Int+ is only marginally useful in combat imo. If this was the concern, I'd argue not taking soldat-stero at minimum is a mistake. If you want to fight in a way that takes her by surprise, then there are a lot of physical stacking buffs here that combo well with visceralist. Soldat-stero is already more powerful than its price tag would suggest (due to being outdated), and on top of that we can get 3X the benefit.

That pill alone is probably better all three of your top 3 pills for this ambush in particular.
You are overlooking the basic synergy of choices. CogniSpark gives you ability to think, but not act, while QuickFix gives you ability to move quickly, but little besides. Together they give us a true super speed, and agility was ever the most superior stat. This makes our Contamination drastically better as we can use it faster, be more precise and avoid enemy attacks easier.

The third one has amazing utility of competence+, which is always a powerful stat and triply so given how many poor choices Dorian has made thus far. Together, you get a powerful mix of both immediate power, but also long term flat power we can build around and value generated by better decision making.

There are for sure builds that are more focused on immediate power, but I don't think they are that better in aggregate to compete with overall value we get out of this synergy.

Birdsie has commented that Demar Medication can somewhat mitigate fixation.

Q: Could Demar Medication plausibly mitigate fixation effects?
A:
Extremely well in fact! You could even benefit from Fixation partially while remaining unbothered with the pieces of your cognition that make decisions, for example

[X] Plan Sonic & Knuckles
-[X] CogniSpark® (7,770 Credits)
-[X] De-Mar Medication® (3,800 Credit)
-[X] The Quick-Fix® (3,000 Credits)
-[X] New Soldat-Stero® (2,899 Credits)
-[X] Cure to Cancer® x6 (300 Credits)
-[X] The Chill Pill® x11 (231 Credits)

-[X] The Amazing and Bombtastic Infimedica X-Ray Vision Pill® x2 (+2000 Credits)
-[X] The Silver Edge® x9 (+1000 Credits)

Firstly, some Birdsie Discord notes:
  • The Silver Edge's mental degradation is "Most likely a minor psychological disorder. Mild schizophrenia, BPD, etc.", which means it could be substantially mitigated with De-Mar Medication.
  • We're free to take as many of the tester pills as we'd like, for free, though we're only paid for what we test. This comes with the disclaimer that "Infimedica United Neonclave is not responsible for any losses incurred in messing around with incomplete works of Product Engineering."

I think Wolfy's plan is excellent, but we can squeeze a little more out of it. Soldat-Stero will massively buff our physical stats, which gives us much higher survivability against losing the flip on the X-Ray Vision Pill. We can also use a Chill Pill to provide slight mitigation. Silver Edge can be handled with a mix of Cure to Cancer and De-Mar, both of which we were already buying. Soldat-Stero seems especially valuable if we're intending to move at high speeds (sure, we'll have the mental speed to handle it but that won't exactly let us go throwing punches while running around at the speed of sound).

I'm a little worried something bad will happen if we try to take too many of the tester pills, especially the one which spawns an endless stream of demons, so I'm limiting it to a spare X-Ray Vision Pill to either study or hammer with, and a bunch of Silver Edges because they're good to barter with. Since we can include the cure to cancer and fix argyria ourselves it's a proposition I think some would pay for even with the mental illness risk.

Birdsie has given us a substantial amount of Discord information on the Absurdity pill, and it sounds extremely promising:

"(The characters may have) Significantly to extremely higher (power level) than your own at the moment; somewhat higher, even if you took a very good combo of options here aimed at enhancing immediate power.

That said, there are some caveats. You cannot wholesale invent a fictional character from nowhere, as seen in cases of people trying to monkey around in that fashion in the past; it must have an established identity as a character. It should be kept in mind you'll mostly be constrained to characters from Drethiri fiction, as that's most of what Dorian has consumed. This can include fairy tales (The Mask That Had No Name, the Mask Hydra and the Maidens,) or more "modern" novels, as well as vague awareness of characters you've picked up on the Street.

This doesn't work on real or historical characters unless a version of them exists in a sufficiently fictional account. Jesus Christ would only be summonable if you were from a world where the vast majority of people believed he's fictional; if from a world of faithful Christians, this wouldn't work.

