The Real Adventures of Norgrim Grimsson, Exasperated Recluse (Warhammer Fantasy SI)

If some hostile had gotten into their travelling provisions, they would have used a lethal poison, not a soporific.
And she would be dead, instead of waking up several hours later.
Ergo, we arent looking at spiked food.
That's not nearly as conclusive as you think it is, because the perp could be trying to use a specific cause of death. Being buried in an avalanche would leave different marks on the corpse than poison.

Happy that everyone's enjoying the mystery, here's hoping the pay off is even somewhat close to whatever you guys have built up in their head. Is it a spoiler to say that Norgrim won't fulfill his Grudge easily?
Well it's a tall order for such a youngling.

Its unlikely there is just one person involved in this affair; it almost certainly took a conspiracy to manage most of the intelligence gathering prepwork, even if there was only one person at the sharp end.
Plenty of grudging to go around.

Besides, from what we can tell, the person directly responsible for most of the deaths is monstrously strong, can fly, is moderately adept at subterfuge, and has command of at least some magic to pull off what they do.
Gonna need to grind some XP. Or cash in a bunch of Favors.

Forensics does not exist in the setting as far as I know, at least among the Dawi. Dumping an avalanche on a bunch of dwarfs dead by poison is going to look like a bunch of dwarfs dead by avalanche. Furthermore, several weeks buried in snow and ice is not going to leave bodies in much of a state for analysis anyway. And thats assuming that animals dont get to the bodies first.

It's like playing the game on high difficulty.

AN optimal way would be to use more dawi and more resources.

It's fun watching Norgrim mull over the motives and means of factions that he knows from a player's perspective, and how the dwarves listening have to translate that back into a ranger just being good at this job.

it is quite an interesting perspective.

he's uniquely capable of going, 'this is how they think. this is how they are supposed to act. so they will do this' 'because i would do this when i controlled them, or wrote about them, or plotted out battles around them'

just knowledge of the little waagh and the differences between different tribes, as seen form inside the tribes themselves. would put his knowledge, if he wasn't a dwarf, firmly in the 'suspicious' category. also called the, 'is this secretly a skaven or orc or other gribbly sorceror playing silly buggers behind an ulgu spell' category.

I have absolutely no idea about anything involving WH Fantasy, as I played 40k over a decade ago. I was recommended this story and I see why it was! I love this character that you have made, as their voice is incredibly strong. I look forward all the more to the next chapter.

Yeah, definitely a Vampire. They can shapeshift, so no significant opening in the trees is fine.

And it would not be the first time a vampire decided they wanted a karak for themselves.

Possible, but they have a hard time staying in the world normally. This doesn't feel like the kind of thing they would be doing with their limited time frame. Or more accurately I think there aren't enough moving parts for this to be one of their plots they are enacting while in the world. They'd be more likely to be manipulating other groups into doing this.
Then its the changeling.
Guy stays in world all the time. Even changes shape for false flag ops.(like this one is shaping up to be)
Thank you total war:WH.

....Oh dear. THat's not something a ranger group can fight.

Completely hare-brained dumb thought, but my mind keeps turning back to the Fimir; three toes, skilled in Ulgu/Shadow magic... and that's kinda it.

I don't know why I keep thinking this could be them.

What on earth are they doing messing with Dawi Princesses though?
They're already in hiding and any mess they make would be better capitalized by other groups.

Eh. You have good points and its a guess as good as any.
