The Quest For Earth (CMGQ spinoff)

"We've got a contact!"
"Wha-?" High Noon started in alarm to Winter Lion's notification and turned to face the taller Magical Girl. That, again, was all she could do before something big, and loud, interrupted her.
She futilely covered her ears afterward, thanks to her helmet, as she felt her everything rings from the shock of having large cannons being shot right in front of her. She can barely make out any sound from the others, let one identifying who were saying what. Thankfully, the emerging snake did not require her hearing for High Noon to spot it. High Noon wobbled slightly as she lifted out her weapon from its holster and aimed for the snake's eyes but hold her shot as she saw the snake did not immediately lunge after them as it glared.

First Combat, Turn 1
As the one to start the engagement, it's little surprise that Winter Lion is the first to act once the creature is revealed, leveling her guns and waiting for the perfect moment.

(Winter Lion prepares a held attack!)

A second later, Marvelous Fairytale and Spire Cracker both spring into action at the same moment, both using their spells, though on different targets.

(Marvelous Fairytale uses There's No Place Like Home on Crimson Harvest! Crimson Harvest is buffed with Auto Recovery (112)!

Spire Cracker uses Spire Spike!

Spire Spike
: 75 Base Damage, No Dice = 75 Total Damage
Thornscale Basilisk: 80 Base Resilience, No Dice = 80 Damage Reduction

0 Total End Damage)

A spike of stone erupts from the ground at Spire Cracker's command, catching the beast in the jaw and snapping its head back. While ultimately not enough to truly injure it, it does prompt the snake to hiss balefully, which in turn starts Fairytale's pet to yapping in a hopefully-intimidating manner. It doesn't work of course, as the little dog isn't even snack sized to the huge serpent, but it does provide opportunity for Quantum Cheshire to close to teleporting distance and drop onto the creature's back with her spell...

(Quantum Cheshire uses Rending Strike!

Rending Strike
: 50 Base Damage, +11 Dice Magebreaker!, +20 From above! = 70 Total Damage
Rending Strike: 50 Base Damage, +11 Dice Magebreaker!, +20 From above! = 70 Total Damage
140 Unified Damage

Thornscale Basilisk: 80 Base Resilience, No Dice = 80 Damage Reduction

60 Total End Damage

Magebreaker Reduction: 60/2 = 30 Final Damage

30 Final End Damage

Thornscale Basilisk: 510 - 30 = 480 Health Remaining

Scales Like Swords! 150 - 13 = 137 Health Remaining)

...A decision she immediately regrets, as the blade-like scales that armor its hide lacerate her hands as she strikes, dealing nearly as much damage to her as she did to the creature. The snake, even more pissed off about someone actually hurting it, thrashes violently to throw her off.

Crystal Watcher, meanwhile, focuses power into her scepter, charging it to strike harder next time it's used. Moving backwards, she attempts to take in the entire field with the power of her Gaze, but swiftly finds that the eyes simply can't focus on multiple targets at differing distances and angles simultaneously. Unable to aid everyone, she focuses on the snake and those nearest to it, as they likely needed help the most.

(Crystal Watcher retreats to overwatch position! Heavy Gaze applied to Thornscale Basilisk and Melee combatants. Crystal Crozier charged with Damage!

High Noon takes up overwatch position!)

Beside her, High Noon takes aim at the creature, prepared to strike as soon as it attacks something, which it shortly does! Turning in on itself, the flailing serpent finally manages to dismount Quantum Cheshire and seize her in it coils!

(Thornscale Basilisk does its best python impression on Quantum Cheshire!

Overwatch activates! Intercept (False)!

(Deadeye: 1/6)
Coils: 150 Base Damage, No Dice = 150 Total Damage
Heavy Gaze Reduction: 150/2 = 75 Total damage
Noon Bell: 70 Base Damage, No Dice = 70 Total Damage

5 Difference, Coils win!

Coils: 5 Base Damage, No Dice = 5 Total Damage

Heavy Gaze Reduction: 5/2 = 3 Total damage
Quantum Cheshire: 40 Base Resilience, +40 Dice = 80 Total Reduction

0 Total End Damage

Grapple Initiated! Thornscale Basilisk and Quantum Cheshire are now grappling!)