If Dorian were from Earth, he could consume Absurdity to summon a weaker Superman, but not Elon Musk. He could summon Black Adam from the 2022 movie, identical in every fashion to that movie's portrayal of that character, but not summon Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson."

He has also confirmed that Dorian knows of characters with the requisite power level, versatility and agreeableness to effectively maximize the value of the Absurdity pill, aided in part by the pill naturally influencing its creations to be positively disposed to its ingestor. Given these disclaimers, Absurdity seems like absurdly good value, and unambiguously the strongest option for our upcoming Somber fight.

[X] Plan Absurdity
-[X] Take Absurdity, New Soldat-Stero; save one Cures to Cancer and two Chill Pills [-16,999]
-[X] Take the X-Ray Vision Pill [+2000]
-[X] If Linneas can think of any fictional characters from his world with the requisite combination of versatility, power and benevolence, have him tell Dorian their stories to expand our potential remit. We are especially interested in powerful archmages, clerics, or others that are both cooperative and have potent spiritual healing and buffing abilities
-[X] Use the following safety procedures for the X-Ray vision pill: if Dorian's Absurdity choice has super-healing or defensive buffing effects, take Absurdity first, then wear Crimson Lost and have Linneas encourage your fortitude and regenerative powers while the Absurdity creation buffs you. Only then ingest the X-Ray vision pill. If Dorian's Absurdity choice lacks such versatility, take New-Soldat-Stero, then X-Ray Vision, then Absurdity. Briefly brainstorm with Linneas on ways to use the Chill Pill to mitigate the X-Ray Vision Pill, wearing Theatre Child during that time. Some potential solutions might be: simply consuming a Chill Pill beforehand; merging a Chill Pill with New Soldat-Stero via the Hammer to grant New Soldat-Stero the 'fire resistance' attribute at super-soldier magnitude; merging a Chill Pill with a mask that produces an aura of Combustion Resistance which Linneas or the Absurdity creation wear while we take the X-Ray Pill; merging both Chill Pills with Crimson Lost before we wear it, etc. The players aren't specifically versed on what the Hammer can create or how but hopefully one of the above tactics will have outsized impact compared to the Chill Pill alone. Perhaps Dorian can divine such outcomes via a hastily constructed Screentime while Linneas hypes him.
-Consider if merging the shards of the Arcanist with Absurdity (or with the Mask itself) might allow us to give the Mask With No Name Japhris' prior Arcanist powers without the downsides of Fixation. Arcanist's still an 80+ Potential Mask, after all. Or maybe we can merge a Chill Pill with the Arcanist to make a chill version of the Arcanist that is much less intense and potentially dangerous. Or perhaps even merge a Cure For Cancer with the Arcanist to excise its unnatural mental influence aspect and prevent its influence from continuing to metastasize... the Hammer's supposed to merge according to our intentions; it's just unclear how literal versus metaphorical such merges can be. The characters would have experimented with it and know.
-[X] If Dorian and Linneas think it's a good idea, have one of them take Silver Edge in order to do some of the experiments from plan Science and Knuckles they think are promising. This would mostly be the case if one of the following are true:
*Merging two Chill Pills with the Hammer produces a linearly stacking or superlinear stacking effect, or at the very least is >150% as good as a single Chill Pill
*Dorian can test this by fusing the merged Chill Pill with a Mask and wearing the Mask to evaluate it, or by creating a crappy Screentime Mask, predicting results
*If they let us take free Drawback pills without consuming them, we could use those as experimental materials as well

No longer constrained by the disappointing harridans of this material realm; now all fiction will be our canvas.

Dorian Croft... shall make anime real.

Retcon pill is even better than the pill that repairs our dreaming consequence. But why bother with either of those when we can just have Lieutenant Carrasco give us a copy of her Symbiont and let it do the creative thinking for us?

Think we have to pick one, like don't sell out humanity for viscerality, or don't try blasting yourself with faclessness for power.
It was quite unambiguous, taking x% of the pill lets us send 12 words back x% of 12 years. Given how recent the in quest errors have been we could try to correct several. We'd have to deal with the unpleasantness of pill testing, though.

