ARTIFACT (*****) - THE LENS LANCE
DESCRIPTION: Forged in a heartbeat, lurking within the machine for ten thousand years, the fury and spirit of a barely tamed gravitic imploder lance - long mistaken for and used as an agrav system aboard an orbital habitat - has been once more aroused to the glory of battle. Though her functions are as of yet locked behind codewalls and mystery, she remains a terrifying weapon in the hands of a skilled warrior. Her legend will burn across the galaxy.

FAMILIAR (**) - GITTA, THE EVER LOYAL
DESCRIPTION: They say the Kriegers pour their hearts into their horses - but beyond their world, none know their mounts as anything but numbers on an Administratum file. Gitta will change that. Ia! Ia! Praise her! Praise Sainted Gitta, The Ever Loyal! Ia! Ia!

TEMPERED BY THE ELEMENTS (**) - DAUGHTER OF VATS, BORN OF WAR
DESCRIPTION: Though fading into seeming insignificance in the glorious dawn of a new age, the first Twilight to walk the galaxy since the fading of the Age of Sorrows was inured to the chaos of a modern battlefield, moving across it as swiftly as open ground.

SELECTIVE CONCEPTION (*) - SUBDERMAL IMPLANT IN THE THIGH
DESCRIPTION: ...this is actually just standard issue for Imperial Guardsmen from any world with a Magos Biologis on it.

LANGUAGES (*)
DESCRIPTION: You can speak the ancient tongue of The Old Realm!

INTIMACIES

Defining: The Galaxy is a Body, I will Heal it (Positive)
Major: Kit (Confused Attraction), Chaos (Hatred), Gitta (Love)
Minor: Technology (fascination), Xenos (Fear)

CHARMS

IN SUMMATION: Genuis flows, unabated, through the mind of the First Twilight. She is able to hold multiple projects in mind at once, easier than any mortal, while also shifting her focuses - despite not being trained in the crafting of explosives or metallurgy, she could shift her ability to create medical chemicals into that with some effort. She is able to inspire herself to construct even mighty artifacts swifter than any mortal, so long as she crafts projects that aid and help her allies and friends. She can complete mundane and even complex tasks - building a rifle, a suit of armor, or a small vehicle - in literal seconds using nothing but the raw materials and her bare hands. Raw excellence overflows in all her favored and caste abilities, bolstering their dicepools if required.

[X] LINE OF OBLITERATION SHAFT - by channeling the gravitic powers along the lance itself, it can create a massive area of effect. It won't kill, but it will knock greater enemies over and render lesser enemies incapacitated en mass.

MOTHERFUCKER WHAT

I saw these so close to each other I thought it was a throw away joke but holy shit!!! Exalted in 40K by one of my favorite, most reliable authors!!! Fuck this sounds too good to be true!!!

Also it occurs to me that, due to the Krieger anonymity thing, our story might have to be written as the legend of Gitta + rider.

No worries, those of us that knew because a certain author had gushed about this crazy idea in private before were impressed with how you picked up on it. Just couldn't say anything lest we possibly spoil the surprise.

That's swell of you :)

I'm not always a big fan of DragonCobolt's stuff, but when I like them, I like them!

40K + QT Protagonist + Exalted + BLESSED BE THIS MACHINE = True Wonder though.

What's a QT protagonist?

Say the letters out loud.

Now, I'm not admittedly a subscriber in the Giant Booba perspective with regards to Appearance 5 (In fact, some of the interpretations I've seen are nothing short of hideous), but I don't imagine a Krieger would have such unneccessarily exaggerated traits. Are we looking at basically the Mona Lisa "Aesthetic Ideal" because some gene-engineer decided to get fancy with a project that likely wouldn't see the light of day because the Krieger Self-Hatred is too strong? Or are you keeping our heroine's features aside from being a redhead obscure for now?

Well obviously she has to be gorgeous under the mask, for the big romantic mask removal and first kiss scene duh

OF COURSE

My only demand is that the relationship be cute and fuzzy, not depressing. I get enough depression in reality, and the fact this is all still taking place in 40K means depression is just, you know, a fact enforced by the laws of the universe.

Appearance 5?

is there a list somewhere?

(Gestures to the Threadmark that goes full Cultspeech)
Oh, appearance 5 as a stat, not appearance 1 out of 5.