The heavy gaze of Crystal Watcher robs its attack of strength and blunts the blades of its scales, and High Noon's bullets counteract the momentum of its massive body, but while the combined effort is sufficient to let Cheshire survive the attack, it isn't enough to prevent her from being ensnared by the rending coils of the basilisk.

The snake tightens its grip around the captive magical and raises its head in preparation to strike down at her with its fangs and finish her quicker. And in doing so, it finally gives Winter Lion the shot she was waiting for.

(Rigging: 70 Base Damage, +15 Dice Magebreaker, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto = 140 Total Damage
Rigging: 70 Base Damage, +15 Dice Magebreaker, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto = 140 Total Damage
Rigging: 70 Base Damage, +15 Dice Magebreaker, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto = 140 Total Damage
Rigging: 70 Base Damage, +15 Dice Magebreaker, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto, +14 Full-Auto = 140 Total Damage
560 Unified Damage

Thornscale Basilisk: 80 Base Resilience, No Dice = 80 Damage Reduction

480 Total End Damage

Thornscale Basilisk: 480 - 480 = 0 Health Remaining)

For the second time that day, Lion's guns unleash upon the basilisk. The faux battleship's secondary batteries roar to life in a layered staccato of gunfire, rounds slamming into the snake's neck and chewing a ragged hole through its throat, the supersonic metal unimpeded by the creature's magic resistance. The basilisk sways for a moment, gurgling through the new hole in its esophagus, before collapsing in a heap. Twilight Wanderer aborts her own attack half way through, skipping aside with a yelp to avoid being crushed. Crimson Harvest slows to a stop halfway between the main group and the snake. Quantum Cheshire makes muffled noises of distress from underneath the bulk of the basilisk's corpse as it bleeds out all over her in a final act of spite.

Shan slowed down with a mixture of relief and disappointment when the snake died before she even came close to it. On the one hand, she was happy things had turned out so well. On the other hand, she felt a little disappointed about not getting a chance to do anything.

Coming to a stop, she sheathed her blades and sighed while Dorothy's healing powder took effect for the first time; a weak aura of dark red light began to emanate from her entire body when her magic converted the healing effect, bringing with it the faint scent of iron. Shan looked down at her hands, took in the scent for a moment, and then considered the corpse.

She had to have words with Lion, but more so with Cheshire. The latter had just jumped on top of the giant snake and far ahead of them, for no discernible reason. Right now, she was buried under its corpse after Lion killed it, so the ship-themed girl had at least owned up to her mistake by taking care of it quickly.

Shan considered for a moment longer, then shrugged and turned around. Cheshire could teleport, there was no need to dig her out. So instead of spending thought on that, she wandered back to Lion with a light frown on her face; granted, it was probably hidden by her slowly strengthening shroud.

She only waited until she was in talking distance, continuing to walk as she addressed Lion. "I... will not say I am entirely happy. Some things could have been done better here, even if it worked out... mostly." One hand motioning for the corpse behind them, Shan tilted her head slightly at the other girl. "So, before I say what I think went wrong, I want to know this: why did you shoot it right away?"

As she leaps away from the falling corpse, Twilight Wanderer's grin vanishes. "God damn, shit-fucking, son of a whore!" she exclaims as she repeatedly swings her scythe into the head of the former snake. With a glare on her face, she storms back over to the group.

As she opens her mouth to yell at Winter Lion, the other girl's look of shock stops her in her tracks. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Alice explains, "You know how I said that I can summon anything I kill? That only applies to things that I actually deal the killing blow to, so if you let me finish things off, I can use them later."

"So, before I say what I think went wrong, I want to know this: why did you shoot it right away?"

"Yes, I would like to know as well, Ceci. Whatever happened to having prep time?"

With the creature's death, the panic and adrenaline slowly drain from her mind and body, leaving her exhausted on her feet. This is so much worse than she thought it would be. She was expecting lions—or, well, tigers, this is a jungle—maybe bears, she'd dealt with one of those before. She was expecting animals, not titans. By far the worst thing about the entire debacle was that her spire had stuck the thing unerringly in the head and done nothing beyond make the thing even more pissy and hissy. She was helpless. All she can hope to do now is keep walking forward to their destination, and stay out of the way of others when predators approach.

