Winged Cat

For Science!
Location
Silicon Valley
Salem. Innsmouth. You have heard, in your small town, of other towns being infiltrated, and the townspeople needing to excise the cancer. Innocents died, but the town was saved...or not, and all were lost anyway.

Now comes word that your town has been infiltrated too. You know what you must do. Damned but alive is better than damned and dead anyway.

Rules (with credit to prior games):
  • Roles are randomly assigned.
  • This is intended to be a shorter game. As such, day phases will last 47 hours and night phases will last 23. However, there is no hammer, nor "night is done when all actions are in": day phases will last exactly 47 hours, and night phases exactly 23.
  • Phases will end at 9 PM, and begin at 10 PM, US Pacific Time. This gives me 1 hour for PMs and posting. Phase (and thus discussion) times begin and end on the o'clock regardless of whether I post early or late.
  • If life happens, and you need an extended phase or a replacement, let me know. If possible, providing said replacement would be preferable.
  • Lynches will be determined by plurality vote at the end of the day. "[X] Do not lynch" is a valid vote, and means you are not voting to lynch anyone. (For example, if the vote is 9 do-not-lynch and 1 lynch, that 1 lynch vote wins.)
  • You can only lynch other living players, not the dead, the GM, random objects, or anything else.
  • Tie votes will result in one of the tied players being lynched at random. Exception: if no one votes to lynch anyone, no one will be lynched.
  • No other votes are valid in this game, specifically including "[X] Null", "[X] Hammer", and "[X] End This Madness". As these will trip up the vote counter program, it is advised not to post these once the game has begun, even as a joke.
  • If you have questions regarding your role, the setting, or just about anything else related to the game, ask me.
  • Violation of these rules by players may be punished by admonishment, mod-assigned votes, modkill, or even canceling the game, depending on how egregious the violation is. In short, do try not to break these.
  • Keep all messages in plain English, without obfuscation, in this thread. Do not communicate through other channels regarding this game, unless I provide them for your use, in which case these rules apply there too.
  • Do not edit your posts. If you mistype a vote or have a typo in there, make a second post correcting it.
  • Do not directly quote your Role PMs or any game-related Quicktopics you may have access to, or pressure another player to do so. Paraphrasing is fine, as are statements regarding their content, but do not try to wring confirmation of alignment out of the wording of PMs.
  • When you die, you must stop posting in this thread and any non-dead Quicktopics related to this game.
  • Do not use SV's die roller in this thread.
  • Post at least once per day phase. To avoid inactivity lynches and generally keep things moving, much more is advised, but if you don't post for an entire day cycle without me hearing for you, you may be modkilled without further notice.
  • Do not act against the spirit of the game. This is vague, but generally keep fighting for yourself (and your team if you have one). Please, do not give up on trying.
Hints:
  • Some may call this a bastard or not-true-mafia game (so if you're allergic to those, this might not be for you), and me a bastard GM. (Some may do so before the game even begins, based on past games that I have run.) But in this game, I will not lie to you about your powers or your faction, nor in the reveals upon death.
  • There are no Mediums or other dead-related roles in this game, and there is no deadchat. Instead, when you die, if you are on the Discord server you may join spectator chat there. (There are multiple reasons for this, among them to recruit for the Discord server.)
  • Town may not surrender. The Rumor demands the actual death, not just minority, of every last Town member. In case that gives the wrong impression: this game is not a mirror match where 2+ identical sides have to completely kill each other.
  • This game can take a variable number of players, but is balanced for certain numbers: 12 minimum, 18 preferred, 24 possible if we somehow get that many.
List of players:
1) Thredonist - Local Chef, devoured by vermin on Night 1.
2) ComiTurtle - City Steamroller, devoured by vermin on Night 2.
3) Nanimani - City Electrician, survived.
4) Derpmind - District Waterbringer, lynched on Day 2.
5) TheMaskedReader - Urban Incinerator, survived.
6) Archeo Lumiere - Neighborhood Gravedigger, cooked alive on Night 2.
7) Dawiusz - Neighborhood Poisonmaker, exsanguinated on Night 1.
8) Nictis - Village Ratcatcher, electrocuted on Night 2.
9) Letmebefree - Urban Bloodletter, lynched on Day 3.
10) Sinistar - Village Arborist, lynched on Day 1.
11) Rikimaru - Local Baker, exsanguinated on Night 2.
12) atk50 - District Plumber, survived.

I'll sign up but I have a slight concern.

We can't "Null" our votes? So once you've voted during the day you can no longer cease voting for anything other than a direct vote for "Do Not Lynch"? And it would be frowned upon to say
[Z] Null ComiTurtle
[Z] Lynch [Some other player]

Basically, yes. (But then, that's what you'd be doing with a "Null" vote anyway. This way is clearer about that.)

Yes, and this is a part of why I'm trying this rule out. I have observed the vote tracker sometimes get slightly off because of having what it thinks is multiple votes in the same post. In this case, just vote to lynch the other player and your previous vote will be overwritten, both in the vote tracker and in the rules.

I mean in my mind voting to not have a lynch is something different than no longer wishing to lynch a certain individual.

I feel this promotes a bit less clarity in action, because as an individual that generally takes vote logs I really enjoy it when people directly state who they were voting for before their change. But a test, is a test, is a test.

Yes, but there is something further that must be specified: are you retracting your vote entirely, or are you replacing your vote with a different one?

Indeed. Though if you're logging, don't you have their last vote before they changed anyway? We'll see how this works.

Tell it to divide by line. Problem solved.

You could just go

[] Null Y
[X] Lynch X

It would let you show vote loggers what the previous vote was, but not confuse the tally with null votes.

I'm interested, but I might be less active than my normal. Running a game over on SB and about to get a part-time job. Sign me up.

Totally, and according to the Mafia community standard you should get to see the second day, as should I.
Oi, @Threnodist, @Nictis, I haven't made it to day two in a single game this far. And sure, last game I still got to play from the dead, but that's rather impossible this time, and it is proper decorum to let the complete newbies survive a night.

Archeo really should be allowed to make it to at least day 2. Last game they showed proper improvement and was killed by dice n1. D2 onwards is as always open season.

I mean this is essentially what I was going to do anyway.

I'm just a little annoyed that you decided to tag me for it. Unless you make one hell of a mistake I have no intentions of going after you.
