Prologue & Chapter One - BCs Courier Arc

Prologue - The Dream
- - -

You felt you couldn't open your eyes, wandering around blind. Eyes shut, you could only hear the light whine of the wind about you. However, a light you cannot see lights before you, and as you grope your way in the direction of the light you hear a murmur. Whisps of a single voice, said dozens upon dozens of times. They speak of a future, a fight, and a way. You try to call to them but your mouth won't open, forcing you to continue to grasp for the light.

You grab hold of it, and as you feel it, it becomes familiar. It's like a chalice, only not quite. The base is too solid, too heavy, and too square. As you pick it up and turn around, a great gust of wind passes through you. It's noise is too loud, you awake.

Chapter One

Your eyes open to your blinds flapping around wildly, the wind gusts causing them to violently attack the wall. Wishing you could afford a nice air-conditioner, you close your window and make your way to the kitchen. You think back to your childhood throughout the city of Clinton. Be it running with Weigh, learning the basics of the martial arts under Master Trigger, or even wading around the Heights with the Dayers, you'd say it was a good childhood. That said, perhaps school was the best thing, because it allowed you to be taken out the fights throughout the alleys and actually learn something that isn't entirely based from the streets. Although that accepts the irony that your skills, taught by Master Trigger, allowed you to get in and represent the Trigger school on a collegiate level.

Ruminating over your past, and in particular one fight with a member of a community college in Newport, you pour yourself a bowl of cereal. Perhaps it's that very event that summoned him, but almost in time with your first bite a stone hits your window. Going over, you see Weigh, in his gregarious glory, waving to be buzzed in. Eyeing your food with a near possessive nature, you buzz him in. If you wanted to eat the entirety of anything, it had to happen before Weigh got in the door.

Weigh walked into through the door just as you inhaled the rest of your bowl. Giving a knowing wink, Weigh sat carefully (after helping himself to some OJ) and began.

"Good news Willy, we have some work from the Dayers today. As you probs know, it'll be paid in small change and small bills, but it gets the work done. The first is that one of the restaurants on Daye, the Ham Hock, are complaining that the Guff are hassling them for protection money. Given they pay the Dayers, I think it's only right we earn our fees. Uh..."

Weigh pulls out the little day book he carries, which always helped given his slightly habitual note taking.

"Apparently an up and comer from the Swannies challenged us to a proper duel for that arcade at 18th and Henry? A pipsqueak, but he's leading some ambitious young'uns in the Swannies. You could take it, beat him, and secure us the arcade for us for the time being. Lastly, apparently there needs to be a courier moving some document or another from the BCs to some people called the Dragon Clan over by the Heights? It's on the other side of the city and will probably take all day, but the BCs asked Master Fuzzy for a neutral party to move it.

Yeah, that's it. A busy day. We can probably only do one, because the Guff always complicate things unnecessarily, while that Swanny gives me a bad vibe. Anywho, it's up to you, I don't mind. Besides, I've already mapped out lunch for each location. So what do you say?"

Pouring yourself a glass of OJ, you wonder what's the best thing to do today. Gotta make that rent somehow.

DAYER ERRAND:

[ ] The Ham Hock; The Guff are trespassing on our area again. Go and deal with them on behalf of the Dayers, although given the Guff it'd probably devolve to a fight or some other underhanded affair.

[ ] Swanny Arcade Duel; The Swannies are filled with youth who seek to prove themselves, being one of the youngest gangs in Clinton. Some young buck is seeking to make a name for himself at the Dayer's expense, teach him a lesson not to mess with us.

[ ] BC's Courier; The BCs and Dayers are relatively cordial to one another, so it's no surprise they asked us to do some neutral work for us. Never heard of Dragon Clan though. No matter, should be an easy in-and-out excepting having to cross the sprawling city.

The winning vote is in the spoiler below. I'm going to ask that votes are now taken in plan format for the ease of everyone from now on. It was my bad for not asking that from the beginning. That said, I realise I'm giving you only one vote this time round, so it'll have to be for the next vote.

That said the character sheets have been update and I'll put a moratorium on voting for
2 hours to allow some discussion on what to do next.

I'm interested to find out what the Dragon Clan is, so I say we just go with that.

Chapter Two - BCs Courier Arc

Chapter Two

Weigh nodded at your response, "Makes sense Willy, we get to do a favour for Master Freckles, get to figure out who this Dragon Clan, and pass by a couple rather fantastic bakeries off the far side. All while you make rent and I make up my food deficit. Lets go friendo, time to make our daily bread." The chair squeaked as Weigh stood up, but it didn't bother him as he gathered his gear. Apparently he left his backpack in the hallway, which made things easier and quicker for you. Grabbing a piece of toast for the road, you put on your butt-kicking boots and make you way out the house, down the stairs, and out the back of the dojo.

You first make your way over to the Dayers HQ, although given that the Dayers has set up their headquarters right behind the Trigger Dojo, making your way over might be a misdemeanor. You essentially open the door to a gathering of your old school and gang buddies, who've all be keeping themselves busy by engaging in some busy work or another. You see some Dayers moving some bags of something onto a cart, although don't give it more than a cursory thought. Moving to the Dayers' Throne (an old recliner) you pay respects to Fuzzy, whose facial hair looks as bad as ever.