With far less enthusiasm than before, Marissa pulls her phone out and takes a picture of the snake, and then the river bed that they've been traveling. She hopes it's a river bed, not the trail of an even larger snake... She's not sure she can take another four or five hours of this, or however long away their destination is.

Lion found herself very abruptly looking at Ali in surprise as she attacked the snake's corpse, cursing up a storm as she did so. Yes, Lion knew that Ali needed to deal the final blow in order to summon a monster but she'd never known her friend to speak like... like that ever. That... that was something for later though as she moved forwards to help lift the snake off of Cheshire. She had just dismissed her Rigging so she could get in close enough for a solid grip as Crimson and Ali approached her.

She only waited until she was in talking distance, continuing to walk as she addressed Lion. "I... will not say I am entirely happy. Lion was silent for a moment before she gave a tired sigh and looked back over her shoulder at the two girls as she replied, "Look, I'll explain it all when we make camp for the night because I'm certain that at least a few of the others are going to want to have words with me as well, but it's going to be a shitty conversation and I'd rather not have to have it more than once. I'm already well aware that I fucked up so just leave it till we make camp. For whatever it's worth though, I do apologize for jumping the gun."

With that, Lion turned her attention back to the snake, her hands digging into the beasts scales and flesh till she had a solid grip at which point she heaved and lifted the section of its body atop Cheshire from the ground.

When the snake didn't take all that much damage from her spell, the first thought that went through Cheshire's head was "oh god damnit". When her hands were injured, she was pissed off. When it tried to crush her to death, she started panicking. When it died and bled all over her, all that fear just died down into a combination of disgust, anger, general irritation, and wishing she hadn't even gotten out of her bed that morning.

It took a little while for her to realize that she should probably get out, and by then Lion was trying to lift up the scaly son of a whore that had caused so much trouble. She just teleported out from under the snake, and cleared her throat.

"So, I just wanted to say thanks. Lion, Noon, Crystal, you three really saved my ass there, and I just wanted to let you know I appreciate that."

With that, she started walking to Dorothy, or Marvelous Fairytale, or whatever she wanted to call herself.

"Could I please get some of that healing powder for myself? That thing messed up my hands, and you're the only one with any healing magic."

"So, I just wanted to say thanks. Lion, Noon, Crystal, you three really saved my ass there, and I just wanted to let you know I appreciate that."
"Eh wasn't a problem for me.... Gah ears are still ringing." Crystal poked her pinky into an ear and wiggled it. "In the future though I'm going to nedd to find a better place to stand if my Gaze is going to help everyone. In the meantime though I'll just practice switching who I'm staring at as we walk... That is if no one minds."

Well, shit, that sounds like a whole load of fun. With a gentle smile, Alice reassures Cecilia, "Hey, don't worry about it, Ceci. Now you know better." Alice rubs her friend on the back comfortingly, before turning towards Quantum Cheshire.

"So, I just wanted to say thanks. Lion, Noon, Crystal, you three really saved my ass there, and I just wanted to let you know I appreciate that."

Wow, I see how it is. Alice smiles, "Well, I'm certainly glad you're safe, Cheshire." If I wasn't trying to avoid killing you, I'd have a new pet snake by now...

In the meantime though I'll just practice switching who I'm staring at as we walk... That is if no one minds."

At that, Alice looks at Crystal with a sly smile, "No issues here. You like what you see?" I know you do, I've seen those eyes wander...

"God damn, shit-fucking, son of a whore!"
For an instant, Shan was tempted to admonish Twilight Wanderer for her cursing once the girl stood next to them. She decided it was not important right now, though; their survival went before proper etiquette.
"Yes, I would like to know as well, Ceci. Whatever happened to having prep time?"
Though she did sigh quietly when the other girl just plowed ahead instead of letting Lion explain herself first. Shan had held back on exactly that question on purpose, after all.

"Look, I'll explain it all when we make camp for the night because I'm certain that at least a few of the others are going to want to have words with me as well, but it's going to be a shitty conversation and I'd rather not have to have it more than once. I'm already well aware that I fucked up so just leave it till we make camp. For whatever it's worth though, I do apologize for jumping the gun."
Shan's frown ceased over the admission and she offered Lion a nod; that was all she had wanted to hear from her. She knew how difficult it was to recognise her own mistakes, let alone admitting to them. That first step was the most important, and the other girl was obviously aware. No need to repeat words she probably already told herself.

