The Necromancer in Shadow (The Eminence in Shadow fanfic)

Chapter 135: Banishment
Chapter 135: Banishment

Whoa! Dodged that laser beam! That was close… Not!

Ohh! Magic bullets? It didn't track and follow me like the Necromancer's magic projectiles though. Instead this monster just shoots more of them when they fail to hit me.

Also the constant reliance on the ring of light for defence and simple predictable moves when dodging my attacks, which makes it unable to respond properly to feints... Man, this is reminding me of the earlier undead minions I fought… they were like video game enemies, merely move following simple AI and predictable movesets. And the Necromancer said it's more dangero—

Oh? I see the Necromancer facing several skeletal hands coming out of portals trying to capture him. That monster is truly obsessed with him, isn't it? That's why it focuses its full effort on him rather than me. Did he pissed that monster somehow? I'd like to watch but at this rate I won't get much more action than this! I need to help hi—

*BWOOOSH*

Whoa! Whoa! Calm down with the laser beam while I'm thinking, will you?

Luckily I'm already used to its attack pattern so I can dodge that attack without focusing as much as before. That's why this battle has become boring. Time to end this little game.

"NOCTURNAL BIRDCAGE!!" I sent out wires made out of slime to capture the skull head and tighten the grip, causing the skull to crack and eventually gets destroyed, whereupon I proceeded to destroy it completely with an I Am Atomic attack.

"Now let's deal with the res--" My words are cut because I had to dodge a scythe coming out of a portal. I've seen that scythe vaporize the Necromancer's barrier so they are no joke.

Oh? Several portals opened and laser beams came out of them, aiming at me. Reminds me that I didn't get to play with Don Jon's laser traps in his vault because of that bald guy. What was his name again? Not important. What's important right now is that I can finally play with the laser beams!

"Ha ha ha ha! Now that's more like it!" I dodge the streams of laser beams coming from several directions like what they did in those spy films, except I'm midair. I twist and turn my body in order to dodge the barrage of laser beams. With how I trained my body to become as flexible as possible, I could pass through the even the narrowest opening in the laser beams. I could become a contortionist with this body.

Is this the third phase? I wonder how long will it take for me to crack your moveset?

Oh? The Necromancer seems to be doing some kind of magic tug of war with the monster beyond the portal. Are they absorbing each other's magic or something? At first the monster wins by a large margin but now that the Necromancer had his staff assist him, he's now winning.

Looks like my assistance is unnecessary, as expected of my nemesis.

"SCREEEEEEECH!!!!" Ohh… The Nazgul screech again. The monster is angry.

*BOOOOM*

Oh? It feels like the… space around us is… shaking? That's the only way I can describe the chaos and shaking I'm currently feeling.

I'm shaking like I'm in an earthquake even though I'm in midair! How crazy is that?

The quake broke the tug of war between my nemesis and the monster that he gracefully dubbed Thanatos.

So it turns out that the monster wasn't Satan after all. Where is he then?

Is that monster trying to breach the dimension to forcefully enter this world? That's actually dangerous even for me. I'd take chaos and destruction any day but not when it could possibly destroy this world, which is where I keep my money and where I play as the Eminence in Shadow.

"Nemesis! Hold him back, will you?" And my nemesis agreed and I simply grin in response. You don't have to tell me twice! I create a pair of black wings from my slime coat and infused them with I Am Atomic magic and…

"I AM ATOMIC RAIN!!!" I shoot the feathers from the wings, each of which contain Atomic magic, towards the portals and let them explode. Some of the portals even closed after I shoot them. I tried to unleash as much magic as the Necromancer's Apocalypse. If I unleashed them to the ground, it would become… still Grand Canyon? But with deeper holes and craters?

I bet that hurts, eh? I think so, because I can feel the monster's terrifying killing intent on me. Heh heh heh. How thrilling. Bring it on!

While the Necromancer is charging his spell, I faced the monster's wrath head on, dodging not only the laser beams coming out of those portals but also the skeletal hands and gigantic scythes, occasionally sending more feathers to destroy the scythes and skeletal hands to reduce the amount of things I had to dodge.

Hopefully this doesn't take long! The quake in space is making it harder to dodge the barrage of attacks!

"Oof!" I grunted as a laser beam created a hole in my stomach again. Damn space quake. Luckily I am better at healing magic now so I can heal many more holes and even lost limb. Losing my head is another story though. Maybe I need that healing factor/regeneration like those vampires. It'll be cool to let enemies think they've won by decapitating me, only for me to reattach my head. Yes. That's certainly cool... but I must be careful in how I develop the regeneration magic.

As I was contemplating on regeneration magic, another hole is made in my stomach by the laser beams. Oof. Will I have stomach ache after healing it? I hope not. I must not let my thoughts distract me and I must also focus on the task at hand. Now, let me return the favour, beastie. I Am Atomic Rain!!!

I devoured quite a bit of Thanatos' soul and he devoured a bit of mine in return. Both of our souls are damaged as a result but I cannot falter now! I must end this before my soul wound overwhelms me in front of so many enemies! I also cannot heal my soul by digesting the soul I just devoured yet or I'll be overwhelmed by unfiltered memories and would lose focus. His soul is one that I fully intend to integrate into mine and thus I will not filter it, no matter how painful the integration process might be.

As I am preparing a spell to close both the portals opened by Thanatos and the Black Rose in order to prevent Thanatos from breaching the barrier between dimensions and enter this realm with his full body, Shadow aided me in distracting the creature so I won't be interrupted.

My nemesis is truly a reliable partner. If he is an evil villain like me… we could work together, scheme together… mostly against each other, and only joining forces when facing common enemies like this one… so perhaps not much difference from what we're doing right now. Villains rarely get along. The Rounds are prime example of that.

"Shadow!" No. 001 shouts, disagreeing with her master's decision to support me. Unlike her master she is so unreliable and defiant. I have only myself to blame though, heh heh heh.

"Stand down, No. 001. Your master has made his decision to cooperate with me because he simply knows better than you. Be a good dog and obey his will. Surely you wouldn't want to make things worse for all of us again?" She simply glared in response to my words. Seriously, even my Seven Wraiths, minions that I control purely using fear, are far more obedient. And they contain unstable individuals like the late Carmilla! I feel like my minions are winning in some aspects. I need to have them fight the Seven Shades soon. Heh heh heh.

"Fine then. But that doesn't mean I can't do this." She said as she placed the tip of her sword on my back again, once again aiming for my heart. "Once you're done with your spell, I will kill you." She said, most likely with a sadistic grin that I wish I could see.

