hello everyone! i resurrecting this fic!

i wanted to ask: in the case Sera and Taylor become cape what names they would use?

i betting: Pax(goddess of peace and sister of Astraea) and Astraea (sister of Pax and goddess of "justice")
Do you mean you're adopting it, or just raising the thread from the dead?

If the former, do you have a link to it?

If the latter, taking god/goddess names is seen as pretty arrogant in Worm, iirc. They'd probably go for something else, but I'm horrible with names so I don't know what.

This brings up an important question.

If you write an unlicensed continuation of a fanfic, is is copyright infringement?

Not anymore than the original fanfic would be... so yes but, stones and glass houses and all that. Though I have given some thoguht to getting an AI like GPT-3... just version 5 or whatever, and just feed it a huge unfinished fanfic and tell it to finish it... I want my conclusion. GPT-3 still lacks memory and such... but we are gettign close.

You can't copyright fanfic in the first place, so no.

You absolutly can copyright fanfic. The problem is that the source material has a copyright too, so any derivative would implicate both copyrights. This can get really hairy really quick and fanfic authors tend not to have teams of expensive lawyers, corperations do tend to have them.

Ive tried to read up on fanfic and copyright, and all i can concisely say is that its possibly really complicated and opinions go very far apart.

Whatever the legal, plagiarism is not cool in any way, but just reusing settings, essentially writing fanfiction if the fanfiction, can not really be complained about without being a major hypocrite.

On this specifically, i should point out that this may not be truly dead, ensou has a habit of sometimes returning to her(?) fics years later.

Why are we even talking about this? No seriously, I'm genuinely curious.

Even if the thread has been dead and then resurrected, isn't talking about the circumstances of thread necromancy thread derailment?

Because that's not actually what the discussion topic is. It's "is it okay to continue writing a fanfic without the author's active permission" due to ambiguous wording of the necromancer's post.

Well, hopefully the shambling works well enough that it'll alert the author to write more about it. I did really enjoy it when I first read it...

I do like the suggested names, but -- and maybe it's a bit hypocritical of me since I've done that with typo lists once or twice on here -- that kinda was a slightly weak reason to make a new post...

Well if this threads gonna be active I'm gonna ask something relevant-ish: will Tay-bringer have wings? After all, Serafina has wings even if they're in tattoo form, and it makes sense to continue the angel-demon theme they've got going.

While you can "In Theory" copyright fanfiction, I can assure you that 99.999% of fics posted for free on SB/SV are not copyrighted.
Yes, they are, because you cannot not copyright something you write. It's automatic. Even explicitly saying you're putting it in the public domain apparently doesn't work.