I suppose the Krieger's might have decided to do the simultaneously contradictory thing of wanting every soldier to look if they came from the propaganda poster, and then dressed them in identical gas suits.

Either that or the gas suits mean Krieg attracts the unconventional Biologis Magos. The ones who just want to mess around with genetics, without being shamed by the other Magos's for not putting enough metal in. Uniform outfits allow for a bunch of personal discretion in the operation of the vats, even if no one ever sees it.

The latter's what I figured, yeah.

Also, gonna be putting your essence, anima level, and other continually updated stats in each update. Fortunately, E3 has added in that you regain 5 motes per round in combat, so you don't constantly run out of Do Cool Shit Juice.

The Masses, the Madness (1.3)
The Chaos Space Marine lord's tongue blinked again and retracted. He spoke, in a shockingly calm voice. "Kharkameron, please remove us from this unsightly situation."

"Very good, my lord," the marine in blue and gold said, reaching into a belt pouch, drawing out some small, complex device - ah, a teleport beacon, so, it wasn't some kind of sorcery he was going to use. What a relief. Though, you knew deep in your gut that teleportation from place to place was supposedly impossible. They must have cracked it somehow. You'd have to study that.

...wait, how did you know any of that?

"My valiant soldier, glory be to the first to die against this hated imperial, she is after all only one woman, surely, you can defeat them etcetera, etcetera..." Lord Carthenexias said, waving one of his gauntleted hands to the masses of men who were still gaping at you.

The marine in blue and gold made a gesture and a crackling bolt of lighting slammed down into the lot of them, filling the air with the smell of ozone and a flash of smeary purple burning along your eyes. You shook your head, then grabbed onto your helmet.

Why cover yourself?

The thought was an alien one, impressed into your head, an instinct from some other life. It was like there were two yous right now, both of them laid one over the other. A whispering voice full of mathematic outlines and technosavantry and faint whiffs of memory. Of gold and silver, steel and adamant. Softness. Light. Strength. Fire. Blood. Then there was...you. Just...41-22. You shoved your hair under your helmet, locked it in, strapped down, then grabbed your Lens Lance from where it had hovered in the air beside you, patient and ready as Gitta.

There were, hmm, two companies of people here? Nearly five hundred...six hundred enemies?

You should have been terrified at the number of guns aimed your way.

"Open fire! Kill! Kill for the blood god!" a man screamed.

With a crackling roar of snapping air and burning metal, lasbolts exploded out.

Of course, you weren't where they had been aiming at. You exploded to the left, legs sending you surging in a leap that seemed to carry you all the way to the retreating band. You landed on the shoulders of the singer, who squalled. "Hey!" She yelped, then screamed as you jumped off her, sending her smashing into the metal deck. You flipped, landed, and then turned back, to see that the masses of men were running out into cover in every direction, firing and moving in a wild, chaotic sprawl. More than a few men were being shot in the back by their own friends. Hurm. Bad drill.

You noticed your sleeve was on fire and patted it out absently.

"Lets see...don't have the full power array of a maximalized plasma engine," you muttered. "Still, if I think...kinetic energy, mass, ummmm, yes!"

You adjusted your grip. The Lens Lance hummed and shimmered. A distortion in the air ahead of the lance and behind it stretched outwards, extending the weapon into a quarterstaff that was as easy to handle as a spear, but as long as ten meters of rope. You grinned, then sprinted forward, twirling the lance and bringing it down. The distortion rippled, whipped, and-

BOOM!

An explosion of mud and screaming men went flying outwards as gravity implosion sucked a squad inwards, then flung them outwards. Their rifles and bodies clattered into the ground, smoke rising from the perfectly half-circle crater you'd left in the ground. You sprang on a sergeant midway through putting on his bayonet, kicking his chest and sending him flipping backwards into a vox-tech, who was screaming. "We need artillery!" The vox shattered as you turned and thrust - and a crescent shaped wave of gravitational force whipped outwards and scooped up nearly fifty men. You gripped, twisted, then spun the lance along the central axis, spinning between your gloved palms like you were trying to start a fire with friction.

The crescent shifted, shaped, and turned into an orb of rippling distortion, holding - hmm, one two, ten, thirty... - fifty two men in a screaming, tumbling mass, their bodies spinning in free-fall, their weapons bouncing around within the distortion. You brought your lance up, then smashed down and the fifty men dropped onto the other half of their formation. Bones snapped and cries were cut shot - and the survivors either laid prone and groaned or sprinted for the hills.