"Heh heh heh. You're certainly welcome to try, No. 001." I said fearlessly as I continued weaving my spell. Soon enough, the space quake stops and the portals began closing one by one. Thanatos resists with all his might by attempting to breach the dimensions further but I don't allow him. His brute force method is simply no match to my mastery of space magic.

Eventually the portals close and I began facing the Black Rose, which is still shining in the sky and still spawning random monsters who fled the place the moment they spawn.

As I was about to close it though… I sensed that the 4th realm is currently connected to another realm… a realm which is familiar to me… a realm where I came from…

Huh…? Where… did I… come from?

Arrgh… Of course I came from Earth. Looks like Thanatos devoured the memory of Earth when he sucked my soul. Luckily the memories exist in the brain as well, like a backup in case the soul lost it. I've lost almost half of my memories of the old world during my reincarnation and I won't let myself lose more. Even if the memories aren't that precious or significant, it still defines who I am and makes me different from Thanatos, who has lost everything.

*BOOOOM*

Ugh. I feel Thanatos trying to breach the dimensional barriers once again. I must close the Black Rose for now. I have the coordinate of the 4th realm and its orbit for the next few months so I can pay a visit later in order to cross into my old world for a vacation of sorts, and perhaps it will help me regain some of my lost memories.

Closing the Black Rose is easier than closing the portals opened by Thanatos. Looks like I've underestimated my own space magic capabilities. To think that the magic I developed is actually far more advanced than the hundred years of research done by Cult scientists… Ohh, how the Cult have stagnated due to infighting and facing no external threat for centuries. Well… at least those impotent rats provide good stepping stone for me. Heh heh heh.

After the Black Rose is closed, the sky returns to normal again and stars became visible in the cloudless night sky. It is at this moment that I feel No. 001 plunge her blade into my back, piercing my heart.

"Farewell… my worst nightmare." She whispered.

"Heh… So eager to say goodbye, are you, my dear Experiment No. 001?" I said with clear voice, undisturbed by the blade which pierced my heart.

"What!?"

"You think you can kill me with a simple stab in the heart? Did you think I'm a vampire? You underestimate me greatly, No. 001." I said as I snap my fingers, causing her slime suit to form spikes inwards, piercing her body on multiple places similar to what I've done to the Shadow Garden minions I killed before facing them. They may be able to resist this spell before but now that she's at point blank range, there's no way she can wrestle control of her slime suit from my necromancy.

"Aghh…" She moaned painfully as I turn back to watch the face she's making. Ohh how sweet her face is when it is twisted in agony as she drops to the ground.

"Do not worry. I intentionally avoided your vital parts. You are still my precious experimental subject after all. But you've been absent from my lab for long enough. Now it is time to return." I said as I reach out to her slowly and ominously.

"Sha…. dow…" She mumbled her master's name and coughs up blood.

But before I can take her with me, she is whisked away by Shadow himself, who now held her in his arms in a princess carry. Shadow also healed her wounds immediately, prioritizing her life before his own because he clearly ignored his own wounds, including those holes in his stomach.

"Shadow… I'm… sor…"

"Say no more, Alpha. Rest now." He said as he laid her to the ground and turns to face me.

"Now then. Shall we continue, nemesis?" He said with a grin. So eager to face me again, eh? Unfortunately, I am not in the condition to face him so I have to… give him a little surprise.

"Eager, aren't you, nemesis? But neither of us is in any condition to fight seriously. Instead, let's see if you can escape this!" I declared as I opened a portal to the 4th realm behind him. He didn't even resist and merely grinned as he allowed himself to be sucked by the portal and disappear.

Heh heh heh. I know that grin. This is certainly not going to be the last time I'll see him. I wonder if he will escape by mastering space magic or through brute force like what Thanatos did? I look forward to see what he will do.

"What… did you do…?" No. 001 asked with a horrified expression. Yes… that face. Heh heh heh.

"I banished him to another realm. It's up to him whether he could escape or not. But as long as he hasn't… I shall reign supreme."

Author's Note:

I didn't intend to do this at first but all those Jujutsu Kaisen comments (from Fanfiction.net) and the Requiem for Scattered Shadows makes me decide to do this. How will Shadow Garden survive without their master? Find out in the next episode of The Not Shibuya Incident in Shadows.

Chapter 136: I’m Simply… Evil
Chapter 136: I'm Simply… Evil

Shadow… is gone…

Necromancer banished him to… another realm… And I was helpless to stop him.

"Do not worry. You still have a master to pledge your allegiance to, me." I heard him spouting nonsense in his demonic voice.

"What nonsense are you saying…?"

"Remember that before you are Alpha of Shadow Garden, you were MY No.001 first. And as I said before, you've been absent from my lab for long enough. It's time for you to return."

I tried to stand up and resist again, even if I have to die… but he used his sickening magic to control my slime suit again and have it bind my limbs… rendering me helpless to stop him.

"Lady Alpha!" I heard Gamma shouting my name. The rest of the Seven Shades is here, all drawing their respective weapons and are ready for combat… even though they can't stop trembling. We're all helpless against him! Run!

"While we're at it why don't I add the rest of you to my—Aghh…. ARRRGHHH!!!" Suddenly he drops down to his knees and clutches his head as if in pain. His magic control also seems to falter, almost as if he's experiencing Demonic Possession. While I'm happy to see him suffer, what's going on?

"I… am… myself…! You will not… take control…! Ha ha ha ha! HA HA HA HA!!!" He mumbled something incomprehensible before laughing ominously… But even in that condition his control over my slime suit didn't falter. The pressure he exudes with his magic is also still terrifying.

Anyway, I can't let Shadow Garden suffer more casualties today.

"Leave me and run!"

"But Lady Alpha!" Epsilon was about to interject, but…

"Just do as I say! We can't let Shadow Garden suffer more defeats this day!"

"But…" Gamma still hesitates.

"Let's go. We must regroup and fight another day." Zeta said with stern voice.

"But we can't abandon her!" Beta shouted.

"Hurry! Before he recovers!" I shouted once again. But it's too late.

"No need. I have already recovered." The monster stood up, still clutching his head.

"Anyone wants to join her can take a step forward." He taunts without dignifying them by facing them, letting them see his exposed back, still daring the Shades despite being weakened. None of the Shades dared to take a step forward despite that, especially after seeing his power firsthand… and with the knowledge that Shadow is not here to help us… Well… everyone except Delta.

"Give him back… Give boss, back!!!" Delta charges forward furiously and aim her claws at him, only to be blocked by his barrier, producing a loud clanging sound.

