Are you trying to extort votes from us lurkers by threatening us with character death if we don't?

Because, uh. It's working. ( = P )
Heh. That wasn't my intention, but I won't complain if it works.

Teryn's basically the Grim Reaper of this world, though, right?
I forget, does he have any sway in when its time for a soul to leave their body permanently, or does he just help the soul on its way once it's left of its own accord?
No, the Forgotten God is the Grim Reaper of this world: a tattered silhouette, almost indistinguishable in the darkness. He's the overall god of death, who makes sure that the Wheel continues to turn and thereby ensures that life and death continue to happen.

Teryn is the Forgotten God's right hand man. He is the overall god of death in the Western Continent (Chamdara) and also the god of necromancy. The Forgotten God gave him the responsibility of judging when and how necromancy should be used. (Necromancy is very useful. Any magic that has to do with souls is basically necromancy. The Forgotten God originally invented necromancy, but he's seen it used for so many horrible things that he's grown to hate it and he no longer trusts his own judgement. So he delegates the responsibility of deciding when and how necromancy should be used to his most trusted servant.)

We can't keep asking Teryn to make exceptions for us. If anything, necromancers have to be more strict in upholding the law, not break it whenever it is convenient. Otherwise we'd see rampant corruption as all manner of people seeking immortality would join their ranks.
Yeah, that's true.

I'll leave the vote open for a while longer, to give anyone else who wants to a chance to vote, and so anyone who wants to change their vote can do so.

When I come back, I'm going to need some dice rolls... :whistle:

It seems like most people want to pour a healing potion on Bellona and summon Teryn to save her. I'm not sure what is meant by "enchant her with something helpful." If that's what you want to do, please clarify your meaning.
I suppose I was thinking from a D&D perspective, where someone needs to roll not to bleed out on the floor after they've been laid out flat. There are a number of spells that could help with such a situation, so I suppose in this setting it might manifest as something that would increase her willpower, maybe her metabolic speed, lower clotting levels, something like that.

That said, I think we have a working plan here. Fingers crossed the next chapter isn't titled "Bellona Beyond the Veil" or something else suitably tragic.

No, don't make us use the dice.

The dice are evil and hate Bellona.
The dice gods giveth. The dice gods taketh away. :whistle:

Yslena could probably come up with a ritual to do something like that. However, she might not be able to do it in time. Ritual magic is slow.

Looks like 'Plan Revival' is a go.

1. Call Geletzilajakika back, ask him to cover for you.
- No dice rolls needed.

2. Pour healing potion on Bellona, remove the blunt trauma
- Roll 1d6+5 to determine how much of the blunt trauma is healed.
(Divide whatever you rolled by 2, rounding fractions down. Gain that many points towards 'Saving Bellona'.)

3. Perform CPR as Yslena uses whatever magic she has to help
- Roll 2d6+5 for Gareth's CPR attempts. Need a total of 11 or more for it to have a beneficial effect. If your total is 8 or less it has a negative effect.
(Deduct 10 from your total. If the result is a positive number, gain that many points towards 'Saving Bellona'. However, if your total is 8 or less, deduct 2 points from your 'Saving Bellona' score.)
- Roll 2d6+9 for Yslena's ritual magic. Need a total of 14 or more for it to have a beneficial effect. Less than that, Yslena can't complete the ritual in time.
(Deduct 13 from your total. If the result is a positive number, gain that many points towards 'Saving Bellona'.)

4. Ask Geletzilajakika to use his Mastery of Electricity as a debrillator. Use it on Bellona. Make sure he understands what is required of him.
- Roll 2d6+11 for Gelly's Mastery of Electricity. Need a total of 18 or more for it to have a beneficial effect. If your total is 15 or less, the electric shock hurts Bellona.
(Deduct 17 from your total. If the result is a positive number, gain that many points towards 'Saving Bellona'. If your total is 15 or less, deduct 1d6 points from your 'Saving Bellona' score.)

To save Bellona's life, you need at least 9 points. Good luck!

Possibly I'm making a mistake by allowing the dice to dictate whether Bellona lives or dies. It's bad storytelling, I know.

However, as I've said before, Bellona's death here fits in with my plans for this story. But I'm not going to let it happen without giving you a chance to save her. Therefore, randomness!

EDIT: I've added a new tag, "discussion and votes keeps the quest going", but the grammar nazi in me insists that it should be "discussion and votes keep the quest going". For that reason, I'm tempted to get rid of it. :rolleyes:

Anyway, assuming I didn't screw up the math anywhere, we have 72.9% chance of pulling this off.

I'm rechecking the numbers though, because that seems high.

EDit : Numbers checked, odds down to 66%

AnyDice

Edit 2: Anyway, of to a good start.

We got 5 points out of 9 already.

This increases the odds of succes from 66% to 74%.

Thanks for doing the odds. It's not precisely comforting, but it allowed me to me about 26% worried, instead of blindly worried.

Not gonna lie, I'm kind of scared to touch the dice after that Illusion roll...

Hope Gareth does better with his CPR. Playing this song for luck.

It had a happy ending...

Edit: 12-10= +2 points to the Saving Bellona fund, for a total of 7 out of 9.

Here goes. Magic, don't fail us now!

Edit: Magic did not, in fact, fail us. I rolled a 6, for a total of 15. +1 to Bellona's chances of living! One more to go.

(I'll have you know, though, my heart skipped a beat when that 1 showed up)

Edit 2: Correction, it's a +2, leaving us at a total of +9! Success!

So, who wants to do the roll upon which everything depends?
Thanks, no pressure huh?

It's roughly a fifty fifty chance, but slightly not in our favor.

Edit:
I was really tempted to delete the post, but that would be unethical.

2d6+11
1+2+11=14
:'(

Double Edit:
Thankfully, I'm too inept to use the forum dice, so this roll doesn't actually count.
Tascion threw 2 2-faced dice. Reason: Electric Shock Total: 3
2 2 1 1

..Goddamnit, we actually have enough points to save Bellona now, but if the eel does something wrong (about 16% chance) she dies.

Let's calculate :

Potion : 1d6+5 = 11/2 => 5/9
CPR : 7+5 = 12-10 => 7/9
Ritual : 6+9 = 15 - 13 => 9/9

So yeah. Whomever rolls, know that you can not know success, only redundancy or failure.

Whoops! That one's on me. I subtracted 14 instead of 13. My bad!

Kinda debating whether or not to edit the original post though, to make this less confusing for archival readers

well, if you want to make it clear, maybe edit it to just note that your initial tally was wrong, and it took the lot of us nearly a day to notice? Anybody reading the whole thing will figure it out though.

Huh. I tested it a few times (by rolling the dice offline) and after ten attempts I'd managed to save Bellona exactly half of the time. Maybe I'm just unlucky with the dice.

Let's calculate :

Potion : 1d6+5 = 11/2 => 5/9
CPR : 7+5 = 12-10 => 7/9
Ritual : 6+9 = 15 - 13 => 9/9

All right. I guess Bellona gets to live. Hmm. I'll adjust my plans accordingly. :evil:

Anyway, I've been out to the cinema today. I watched Thor: Ragnarok and The Death of Stalin. I enjoyed both films, but now I'm exhausted. It's funny how tiring sitting down not doing anything can be.

I'll try to update this quest sometime in the next few days. Be seeing you.

Ah yes, I suppose living does not mean healthy. Let's just hope we're not dealing with a fate worse than death.
