[X] Gwen's Squad

I am very disappointed with the last vote. When we only can get a few ability points improvement total, there is no reason to get one now. We will automatically be getting them at the end of years. Instead we should have focused on improving our power as there has been nothing said that if we max our ability points that we can get power improvements at the end of the year. Come on, think long term people.

The +1 Charisma option may not have been the most mechanically optimal decision (though I don't think it was a bad one, for the reason @Funeral Pyre mentioned) but given that we'd just beaten our first supervillain by talking them down, it was was the most appropriate one.

This is pretty much my thoughts on the matter. I will almost always go for what makes the most sense narratively than what is mechanically best.

I think in general it's fine not to optimize all the time so long as you aren't picking things that are mechanically bad. For instance I don't know that Fortune would ever need an 8 Endurance, so even if it was thematically appropriate to keep putting point after point into END, I'd probably vote against it after we get to about a 3-4.

Another month passes without major incident. There's been no movement with the Morlocks, and even Quentin has been asked to stop coming around, though Callisto insisted it was for his own good. He said she seemed sad about everything, and it's really put him in a funk. Your main focus has been on your classes, and the squad spends more time relaxing together than fighting crime. Roxy even stopped acting closed-off around you a few weeks ago. You've had two more scheduled patrols in the interim, but they're far less exciting than the first one; mostly muggers, drug pushers, and other mundane crime. All without Spider-man, as well, which makes it a bit less... ... glamorous doesn't seem like the right word, but it feels less special to not be out stopping bad guys with a real-life New York super-hero. Still, you're doing good in the world. That's the important part. You manage to keep up with Spider-man through texts, but neither of you have really had any time to meet up in any fashion. Autumn has arrived with full force, and the school's activities committee dedicated themselves to decorating for the coming holiday, so by late September the halls are filled with orange pumpkins and black bats. It helps ease your mind about the Morlocks, and how little you've heard about Herman Schultz. 'He's fine', 'he's in a special program instead of traditional prison', and 'S.H.I.E.L.D. are taking care of him' are the only answers you've gotten out of Spider-man, and you're not quite important enough to begin to know how to get in touch with Mr. Stark. You hope he's doing well. You hope he's getting the help he needs.

It's also helping that you're finally used to getting up to work out with Gwen, and the two of you have been getting much closer. She's so fun to be around! Nothing seems to get her down. Even when she's working through a personal problem or worried about a test, she keeps such a positive, can-do attitude that it inspires you. Her smile is one of the most uplifting thing's you've seen since you matriculated. It's this smile that greets you Monday morning, and the one that opens up conversation as you two are jogging.

"So! What are you doing this weekend?"

"Currently? I don't have any plans. Schoolwork, of course, but when isn't that the case?"

She laughs. "Right? But, like, your squad doesn't have patrol or anything?"

"No, not for another two weeks. We just went Friday. Why? What's up?"

"So, you've heard me talk about Dex, right?" She's referring to Dexter Mungo, her 'disappearing roommate'. You haven't met him, but you haven't met most of Gwen's roommates. Honestly, the only one you've seen since you first dropped by her room is Felix Park.

"Of course. He's... like, kind of a sweetheart but really quiet? He helped you find your keys that one time."

"That's him! His birthday is this Saturday, and he doesn't really have anybody. His mom can't make it into town for some reason, his dad is... uh, I guess not in the picture? And he just... doesn't seem to have friends outside the squad. Not even, like, friends from high school or anything. So Gwen suggested we go, like, play laser-tag and get him an ice cream cake or something. Maybe do a big dinner? I dunno. She said I could invite you, and that you could invite a friend, too, if you wanted, so you didn't feel weird hanging out with all of us. But she really wants to make it a big, special day for Dex, so, like, the more the merrier! I think she told everyone they could invite someone, but... well, you met Mac. She doesn't make friends easy... Vance might know somebody, maybe Felix? And I'm sure Gwen has a bunch of people she's inviting. So it's just gonna be a big Philip J. Coulson Memorial Academy outing for Dexter's birthday, basically!"

Gwen is, of course, talking about the other Gwen in her squad, not speaking in the third person. You've gathered they're pretty similar people, though Other Gwen is much more energetic and apparently hilarious. It tracks that she'd want to make sure Dexter wasn't alone on his birthday in the most over-the-top fashion possible... and laser-tag does sound like fun... plus it would give you an opportunity to learn more about the people she lives with. There's something... odd that still sticks with you from the first time you met Mac and Felix, and it's something you want to explore further to at least get off your mind so much. For people you talked to for a maximum of five minutes, they stick out far too prominantly in your head.

"Saturday, you said? And it's, like, an all-day thing?"

She nods. "We'll probably get on a bus around ten, and then... well, it's Gwen's ship. I'm sure she'll have some crazy adventures planned!"

