The Queen of Chalices (Grail War Quest, Fate Series AU)

The idea I was going for was a sort of "I'm seriously worried about the idea that my new in-laws might be Nazi sympathizers currently in a meeting with one, can you think of any reason to think that what Kalisviel said might be true?" To put it more simply, I wanted to try and bring up any doubts he might have while showing that we are genuinelky worried about the idea.

That said, I'd rather go with 2 than 4.
Ah, I see. Yeah, that approach makes sense.

[X] Romance novels, such as from Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters
[X] A flute.
[X] A glittering pink and white dress, frilly and with a jewel in its centre.
[X] I try to look as nervous and worried as possible, which part of me really was, to wring any sympathy out of him.

Like all the costumes except the Saber dress personally.

[X] I'd bring up and exploit any possible discomfort he may have about Montgomery and Agnes to get him on my side.

[X] Collections of fairy tales and other folklore, from Perrault, the Grimms, Andersen, Afanasyen, Asbjornsen & Moe...
[X] A flute.
[X] A midnight blue dress, smelling vaguely of ash and ozone.

[X] I try to look as nervous and worried as possible, which part of me really was, to wring any sympathy out of him.

Trying my hand at another write-in.

[X] Collections of ghost stories and other horror tales, from Edgar Poe, George O. Onions, H. P. Lovecraft, Elizabeth Gaskel, Mary Shelly, Charles Dickens, Bram Stoker and many more....
-[X] I did however sharply also notice that very few grimoires could be counted on the shelves, and what little there was was mostly general stuff. As if I wasn't aware already of how little my in-laws trusted me.
:(
[ ] A piano.
[ ] A cello.
[ ] A guitar.
[ ] A violin.
[ ] A flute.
[ ] A banjo.
[ ] A trumpet.
[X] I cannot fathom what this instrument is or how to play it.

[ ] A diamond dress embedded with countless jewels, a perfect match for my Mystic Code.
(This is what I'd pick if I absolutely must, as the text suggests it might be very suitable for us.)
[ ] An elegant midnight black dress decorated with raven feathers.
[ ] An almost knight-like dress, fitted with a breastplate and greaves.
(This is what I'd pick if it were passed down in the family for at least a couple generations, and didn't comtribute to any deaths of the wearer due to overconfidence.)
[ ] A glittering pink and white dress, frilly and with a jewel in its centre.
[ ] A flower-studded kimono with one sleeve slightly loose, I guessed in tribute to my line's original homeland.
[ ] A labcoat-like design with obscure algebraic symbols on it, I guessed in reference to my Imaginary Numbers trait.
[ ] A rich red design, fitted with black roses and even dancing shoes.
[X] All of the above. Ohohohoho!
(If they're gifts from our fiance, it could totally be possible that he'd make more than one outfit. Especially considering that's the family specialty.)
[X] I'd simply ask him, he is (partially) my butler after all.

And to add a guess to who Avenger might be, the mix off princess, black knight and reason for revenge makes me think Marguerite de Bressieux, who I doubt is all that well known, so that'd match needing skills/artifacts to boost her attributes. I have no idea how Magecraft and Mounstrous Strenght fit with her though. Might be a Fate history upgrade but could also be a sign that I'm wrong.

The only other vengeful black knight female (kinda) royal that I can think of would be Khawlah bint al-Azwar, though Arab doesn't exactly scream tiara to me. On the plus side, being a warrior poet makes more sense as a connection to magecraft, I suppose.

The other angle I can think off is starting with the skills. So Monstrous Strenght and Magecraft, plus a grudge, makes me think of some kind of princess that was burned for having demonic blood or something like that. Can't figure out a match with the black knight theme though.

I had the feeling that Avenger was Anastasia Romanov even though she would be extremely recent for a Servant she has a really good reason to be vengeful and and a link to Magecraft via Rasputin. Also while a bit of a stretch the black armor could be connected to the black eagle on the Russian Empire's coat of arms. I can't really justify the Strength though other than magic treatments from Rasputin though those were directed at her brother rather than her.

Avengers that are a conflation of multiple people are a thing, as evidenced by Hessan Lobo.

That could make sense, yeah. Generally speaking, servants are more likely to materialize weaponary with little justification than they are skills. (I mean, who thinks Aestus Estus when thinking Nero or that Lancer of Black actually used a spear looking like the one he has in Apocrypha?)
Maybe monstrous Strenght originates less with the servant in life and more from corruption by the Avenger class?

