The only thing that can stop the bugs is A STRONG ECONOMY - HELLDIVERS

It does look pretty cool, like Earth Defense Force with better graphics and more terrain, but I hear that it isn't terribly welcoming to solo players which rather cuts me out of the running.
As a solo player (or in a 2-player team for that matter) you mostly want to avoid fighting.
Which isn't that hard for many of the missions - just walk around with your map open, it'll show enemies as red dots before you get into their detection range. Especially if you wear a Stealth-armour, which is one of the first armours you unlock via Warbond Medals.

If you do get detected, run and break line of sight, that often works to get the enemies off you.

Focus on the main objective, and side objectives that don't require fighting (which are surprisingly many). Don't take on Bug Nests/Automaton Factories.

Some missions would be very hard to do like that, but I can only think of two - the ones where you need to kill X enemies in a small area, and the one where you need to evacuate civilians.

So it's quite possible to play solo.

And of course it's also quite possible to play with randoms.

Bots outposts are pretty easy to solo, you just need good throwing arm and right Strategams.

Sneak close, blow up fabricator and run away.

Also yeah, do objective firsts and everything else later.

Malevelon Creek has fallen. Billions must helldive.

With randoms, I've noticed that a good way to keep everyone coordinated it so just ping next target. Host pings what they want to hit next, and in most cases everyone just follows up.
That, and your best practice is to not try to go hand-to-hand inside an outpost or a large group of enemies-- run away and try to plink them from a distance, or just run and dive for cover. Odds are one of the randoms will very sensibly throw some sort of stratagem at those kinds of targets if you haven't already, and you being in the middle is either bad luck or a skill issue.

And if in doubt, just swan dive and hope for the best.

Took part in the renewed offesive to retake malevalon creek. I think the hard part is the strategem randomizer, were you type in a code and it sometimes chooses one of your others ones for you. The amount of friendly fire and suicide, not to mention being underequipped for a fight because no one wants to risk it for support weapons makes the automatons so much worse.

Popli is Robot Afganistan, right? I think difference is that Popli doesn't have constant darkness.

I have found my favorite weapon/weapon I am not to be trusted with.

The Flamethrower. I took out so many bugs, and killed myself so many times with it.

Cracked and bought the game yesterday, tried out a bit of it today when I got my work done. Have only just played a bit solo, gotta say I loled when I died during extraction only for them to send another HellDiver in anyways. Like, if the missions done, why bother? Someone real anal for procedure?
"Look, I don't care what the situation on the ground is. The manual says when the current Helldiver dies, we send in another one! Now let me do my job for Democracies sake!"

Got some potential democracy co-operator lined up on discord this Saturday, hoping for some real fun there.

Honestly I interpret it as trying to get more footage of Helldivers heroically extracting safe and sound from yet another daring operation. Helldivers are invincible heroes, after all, they can't die.

My thought was that there's just a contextless metric SEAF tracks for how many helldivers successfully extracted, and obviously the higher that number is the better it is.

I like to think it's essentially a bureaucratic problem. The mission is only completed succesfully when the Helldivers extract so we need to extract them properly.

Any additional casualties are just more dead heroes giving their lives for Super Earth and for Managed Democracy.

You don't actually need to extract to complete a mission - if you wipe out (because there are no more reinforces left, or none can be sent because the superdestroyer left lower orbit), the mission is still a success, you just won't get the bonus for extracted helldivers (and miss out on samples obviously, which hurts more than missing a bit of XP and reosurces).

They want the samples that might be on your predecessor's bodies.

It's interesting to see them testing out different types of major orders in real time. Instead of throttling us like on Veld they essentially just told us where to go this time. Now we just have to hold the planets when the timer expires.

I'm excited for the inevitable push back from the bugs. That and the inevitable moment when the Automotons reach Cyberstan.

Either way, until I'm called for the defense I'm going to hang out on Robot-Vietnam. It's been a blast killing bots while humming Fortunate Son.

IMO the orbital HE barrage is just not very good. It's not quick enough to be convenient or dense enough to provide effective suppression.

Also I just went through a mission with some goon who had a remarkable talent for dropping orbital and airstrikes right on top of me.

Got my first bile titan kill mission last night. Killed both solo using walking barrages. Very content with that performance.

Buddy told me to buy this and I'm not well so have the time...THEREFORE I AM PROUD TO SAY I CAN STILL DO MY PART FOR MANAGED DEMOCRACY!

Also I love the MG, used the railgun a few times but hip firing an MG remains just so much fun.

MG is fun, too bad it starts to love effective at higher difficulty levels where you start needing anti-armour capability more.

Autocannon is also fun if you got a team mate ready to feed new mags, we held of a massive bug swarm with my brother with him acting as a gunner and me as reloader. In general, two-man weapons are massively powerful if there is a second person ready to assist.
