Warhammer Fantasy: The Hollow Crown- A Border Princes Quest

I don't believe coalitiions are possible in the Border Princes, everyone is always scheming against everyone else, same as in Tilea
They're possible when there's an imminent threat to everyone's life in the area like a Chaos sorcerer but don't be surprised when there's backstabbing involved or that the only reason it's possible is because we took charisma as our starting talent.

It's easier to just conquer our way across the Border Princes.

Personally, I want to not only Conquer the Border Princes, but expand into Tilea as well.

This wasn't about conquest the formation of a coalition was about assembling forces to oppose the Chaos sorcerer, and the Norscans before I decided that giving the former any more time to prepare whatever it is they're doing in that town would be a horrible idea.

And, it's easier to be a conqueror if you know when to use diplomacy and intrigue I'd point out.

sure you can do that I'll add it to the options

while attracting a necromancer into your retinue is certainly something that you could work towards considering that necromancy is illegal and beyond the pale even in the typical border principality finding a necromancer enough competent to do such a thing and getting him to come to your princedom is a task that would take more time than you have available before the wight arrives
Ah, makes sense. Although I do think getting a necromancer or two could really help us long term, the undead are great at stuff like mining and factory work, and would free up alot of our (eventual) population for other jobs

With such a large population free from menial labour, we could really get some investment rolling in the sciences (both military and non military) and the arts, who knows, we could become a haven of culture and learning!

We definitely need more economy as soon as we beat these Norscans into the ground.

@JuliusNepos might I ask which ore our lead comes from?

Lead isn't found naturally on it's own. Most commonly it's found as part of Galena Ore, which is an ore that has both Lead and Silver in it.

[X] Plan Prove our Might
-[X] Find Crargig Facegouga
-[X] Hire more mercenaries
-[X] Collect donations from the pilgrims

Get more soldiers. We've got to prove our might to the border princes first. So find this orc character and get some competents to go along with the large untrained force we have. It's only fair we take some donations, we're using it for hiring mercenaries to protect the temple.

[X] Try and get some undead fighting experts/heros/useful idiots to save you

Surely our irresistible charisma will draw them in.

We don't have the money for more mercenaries and honestly, we're straining the economy with what we have already.

We should focus on training up what we already have. Otherwise, we're just going to be throwing trash at the Norscans

Unless the action fails, but mercenaries succeeds, in which case we have a bunch of highly trained people we can't pay versus a green as grass army that can't fight
Donations seems like it should have a low DC.
Since there is an element of luck, I'll modify my plan to this:

[X] Plan Prepare to prove our might
-[X] Investigating the nearby Princes
-[X] Drill your new troops with what remains of your old
-[X] Collect donations from the pilgrims

Note that plan Kitchen sink has us hiring an assassin/spy with no money component to compensate.

My plan is to hire mercenaries the next round (if the donation roll goes well) and then strike (either for the orc or at one of the princes). This is more of a batting down hatches vote.

[X] Try and get some undead fighting experts/heros/useful idiots to save you

Still think we should play to our strengths and try get someone to help us (instead of doing it ourselves)

1 guy is cheaper than hundreds of guys.

As to hiring people to fight the wight for us, I'm pretty sure this is part of the Destiny thing we chose at game start. Accordingly, I don't think other people are going to solve the problem for us. They might help, but we're probably going to wind up 1 on 1 with it at some point anyway.

A very subjective opinion. Spies and assassins are very expensive (especially in an area full of strife like the Border). Can't really tell without the numbers, but the magnitudes could match up.

Not more expensive than an army.

We're not just talking pay for experienced fighting men, we're talking pay for feeding them, munitions, billeting, fodder for horses, the works.

Surely most of that comes from the dues we get as a lord (except the munitions)? And we've got the loyalty to lean on. Anyway, It's irrelevant now.

My plan's got a way to improve our position (economically). Plan kitchen sink doesn't.

[X] A census of Akendorf.
[X] Attracting Culture.
[X] Localize the Law Code.

[X] Prepare your soldiers for the frightening visage of the dead.

No? Mercenaries don't owe us fealty, that's why they're mercenaries.

If you're talking about supplies, even if we requisition them, they still cost us in manpower and time that could otherwise be going to our regular economy.

And we don't need to improve economically right away, we need military stuff right away, as the QM hinted.

An assassin/spy and using our already contracted mercenaries to train our green as shit levied army is the most cost effective thing we could do right now.

As to the Wizard, we need one to counter the Noorscan Sorcerer. Without one, we'll just be hellfire fodder.

[X] Plan The Kitchen Sink
- [X] Attract a wizard from the Empire
- [X] Try and hire a spy/assassin
- [X] Drill your new troops with what remains of your old

[X] Train for the duel of your life

We can't pawn off the undead and we need to be able to deal with that sorcerer so we don't lose our fief. That being said we need to do economy soon before we can't sustain ourselves. However no point in investing in an economy we can't defend.

Operation Use Iancu
[x] Acquire a copy of "The Border Prince"
[x] just hang out with your brother for a bit
[x] Drill your new troops with what remains of your old

[x] Try and get some undead fighting experts/heros/useful idiots to save you

Times are hard and we always knew that they would be however there is always one person that we can rely upon even more than ourselves, our brother Iancu. He suggested earlier to get the Border Prince maybe it is time to read the manual of this quest. He is always a sound voice of ideas it is time to lean on him.

Believe in Iancu as much as he believes in us.