Do we any info on how Hammer would factor into all of this? While I like current plans I don't think they make much use of time and Hammer which we have available, which is yet another layer of advantage we can hope to attain.

We can also craft Masks i.e. you can make a mask that gives a moment of extreme fire resist to combat Xray relatively safely.

Getting a bunch of downside pills is also interesting for variety of reasons, including potential Hammer synergies and something to train Contamination on.

Actual tactics of that plan are kinda super bad. Like there is no real reason to take Absurdity after Xray, that's just mid.

Can we get one Xray for each person? With correct mask and summon, we could earn 8k bonus points. Given that we should craft 15-20 Potential masks right now, creating a Mask that majorly mitigates immolation should be doable.

e: could rather than should

Allegedly, we only have the time for a particularly low-quality Mask at the moment, under these circumstances and with our time limit.
Would we have enough time at this stop to make a mask? Birdsie said:
In the middle of this store / street? Probably not.
You could make a truly shitty jury-rigged one, maybe, but you're here for only a couple of hours.
Masks take care and love.
Though maybe if we take CogniSpark first, we can do it faster?
Maybe we could try contaminating time.

That's kinda weird since we made perfectly fine masks in half an hour, but sure, I guess abusing the downsides like that is a no. Although I don't really like Xray either way, actually getting xray vision might be more annoying than immolation.

[X] Plan Sonic & Knuckles

This is fine I guess. Any idea on how we incorporate Hammer into some of these?

Maybe we can hammer the downside pills into the Absurdity to make them affect the absurdity instead of us? And iirc Hammer's combinations tend to be as-user-desires, so it might improve the odds, too.
If our Absurdity choice is the mask that had no name, they might be immune to Demon Cancer as a result.

We could maybe combine Theater Child with lesser InsipiraVive to increase latter's effectiveness. You would have enough points left for Soldat plus Demar as well.

To be honest, the more I think about it, the more I want to just pick

[X]Plan Creativityfix v2
-[X] Inspiravive Mega
-[X] Take ten of each downside pills for later use and testing

This one. Fix out Dreamless and finalize our stabilization. Yeah we still need to deal with Lieutenant and stuff, but we can figure that shit out. Correctly reforging Arcanist and Containment with some prep will have to do.

I think the lower quality version of InspiraVive is more cost-effective; Most of the value of creativity is in the first half, so to speak, and it also gives a greater absolute amount of mitigation-per-coin. I would support taking some copies of the downside pills, though. If we can get good enough probability manipulation (or divination-of-what'll-happen-if-we-do-this plus enough copies of the downside pill), the Anypill is basically access to everything here.

Hm... Can we get coins by forcefeeding the downside pills to our enemies in the ambush? The X-Ray one will be a powerful weapon if we can pull it off (which we probably can with Contamination; Contaminate the pill's outer surface into a living thing that tries to crawl into mouths, get a bunch of them, hide our own mouths, or make the pill become a liquid (presumably it does this later anyway) early so you can spray it. If we get our Physicals(and Wits) high enough with other pills we can probably just do it through sheer speed.) while also giving us valuable resources (Coins).

Only if whole use Theater Child to boost lesser version works. Otherwise I don't think we shouldn't do half measures. Resolve this outstanding issue now, and then we can plan for our upcoming fight. Even if we just survive with Linneas in tow it is fine for starters. But with creativity, Hammer and Arcanist, we should be capable of coming up with something worthwhile.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'use theater child to boost lesser version'. Like, clearly if we wear Theater Child after taking the lesser version, we'll get Theater Child's Mask effects on top of our partially-repaired creativity?
Sure, we could plan for the upcoming fight after resolving this outstanding issue, but we can solve most of the issue with the lesser measure and have substantially more options to actually work with if we do.
I wonder if fixing our creativity with comtamination is viable at this point...
I think it was always viable, it's just a substantial risk, because Contamination? The risk might be lower now, I guess. We do have the Icarelian, though I don't know how much Potential it actually has in helping us Contaminate.