Edit:
Avengers that are a conflation of multiple people are a thing, as evidenced by Hessan Lobo.
Wasn't he created artificially though?

Weren't composite servants more of a plot point for Fate Grand Order Epic of Remnant's first singularity, rather than something exclusive to the Avenger class? (By composite servants, I mean servants that represent two or more legends combining into a single being that could be considered a servant.)

Right, I think Archer of Shinjuku for example was transformed into an Archer by being fused with der Freischütz.

The Youthful Scholar.
"Quinton, wait," I reached out and grabbed his hand before he could leave. "Listen, it's just- please tell me, is there anything the Wisterias are hiding from me? I mean, you would've heard what that Karisviel implied about them, back there..."

For a second Quinton just froze, his only motion being him biting his lip. He did slowly turn around and, sighing deeply, said to me "Lady Blossom, I-I know you must be concerned, and I admit, this has not been the, er, easiest of introductions. But I just couldn't, I could never...!" He almost collapsed right then, as he leaned against the door-frame with his hand covering his face.
"I, I will admit, Lord Montgomery did indeed express sympathies with the Nazi Party in the previous decade," the words eventually left his lips "B-but that was all before they undertook any sort of invasions. It-it was nothing more than some general comments about how Germany was stepping out of poverty and having its national pride restored, plenty of Englishmen said the exact same things back then... back then," I could see a bead of sweat run down his face, and it was hardly that warm.

"Ah, I see, er," I had to stop to find the words, "Sorry if I've, er, upset you, you've more than shown how seriously you take your dedication to your employers. But still," my voice suddenly shot up, but I tried to rein it back down, "Can't you see, if worst comes to worst, I could end up in prison in the near future, and if I'm lucky it'll be a British one".

Silence took over for some time, but Quinton then said, "My Lord has not even seen fit to entrust me with any knowledge of our night's guests beyond what he's told you, but... there is at least one other thing I can say. Before Young Jarvis left to provide uniforms to the soldiers, he got into a most severe argument with his parents. At the time I assumed it was just over whether or not Mages should be aiding the common folk," So, he finally admitted he knows about Magekind, "but indeed, there is the possibility it could've been over something, um, else.
Sorry, but I really must be attending to my scheduled duties. Do hope you'll be comfortable in your new room, Lady Blossom," Quinton quickly bowed before fleeing the room. Huh, typical, but I do suppose that was more info than I'd expected.

I did at least try my new dress on in the meantime, but I wasn't able to concentrate on the flute or books right now as I was too busy pressing my ear against the floor, trying to pick up any conversations that may've wafted up from below. I could indeed hear what from way up here sounded like whispers, but I also caught the occasional guffaw and some rapid-fire murmurs. Was still too far apart to tell what language the guests downstairs were speaking, assuming it wasn't just English.

One sound I did hear clearly though, came from outside my window. Running over and pulling back the blinds, yet hearing no commotion from those downstairs, I peered over the balcony to see that Avenger, standing guard all this time, had already encountered who I could tell from the aura was another Servant.

A Servant that... certainly didn't look all that intimidating, least from where I could see her. She was a girl around my age dressed in a deep green cloak, with golden letters inscribed on it that I couldn't make out. The modest type it seemed, her head was the only area her cloak left uncovered, showing a sandy brown face largely covered by thick glasses, framed by black hair tied up in braids. Really, she looked like she should be reading in the depths of a library somewhere, not be in a clash of heroes. No, best not to jump to conclusions, appearances can be deceiving.

"Who are you, Caster right?" Avenger quickly drew her blade "Whatever your intent, you will show proper courtesy when addressing a Princess, so curtsy!"

The other Servant shot an out-of-nowhere glare at her, "I bow before only one, and certainly not before one who is herself subject to arrogance and fleeting earthly status," she managed to snap back fierce, despite the quivery tone of her voice, "And to be truthful, I'm actually Rider".

"F-fleeting earthly status?" Avenger then spat out, "If you so arrogantly yourself dismiss Nobility, then you are my enemy!"

"I do not wish to be anyone's enemy!" Rider suddenly cried out, before she calmed herself and added, "I am only in this War to prevent a precious treasure falling into corrupt hands. Please, know that this world can easily snatch your royal title away from you, it is only Love and Wisdom that are eternal".

"Love?!" Avenger then said much more coldly, as her voice started to sound like sobbing, "How dare you... How dare you mock me?!"