"Hyaaagh!!" Delta grunted as he used his magic to slam her to the ground without actually touching her with his gloved hands. I don't want to know what happens if he actually touches her.

"Delta! No!" Beta shouts.

"Doggy! Now is not the time!" Zeta also shouts, but hesitates to take a step forward due to Necromancer's threat.

The monster approaches Delta, who continued glaring at him furiously with tears in her eyes.

"Delta! Run!!" I shout once again, in vain hope that she would listen… but she didn't move… and so does Necromancer.

"Char…" Hm? He whispered something, though my elven ears were able to hear them. What is he saying? Surprisingly he turns around and walks back to me.

"Heh heh heh… Mwa ha ha ha ha ha!!" he laughed again like a madman. What could've gone through his twisted mind? What does he find so funny that he laughs again?

"Out of respect for your master's aid, I shall leave the rest of you alone. Now come, No. 001." He says as he teleported both of us away… only the two of us.

How… uncharacteristic of him to--

I returned to the castle after passing through the chaotic capital city in the company of the Acolyte, the beastkin Adra and the undead Mordred. Even though the Black Rose has been closed, the monsters that have been summoned remains. Necromancer's undead minions held back the monsters currently rampaging around the capital city but the Acolyte said this kindness won't continue forever and won't extend to the rest of the kingdom if I don't accept their master's terms, which he will present once he arrive.

And arrive he did through teleportation magic, with Lady Alpha in tow, which surprises me greatly… though considering the amount of destruction he brought to the wilderness north of town, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. He must've defeated that huge monster and Shadow as well if he was even able to take Lady Alpha, who is Shadow's second in command, as a prisoner of war. She's bound by her own slime suit, ensuring that she's helpless before Necromancer. I didn't dare look at her in the eye after everything I've done.

We now stand in the throne room, accompanied by the only remaining nobles (Marquis Grantz included) and officials that I can trust (though barely) and my royal guards, all of which are worried about the monsters and undead fighting outside and the presence of a mighty being, whose mere presence shook us all to the core. Even the nobles and officials who are not well versed in magic can feel his magic acutely as if they've been Spellswords all their lives, judging from how much they're trembling. Some of them even pissed in their pants.

I stood in front of the throne whilst eyeing him as he walked closer and closer. The closer he gets, the more nervous I become… though… thinking of how he manipulated my father… and probably me as well…

"Good to see you, Queen Rose." Before I know it, he already stood in front of me, staring at me with his glowing red eyes.

"Finally we meet… Necromancer… or should I say… Phantom of the Opera?" I remain defiant and glare at him in return, though he only find my defiance amusing instead of intimidating.

"Took you long enough to realize that, my queen. Heh heh heh." He mockingly called me "my queen" like he did as the Phantom of the Opera.

"Why did you… do it?"

"Why did I do what? You have to be more specific, queen. I have done so many things after all."

I unsheathe my blade and points it at him in rage "Everything! From manipulating my father and my kingdom… to me as well!!"

"Heh heh heh. What can I say? I am simply… evil."

Author's Note: I recommend listening to "The King of Villains/When I Said I Was Evil" by Aurelio Voltaire in this scene.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf48ftYhTOs&ab_channel=AurelioVoltaire-Topic

"Evil…? That's all the reason you…"

"Yes! I am evil! That's a fact! Because I'm evil, I turned your father into an obedient puppet using hypnosis, replacing Perv Asshat's crude method of drugging him! Because I'm evil, I made your father kill King Klaus of Midgar in order to spark the flames of war between Oriana and Midgar! I even prevented Shadow from saving him! Because I'm evil, I killed your father and replaced his hypnosis with necromancy once he started defying me, ensuring that he remains my puppet even in death!" What….? He killed my father…? Then… the one who talked to me back then was…

"Because I'm evil, I had your undead father rouse the military of Oriana into civil war so I can collect more corpses and souls! Because I'm evil, I assumed the role of the Phantom of the Opera in order to deceive you into betraying Shadow Garden! I even used your father's corpse to convince you! Because I'm evil, I gave you the key to the Black Rose!" I grit my teeth and tighten my grip on my sword as he kept listing his own crimes against me and Oriana proudly as if announcing his achievements, with the simple reason of him being evil. How come such evil is allowed to exist? Oh goddess…!

"And even with all of that, I'm still proud to share my gloriously evil accomplishments in this kingdom with you." He said as he pointed his fingers to me.

"What nonsense are you spouting!?"

"You played the role of the tyrant very well even though you haven't received your coronation ceremony yet. Look at all those severed heads of your political rivals that now decorates the road to your castle! It's beautiful! I never told you to do all that! You did it yourself!" I hate that he's… correct. I thought I had to be strong in order to maintain control over my crumbling kingdom… But it cannot be denied that I'm responsible for the deaths of many and terrorized the rest. The nobles started whispering amongst each other when they heard that.

"Also, I only gave you the key to the Black Rose… but I never told you to use it. I never influenced you with any hypnosis. The one who opened the Black Rose and allowed the monsters currently rampaging outside to ravage the kingdom… is you." When he said that, all eyes are on me. And I can't even deny it. I did all of that… because I believed in his lies…

"I-It's because you deceived me!"

"Because I'm evil, I lied to you about many things… but I never lied to you about the Black Rose. When I handed the key to you, I was completely honest with you. You knew the risks and still chose to use it out of your own free will."

"But you never told me that it would summon hordes of monsters!"

"You never asked. If only you were a bit smarter and actually pay attention to such a crucial detail. Heh heh heh."

"You… You…" I dropped to my knees in despair, tears falling across my cheeks. It was perfect. I had been played all this time. The one scheming to take over Oriana through manipulation is not Shadow… but him. Using the only person I can trust, which is my father, only made his stories more convincing. And I not only deserted Shadow Garden… I even defied Shadow himself by unleashing the Black Rose against him. And he still saved me even after I did that. How pathetic of me… to betray the one who saved my life thrice. Where is he now? Is he okay? I have no idea. And it's all my fault.

Things would've been fine if I didn't use the Black Rose. It was me who brought us all into such a desperate situation. It was me who brought the end of Oriana.

I'm such a failure… Father… I'm a failure, both as a princess and as your daughter. Instead of fixing things, I made things worse.

I heard his footsteps… and drops to a knee in order to speak his words directly to my ears, like the whispers of a devil. "Now then. Now that we're done talking about my great evil deeds, let's talk about business shall we?"

"What… do you want…?"

"I'm offering you salvation from the monster problem you caused… and even aid for the upcoming war. In exchange for you and your entire kingdom to swear fealty to me and me alone."