There were still nearly a hundred men. You turned to them.

Fear in their eyes. Uncertainty.

"F-For the blood god!" one of them shouted.

That was a lot of lasguns. You had to admit, you were still rather fond of them. Logistically ingenious, better than gunpowder. You thrust the Lens Lance into the muck ahead of you. Gravitation flung up a wall of mud that filled the air between you and them. Glowing red light refracted as the mud sizzled, and the mass fire managed to warm it to something close to something used in la sauna.

You leaped through the mud, slashing with the lance to carve a clean path through. The men, midway through their charge cycle, gaped.

You landed on their leader, the man who had called out.

Your lance slammed into his chest, the tip penetrating between his lungs.

You remained there, poised, feet planted onto his belly, his back arched, your spear thrust out of him.

Your finger touched one button.

Red.

You dropped as the mist that had been a man wafted around you in slow motion. Red coated your lenses and when you swept your lance down to hold it to your side, it carved glittering crimson in the air.

"...yours first," you said, quietly.

You heard screams and pounding feet.

Then you wiped the blood off your eyeholes.

Round the bloody ruin of a man, you saw nothing but wreckage, discarded instruments, dropped rifles, and a single fluttering standard - blasphemous and hideous. The light flaring inside of you seemed to dim and you felt unaccountably weary. The adrenaline drop was fierce and sharp...but...

Gitta came around the corner. She didn't hesitate. She simply cantered up to your side and bumped her head against your shoulder.

You smiled, slightly behind your mask. The weariness was fading away as fast as it had come - but the questions were coming fast and bubbling, like something had broken inside of you. How had you...done that? What had happened? This wasn't possible. It was a miracle? It-

Memory.

You clung to Gitta, clung to her, as the searing flashback swept through-

Golden lights dappled on the wall tree out the window, thrumming sounds, angry voices.

"-the collapse is imminent. The modeling projections show that-"

"Damn her! Damn her! Damn her!"

"-Chiaroscuro has been obliterated by a-"

"Realm defense grid is down, they-"

Final plan only plan have to do it have to only do it do it do it The Shadow of All Things is-

You gasped and came back to yourself, trembling from your head to your toes. Gitta remained a stolid weight you could lean on, her bulk heavy and warm. Under your coat, you were covered in a thick, cold fear sweat. The details remained hazy, but you remembered a time when the world was ending. The world? Surely, some world. There were more than one, after all. Many planets. You wracked your brain, trying to remember Chiaroscuro, but couldn't remember anything...anything save...glittering glass, spires. Towers. Your eyes closed and you groaned. "I need a chaplain..." you muttered against Gitta's flank.

A world had been dying. There had been a desperate plan, to stave it off. Then there had been...a glorious golden light. You closed your eyes harder.

Every point, a sun. A moon. A star. They flew together, at the world's ending, at the dying of an Age. They formed into...into...

No.

Into-

No! No! No! No! You clung to Gitta, trying to push the memories and the thoughts away, moaning. "No!" You slid down her flank, to your knees, then to your side in the muck and blood. Gitta dipped her head, confused, wishing to help, wanting to help you. "No! No!" You clutched at your head.

The suns, the moons, the stars! They flew together and there He was. Him. On Earth. On Terra. Him! Him! Him! You! Him! You! Him! You!

Your stomach wrenched. You wanted to throw up.

You were Krieg. Unclean. Unworthy. You could only die to become good enough, to be good enough. That was the only way. But-

You! HIm!

The knowledge burned in your head as you clutched at your hooded ears, shaking your head. "No..." you hissed. The knowledge...no, the lies, the absolute lies, started to fade. You pushed them down, cramming the memories of the glowing figure - the lesser figure, the hobbled survivor of a final Age, the desperate last bid for survival - out of your mind. It was a lie. It had to be. The Emperor was divine, he was singular! He was unique and perfect, and you were Krieg! Krieg, damn it!

You closed your eyes...and relaxed, slowly.

The lies were gone.

"D-Demon trick," you whispered. "S-Some..." you sat up, looking around.

The demon that must have tried to...to worm into your brain. You didn't see them. You only saw the scarred battlefield, the wan sky, the distant smoke. And Gitta.

You gulped, then stood, shakily. "I-I'm all right," you whispered to Gitta.

