character doesn't have the faintest idea why.
(No bonus points for guessing his name. BTW, it starts with R.)

Congratulations o3o, you have no social life in a game where having one might be the difference between going insane or being a hero of justice. Truly, you are the savior we deserve and never asked for. :V
...Can I reroll my crisis? :V

Or like... have an aunt or something that happened to live in the city? An old friend that moved away?
Shiro3o got Prevail. His dice grow ever closer to TehChron's. :V
Pfft
Heroic last stands are a Shounen staple.

Considering he's a school teacher, it's entirely possible for one or more of the Player Characters to be his student(s).
I meant treating said class as if it were a single character.
Say, it's his work relations.
That's why it can't be maxed out to 4 but only to 3. And it starts lower than that (either 1 or 2).
A high school class can have 20-30+ students thus having them all listed would be a problem. Besides the point is not him having anything special to these students but how well he's accepted by the class as a whole.

Which one? Having a relative, or re-rolling?
Yes.

If that's what you're planning, then you really would be better off just making those relations with other Magical Girls that end up in your class. Otherwise, what's the point? Hell, in a class of thirty, it becomes possible for the friends of other Player Characters to be in the same class as the one that you're teaching.

Cramming everyone into one room makes things easier for us GMs, it makes things easier for social interactions among the Player Characters, and it makes things easier for you... but it does mount a lot of pressure on you as a pirate-outfit-wearing homeroom teacher of class A-1.

Are you ready for the mounting pressure of being a homeroom teacher to a large group of Magical Girls and their friends?

I think you're ready for it~

Professor Yang and his endless quotes of wisdom are ready for the challenge!

I think that this is a brilliant plan and that absolutely nothing could go wrong with it.

Let's do it.

BTW, can anyone give me examples how normal attributes are used in social situations?
Sure you roll 2D6 + your stat but against what DC?
Would you usually need 13+ results to be positive or is there a silver lining?

Opposed and Unopposed Challenges
An "opposed" challenge is when the rules call for two characters to make rolls against each other. For example, you might make a Charm vs. Tenacity challenge, meaning you make a Charm challenge and the other person makes a Tenacity chal-lenge, and whoever gets the higher Result wins. Break ties first by whoever has the higher base attribute, then by rolling an extra die.
In an unopposed challenge you're just making a challenge and seeing if you got a high enough Result. Moves that use an unopposed challenge will list off what effect you get from a given result. If the move doesn't list anything that happens for the Result you got, then nothing happens, at least not from the move itself.

Edit: Rolled for new given name

I've been trying to work on my character's backstory and I'm honestly really hitting a wall trying to come up with something that fits what I rolled, but isn't super edgey/makes it impossible to be anything other than antagonistic...

The basic idea I've been tossing around in my head is that she's experienced some sort of trauma in her life (Orphaned, abuse, something like that). Because of her past she's come to believe that the world is a cruel and unfair place, one where justice doesn't exist, so she takes it upon herself to become a magical girl and fight what she views as the injustices of the world. Despite her efforts to fight injustice she still can't help but harbor resentment for how cruel the world seems and deep in her heart she wishes that it would just come to an end. When she begins having her visions of the world destroying Youma she is finally presented with the means of fulfilling this desire and begins collecting Oblivion seeds to try and summon the Youma.

Does that work as a character? Personally I would want her to start out planning to try and destroy the world, but gradually begin to change her mind as she bonds with some of the other girls In the city. Anyways, I would really appreciate some advice or recommendations on how to make this character work.
