Valkyria Chronicles: Drums of War

To be clear, QM has never found a pistol he liked shooting at all. I have tried a few, and they just feel awkward to use at best.

I will see about fixing the resources in reserve issue when I am done doing the things that need to be done for today.

Pistols aren't garbage, they're just 'handy backup weapon' rather than 'main soldier tool'.

That said, no, the USV does not at this time need to prioritize a rifle project over anything else. We already have a carbine and armour on the docket, and should get started on that first.

I am, however, in favour of putting some dice on army growth planning and some logistics exercises, as well as finally getting started on a TBD design. We shouldn't be trying to get the naval gun production expansion and gun trials done first, because I know this player base, we will endlessly delay in search of the best possible upgrades, while our navy rots at the dock due to needing upgrades and maintenance right the fuck now, not in a forever 'next Plan' promise.

We can get the benefits of such efforts next time. One builds with the technology one has right now.

Angel Raising Mini-Quest (Chapter 1) New
Angel Raising Mini-Quest

You are Helena Eulenburg. Ex-child spiritualist, author, mystic, prophetess, socialite, thrice-wed, Once Divorced, owner of a large modern house in a fashionable neighborhood of good repute, and plenty of wise investments to keep you in good living for the rest of your life. You have made a life upon the stage, touring, and leading the people of Vinland, spiritually, into the future. You're also closer to 50 than 40 and have been rejected soundly by your adult children. Richard resents you remarrying quickly after his father's death and blames you for his limited access to the fortune, Thomas is sadly a profligate scoundral, and Hernietta is...well, you've agreed to disagree. She keeps her mouth shut, and certain letters will not be published by your lawyer. You even pay for her college education.

Asleep beside you on the chaise-lounge is your newly adopted daughter, your heiress. It is a bit of a whirlwind-catching sight of the girl at a crowded lecture hall on the edge of Daylit and the Aegis, calling her forward. Then discovering what a glistening gem there was there-a diamond in the land of lumberjacks and lost runestones, with blond hair and green eyes. You inquired about her parrents, and found that she was the bastard of a dead milkmaid and a clergyman It took some doing, and some money, but now she's here with you, secure in a place where she can be loved and cared for as she ought to be, not sleep in a rude barracks with seven other girls. She has her own room, your extensive library (she fell asleep clutching a famous novel), and all the advantages in life you can heap upon this chosen one.

The only question now is, how do you bring her up into the role that her destiny holds for her?
Age: 11

Diplomacy: Low??
Martial: Low??
Stewardship: Middling??
Intrigue: Very low??
Learning: Average?
Prowess: Very Low??

Traits: Cute? Gifted? Curious?

Education: Pick one option for how to educate her. Education has a chance to increase all atributes, but Learning more especially.
-Send Angelika to Public School: Absolutely not, there are standards to uphold.
- Send Angelika to Private School: There is a very fine girl's school not far from your home, which you could send Angelika directly to. Socializing with other girls of her age may be to here benefit, or she may be bullied for her unusual conditions and appearance. (Increased Diplomacy gain odds)
- Tutor Angelika at home: Angelika is a delicate, sensitive soul who cannot be risked in the outside world. Hire the best tutors obviously, but she will not attend a school with other children. (Increased Intrigue gain odds)

Allowance: Pick one option for how much money you give her.
- 1 dollar a month. Enough for some daily penny candy. Emphasis on 'some' and 'penny'.
- 3 dollars a month. A Dime A Day, more or less, enough for her to save some up.
- 5 dollars a month. A trip to the amusement park on weekends.
- 10 dollars a month. Plenty of money, more than enough for weekend trips to the store to buy her own toys and clothes.
- 20 dollars a month. Not more than most children her age who work earn. But getting close.

Medical: Pick one Option for the girl's health- the healing power of Ragnite is obvious and it's importance to the Valkyrur tautological, but what should be done for it?
Angelika's health is: FINE

- None: But why take the risk of this?
- Ragnite Crystals: Fill the girl's room with wholesome crystals of Ragnite, that the glow will purify her body and awaken her powers.
- Ragnite Tonics: While there are a number of warnings and controversies in the papers, you feel you know trustworthy pharmacists.
- Ragnite Inoculation: Injecting small doses of ragnite regularly into the girl's body is more direct than drinking tonics containing the mineral, perhaps the effect will be greater?
- Ragnite Transfusion: Experimental medical procedures in blood transfusion tantalize with the possibilities. What if you can transfer blood-and more-between yourself and your heir? (DANGEROUS)

Family:
Pick one or two options here, that don't contraction with each other. If you pick both, there will be a slight penalty to rolls.
- Keep up the Facade: Your family situation is complex, but you can isolate your pure heiress from the chatter and the drama of your family life
- Introduce Angelika to your Children: Your two sons and daughter by your first two husbands aren't exactly eager to move back home but they will be mad about this adoption. Make it clear that their inheritance is fine-that should defuse the situation. (4 rolls to determine your children's reaction)
- Introduce Angelika to your Beloved: You might have three ex-husbands, but the great love of your life is Emilie Nilsen. You don't quite know how this will go, but hiding her from your child you mean to leave your life's work to makes your heart ache. Hopefully, by Yule the three of you can reach an accord. (1 roll to determine if Angelika and Emilie bond)