Now she only had to remember to tell her that later. Or rather, soon. The light was already dimming dangerously; evening had already been when they landed, so sunset could not be far away. Shan was not sure due to the trees taking most of the direct light anyway, but she figured it was about time to make camp.
"So, I just wanted to say thanks. Lion, Noon, Crystal, you three really saved my ass there, and I just wanted to let you know I appreciate that."
Though hearing that hurt a little; Cheshire could have at least been ambiguous about who she thanked, no need to rub it in that the others did little there.

Another sight caught her attention, however. Something that appeared far more pressing in her eyes. A little ways away stood Spire Cracker, taking pictures of the dead snake with hunched shoulders and a rather unhappy frown. Shan was not the most adept at reading expressions, but this were surprisingly clear signs. She also remembered how Spire had mentioned she did not want to be drawn into battle, though she could not be sure that this was the reason for her mood.

Seeing that Lion had wandered off, she quickly made her way over to the slightly smaller girl, armor plates clacking quietly with every step. Her shroud kept slowly growing in intensity, though it was still more of an outline around her form. She dismissed it, making the echo of shed blood fade and with it the light.

Then Shan gently put a hand on Spire's shoulder, wincing when she realised she still wore her gauntlets. "Hey. You okay?" Her voice remained as soft as always, though she could not stop the undercurrent of concern from seeping through. Shan did not like seeing others like that, no matter how fleeting the feeling was for them. She absolutely did not like it, and liked it even less after going through the last two years. She knew these feelings too well to be happy with anyone having to feel them.

"Could I please get some of that healing powder for myself? That thing messed up my hands, and you're the only one with any healing magic."

"Hmm," She pretended to think about it, even though she really didn't. "Okay!"

A little tap tap, a wave of her wand, and a short little chant caused the bag to refill itself. Lightly, she took some dust out of the bag and sprinkled it on the cat girl.

No need to rush now that the big bad snake was gone!

Then Shan gently put a hand on Spire's shoulder, wincing when she realized she still wore her gauntlets. "Hey. You okay?" Her voice remained as soft as always, though she could not stop the undercurrent of concern from seeping through.
Marissa glances over her shoulder at the contact, then turns her gaze back to her phone, though she's looking more through it than at it. After a moment, softly, "Admittedly, when I checked my calendar this morning it said 'deal with ruthless toxic beasts', but when I penciled that in I was thinking less literally and more along the line of five-year-olds." Refocusing, she opens up her phone's day planner, then lifts it for the other girl to see over her shoulder. "See?"

She holds it there for a few moments before putting it to sleep and tucking it away. She finally turns to face the girl fully, gently pulling her shoulder free, and tilts her head up to meet the taller girl's eyes. "I'll be fine. I'm just… fully coming to terms with the situation. The snake was a harsh reality check from the attempts at distracting myself."

Once she had her hands dug into the snake's flesh by pushing them through the protective scales, Lion lifted the mass of muscles and organs off of Cheshire with only a slight grunt of exertion that was abruptly followed up by a small hiss of pain. She had gotten her hands dug into the creature without issue, but the act of lifting the beast had caused the still flexible corpse to shift around, the scales surrounding her hands to abruptly shift, their sharp edges slicing through her gloves and then the flesh of her hand. It was definitely unpleasant and the sudden burn of pain from her left pinky finger followed by an abrupt loss of feeling from its tip told her that her rather poorly thought out action had cost her a bit more damage than she'd been expecting. That said, the pain was unpleasant, but it honestly barely registered compared to what she had gone through in the past.

Still, once she noted Cheshire's radar blip disappear from where she'd been beneath the snake and reappear behind her, Lion tossed the corpse up and away from her slightly to let her get her hands out without any further damage before she turned to look at everyone else.

"So, I just wanted to say thanks. Lion, Noon, Crystal, you three really saved my ass there, and I just wanted to let you know I appreciate that."
You're welcome," Lion said in a slightly distracted tone as she inspected her damaged finger before shrugging as Ali approached her.

"Hey, don't worry about it, Ceci. Now you know better."
"That I do now, and fortunately that learning experience didn't cost anyone their lives," Lion replied after a moment of thought before giving her attention to Crystal Watcher as the girl spoke up.