"I'm in!" You nod, really liking the idea of spending a day out on the town instead of lounging around campus. "I'll have to ask my squad to see who wants to come with. You're, like, basically my only friend outside of them. Even my old high school buddies sort of all went their separate ways once college started. We barely even keep up on Facebook..."

Of course, you have another friend... Spider-man. But you don't even know his real name, much less to invite him to a party, and asking him to come in costume is just a great way to show up Dex on his own birthday. Not cool. You and Gwen finish your routine and part ways. You get to class and take notes, learn, and continue to prepare yourself for a potential future as a doctor, and finally traipse into the dorm in the late afternoon/early evening. Robbie is laying across the sectional, watching Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey with Neil deGrasse Tyson. His little circles are glowing softly, bathed in the light of the TV. Kitty is snuggled up perpendicular to him, poking away at her phone. Occasionally she'll look at the screen, and sometimes look at him or his circles and smile. Roxy, Elvin, and Quentin are nowhere to be seen. If you're going to invite someone to a party this weekend, you'd better do it tonight before they make other plans.

Who Do You Invite?
[ ] Kitty; ask to talk to her privately.
[ ] Robbie; ask to talk to him in your room when his show is over.

[ ] Roxy; check her room.
[ ] Quentin; check his room.

[ ] Elvin; check his room.

o it's just gonna be a big Philip J. Coulson Memorial Academy outing
Okay, this has been bothering me for a while. Noone would say it like this. At best, it'd be shortened to "Academy".

Okay, so if I'M understanding what she's saying we just invite as many people we want? Because then there really is no point talking privately.

[X] Ask all of them.

"Hey, Kitty, can I talk to you for a minute?" You side-eye and tilt your head toward the hallway.

"Oh! Yeah! Sure!"

Shadowcat gathers up her stuff and phases through the back of the sectional, padding to her room. She phases through the door, then sticks her hand out and gives you her keycard. You use it to open the door, and follow her into her room. You hand it back to her and smile as you look around her space; it's so... her. There's a One Direction poster on the wall, lots of bright colors everywhere, childhood relics decorating her desk and bed like a glittery statue of a unicorn, and a really soft, floppy teddy-bear. There's also a picture of her parents on her desk. You always like looking at that; they're so proud of their daughter. Kitty hops up onto her bed and folds her legs beneath her, grabbing a pillow to put in her lap and lean on.

"What's up, V?"

"Um. Well, I've been invited to a party!"

"Oh, awesome! Um, congratulations! What kind of party?"

"I'm not fully sure. It's sort of an all-day outing with a bunch of people from school. It's Dexter Mungo's birthday, I don't know if you know him. He's a friend of a friend. They want to make his party really special, so they're inviting a bunch of people, and I'm one of them. Laser tag and ice cream cake have been mentioned."

"That. Sounds. AWESOME." Her eyes are the size of dinner plates, and twice as sparkly as fine china.

"I'm glad you think so, because I was told I could have a +1 and I wanted to know if you'd join me? The only other person I know there is Gwen, and it would just be really nice to have someone I'm guaranteed to be able to talk to."

"Oh, wow, really? I'd love to! That sounds like so much fun! Thank you so much for inviting me!" Kitty leans forward on her bed, clearly looking for a hug. You respond and she giggles excitedly. "There's no alcohol involved, right? It isn't, like, one of those college parties, is it?"

"No, not that I know of. We'll be going out in public so I think it'd be kind of hard for a bunch of teens to score booze in broad daylight. It certainly hasn't been advertised to me like that."

"OK, good! So! Just so I know how to dress and act, and what to do and stuff... why is it you're inviting me instead of, like, Quentin or something? Do you need a good wing-woman? Need me to use my powers?"

You give her a pleasantly confused look. "Why would I need a wing-woman? Do you know something I don't?"

She looks a little guilty for a passing second, but shrugs it off. "My friend Trevor says he's seen you looking at Felix Park really weird once or twice. He said he thinks you have a crush on him, but I figured if you did you'd have told me about it, but then, like, I've been wondering if we're actually that close? Or if that's even the kind of thing you'd share with a close friend? I dunno. Anyway. I know he's roommates with the Gwens, so I figured maybe he'd be there and maybe that's why you were going? And MAYBE that's why you needed me."

She says so much in such a short amount of time, it takes you a second to catch up and process. You chuckle, a bit nervously. "I do not have a thing for Felix Park."

"Well," she composes herself, "if you did... wing-woman." She grins while sticking her tongue out, and makes finger guns at you. You can't help but laugh.

"Oh, Kitty. No, I invited you because..."

Why DID You Choose Kitty?
[ ] "We don't hang out enough."
[ ] "I need an easy out if the party sucks, and your powers are awesome for that."
[ ] "I couldn't think of anyone more fun to go to a party with than you!"
[ ] "Felix Park is... strange. I want to figure out what his deal is, but I also want backup in case he's a creep."
[ ] "I was hoping your sunny attitude could off-set their mean roommate, Mac."
