The Shadow of Old Transgressions (Homeworld/Mass Effect Crossover Quest)

Military isn't particularly pressing, though patrols and simulation might help. The latter being a sort of "debrief" of our biggest fight we just had.

Diplomacy could be an even split between Anti-subversion and Contact the Assembly.

Industry... Probably need to build some things but I don't know what.

And you already know what I want for Research: full investment into the T-Mat analysis.

I think our best use of this little lull in the action is to use our diplomacy to spread the anti-subversion tech, obviously, but next to knock out some of the research projects that have been stacking up. There's no sense not setting activities for our dedicated industry and military dice though.

So, about the format, where do you want us to specify the dice spread? So if I wanted to plan patrols and simulations, would it be:

-[X] [Military] Patrol - 2 dice
Aru is pretty safe now with it's layers of defense spheres. But you can never be too careful, plus it might be a good idea to stay in practice with ensuring your patrols cover the entire fleet.

-[X] [Military] Simulate Battles - 3 dice
It's always good to get some practice in. You can set up a fleet wide simulation to practice your battle plans against various enemies. This will help the members of the fleet gain experience and also refine your various battle plans and maneuvers.

Or in the bracket next to 'Military'?

It's probably a little bit cleaner if you do it in the bracket.

So
-[X] [Military 2] Patrol

And if you use a specialization it would be.

-[X] [Military 3+2] Simulate Battles

In terms of research, I'm thinking T-Mat and Monomolecular armor. The last fight showed that we need a bit more in the way of protection, especially if we will be tanking any subversion beams or the aftershock of Ulysses' Siege Cannon.

Diplomacy - Anti-Subversion and Contact Assembly.

Military - Patrols probably make sense, as well as Simulate Battles.

Industry - Perhaps Build Capital Ship Construction Yard and maybe Harvest Resources? We could also look into making another Mass Effector for ourselves...

Not sure what the split would be though! I guess we could rush the T-Mat, tossing in some free dice...

Since no more major discussion is forthcoming...

@Arcanestomper Wouldn't it make more sense for Industrial actions to take a fixed dice amount per project? As it is, it's not only a strict downgrade but also very volatile. Or is that what the Yard option is meant to do...

Your plan doesn't assign Valerius' free dice, @Arjac. And I've got some different priorities besides:

[X] Plan: Improving Fundamentals
-[X] [Military 2+2] Patrol
-[X] [Military 3] Simulate Battles
-[X] [Diplomacy 4 (1 free dice)] Distribute anti subversion modules
-[X] [Diplomacy 2+2 (2 free dice)] Set up Shipyard Contracts (Irune Only)
-[X] [Industry 4+2] Harvest Resources (Industrial System)
-[X] [Research 3] Monomolecular Armor
-[X] [Research 2+2 (1 free dice)] Improve Themselves

Is the drone complement listed under the "Allies" information post current? The character sheet post still has Valerius in the Sentinel cruiser and I can't see anywhere else where it's listed. It'd be nice to know what kind of replenishing we need to do to bulk out our fleet. For now, expanding our construction throughput will be valuable in the future, even if we can use the irunese shipyards for our immediate needs. It'd be nice not to have to trek all the way back here any time we need to do a major build.

As for our research priorities, we're about to do a bunch of building, so now's a good time to pick relatively low-hanging fruit like our allies' upgrades, and the monomolecular armor seems like it would be much better when added to a ship from the ground up and not finishing it later and slapping extra plates on to whatever ships we have. And we have literally just had a Bentusi capital ship die on us. We could do with the extra thiccness.

Edit: I added bonuses for our specialties as well since each allied Bentusi has one. That look about right Arcanestomper?

What exactly do you mean by a fixed dice amount? Something like a certain value on the die equals a certain RU spent?

The drones in allies should be current now. You lost all of them except one shepherd.

The Sentinel Cruiser was first introduced in 7.1, but I've added it to the design list as well.

Also I may not have been obvious about it, but the construction yards are not mobile. You will have to leave them in whatever system you build them.

The plan looks fine.

More or less. Mostly because rolling dice to model what has been and should be a very optimized process is awful and I already hate that building two ships in a friendly port is even harder than building multiple squadrons has been in the past when bopping about the galaxy.

Alternatively, "X Dice for Y Ship/Squadron" rather than having to roll for it, with the number of dice having more to do with complexity than simple mass.