"You mean for us to join the Cult?"

"Oh no no no. You misunderstood even though I made it very clear. I said swear fealty to me! Not to the cult of losers who constantly spread measly diseases like the pests that they are! Not to the Rounds rats who only know how to hide in their cesspool! Swear fealty to ME!!"

"What do you want… with my kingdom? You've already ruined it so much!"

"What a silly question. I told you that I'm evil, didn't I?" Of course. He's evil and proud of it. Do I have any choice other than accepting this offer?

"What happens if I refuse? Will you destroy us all with your terrifying magic?"

"I'll do nothing."

"Nothing? Why?"

"Because I don't need to lift a finger. I'll let the monsters do the destroying for me. Heh heh heh." Of course he will watch with great satisfaction as the monsters destroy my kingdom.

"Will you be the king of Oriana then?"

"Oh no. I am already a king. A king of death. You will remain queen of this ruined kingdom. But both you and this kingdom will serve and obey me. Now choose."

I gave myself some time to think. Is it worth it to become his slave for salvation? Will the people of Oriana be grateful for this salvation? Or will they think death is preferable?

I looked at the expressions of everyone present while thinking. Marquis Grantz and the nobles from his faction who came to the capital to attend my upcoming coronation in hopes of peace talks… are frowning in disappointment. I have betrayed their expectations after all. The rest of the nobles may act horrified but I know they are fine with serving anyone as long as they can keep their titles and privileges. The royal guards… are tempted by Necromancer's power and thus, from the barely concealed grins they made, they are already considering, if not outright deciding, to serve Necromancer regardless of my wishes.

I also glanced at Necromancer's minions and… Lady Alpha. Lady Alpha merely observed with an expressionless face. I cannot read the Acolyte's expression due to them wearing a mask. Adra remained indifferent to everything as if he didn't hear what his master just said. Mordred… just smirked as if enjoying my suffering. If I recall from my father's journal, the Cult blackmailed the royal family using the Black Rose in the past too. My fate would've similar or worse than Clara's if not for my father's bravery and defiance… whereas I...

In the end… I could not think of any other way to save my kingdom. Shadow Garden will not help me now that I've betrayed them, leading to the capture of one of their leaders. Our former ally Midgar is currently our enemy and if the monsters didn't destroy my kingdom, they will. No other kingdom would help us, not when Necromancer's scheme perfectly alienated us from the international stage. The Church is the right hand of the Cult, which has always been our enemy and I refuse to make a deal with them again. Necromancer is one of them… though he seems to have his own agenda if Mordred's death is any indication.

But… I fear that making deals with him will be much worse than dealing with the Cult. At least the Cult didn't demand servitude when they offered to close the Black Rose in the past. All they ask is monetary tribute, the defanging of Oriana's military and the royal blood to serve as their experimental subject. Necromancer however is brazen enough to show up in public and not only freely and proudly admit his crimes, he even demanded our servitude. That's how powerful and terrifying he is.

"Well? What is your answer, queen?"

"Will… the people of Oriana live freely and peacefully under your rule?"

"Yes yes… they will live peacefully. As peaceful as I defined it."

"And how do you… define peace?"

"Look at the Lawless City for the answer."

"You… want to turn Oriana into something like… the Lawless City!?"

"Or a kingdom of death inhabited by only the undead if I so wishes. Which means all depends on my whims."

"Whims!? The fate of an entire kingdom… based on your whims!?"

"Yes. I'm evil, remember? I certainly will not be kind toward you all. I've never been. Your best hope is to obey me to the letter and never even think of defying me."

"How do you expect me to accept your offer, then? If there's no benefit for us?"

"Benefit? I offered you salvation from your own mess and you have the gall to demand more? How greedy are you Tyrant Queen, Rose Oriana?"

"Greedy!? Isn't it you who are greedy!? Demanding an entire kingdom to serve you!?"

"Yes I am! But are you in the position to be making such demands here? The monsters are currently ravaging the country as we speak. And my time is also limited. Many things to research. I've even obtained a new test subject." He said while glancing at Lady Alpha, who remained expressionless, hiding her true feelings from everyone.

"Think of it this way. The monsters will not hesitate to destroy everything you hold dear. I, on the other hand, may or may not destroy everything you hold dear. Easy choice, wouldn't you think?" Easy for you to say when you're not the one in the position to lose no matter what you choose!

"Choose wisely and make it quick. I'm a busy villain." I have to make my decision here and now… Not like I have a choice in the matter. I'm sorry my people…

"Fine… I accept your terms, Necromancer." I said as I kneeled before the monster.

"From now on, I, Rose Oriana, and all of Oriana kingdom… shall serve you. Please… save us from the monsters…" With that declaration, the royal guards eagerly joined me in bowing, followed by the spineless nobles. Marquis Grantz and his faction paused for a second but joined us all in bowing.

"Wise choice, my tyrannical queen. From now on, Oriana will be…" He said as he snapped his fingers, which summons rows of armoured undead soldiers which stood in between the red carpet leading to the throne, all carrying spears with modified Oriana banner, where a skull is added on top of the Rose symbol of Oriana's banner, symbolizing Oriana's takeover. "…under the management of the Necromancer."

He finished by sitting on the throne… my father's throne… my throne. The undead soldiers thumps the floor with their spears ceremoniously.

"And this shall be my first order. Prepare for war against Midgar."

And so Oriana kingdom, after suffering a brief but devastating civil war, is reunited, not under my banner… But under the banner of Necromancer.

Author's Note:

Oriana is now officially under the rule of the Necromancer. Yes, the King of Villains/When I Said I Was Evil song I suggested is in reference to Jujutsu Kaisen's SPECIALZ moment in season 2, just like Shadow's banishment is a reference to that anime as well.

Chapter 137: Oriana Takeover
Chapter 137: Oriana Takeover

We have completed another one of Claude's objective, which is taking over Oriana. Even Shadow Garden were unable to stop him, as evidenced by the capture of Alpha, the one he referred to as No. 001, his very first test subject when he just started walking the path of evil for the sake of power.

He made a grand speech, taking all the blame and proclaiming himself as an evil lord and forced Rose Oriana to her knees. At times I wondered if all these evil deeds are necessary… that he went too far… But then I remembered that Shadow is still out there. Claude haven't killed him, only banished him to another realm. With how powerful Shadow is, we both know that he won't stay banished forever. He won't leave… not until we kill him. Not to mention the Cult remains as well. Claude's Rounds Civil War plan has only just begun.

One day… one day he shall die. We'll make sure of it.

