Roll for Mental Trait 1D100 => 99 Result: Genius
The crystal dome of Stambouli Kindergarten stood out as a glittering jewel amid the giant skyscrapers and opaque arcologies of the downtown City. It enclosed over a square kilometer of some of the most valuable real estate on Rum inside a pressure-sealed, atmospherically scrubbed bubble. Much of the terrain inside was given over to olive groves, outside amphitheaters, a stables, lakes, and workshops to accord with the educational philosophy of the Shenzen-Montessori academy that had founded the Kindergarten. Theodora was free to pursue her interests and talents under the watchful eye of highly trained teachers and to her delight loved the school.
Even though the Shenzen-Montessori were adamant that all pupils be treated as equals, it was soon clear that Theodora was one of the brightest members of her class. She picked up reading and writing easily, and was a star of the hands-on scientific demonstrations of her scholar-guides. But her foremost passion was mathematics. She was able to use the examples of the teachers with objects to visualize math problems inside her own mind. That was impressive, but when she soon graduated to doing algebraic equations as she intuitively grasped that X was just the unknown solution, even her teachers were caught aghast. As such she soon found herself outpacing all lessons and shuttled over to the Junior Academy proper during math blocks to work with children twice her age or older.
Of course that came at something of a cost to her. Theodora's position as a teacher's favorite, one outpacing her peers and often away from them, meant that she failed to really gel with her classmates. As the Shenzen-Montessori were extremely strict in following the policy of pupil equality she couldn't just order them around, nor would they defer to her. Many of them were the sons and daughters of Peers, anyway, and at least their equality with the Qyasar was established as a matter of formality and pretense. When all was said and done, Theodora only became close to a couple of her classmates, and there were two she couldn't stand.
Select TWO classmates as friends, and TWO classmates as despised; specify which when voting:
[ ] Princess Marija Argolid is a few months younger than Theodora, the daughter of her father and his second wife Queen Isabella. While not as bright as Theodora, she is intelligent enough and deeply interested in the outdoors lessons and animal handling offered in the Kindergarten.
[ ] Mikael Liu is the youngest son of the Rum branch of the Great Peers of Family Liu, and a brother of a promising officer in the Army. He enjoys the outdoors like Princess Marija, and can often be found reading voraciously in the olive groves of the Kindergarten mini-cology.
[ ] Skuld Kalpak is a granddaughter of an important Minister in the government. She is quiet and reserved, but seems effortlessly graceful in the dancing and singing lessons and even mostly stays up with you in the math lessons. Mostly.
[ ] Brandylynn Smith is the daughter of Cleitus, one of the seven Lifeguards who are the closest advisors and bodyguards and troubleshooters of the Qyasar Erum. She's the queen bee of the class, the most popular girl even if she's also one of the laziest students in the school.
[ ] Orlando Arnaud comes from a family of first-generation Peers eager to advance up the social ladder by shedding their Solarian origins. He's been eager in all classes, and is a true terror on the sporting fields, even if his enthusiasm has often outstripped his talents.
[ ] Isaac Umaga is another child of a new Peer family, though one of ancient Citizen stock. He stayed up with you for a bit in math classes, but soon topped out far behind you. His interest in Rumi history and biology demonstrations makes him another favorite of the teachers.
[ ] Casilda Lianos comes from another local Peer family of good breeding and ancient pedigree, though no particular prominence. Her sweet demeanor and willingness to ask questions from the teachers makes her popular among the other students, though her role as Brandylynn's follower-on means those who cross her soon regret it.
[ ] Zemphyria Rationi is the daughter of a set of fraternal twins from the Rationi family of Great Peers, relatives of the first wife of the Qyasar. She is a more outgoing rival to Skuld, a singer and dancer who takes first place as an idol of the class. Her closeness to her twin Zviad means that her friends are often his friends, and her enemies are certainly his enemies.
[ ] Zviad Rationi is the son of a set of fraternal twins from the Rationi family of Great Peers, relatives of the first wife of the Qyasar. He is a competitive force in the classroom and on the fields, and by turns a troublemaker and endearing. His closeness to his twin Zemphyria means that his friends are often her friends, and his enemies are certainly her enemies.
[ ] Eumenes of Muron is the son of a merchant, a mere Citizen in a school full of Peers with a place bought through money rather than social status. He is quiet and uncertain of his place, but the only student to keep up with you fully in most classes.
[ ] Philo Angeletes, the son of a Peer family on the ascent thanks to the dedicated service of his father in the ranks of the civil service. He is larger and more aggressive than any of the other boys in the class, and only an indifferent student prone to bullying others into helping him.