Religion: Pick one- for now.
- Indoctrinate: The Freyan Church has many divergences from mainline Yggdist teachings, and Angelika is ignorant of them. Educating her in holy matters is a high priority, to avoid any sort of disruption or shock reaction.
- Induct: While Angelika is unaware, she is also eager to learn, and you can bring her to your ordinary sort of meetings. This shouldn't cause too much of a stir among the public members, you hope.
- Initiate: Normally, you take the time to weigh a member of the church's character before showing the true power and glory of the ancients, but perhaps it would be helpful for Angelika to see directly what you are about.
- Ordain: You are the High Priestess of the Freyan Church, as your regalia makes clear in closed meetings, but there is no reason there cannot be a second high priestess. Angelika is too young for some duties but this will make clear her position- only just below you.
- Beatify: The True Heiress of True Blood is already holy. She is pure and beautiful and kind to the unworthy. While she is not ready to lead the church, she can serve as an object of veneration and a lesson to your followers. Even you will bow to her.

Activities: Pick up to 5, each of which can increase a stat or cause a new trait to be gained.
- Acrobatics: Healthy exercise in a gymnasium may be best to improve flexibility and general condition, keeping the body fit and trim with an excellent balance.
- Ancient Texts: You fancy you know more than most men on this subject, so sit Angelika down for reading a few of your favorite books. And by books, I mean Old Northern script texts.
- Art Museum: The only art in this poor girl's life is a few prints. Take her to the art museum to learn about classical and renaissance art, and new movements as well.
- Board Games: You have a few friends who have put together this game to teach children about taxes and the evils of monopoly. Play a series of games with Angelika to educate her.
- Ciphers: Angelika can read and write, but secret messages and the like are probably not a subject she has experience with. This seems like the kind of puzzle she might enjoy.
- Chess: Angelika is intelligent, but has never played chess before. Teach her the rules, and show her a few openings.
- Dance: Angelika was raised in a strict orphanage with no music, but society is a bit more expecting of a girl to know how to waltz.
- Etiquette: Angelika is kind, and polite, but in a rather corn-pone way. Polish the orphan into an heiress, starting with her eating habits.
- Fencing: You know a knight or two who might be willing to take Angelika under their wing. The true heir of the Valkyrur must be as strong as the queens of old.
- Gardening: A caring nature and a history of growing vegetables will only take you so far with flowers. Aesthetics are as important, if not moreso than other concerns.
- Horseback Riding: Angelika has only ever ridden cows and goats on her birth mother's family farm. She really ought to learn how horses are like neither of those.
- Hospital Visit: Angelika is kind and empathetic, maybe a hospital visit will bring out her true salvific nature. Not a consumption hospital however, the disease took her first mother.
- Hunting: Stalking a deer or birds through the countryside and a sharp, accurate shot aren't exactly what you think of when you look at your heiress. But, she was raised in a rough and rural part of the country. Maybe she has skills you don't guess at?
- Mechanics: The girl asked a thousand questions about the train on the ride back east, and has waylaid you with questions about bicycles, horseless carriages, automatic wringers and a host of other machines. It's very unladylike, but perhaps you could indulge her if only to stop the yammering of questions?
- Meditation: Various breathing and focusing methods from the exotic east and older mystical traditions form the basis of your own arts and visions. Teach Angelika to look inwards for wisdom and perhaps more.
- Newspapers: Current events in the country and the world, interpreting the bias of the reporters, and how to do a crossword puzzle.
- Penny Gambling: Taking money from children can be educational for them. For one thing, she can work on that horrible poker face, and learn that gambling is dangerous for your money.
- Piano Lessons: Music is certainly a young lady's charm, but Angelika knows only hymns, and a few folky songs. Perhaps a classical musical education is in order?
- Science Museum: Angelika shows some interest in that collection of moldy animals and flint points that they call the Society of Natural History. You suppose they at least have a good exhibit on the races of man.
- Slight of Hand: Magic and Illusions are old hat to you, but sharing the art of misdirection and all the old Spiritualist tricks you know from your youth would probably shock and amaze Angelika. You can even show her how to Mesmerize someone.
- Swimming: The icy waters of the ocean off the cape aren't your favorite but learning to swim can build endurance and promote good circulation of the blood.
- Write In: As long as it is reasonably possible, anything to improve your new daughter's life and character, yes?

Private school because Angelika absolutely will need to learn how to deal with people.
5 dollars a month because frankly, being able to finance her own weekend trips is already plenty of money for the girl.
Ragnite Crystals because ragnite actually can heal.
Introducing Angelika to our beloved because, well, it'd be stupid not to.
Indoctrinate because, well, cult leader, better get started on making sure she can at least act the part.
Activities because, well, young girl being prepared for high society. The Science Museum is because she's interested in it and indulging her will make it a lot easier to convince her to do the rest.

