I'm not crying, you're crying. ;_;

Seriously, I've enjoyed every second of this story, and as always I can't wait for whatever you do next.

Option number seven! It's mysterious!

Welp, it's been a long road, and it's been a very long time indeed since I got to read a genuinely heroic Shade, so I'm pretty content with the way things turned out.

smashes option 7
Mystery Box! Mystery Box!

I'm inclined toward 7, because unlike the other options I don't even know where to begin speculating on what it'd be.

The number 7 is of course the story of AuraWren who ascended to Godhood as the God of Infinity, Edge, Pain, Hope and Coffee and started to kick the ass of the idiot twin gods.

Eh. Quite frankly, I wasn't a huge fan of the Heart of Coffee Wren, nor of Other Path Wren. Villain Wren all the way.

The harem ending left me conflicted. I despise harems as a rule, but this was the only logical way OP could have ended, causing much conflict.

OP Wren is still a magnificent bastard though.

Now before I read the second epilogue where I'm sure the funeral gets crashed... Damn.

Dear lord Shade, you can really work with a readers emotions well when you want to.

Can anyone tell me what is the relationship between Zhelty and Chez, are lovers or just friends?

"Gorm... I told you I wouldn't die. Why did you run off and leave me behind. Didn't you think thatr maybe guardin Salem's body to make sure she stayed properly dead was more important? What would have happened if stashing us in different places broke the connection? You were supposed to tell them I was fine and keep watch while I permakilled Salem. This was literally the most important job in the world and you just ran off!"

Wait. Jinn knew about everything Wrenn did in the previous story, Wrenn then went on to learn everything Jinn knew when she sacrificed herself? So, shouldn't he be well aware of how it could have ended differently?

What happened to Gorm, did he have a happy ending and what exactly is the relationship between Zhelty and Chez? Are they friends or lovers ?

Wait, what? It's over? BUT I WAS ENJOYING IT SO MUCH, LET ME GET BACK ON THE SHADE TRAIN, LET ME INNNNN

For reals though, The Other Path is probably my favorite Shade story I've read. There was way less emphasis on SI-knowledge and so much more development. Team SZSR had to earn their way to be the top dogs through hell of a lot of training and learning through experience. From getting utterly beaten by Winter just before entering Shade Academy, to taking on the worst evil Remnant has known as just one team; our boys and girls have come a long way from being Vacuo residents struggling for survival.

For being a bunch of OCs, I found the cast of characters to be surprisingly enjoyable. They may have been offshoots of other characters, but despite sharing many traits with their progenitors, Zhelty and Chez got enough time in the spotlight to stand as their own characters. Gorm, sadly, lacked the same level of development and didn't go much further beyond being the betting man and dependable battle-brother for Wren. We may have gotten a bit more insight to his person towards the end, but it wasn't really enough imo (although the epilogue did do wonders for Gorm's character).

I will also say that the canonical cast seemed to be shunted to the side this time around, but that's okay for being an OC-centric story. I suppose that ties into what details I was curious about but never showed up:
1. Willow's relationship with her children post-therapy. They kind of shoved her into a treatment center and... well, that was it. No calls, no visits, no check-ups of any sort that we saw. I'm sure Winter at least checked in on her mother off screen, but it feels like the Schnee children aren't very good kids.
2. Whatever happened to Jasil? You know, that idiot in Vacuo who kept getting punished for not knowing when to shut his mouth. I just want to know whether or not all that extra training paid off or not. Or maybe he's too much of an idiot to know how to die.
3. Winter vomited all over Qrow's hoodie. That's like at least one punishment off the list of what Qrow (probably) deserves, so what exactly does she still want to punish him for?
4. Will Glynda remain a cake-sensei forever now?
5. Feels like the whole world was watching Wren's relationship status for Gorm's betting ring. Is there anyone we know who partook in it? How did they react to winning/losing?
6. How did the Mistral kids end up? Kind of want to know if the path SZSR started them on made a difference in Mistralian society. I want to feel hopeful for them.
7. So that bit in the future showed us that Wren entered a happy relationship with Zhelty and Chez, complete with a family of five children and a doggo. But what about Weiss and Winter? They're not just gonna remain single Aunts forever, are they? But in order to do that, any suitor would have to pass through Wren's approval... how did that go down, if at all?

"Well, everything but Ruby throwing salt in my direction, thinking me a ghost."

...

"Ruby... have you... what did you think that would accomplish? Moreover, did you plan for success? What would you have done if I actually HAD been a ghost and throwing salt at me had worked? What if you had actually banished me back to the afterlife? Then you'd be left standing in a room full of people who want to kill you, armed with a salt shaker."

---

"I ended up on the ground, my back against the wall, as Zhelty's right hand slammed into the side of my face. "

...

Her hand passed through my head as if it was made of pudding and my brains splashed all of the assembled women. Gorm just blinked cluelessly, stared at his fist that tried to punch me not ten seconds ago and started screaming.

That set off the rest of them.

Zhelty never smiled again.

Chez Shire became a bandit lord.

I was going to comment on Zhelty's Semblance when Shade got missing and was really worried alongside Gorm acknowledging he's a brother but then Lightning Updates happened... Yeah good thing too. I am both happy and not that it did. Mostly because its a great epilogue.
The thing I enjoyed the most in this read or Wren's journey is his life and interaction itself with his friends.
Kinda reminds me of the fuzzy feelings I had reading an Annoyed Ravenclaw with his crew.
Glad of this Other Path. At first I was skeptical comparing the tycoon tyrant to a humble joe in Vacuo and what do you know, better to stand shoulders with them than lonely at the top indeed. CinderWren route turned bitter salty ash in my mouth compared to this. Got mood whiplash because thats just how happy and hopeful this story makes me.
Santa Claus's successor did well.
Also Shade EA... ALL OF EM!!!! Mostly just side stories of his family and by family that INCLUDE GORM!.
Also, ALSO, ever thought of plucking other Wrens or Shades into other Shadeverses?
Looking forward to whatever comes your noggin and mark my words that the world shall pay for your insanity. Either credit or cash I do not know.
Thank you so much for continuing to write till now. Thank you for writing this story.
Ending left me satisfied compared to previous works. Dont know why and as other say, for me, this is the most enjoyable story you wrote.