She made a very horsy, very skeptical noise. Her ear twitched.

"I am!" you said, hurriedly.

Gitta bumped her head against your shoulder.

...you had to...decide what to do next. You had no command structure, no sergeant. Nothing. You looked around - and saw that there was still the Word Bearer starship - though it seemed not so impossible a challenge now. Hmm.

STATS
Health: Fine
Anima: None
Personal Motes: 13/13 | Peripheral Motes: 28/28
Major Projects: 0/5
SXP: 0 | GXP: 5 | WXP: 0

Here's how crafting works!

There's four levels of projects: minor, major, superior and legendary

Minor is cooking dinner, making some arrows, mending some clothes, repairing armor, jerry rigging a basic gizmo
Major is building a lasgun, flak vest, or similar level of moderate imperial technology
superior is building bolters, power swords, force swords, shields, agrav and similarly advanced technology (or a very large building)
Legendary is making voidships or major examples of insanely powerful hypertech, Dark Ages style.

It costs nothing to make a minor project. However, if you want to make a bigger project, you need inspiration! This is represented by silver, gold and white XP! Minor projects make SXP, and it costs 10 SXP to craft a major project, which makes GXP, and 10 GXP makes superior projects, and then superior projects make WXP, which are used to make legendary projects.

Now, as a note, the amount of XP you get is based on if you fulfill three objectives.

Those are...

1) Does this project strengthen an intimacy towards you in another character (by either pleasing them or pissing them off)
2) Does it produce a clear in game benefit to you?
3) Does it further one of your intimacies?

For each yes, you get more XP. If you get all 3, you get a bonus too!

So, no! You can't just sit in a cave making pencils to farm XP. That doesn't improve any intimacies, and it doesn't actually benefit you. Even fi you sell the pencils, like, eventually there's gonna be too many pencils and the market drops out, no more SXP for you.

Lord Carthexias exeunts with his surviving space marines, sending the two mobs after 41-22. You roll a Int+Lore check vs diff 1 and get 2s, recognizing the teleport bacon.

Said mobs are

SIZE 3, POOR DRILL, MIGHT 0
MAGNITUDE 10

They roll into battle with 4 ini and 6 ini, versus our heroine - whose spent all her ini in her decisive attack. This resets her to 3, meaning the mobs go first!

They open fire en mass!

They get 3s and 6s versus her dodge of 4 - so one miss, and one only hitting by 2 for a total of 14 dice of damage, which is dropped to 5 by her soak. She takes 2 initiative damage, bringing her to a perilous 1...but not QUITE CRASHED!
So, then she stunts, and thwacks the 6 ini mob for 5s! That hits by 3, and doing 20 damage, reduced to 14 by their soak: She rolls 7 damage, crashing them and bumping her to 8+5 for a total of 13. So, she goes *again* next round, before them and she's gonna bash them again! 5s to hit again, so her 14 dice do another 7 ini damage. This bumps her to 20 ini and, more importantly, completely wrecks their Magnitude, dropping them to Size 2 and forcing them to make a ROUT CHECK!

They have 3 willpower and poor drill. Their rout check is a 1d. And they've been attacked by AOE sorcery, which applies a -1d to their rout check. They break and run. Since their allies are running, the other mob makes a Rout Check at a +1d penalty (for having taken no casualties) and manages to succed! So, they keep firing and get 4s - meeting her dodge precisely. She will stunt to evade!

Then she'll use her massive 20 initiative on a decisive attack! She gets 12s to hit, but since this is a decisive attack, extra accuracy doesn't add to damage (not without charms.) However, since she's using 20 ini, that means she does 1 automatic damage per 4 dice! So, she does 5+Rolled Successes magnitude damage, swell! That's a total of 16 magnitude damage, which drops them down to Size 3 and less than half their magnitude! They fail their rout check.

This one appeals to me the most. And finding folk to help seems important mechanically.

Though, you knew deep in your gut that teleportation from place to place was supposedly impossible.
I think the secret was cracked, but it involved some major infrastructure, rather than point-to-point theliongatesthetombtravelwithiutdistance
And then there's some stuff Abyssals or Getimians( glitchy gremlins) can do.

But it sounds like we might not know about those at all.
Very interesting that this specific term is used…

[X] to the aid station - to see who can be saved, or failing that, who can be punished

I have a hunch that's where 55 is, and right now 55 seems our best bet for answers