"Hey, good to see you Willy. Glad to see you're up and about and ready to make some money. So what's your choice? Courier, duel, or the Guff?"

You respond quickly that you're wishing to make your way across town to courier for the BCs, which elicits a chuckle from Fuzzy. "Makes sense eh? Get a favour from Frecks and get to have Weigh eat his way through other restaurants for once. Make your way to the BCs base and you'll collect your package there. Should be a fairly A to B run, nothing to worry about. Introduce yourself as the 'Courier', they'll know it's you instead of an uppity punk."

This was all you needed, as you left the crowded space behind Trigger's dojo and made your way to the corner of Broad and Church, where the BCs happily and endlessly meditated within their dojo. It was an uneventful affair, as you lazily took the bus to get to Broad and Church within a decent hour. Getting off the bus, you walk over to where a large amount of rather serene looking young men congregated in a manner which would send many a mother into a fit. Introducing yourself as the courier from the Dayers, you were quickly escorted to Master Freckles. Coming face-to-face, well, figuratively, given his short stature, to Master Freckles, he launched right into it.

"Listen courier, you've got an important job. You all might not know them, but we've been fighting the Dragon Clan off the far side for over a year." This came to a shock, as the BCs were known throughout this half of Clinton as a peaceful and reflective gang. Freckles didn't leave you much time to think. "It is imperative that you bring your package to the Dragon Clan and not get waylaid along the way. Sadly, smaller gangs through the far side know of this exchange and will be searching for you. Luckily for you, they don't know when and don't know who the Dayers are. Thus I recommend that you keep your ego in check and head down."

With yet another bomb dropped on you, which is that Freckles hadn't informed Fuzzy of the realities of the move, Freckles turned and flicked an order to come with him. Little choice in your corner, you made your way further into their dojo, until you come face-to-face to [PACKAGE]. It was not what you expected.

Gathering the package with little issue (surprisingly), you are almost paranoid as you walk back through the BC's dojo to the exit. Although you couldn't see anything, you knew a dozen eyes were on you at all time. It was creepy and put you off ease, as your pride and station kept you from suddenly turning and confronting those that silently followed you dark. The lights, which you didn't even notice because it was so below your interest, were far too little. Craving the daylight, you breathed a huge sigh of relief as you exited the dojo, heavy guards posted in the front.

Meeting back up with Weigh, you interrupt him before he could say anything. This was far more serious than you were given credit initially. It was time to have a short [PLAN] of how to get from the BC's dojo to the meeting point on the far side. That is if you even go anyways, your inner mind whispered in a fit of [GREED].

PACKAGE:

[ ] Rose; A red-headed and feisty individual, this is the older sister of Master Freckles. Rose is loud, powerful, and a well known Chessboxer, that exceedingly rare and esoteric martial arts known to few.

[ ] A Dao; Given the laws of Clinton, weapons are exceedingly rare and desired objects. This dao is more than your average sword, as it seems to radiate importance. This could be your imagination though.

[ ] A Pair of Gold Bars; These bars represent more money than you've ever seen in your life. It was not uncommon for you to be paid (and in turn pay) in small change. Thus these small gold bars, stamped by foreign reserves of past governments, were some of the most valuable things within Clinton. At least to you.

PLAN:

[ ] Take the Subway; This is the easiest way and quickest to make it to the meeting point. However Freckles has implied that they will be guarded, so if you go it'll be a fight. Also Weigh won't be able to make to some bakery or another until after the assignment.

[ ] Bike over; A much slower but a much safer (relatively) route to the meeting area. It's assumed the Dragon Clan, whoever they are, aren't all too patient, so it could be a risk. However, excepting a particularly nasty roving band of gangers, there's no reason to assume you'll be attacked on the way there.

[ ] Take the long way; The slowest route that'd take all day to reach there, let alone get home. You'd go north and wrap around to the far side. There's no reason why you'd do this besides wanting to interrupt whatever process is happening between the BCs and Dragon Clan. Further, you'd probably meet up with some Guff on the way North.

GREED:

[ ] Steal the Package; This isn't worth your time, take what you have and return home. You owe Freckles nothing.

[ ] Don't steal the Package; Greed is one of those vices that you can't indulge in, at least not yet. Perhaps a different time, or perhaps never.

Sorry for the delay, busy week.

Remember, vote in plans and there is a moratorium on voting for 2 hours to allow some discussion on what to do next.

Hmm let's take

[x] Honourable Sword
[x] A Dao; Given the laws of Clinton, weapons are exceedingly rare and desired objects. This dao is more than your average sword, as it seems to radiate importance. This could be your imagination though.
[x] Bike Over
[x] Don't Steal the Package

Reasoning:
The sword is the most obviously 'mystical artifact' thus that makes it more important than the gold bars, but unlike Rose, it won't (I hope) get in to trouble on the escort quest. However where are we going to hide a sword? Best not to steal it.
Swords don't do well on subways so better to bike as going on foot will take too long.

[x] Give Rose a ride
-[x] Rose; A red-headed and feisty individual, this is the older sister of Master Freckles. Rose is loud, powerful, and a well known Chessboxer, that exceedingly rare and esoteric martial arts known to few.

Tempted to [ ] Steal the Package just for lulz. How would this combination even work? Gold bars I can understand, but what would you even do with a kidnapped Chessboxer?