"In the future though I'm going to need to find a better place to stand if my Gaze is going to help everyone. In the meantime though I'll just practice switching who I'm staring at as we walk... That is if no one minds."
"No issues here. You like what you see?"
Lion restrained herself from rolling her eyes at Ali's response but held her tongue as she filed that bit of behavior away with her earlier actions. Ali had never behaved in such a forward manner with... well, anyone, ever in Lion's memory.

"Could I please get some of that healing powder for myself? That thing messed up my hands, and you're the only one with any healing magic."
A little tap tap, a wave of her wand, and a short little chant caused the bag to refill itself. Lightly, she took some dust out of the bag and sprinkled it on the cat girl.
At the mention of healing, Lion perked up and away from her ruminations about her friend's behavior to instead approach Fairytale and Cheshire as she brought up her hands and asked, "Would you could heal my hands up a bit as well? I managed to cut them up lifting the snake."

Refocusing, she opens up her phone's day planner, then lifts it for the other girl to see over her shoulder. "See?"
Shan considered saying something about Spire's stance on children, but ultimately decided it was not worth it right now. Despite all the adoration she had for almost all the little daredevils, she knew that not everyone thought the same. Not to mention that, from the look of it as she curiously examined the phone she was shown, the other girl appeared to do some kind of performance; that would explain a bit of it. All the children Shan was around were those she could also chide if they misbehaved.

She nodded understandingly anyway; being abducted and dropped on an alien world with seven strangers was... not something she had expected, either. Shan herself had apparently adjusted much better than at least one of the others.
She holds it there for a few moments before putting it to sleep and tucking it away. [...] "I'll be fine. I'm just… fully coming to terms with the situation. The snake was a harsh reality check from the attempts at distracting myself."
Her eyes narrowed a little over the response she got in the end; a deflection was not what she liked to hear, but they barely knew each other. Shan could guess there was more, but would not pry for now. She merely gave Spire a gentle nod. "I see. I'm honestly surprised I am as calm as I am, but... well. If you need someone to talk, I'm always willing to listen, okay?"

She considered putting a hand on her shoulder again, if just for a moment of reassurance, but figured she should not until she knew a little more about the girls she was with. Instead of becoming silent and putting Spire up to respond to her question, which she knew nobody liked to do, she smiled at the smaller girl and carried on: "Say, if you want to distract yourself a little longer," her words interrupted by a glance up at the darkening foliage, "I think we should stop here and make camp. Any chance you can make us a shelter for the night? I only need to conscript someone else to gather firewood and we can even get some dinner going," she finished with a winning smile.

The healing powder still held and coated her in rusty red again, but she cancelled her magic one more time. If she was lucky, it would remain active until she was done removing the snake's scales. Else she would have to get another load from Dorothy to make sure she did not injure herself too much.

A beetle the size of two fists held together trundles through the air with a sound like a chainsaw, landing on the snakes corpse. Carefully picking it's way over the bladelike scale ridges to the open wound on its body, shoos away some smaller insects, and happily sets to munching at the exposed meat.

Carefully picking it's way over the bladelike scale ridges to the open wound on its body, shoos away some smaller insects, and happily sets to munching at the exposed meat.
"...Lets not blast the beetle and say we did?" Crystal shrugged. "Also, is it me, or does no one else have any... Supplies. At the rate we're moving I get the feeling we'll be at this for a few days and well... I've seen the Mist."

And not ending up like them is pretty high on her list of wants.

High Noon's hearing were still ringing and as a result she missed the majority of what were said around her as they all blended into a single big noise. By the time the ringing were down to a more tolerable level and she could hear voices properly, she heard Crimson Harvest asking for help and seeing the large beetles.

"Uh, I can help with firewood, but I don't think we should camp here. For one, we'd have to fend off scavengers, two, I really don't want to know where that thing is on the food totem here," High Noon commented before turning to Crystalwatcher. "The Mist? Is that a movie?"

Oh that looked bad.

Wasn't cut off either so it's not like the pinky could be reattached. Could the dust fix melted limbs?

...Well it didn't hurt to try!

"Sure!" The blonde shouted before grabbing a big handful from the bag, "I hope you feel better! That looks really painful!"

And with that she dumped the dust right on her pinky.

"...Lets not blast the beetle and say we did?"