But Claude… I noticed your failing magic control. The battle against Shadow and that monster took its toll on you, hasn't it? That's why you're forced to banish Shadow after you're done with that monster. Have you injured your soul again? Please… don't push yourself too far. I need you…

I need you I need you

I need you I need you

I need you I need you

I need you I need you

I need you I need you

I need you I need you

I need you I need you

I NEED YOU!!!!

….

Claude left the throne room and I was about to follow him… but stopped when I heard Rose's cries.

"Cid…. Ohh… Cid… I miss you…. I miss those days at the school…! Please… take me back there…! To those happy days…!" She said Cid's name as she cried on the floor.

Her words… hit too close to home. I too miss the days at the school… I miss Cid too. I miss the simple days when we don't have to scheme and be evil… when we can just… relax and enjoy a carefree life… when father was there and when Claude was… kinder.

"Apprentice. Follow." Claude called out to me. Ohh… I'm getting distracted by the old memories.

"Y-Yes, master!" I said as I followed Claude, who brought Alpha with him. Adra followed us closely behind. I can feel Alpha's gaze on me even though she merely gave me a side eye. She is observing me whilst not letting me get a read on her emotions. I'm lucky that I have this mask or I may slip up and behaved unlike what I'm expected to as Claude's … as the Necromancer's apprentice. I need to watch my body language as well, just like how Claude taught me.

I observed Adra's reaction towards Claude's proclamation… but he didn't show much reaction. I expected him to be more displeased considering he's not exactly loyal to Claude and is… still too naïve to tolerate all the evil things we do. Is he hiding his true feelings?

No matter. After witnessing Claude's awesome power, he wouldn't dare scheme against us.

If he still does, I'll kill him myself.

After everything is done… I hope we can return to those happy days... where we no longer need to wear masks… where I can be together with Claude. But there is one obstacle to that…

Iris Midgar!

I know it's part of his plans but… I can't stand the fact that she actually gets to marry him. What to do? Hmm…

"A few cities and fortresses have been taken by the Thirteen Night Blades faction through simultaneous surprise attacks in such a short amount of time!"

"Where did they get so many men!?"

"Did they hire mercenaries from Lawless City!?"

"We must investigate their family's funds! Find out where the cash flows and cut them off!"

"Where is Lord Claude!?"

"Lord Claude hasn't returned!?"

"Where did he go!? At such a crucial time!"

A war meeting is commencing in Midgar's royal castle, with Iris, Alexia and several nobles (Including Duke Normann, Claude's father), officials and knights mainly loyal to Claude's faction in attendance as they discuss the civil war that has officially started in Midgar.

"Do you think the Thirteen Night Blades got him!?"

"Impossible! He was so strong!"

"Just when he's gone, the Thirteen Night Blades launched their attacks! I believe it's not a coincidence! Your Highness, Princess Iris! Please tell us! Where is Lord Claude!?"

One of the nobles addressed Iris and all eyes immediately turned to her… except Alexia's whose eyes are looking downwards.

After a brief pause, Iris decided that they cannot hide it anymore.

"Claude Normann… has been captured by the Thirteen Night Blades… after trying to rescue my sister." She replied, which caused an uproar.

"What!?"

"What a disaster! If we lose our leader now, we'll have a hard time fighting the Thirteen Night Blades' faction!"

"We must make sure his rescue is our top priority! No matter what cost we must pay!"

Iris expected such reaction… but it still hurts her that they have so little faith in her that they didn't even consider putting her on leadership position, even temporarily, to face the current civil war. To be honest even she had doubts about her own adequacy be it as a leader or as a Spellsword so she agreed with them.

As the nobles are brainstorming about how to deal with the civil war, Alexia's thoughts are occupied by only one thing… Cid Kagenou.

She invited Cid and Christina to the royal castle in order to protect them from the Thirteen Night Blades. Christina is still fine… but Cid went missing few days ago. Nobody knows where he is and nobody saw him after lunch. It's as if he vanished into thin air.

The fact that her beloved Cid vanished inside the castle walls meant to her that the castle isn't safe, that there are traitors amongst the castle staff but she didn't know who… and thus she didn't know whom to trust… but most importantly, she blamed herself for this entire mess. It was her fault that Cid was kidnapped the first time, which resulted in Claude being captured. Then once again it's her fault that he vanished again while he is within the castle.

How am I supposed to face his sister now that I've brought him to danger once more…

"Excuse me! Urgent report from the borders with Oriana!" A knight shouted as he barged into the meeting room, attracting everyone's attention.

"Proceed with the report." Iris ordered and the knight opened the parchment containing the report in order to read it.

"Our scouts at the Oriana front reported sighting of black monsters rampaging the countryside before being subdued by undead soldiers. Said undead soldiers are now stationed in the border and in every Oriana settlement. They also reported that Oriana started flying a different banner… which is similar to their original banner except… with a skull on top of the rose in Oriana Emblem." Everyone in the meeting room paled when they heard the report. They know what it implies.

"That monster… Necromancer… has taken over Oriana!?"

"And our own civil war has only just begun too!?"

"What in the world!?"

"All of you be silent!" A stern voice silenced the meeting room. Said voice came from Duke Normann.

"Whether Necromancer has taken over Oriana or not, nothing has changed. He has always been our enemy. The fact that he chose to take over Oriana and not Midgar even though he is more active in here means that he is not strong enough to take over our kingdom. Even if he has joined forces with another enemy, we should not be afraid of enemies. Do not disrespect the legacy of our ancestors and our founder, King Freya."

"That's right….! Despite everything, we are Midgar Kingdom! We are still strong!"

"Yes! We shall not falter!"

"For Midgar!"

Iris watched with envy as Duke Normann easily raised everyone's morale with a few sentences. Even before her reputation is stained by defeat after defeat, nobody has ever listened to her that easily. Despite being hailed as the hope of Midgar at the time, whenever she says something, there's always someone that interjects and disagrees with various excuses, leading to nobody obeying her words. Nobody ever had faith in her no matter how much she tried. It gnaws at her very being and further lowers her self esteem.

She envied someone as charismatic as Duke Normann, who, despite his uncharismatic appearance, which is that of a fat man, was still able to sway the opinions of his fellow nobles so easily, whereas she, a young, beautiful and powerful princess, never have that much charisma.

She also envied Claude for his own charisma, competence and strength, all of which exceed hers.

How do I become more like you… so I can better support you, Claude…?

My takeover of Oriana is done. I was so proud of that villainous monologue I did before Rose. Take that, Mordred! That's how a real villain does his monologue! Mwa ha ha ha!