[ ] "Avenger, wait!" Even if I'm heard, I have to call out to her. Does this Rider at all sound like some Nazi puppet? I can tell she's not our enemy.
[ ] "Avenger, wait!" I leapt off the rooftop myself to intervene, I at least have Imaginary Numbers in case a fight breaks out.
[ ] I just stood up here, watching and hoping this'd work out somewhat alright.
[ ] Write-in.

Hm. This Rider definitely doesn't sound like somebody that we necessarily need to fight at the moment, and it would be better to optimize rather than leap into the fray. And if we are heard, how much damage could it really do? The is cat out of the bag at this point, and it certainly wouldn't become impossible to come up with some excuse for why we shouted. We're likely to be heard in Option 2 as well, but that one is significantly more dangerous, something that I'm not entirely comfortable with. And three just seems like it's asking for trouble and for a fight to break out, given how incensed Avenger is at this point.

Let us not jump straight into a fight when diplomacy is still possible.

I'm a tad torn on this one. Not so much about the not fighting part, even if I don't trust the Rider as much as the first option implies, I don't want forgo diplomancy. What I'm more worried about is what signal we're sending Avenger. Two instances of just expecting her to let her grudge slip right past might strain relations. So basically what I'm trying to think of is a way to de-escalate without directly calling Avenger out. So how about:

[X] "What is going on?" I call down to the two Servants. If Rider's claims are true, it might be best to give her a chance to properly explain herself.

My problem with this write-in is that we more or less do know what's going on. Rider's dismissive attitude toward Avenger offended her sensibilities and sense of pride, and her comment about love antagonized her further. Given that Avenger didn't even know Rider's class prior to us starting to listen in, it's fair to assume that the conversation doesn't extend much further than that. So while I can sympathize with not wanting to alienate Avenger, and not considering Rider particularly trustworthy (I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt) I'm not sure asking what is going on is going to get us more information in order to make an educated choice.

Yeah, I get what you mean. And I'm not all that sold on the question itself. The thing though is that Avenger's disposition towards us might be the most important thing we need to worry about. Getting along with Rider, regardless of allied or axies? Favourable of course but not vital. Managing to slip under the nazies radar? Important but at least we have a chance to escape with Avenger's help if everything goes wrong. Alienating our easily aggrevated servant that has a skill keeping her grudges fresh in mind? Yeah, that one might screw us over permatnently, if we push her too far. Maybe not this time but these things can accumulate.
Opening with a question at least gives us a chance to get a conversation going without taking hits to Avenger's affection. Of course it might not make much of a difference and still end with us needing to either callback Avenger or letting the fight happen. Actually, you're right in that it probably will. But I'd like to at least try and work around it. Worst case scenario we're back where we started and lost nothing.

I think this is tricky because whatever we choose. we're going to lose something, chances are. If we fight, we lose a chance at an ally, of which we have very few at the moment, and given how much we really don't know, we can't be too picky in terms of people that have a genuine desire to help us. If we essentially try and force Avenger to stop fighting, she'll probably be pissed because she is definitely ticked off right now. Initially losing Rider seems like a minor setback, but if she is aligned with the Allies, there is a decent chance that she's somebody that we'll want to work with in some capacity in the future, and her first impression being a fight isn't going to help with that.

On the other hand, it is completely true that while we want Rider's cooperation, we need Avenger's. And on some level that has to inherently tip the scale in her favor. Initially I was thinking more in terms of this fight in isolation, but I think that you're right that this is going to be accumulative. And there are probably going to be other times that we need to keep her from fighting, potentially for tactical reasons, and her having trust that we're doing that for a good reason is definitely something that would be ideal. I doubt that this incident is going to burn any bridges, but as you note, it could definitely strain relations a bit, and when Avenger is the main ally really protecting us at the moment (our offer to spy with Ms. Eizenbern is more a request out of convenience, and most likely will be until we prove ourselves loyal in some capacity), strained relations are the opposite of what we want.

I guess what it comes down to is: is it better to try and stop this now, or wait and hope that maybe our presence can cool Avenger's head a little? The latter is slightly unlikely, but at the same time, we don't have many good options here, I feel. And at the end of the day, we need Avenger more than we need Rider, and Rider doesn't truly need us, making solid loyalty on the level Avenger can have for us incredibly unlikely. At the very least, this potentially buys us a bit of time to be able to make a careful decision. That may not matter, but it is better than jumping in on the side that isn't our servants, even if there is a solid argument that a fight is the opposite of what we want. So I'll switch.

[X] "What is going on?" I call down to the two Servants. If Rider's claims are true, it might be best to give her a chance to properly explain herself.