"Don't worry," Alice says with a smirk, "No explosions from me." With a flick of her scythe, she neatly bisects the beetle. As it falls to the ground, Grinning Remnant leaps down and swallows the pieces in one overly large bite.

"At the rate we're moving I get the feeling we'll be at this for a few days and well... I've seen the Mist."

"Uh, I can help with firewood, but I don't think we should camp here. For one, we'd have to fend off scavengers, two, I really don't want to know where that thing is on the food totem here," High Noon commented before turning to Crystalwatcher. "The Mist? Is that a movie?"

Turning back to the discussion, Alice chimes in, "I doubt the army is going to be moving in to clear this away any time soon. I get the feeling that this will take a bit longer than a few days, too. Also, the book was better; it's much less... pointless feeling."

Turning to face Crimson Harvest, Alice continues, "I agree with High Noon. We shouldn't camp here, considering the amount of noise we just made, and the large pile of food will attract predators." She indicates the body of the snake. "We should probably make camp soon, though, and it's probably going to take a while to get things set up. Let's harvest what we can, then get a move on. Keep an eye out for some sort of natural formation we can use as a place to camp; a cave would be ideal."

"Sure!" The blonde shouted before grabbing a big handful from the bag, "I hope you feel better! That looks really painful!"
"I can assure you," Lion said with a slightly sad smile, "That I've had far, far worse than just a bit of damage to my finger. That said though, thank you for the healing." The last bit was said as she examined her finger, the flesh bubbling ever so slightly under her gaze as it began to regrow. Oh it certainly hurt, the burning sensation was... exquisite so to speak, but it paled in comparison to her last two injuries.

Satisfied that her hand would be good as new in short order, Lion turned her attention to the other conversations going on around her. She picked up what was being said and rapidly came to a few conclusions that she felt needed to be voiced.
"Say, if you want to distract yourself a little longer," her words interrupted by a glance up at the darkening foliage, "I think we should stop here and make camp. Any chance you can make us a shelter for the night? I only need to conscript someone else to gather firewood and we can even get some dinner going," she finished with a winning smile.

"We are not camping out right here," Lion cut in at the frankly alarming proposition.

"Maybe a couple hundred yards from here at a minimum but absolutely not right here," she continued with a shake of her head, "This thing's body is going to draw every predator and scavenger for kilometers around and I can guarantee that at least one of them would be something that eats snakes like this. Those scales are a defensive weapon and if that monster actually needed them then that means there's something here that hunts it and I have no desire to fight an even bigger monster, especially at night.

"We could take some of its scales to be sure and at least a portion of the meat provided it's safe for us to eat, but the last thing we want to do is stick around here," Lion stated firmly, "I've already made several mistakes today, so I'd like to avoid making any more of at all possible."

Lion paused in thought for a moment as she considered what Crystal Watcher had said before volunteering what she had as she said, "I've got a couple of MREs, three bottles of water, and some water purification tablets that I picked up at one of the relief stations outside of Durham."

"Uh, I can help with firewood, but I don't think we should camp here. For one, we'd have to fend off scavengers, two, I really don't want to know where that thing is on the food totem here."
That was a good point High Noon made there. Now that she made it, Shan actually remembered that this was a thing.

She had spent the last two years almost exlusively in Hell, where the rule of the game was that you did not bother someone who was stronger than you unless you absolutely had to. Going by that, the only things she had expected to come, if at all, were predators more powerful than this one. Considering the snake's size, she doubted there were too many.

"That's-"
"I agree with High Noon. We shouldn't camp here, considering the amount of noise we just made, and the large pile of food will attract predators."
She stopped when Twilight Wandered chimed in, nodding quietly over the second reprimand. When she opened her mouth however...
"We are not camping out right here,"
Shan ducked her head under Lion sharp tone, feeling ever more miserable as she was lectured. Her chest constricted for a moment, but quickly relaxed again as she forced herself to breath evenly. Yet she could not help but avert her gaze from the slightly smaller girl, nodding quietly as she spoke. She felt she might have erred with her softer approach after all, if this was the chastisement she got in return for making a lesser mistake than Lion had.

Once Lion was done and turned her attention to Crystal, Shan morosely looked between their group and the snake. Lion had spoken of getting some meat out of it, so that was at least something she felt she could do without messing up.