I had my undead army stationed in every city and replaced every Oriana banner with the one with the skull to remind everyone who is master. Also, I heard that the civil war in Midgar has finally started just after the one in Oriana has officially ended. The Thirteen Night Blades has finally made their move.

I think I'll let my clone handle that for a while. I also want to lure Fenrir out in the open so I can obtain his part of the hand of Diablos after all.

I've also captured No. 001 but my condition is not yet at my best and so I'm not confident enough to contain her myself, and thus I brought her to one of the remote base instead of my main base so that even if she managed to escape, she won't gain much information from it.

In my current condition, I'll also refrain from experimenting on her. I don't want to display any more weakness before her. I've done so twice right after banishing Shadow, which I covered up with evil laughs, though I probably looked like a mad man that time. How embarrassing.

Of course I noticed the Reaper Squad leering at her when they saw me bringing her in chains, no doubt thinking of raping her. That might've been the evil thing to do but as a villain I have standards. I will not let myself succumb to the level of a hentai villain. She is my experimental subject, not a sex slave. And only I am allowed to experiment on her, which I will do later.

But this pain is also gain. Even though Thanatos' memories tried to overwhelm me through the portion of his soul that I absorbed, I still managed to retain my sense of self despite my damaged soul. But it seems that I need to repair the damages on my soul. And absorbing the souls of others won't be adequate anymore… because their souls are still too incompatible with mine as they are not mine no matter how much I process and purify them. It's like putting a tape over a huge leak in a water container.

What I need is to absorb Thanatos' soul. Only his soul is compatible with mine… because he is… me. He was part of me up until our reincarnation separated us. Where I reincarnated into this world, he reincarnated in the First Realm and was forced to adapt to that alien environment, losing himself in the process and became that monster.

It's still nice that despite being separated from me and mutated beyond recognition, his preferences is still the same as me, hence all the skulls, bones and scythes in his form… and even the color of his magic, green like mine. He could've went the route of Cthulhu and go all tentacles but I guess we prefer necromancy themes even in another world.

I have to make devouring him my priority. With parts of his soul that I've absorbed now properly assimilated to mine, I am now ready to hunt him down. And after losing the path to this world, I know where he will go next based on the memories I lost when he devoured parts of myself.

Yes… we are both going home. To Earth.

Now… I wonder how the legacy of the Occult Killer has grown over there?

I'm excited. Heh heh heh.

Now then… prepare yourself, Japan! The Occult Killer is coming home!

Prepare for some bloody homecoming!

Author's Note:

I know I said I'm going to finish the Jack the Ripper arc first but I end up wanting to do the Japan arc first, so here it is. And Thanatos' identity is finally confirmed. Good job Guest (from Fanfiction.net) who guessed his identity.

Chapter 138: The Savior
Chapter 138: The Savior

There was a boy I feared. After Minoru-kun left this world, he started killing people and become known throughout Japan as the Occult Killer. I don't really know if it's to avenge Minoru-kun's death or something else… but one thing I'm certain of… is that his murders and the rituals he performed on the site of his murders summoned the demonic monsters that is currently ravaging our world. He vanished just as soon as the monsters started appearing.

Our modern weaponry was useless against them. The Japanese government called for reinforcements from their allies, especially the USA, only to be met with silence as even America is struggling against monster attacks of their own. I even heard of them nuking some of their own cities, only to stop when the backlash became too much for them to handle. Other countries, even superpowers such as Russia and China are too busy handling their own monster problem. It seems that the monster attacks have become a worldwide problem. Perhaps not a single country is spared from their wrath. Smaller countries fell immediately one by one, their lands turned to nests for the monsters, forcing humanity closer and closer to extinction.

Facing this imminent extinction, the United Nations gathered their remaining member nations and instead of trying to find a solution to the problem, they started blaming each other and demanded compensations for nothing. Truly, the monsters have revealed humanity's true face.

Despite suffering the most damage due to being the very first country to be attacked by the monsters and having received absolutely no help from allies, Japan survived the monstrous rampage by being the first country to discover and utilize the power of magic, the only power capable of harming and killing the monsters.

Yes… magic, something that used to be mere fairy tale, superstition and fantasy now becomes reality.

Interest in magic and the occult started since Tetsuya-kun's murdering spree and it led to the discovery of actual magic after the monster attacks, which makes not only occultists practicing it, even the government and some independent organizations started funding several researches into magic. My family, the Nishino Zaibatsu, was among the independent organizations and also among the first to discover practical use of magic.

Only after we discovered magic that our allies, the American government especially, started offering military help in exchange for a piece of the pie, even though their aid is no longer needed. After a lot more quarrels and blame games in the UN, those countries eventually discovered magic by themselves. Some countries, like China, did it by shamelessly stealing information, as they've always done long before the monster apocalypse. By then though, Japan's magical research is already one step ahead of them even if we're not united. With our research, we began making people capable of wielding magic to fight against the monsters. We called these people "Awakeners".

Through the contributions of our researchers, my brother included, I became an Awakener, one of the few people capable of wielding magic, and I used said powers to defend the settlement that our family ruled, Messiah, a name taken from Christianity. To match that name, I, the strongest "Knight" of the settlement, was also called the Savior. Being called that is not only embarrassing but also placed unnecessary burdens and expectation upon my shoulders, bigger than the ones I used to carry as a mere actress.

Of course I cannot say that I want no part in it even though my family pretty much threw me to the wolves and made me their propaganda tool without my consent. "It's your duty as the heiress of the Nishino Zaibatsu!" they said. Fucking old men.

The bright thing is… I'm stronger now. I no longer have to worry about kidnappers and serial killers. I could probably even handle Tetsuya-kun should he come for me! It's been three years since then! I'm not afraid anymore! I'm not!

Speaking of Tetsuya-kun, his alter ego, the Occult Killer, has also influenced some like minded serial killers and crazy people into forming the Doomsday Cult, a cult that worships him as a god and sought to eradicate humanity, believing that humanity deserved to be punished.

Their Cult has... unfortunately, grown into a powerful organization, surpassing even the likes of Aum Shinrikyo, thanks to how advanced their magical technology is. They even have the power to tame and control some of the monsters and are using them against the rest of humanity.

They have destroyed several settlements and the rest of us live in fear of being their next target. I personally have encountered them several times but only in minor skirmishes.

"Nishino-san! We're ready to patrol!" One of my subordinates reported to me, breaking me out of my thoughts.