Approval voting for:
[X] An Heir is still a child

Ragnite Crystals because ragnite actually can heal.

Not... necessary.

The description about all the methods is less about healing but more try to brute force Valkryia powers to show up.

The Crystal is the less dangerous form but... well you are filling to the brim a child's room with a raw mineral that is used as fuel and other stuff. So you know not the healthist thing around, and not to mention there must be a reason why Ragnaid gives a more weaker version of Ragnite natural healing aura.

Maybe it's not so healthy to stand close to ragnite mineral by long swats of time ironically.

Helena is literally a Valkyrie cultist. If anything, using crystals is being restrained.

Hey just because Helena is a cultist does not mean she needs to be the bad type of cultist that would endenger a child just because she want to see some laser beams.

The fact that there is a stats for Health is concern enough for me all this actions likely will do some impact to the child's health, some more than other obviously.

Besides when she grow older, you know when her body can handle this... experimentation we can try it but She still is a 11 years old.

Also, Ragnite deposits are known to heal by proximity, even if the mining process is dangerous.
And, a slightly modified plan:

[X] An Heir is still a child
-[X] Education: Send Angelika to Private School
-[X] Allowance: 5 dollars a month
-[X] Medical: Ragnite Crystals
-[X] Family: Introduce Angelika to your Beloved

Also, Ragnite deposits are known to heal by proximity, even if the mining process is dangerous.

See this healing process reminds a bit of Bioshock, more specifically the Little Sisters.

They have such a crazy regeneration that when they broke a bone, you need to constantly break said bone until it aligned itself corrently since they regeneration would mend the bones on that exactly same position. I imagine that Ragnite healing crystal healing aura has a similar effect thus why Ragnaid is less potent and why hospital are not filling with the brim with raw Ragnite.

There is also the concern that just because Ragnite has a healing aura does not mean it cannot cause disease or cause health problems because still is a raw mineral at the of day and Helena is going to fill Angelika's room with that stuff not put one or two there. So while it can physicialy heal your body, it could not do nothing say against common cold as a example.

Actually speaking of this topic we should really fund a study in the main quest to study and catalogue the effects of Ragnite and create safety guidelines when mining it.

[] Heir to the Valkyrur

I'm going to be quite honest, I think it's wildly unrealistic to imagine Helena not flooding Angelika's life with ragnite in some way, because she honestly believes this girl is an actual Valkyrur magical girl just waiting to happen. It may or may not be the optimal thing but I feel like we should at least try to roleplay the character in a way we expect to turn out not-too-badly.

Ragnite does have one substantial health complication--the stuff explodes if sufficiently perturbed.

Not sure what sort of perturbation it takes to set off Ragnite, but I wouldn't keep photographic chemicals and Ragnite in the same room.

EDIT: I'll also point out that if we're going to be a cultist parent doing cultist things, we should take Meditation as the obvious method to further the indoctrination.

[X] An Heir is still a child

I refuse to vote for any plan that doesn't indulge Angelika in her curiosity for mechanics.

I'll even make a plan that does both the activities that she's expressed an interest in, the science musueum and mechanics.

[X] A child's interests
-[X] Education: Send Angelika to Private School
-[X] Allowance: 5 dollars a month
-[X] Medical: Ragnite Crystals
-[X] Family: Introduce Angelika to your Beloved
-[X] Religion: Indoctrinate
-[X] Activities: Acrobatics
-[X] Activities: Dance
-[X] Activities: Etiquette
-[X] Activities: Mechanics
-[X] Activities: Science Museum

I'm wondering, what are people's thoughts on the "induct" and "indoctrinate" options, because those are among the main differences between the two plans that are getting traction.

[X] Plan Nukoduke:
-[X] Education: Send Angelika to Private School
-[X] Allowance: 10 dollars a month
-[X] Medical: Ragnite Crystals
-[X] Religion: Indoctrinate
-[X] Activities: Acrobatics
-[X] Activities: Board Games
-[X] Activities: Hunting
-[X] Activities: Mechanics
-[X] Activities: Science Museum

Let's make a cute catgirl. Also approval voting for:

[X] A child's interests

because @Fireiy is correct that a child's interests should be cultivated.

Point of order, she's a cult leader not just a normal cultist. And its more like 'Sexy lady Thelema' than a modern cult, less 'high control group' and more weird mystical self-help guru who gives you self-actualization tips to realize your destiny. On the other hand, she really does believe the Valkyrur were aliens from Venus whose destiny was to rule over the humans of this world. So, since Angelika is a pure Valkyrur heir, she's also a spiritually and morally superior being to everyone, even Helena who's just a reincarnation.

To Helena, both Induct and Indoctrinate are low risk options, with indoctrination being the most conservative 'keep all disagreements and education under cover.' way of doing things while Induct is more based on normal social order and her outer circle not hearing anything that crazy in her sermons. There's still a thin chance the outer circle start worshiping Angelika, or Angelika's own upbringing and spirituality collide violently with what Helena is putting on the table. But the odds are pretty slim, because Feyan teaching are still rooted pretty deeply in normal Yddrist teachings.
