Leet's Shard pretty much just throws things at the wall, sees what's useful, then passes those designs on to other Shards for refinement.

IIRC, word of god was that Leet's shard has access to all the 'tech trees' available to tinkers, but that once he's used a given 'node' of a tree it gains a percentage chance to fail if he ever tries to use it again. That chance of failure is an artificial limitation though; his shard still has all the tech trees and is thus likely the 'master tinker' shard that contains data on all the tech the Entities have stolen over the eons. So calling it 'Archive' makes sense, as that's basically what it is.

That said, his shard is also trying to kill him because Leet doesn't feed it the conflict it wants, so it's probably weighting the failure odds against Leet or otherwise fucking things about to make them worse than they could otherwise be.

If Leet's shard was 'Prototype' then I'd expect him to be able to document his design process such that someone else (possibly another Tinker with the correct tech tree access) could reproduce the device. But that isn't the case, instead he just has total access to all tech trees, once.

I would've thought Dragon since it kind of fits her whole tinker based on other peoples tinker tech name wise and she's the one who might be surprisingly close since she's nominally in vancouver.
Cue them going crazy watching her, and waiting for her to do SOMETHING.

Though now I'm picturing people keeping tabs on her treating her life that can see like a soap opera : P

Tech: Becca and her make a cute couple
Tech 2: You and the god damn yuri.
Tech 3: THESE ARE ACTUAL PEOPLE FOR CHRIST SAKE
And eventually Sera would know what's going on and starts fucking with them.

Tech: You know, she might be the Simurgh, but you gotta admit, she's kinda cute.
Tech 2: Sure, bu- HOLY SHIT, IS SHE BUILDING A NUKE?!
Tech 3: Call the director!
Tech: She's... using the nuke to get ice-cream?
Tech 2: *sigh* another false alarm. It's just a nuke-shaped ice cream machine.

Whole other meaning to "cold fusion"

This is an accurate description of how her power functions. The way she uses her power, however, is no different from any regular Tinker, which is why the PRT classifies her as one.
and how the PRT classifies her power would be irrelevant because it would only matter how the shards classify (and thus name) dragons power
because its the ziz that talked about 'the archive' being a nearby tinkershard...

Never read Worm or any Worm fanfictions - only absorbed a few details via osmosis - but this is entertaining nonetheless. I'll have to keep tabs of how many times I have to google things.

But at the same time Shards aren't classified or limited to the power that their host uses, they have much wider powers and restrict the host to a small thing. It's why 2nd gen capes show different powers from their parents. Dragons could be a bud of Richter. Although also interestingly enough Dragons power is pretty much exactly how the Simurgh tinkers except Sera is of course more efficient taking the designs straight from shards as opposed to what the shards have their hosts produce.

Dragon's trigger happened after a year of Saint stealing her Dragonsuits.

Thus, Dragon had a Tinker classification before her trigger event.

Dragon's classification cannot be derived from her shard.

Shards (presumably) don't use the PRT combat-shorthand classification system. If you're talking about whether someone is a Tinker or a Thinker you're not talking about what the Entities think about it, only the end result.

Dragon's not a Tinker, she's a Thinker specializing in understanding technology. Her designs can be maintained by normals.
Which doesn't mean she's not a Tinker. Tinker in-universe has only one meaning - it's a threat classification for any cape that uses their power to make equipment they can hand to others to use.
Tinker out-of-universe has two meanings, the in-universe one, and a type of shard which some Tinkers have.

Won't how PRT classifies Sera be based on what they SEE? So whats Sera likely to reveal in terms of powers in play? Tinker is the post obvious. I suppose though if she later tanks some shit due to how sturdy she is that might get her another class (..brute? IIRC??) but it be funny if they assumed most of her displayed powers was due to tech.

the question was never how the prt would rate sera but who 'archive' is, eg if it is dragon and from that if the shards think of dragons power as a tinker so that sera can access it or a thinker that she might not be able to

Was the discussion based not on how Simurgh taps into Tinkers?

I should think accuracy in function is very important here.

I highly doubt so considering how Sera would be able to copy Dragon regardless if she is a Thinker or a Tinker both here and in canon. Pretty sure it started from people discussing whether Archive was Leet or Dragon.

Sera just stared at me. "Taylor. Do you know why Tinkers and Thinkers were the worst to go up against me?"

I frowned, trying to remember. "Because you could co—" My eyes widened. "Because you could copy what they could do."

She nodded. "The longer they were around me, the further back my Sight reached for them, the better I could use their abilities and powers against them."

Heeeeey, good to see you! And you brought me an update! Oh, you shouldn't have! But I'll take it anyway. No sense wasting something when you've put so much work into it.
"…The power to your knowledge. The brawn to your brain," I concluded. "The shield to your sword."

"The scales?" I prompted.
Her expression eased. "Ah… Can that be a surprise? I promise it's nothing bad, though!" she said at my incredulous look.
The demon to Sera's angel? Is Taylor going to wind up all scaly and leather winged?
"That's Bastion. Or, well, what Queen's doing that it copied from it."

All of my Tinkering in the past few days is because Archive is surprisingly close by,
Archive would be Dragon, yes? Never mind, I'm not touching that debate with a tuning fork.

"But yeah. That's where my Sight went: to you. Even if it's not as powerful now."
Reminds me of Seraph and the telekinetic lobotomy Ziz gave herself to give Taylor part of her power.

"Or is it an ice cream machine built out of a nuke?"

Suddenly had the image of a thousand Seras being smacked by an instantaneous teleporting taylor for doing something stupid.

... that actually reminds me that the best thing about this is going to be watching Taylor and Sera slowly start treating each other as sisters (though Sera is already pretty devoted to her new big sis).

so much WAFF

edit: I mean if sisters are anything like brothers the antics will be GLORIOUS.

I could be wrong but I think Sera is suprised that leet is within range because she only has a couple miles of power sponge radius. Cities can be a lot bigger than 15 miles across so her range would be comparitively small. She was commenting on how likely he was to be based or ortherwise remain near Taylor's house long enough for her to get his power, not on how she didnt expect archive to be in brockton bay.