"Good. Let's go." I replied as I left my room, clad in black and red magical full body suit resembling ones worn by superheroes. I must admit that it's kinda embarrassing as the body suit reveals my body curves and attracted the eyes of so many men but after enduring the leers for some time, I got used to it. The body suit is quite practical in combat after all since it's protective (it uses the wearer's magic to protect the body of the wearer so that even bullets won't harm the wearer), light and flexible.

I carried my etherite katana, a weapon manufactured by our scientists to be harder than steel and capable of conducting magic, perfect weapon for an Awakener like me. My squad members, numbering 5 people of both men and women, are wearing the same body suit as I am and carried katanas of their own. 2 of them even carried naginatas. We would've used more modern weapons like magical guns but unfortunately magic disperses quickly in the air without proper conductor and thus we had to resort to using melee weapons. Luckily we are strong enough to match most of the monsters despite that.

We left the gate of Messiah and started our patrol through the ruined town of what was once a wonderful city. Our mission is simple; cull the number of the monsters by killing as many as we can so that their numbers won't grow too quickly and overwhelms us. It is impossible to exterminate them all because their nests are too well protected and the casualties we'll suffer from it would be too great even if we succeeded in destroying just one nest. And even if we destroyed a nest, other species/colony would just take over the nest in no time at all whilst we would need a lot of time to recuperate from our losses. In other words, not worth the effort.

Without me noticing, my feet took me to Sakurazaka High School, my former school. It seems that reminiscing the past has made me come here. Minoru-kun…

"Nishino-san. Is there something wrong?"

"Nothing. Let's continue our patrol." I said as I turned away from the ruins of my former school, where I met the boy whom I would later have feelings for… and the boy who would invade my nightmares almost every night.

We dispatched several monsters on our patrol and went back home before it gets dark.

"Good work today, Nishino-san!"

"You too!"

I exchanged words with my squad members before returning to my room to take a bath.

But before I could even take off my body suit, there's a knock on my door. I sighed before letting whoever it was in.

"Good evening, sister." It's my brother, Akira Nishino.

"Good evening brother. To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"I'm here to inform you that your schedule tomorrow has changed. You need to attend the meeting with the imperial family in order to forge connections. They're offering you to marry the prince." How ridiculous. Father is the one to refuse to work with the imperial family when the crisis started, which turned Messiah into an independent faction, perhaps even an independent state. And now you want to use me to fix relations with them? I hate politics.

"I refuse. Culling the numbers of the monsters is more important."

"You can't run away forever, sister. This is necessary for the survival of Messiah. As the heiress of the Nishino Zaibatsu--"

"Why don't you be the one to marry one of the imperial princesses and become the heir to not only the Nishino Zaibatsu but even the emperor, brother? You're the older one."

"Hmph. I'm a mere researcher. You however, are something more." You mean I'm your figurehead leader that you can control in the shadows? Someone you can just marry off to forge relation to other families like we're some kind of feudal aristocrats? I know your game, brother. I used to trust you because I thought you're different from our father and those scheming old men in his inner circle but then you betrayed me and made me your propaganda piece. No more.

"I'm just a fighter."

"And the leader of our Knights, the protectors of Messiah."

"Whatever! My answer still sta--"

*BOOOM*

My words are interrupted by an explosion. It's a good thing that I haven't taken off my combat suit which means I can respond to this incident quickly.

"Our talk is not finished, sister. After you're finished--" I didn't even bother hearing the rest of his words as I immediately exited my room to head into the residential district, where the explosion occurred. There I saw a giant monster resembling wolf but with black carapace coating its body instead of fur and with reptile-like tail. Standing above the monster's horned head is a black cloaked figure wearing a white skull mask.

"It's them! It's the Doomsday Cult!"

"Kyaaaah! A monster!"

"Ruuun!"

"Uwaaaahhh!!"

The citizens of Messiah ran away as the monster began rampaging around the settlement.

"Protect the citizens!" I shouted to the Knights who gathered in response to the emergency situation and we began coordinating our attacks to slowly kill the monster.

Slicing the beast's legs bit by bit with our etherite weapons, we eventually disabled one of the beast's legs, only for it to retaliate by attacking us by using its tail as a whip. A few of the Knights are sent flying by the monster's tail. But with one of its legs down, we managed to get closer with the head. I jump towards its head and immediately faced the robed figure with the skull mask.

But as I was about to cut him down, he was stabbed from behind.

"What?" I exclaimed as I landed in front of the robed figure without managing to slash him. Behind him is a man wearing a red bodysuit with helmet that resembles—

"You are…?"

"Glad you asked, Savior! I am Magiranger Red!" The man in red suit shouted as he threw away the cloaked man he just stabbed while striking a pose. 2 more men, one wearing blue body suit and another wearing green bodysuit, appeared beside him. Both striking poses as well.

"And I am Magiranger Blue!"

"I am Magiranger Green!"

"Together we are… MAGIRANGER!!!" They declared as an explosion effect appeared behind them, harming the monster's back, causing it to roar and flail around, forcing us all to jump away from its head.

"What are you doing here!? This area is out of your jurisdiction!" I shouted to the… rangers… Awakeners who turned themselves into Super Sentai (Power Rangers) and are supposed to belong to another faction and thus are not welcome here.

"We came here in response to a monster threat and are here to save you all!" Bullshit. I bet you worked together with that cultist to infiltrate Messiah.

"And we are also here to extend our invitation to you, Savior! Become our pink ranger! Together we shall be the heroes that will save humanity from these monsters!" The red one extends his hand in invitation. Of course many factions wants to poach talents from each other. And even if your faces are hidden by your helmets, I can still sense you three leering at me. How insulting, treating me like a sexual object.

"I refuse."

"Is that so? If you refuse to join us, then have fun defeating the monster on your own." Using threats, eh? But unfortunately for you, it won't work on me.

I enhanced my body using magic and moved quickly to decapitate the monster before it could continue its rampage. I then turned back to the rangers as their body language can't hide how surprised they are.

"As you can see here, we are doing just fine. Your assistance was never required."

"Hmph. Very well. We shall retreat for today. But mark my words! We--"

"You've got some nerve if you think you can just get away after you entered Messiah without permission and tried to poach our talents, scum!" Shouted one of our Knights, a brutish man who used to be one of my classmates, Saejima Yuudai.

"We only have business with the Savior! Not you! But for now, we must--" His words are interrupted as all of us Awakeners sensed a terrifying presence that suddenly appeared in the sky.

All of our attention is turned towards a sky where a black hole emerged. Some people speculated that the monsters currently invading our world came from portals such as that one. Is the presence we felt another monster? Or… something worse?