She also faintly recalled Twilight Wanderer saying something about looking for a cave or something, and had half a mind to tell her she doubted they would find any caves in the middle of a forest. She stopped herself from saying anything, though; with her luck, she would be wrong again.

"Then I'll, uh, go over there and see about getting us some meat," Shan ultimately mumbled and stalked off. Disappointment in herself and a faint anger bubbled together, forming an unhealthy mixture that she knew she had to get out of her system soon. She did not want to have a relapse, and she refused to become a burden because she did not get her act together.

A few minutes alone with something she was good at would do wonders for her. She straightened her shoulders a few steps away from the others while her magic acted up again; the rusty aura had already returned while Lion spoke, and it once again grew in intensity. Shan took a deep breath and did her best to throw off her bad mood. It did not work.

Cheshire watched as the bloody gashes on her hands sealed up. The pain dulling into oblivion was a relief, though her pride was still stinging from how she had nearly been killed by that damn snake. Honestly, she was a little glad that Twilight wouldn't be able to summon it, if only so she didn't have to look at a reminder of how her own spur of the moment decision nearly led her to be killed.

When Lion walked up, Cheshire shook herself out of her thoughts. After hearing everyone talk about what they thought they should do, she decided that she'd help out the only way she could think of.

"I think it might be a good idea for me to carry the meat until we make camp. I mean, I can teleport after all, so if something else attacks I can keep our food out of the line of fire long enough for us to either kill or escape from our assailant."

Suddenly, Crystal Watcher is tackled by a neon yellow crocodile-alike, vanishing with a yelp. A second later, a sky-blue one pops in, drops a sheet of paper, and pops out.
Written in what looks like crayon are the following words:

Grab wrong one. Very sorry.
No worry, I fix. Enjoy.

From directly above you there is a faint sound of shrieking, as if someone were unexpectedly falling from a great height.

"That's-"

She stopped when Twilight Wandered chimed in, nodding quietly over the second reprimand. When she opened her mouth however...

Lion mentally winced as she noted Crimson's reaction to the various replies. She hadn't meant to be mean to the other girl, but for now there was nothing she could do besides apologize, and she already had a number of other apologies to give first as well. The girl still deserved one though, and Lion simply marked it down as something to do later as she listened to what Cheshire had to say.

"That's not a bad idea," Lion mused, considering the course of action with a soft hum, "I suppose it would come down to how much you can carry, re-" Lion abruptly cut herself off as her head snapped around, her radar having immediately detected the sudden appearance of a new contact. A contact that was right the fuck on top of them.

Lion managed to lock her eyes on the brilliant yellow boatman just as it leapt from its arrival point, tackling Crystal Watcher before it suddenly vanished, taking the magical girl along with it and leaving only a piece of paper behind.

She had a brief second to focus on the sheet, reading the words but not really registering them as another contact suddenly appeared on her radar. She immediately picked up their rapid course towards the ground and realized just what was happening, the rising scream being nothing short of damning as Lion finally registered the words on the paper and moved. In two quick strides she had positioned herself beneath the falling girl -she didn't think men reached a pitch that high with any regularity- and brought up her arms to catch the unfortunate soul, bending her legs slightly in preparation to absorb the imminent impact.

This was going to be annoying, she just knew it.

What the hell? Is that...

Alice looks up at the screaming girl plummeting towards the ground. Oh. Well, at least she isn't going to fall on anything important...

In two quick strides she had positioned herself beneath the falling person and brought up her arms to catch the unfortunate soul, bending her legs slightly in preparation to absorb the imminent impact.

Well, shit. SHIT. That's way too high to be survivable, and Ceci is... Fuck it. Here goes nothing.

With a speed that astonishes herself, Alice springs into action. Stepping back into the shadows, Grinning remnant fades into existence right below the falling girl, and opens its mouth. Alice springs up out of it, wrapping her arms around the poor, confused woman in... very revealing underwear.

Huh.

Looking at the rapidly approaching ground, Alice holds tight to the screaming exhibitionist girl as Grinning Remnant appears underneath hers, and opens its mouth wide, swallowing the both of them whole.

Down below, a short distance above Winter Lion's waiting arms, Grinning Remnant appears, and opens its mouth. Alice and underwear girl both tumble out, landing in a heap on top of Lion.

"Owwww..."
