No, you can read kindle books through a browser client, though it's a little clunky on desktop. I think it works better on tablets.
I also have the kindle app on my phone, and it isn't the worst.

I don't think just mentioning her by name is enough, she at least will need a letter to avoid the whole killed on sight deal and royal groundskeepers do need some form of identification to avoid impostors. Granted faking being a werewolf is not exactly easy but assassins that pretend to be janitors or castle workers that aren't maids are a thing. No one pays attention to the guy cleaning the horse shit while the head butter knows all maids by name and face.