I've changed the actions to this. Does it look better?

[ ] [Industry] Build Strikefighters
The acolyte is the workhorse of the Bentusi fleet. It is cheap, potent, and durable. A combination that is useful in almost any situation. There are other strike fighters and small drones that can be useful as well. And while building them in the field is usually possible it can be handy to have a reserve on hand.
-[ ] Strike Fighter Design
(Build 200 x Result RU worth of the selected design) (Target: ???)

[ ] [Industry] Build Corvettes
Most Bentusi don't really use corvettes. But you've developed the Dervish as an excellent counter against Wraith capital ships. You might also need to build other corvettes at some point.
-[ ] Corvette Design
(Build 100 x Result RU worth of the selected design) (Target: ???)

[ ] [Industry] Build Frigate
Frigates provide a flexible compromise between power and cost. As such you have developed a wide area of frigate drones for use in various situations. Even better frigates can mount hyperdrives. So you won't need to really worry about hangar space with these..
-[ ] Frigate Design
(Build 50 x Result RU worth of the selected design) (Target: ???)

[ ] [Industry] Build Destroyer
Destroyers are not traditionally regarded as particularly powerful in most galactic fleets, but Bentusi destroyers are easily a match for most capital ships. The main problem with them is that they are fairly hard to build. Only Aurora's hangar is large enough to build them and they take most of her attention.
-[ ] Destroyer Design
(Build 25 x Result RU worth of the selected design) (Target: ???)

[ ] [Industry] Build Capital Ship Construction Yard
If you want to build anything larger than a destroyer you'll need to build a larger construction yard. These distributed arrays can be easily extended with more modules in order to accommodate ships of any size, but doing so takes time and resources.
(Build a construction yard that multiplies the RU spent per result for an industrial by 2. Each additional yard increases the multiplier by 1.) (Target: 0/10, 500 RU)

Crap I missed the update. Edit: apparently I read the update, then forgot that I read it. Double crap.
Second Edit: if we do build a capital ship construction gantry, do we let the Irunese keep it after we're done with it, or do we recycle it back into RUs afterwards? Actually, is recycling it even an option?

*steeples fingers, hums thoughtfully*

I'll be honest, I'd be okay with either option. The people of Irune have done pretty damn good by us and vice versa. If we build a construction gantry in their space, they'd probably leave it alone and keep an eye on it for us, though that doesn't rule out sneaky spies trying to be sneaky and trying to score some Bentusi tech on the sly. On the other hand, giving the Irune limited access to it to score us even more massive points with them diplomatically by giving them the means to design and build their own capital ships. And Irune has significant amounts of money and resources to devote to such a task and incentive to do just that. Could even be a way for our Irunese Flicker Friends to end up with a hefty cruiser of their own, or a way to entice another Irunese ship into joining our flotilla. Or both. 🤔
Edit the third: the latter would also really encourage the Irunese to do an absolutely bang-up job of guarding said construction gantry, as the ships that it would produce would undoubtedly become the core of their defensive fleet.

You can recycle things for pretty much as many RUs as you put into them. Unless they are damaged. I didn't put it as an option because there are already a lot of things there.

Well, for my part the construction yards not being mobile definitely changes my vote for this round. I still think they'll be a good investment in the future, but I'm mainly interested in them for the sake of not having to go all the way back home every time. While we're here, we should just take advantage of the ties we've built up with the Irunese shipyards. I guess I'll just change my industry dice to harvesting, so that we'll be ready to put in a big order once our research is done.

Kind of wondering if we could lease the shipyard to the Irunese for some extra RU when we're not using it. Or if we could look into making some kind of mobile yardship...

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. It'd also be another snub for the Taiidan Republic admittedly - or rather the Grand Conclave. Them paying us to use it is probably a much better idea than just all but giving it to Irune whenever we're not using it; a lease agreement would definitely help recoup the cost of spending that many RUs on a fixed structure (either a monthly lease or maybe charging an RU percentage of every hull they build using the gantry, something along those lines). As for a mobile yardship, we'll definitely have that if Aurora either comes up with a good redesign for her current hull that can better service capital ship hulls, or designs and builds a bigger and better hull than what she's using now.

is there any good in trying to desing and buildt a dedicated shipyard ship for us later on i like the hiigaran desing the most from the games is why i am asking this and if were going around then having this kind of ship would lessen our need on local shipyards later in our journey (Shipyard)