It's… something worse indeed. I can somehow feel it even though this is the first time I sensed that presence… for the one who emerged from the portal… is a robed figure wearing a skull mask. One might think that this robed figure is just another member of the Doomsday Cult but… I know for sure that he's… the Occult Killer. I know because all the fear and trauma that I thought I have suppressed all those years ago resurfaced immediately when I saw his red glowing eyes staring at me… at all of us.

Tetsuya-kun… please… have mercy…!

Author's Note:

The situation on Earth is different from canon due to the Occult Killer's influence. Akane even wore body suit instead of the high school uniform (which makes no sense as combat uniform in my opinion). Also introduced some factions like the Power Rangers faction and the Doomsday Cult into the mix.

Now… how will our Necromancer fare in his old world? Find out on the next episode of The Rangers in Shadow!

P.S: Aum Shinrikyo is a real terrorist cult who used to launch deadly attacks in Japan back in 1995.

Chapter 139: Return of the Occult Killer

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4xD1-iSICw&ab_channel=Fate%2FGrandOrder-Topic

I passed through the portal and… beheld a scene which is entirely beyond my expectations. I gazed the surroundings and it cleared my doubts that this is Earth… even though it is different from what I know.

How different? Well… for starters, I can feel the magic in the air. Of course, I felt magic since my birth in Midgar but I'm certain that it does not exist on Earth considering none of the magic stuff I tried on Earth worked, though I have a theory on how it happened. Most likely something similar to what happened in the new world, where there used to be no magic until magic flows to that world from another world.

Considering the magic in the air is similar to the magic of the 4th realm, I assume magic flowed to this world from there through an interdimensional disaster of some sort, which also brought monsters from the 4th realm to Earth. And I can see that the humans of Earth managed to wield magic considering I sensed some of them possessing magical powers and was capable of defeating a beast from the 4th realm judging from the decapitated corpse of a beast I saw on the ground down there.

Besides the magic in the air, I also noticed that most of the buildings in the distance are in ruins. It seems that only this particular area is inhabited by humans and is protected from monsters. Walls have been built around it and the main building… which looks like it used to be a university, stood at the center of the walled settlement, likely the headquarters of the faction that protects this settlement.

I gazed upon the people who possess magical powers. All of them wore tight body suits. Even the dead cloaked guy with skull mask wore a body suit underneath. Most of them wear black body suit with red linings. Only three wore different colors, which is red, green and blue. RGB. Heh. The different colors combined with their helmets makes them somewhat resembles Super Sentai (Power Rangers).

"So, another cultist appears! But it makes no difference! We, the Magirangers, shall eliminate you!" Shouted the red ranger in Japanese, a language I haven't heard for more than a decade. How nostalgic. Very well. I'll play with you. Don't disappoint me.

"Hiaaaa!!" The red ranger and his two companions jumped in order to deliver their punches and kicks. With a wave of my hand, I pushed them away, making them fall on the ground.

Seriously? Moving so slow AND shouting whilst attacking? Do you want your enemy to KNOW where you're attacking? Not to mention with bare hands? Who do you think I am!?

"Ughh! He's stronger than I thought! Let's use our weapons!" Ordered the red one. Finally some weapons.

""Right!"" His companions agreed and they brandished the weapons from their hips. The red ranger wields a sword, the green one an axe, and the blue one a lance.

Curious weapons. They have mechanisms that let them be folded so they can be stored in that small bags they have strapped on their hips. Not only that, those weapons seem to conduct magic on a level greater than steel. Still worse than even Mythril though let alone my Orichalcum.

Out of curiosity, I let them strike me with their weapons.

*CLANG*

And naturally they are unable to pierce my natural magic defense even though I didn't even consciously control it. How disappointing.

"Impossible! My weapon is capable of slicing through the hides of beasts!"

"He must be wearing some high end suit!"

"We must defeat him and bring his suit to our headquarters!"

Not learning a single thing from the first strike, they continued to strike me with their weapons, which doesn't harm me even the slightest bit. They can't even leave a scratch on my robes.

"Did you really think you can defeat me with those toys?" I taunted in my demonic voice. They were absolutely stunned.

"What did he say?"

"I dunno. Some kind of foreign language?"

Ah. I see. I was still speaking in the language of the other world. My mistake.

"Try using better weapons next time." I said in my rusty Japanese before waving my hand, sending a shockwave that blew them away.

The Power Rangers were a disappointment. What about the rest of the fighters? Hm? One of them looked like she was about to piss herself. Must've been a coward. I'll ignore that useless and pathetic thing. To be honest, even knights of Midgar, who are mere fodders compared to my reaper Squad and undead minions, were so much better than these fools. Fighting them myself would be unfair. Looking at the corpse of the monster and the Power Rangers made me have an idea though. Heh heh heh.

"Make my monster grow!" I said, channelling my inner Lord Zedd as I aim my staff at the monster corpse and sending a ray of magic at it, causing it to rise back from the dead and by injecting some additional magic to its circuits, I made it grow both in size and power. Now it's as tall as a skyscraper whilst in all fours.

"Holy shit! He actually made a giant monster! Like in the Super Sentai series!"

"What should we do, Captain Red!? We haven't even started making our Zords!"

"Retreat!!" With that they left… even though this monster is for them. They're even more disappointing than I thought. Even the monster I revived seems to be overkill. At this rate this will be nothing but watching someone crushing ants beneath their boots.

Oh well… I'll just let the beast have its fun. For now, I need information. I'll extract information directly from one of them… that cowardly girl will do.

I landed in front of her, which startled her. She can't stop shaking, as if she's seeing a ghost… well… to this world I might be a ghost.

I stared at her eyes and injects my magic into her brain through her eyes. Now… where is the memory pathways…? Oh? Ohhhh….????

Ahh… The masked phantom… landed in front of me. I knew it. He has come to kill me. I knew this day would come… I deceived myself by thinking he is dead or that he has forgotten about me… or even if he came for me… that I could defend myself with my new powers…

But that's all mere fantasies. He is here… and with how terrifying his power is… the power I have might as well be nothing.

Ah! I can feel his magic invading my brain! What does he want!? Ahhh…! I'm too scared to resist!

"Heh heh heh…" He's chuckling… in a demonic voice.

"So we meet again… Akane Nishino." He remembered!!!

"I did say that you're next in that letter, didn't I? However… your current pathetic self is more amusing to me alive than dead. I shall let you live… for now. So go on and struggle to survive in this hellhole of my own making, Akane Nishino." He said as he began walking away towards the rampaging giant monster he let loose in Messiah.

I let out a breath I didn't know I held back…

Why…?

Why did he let me live…?

Because my suffering amuses him…?

Am I nothing but… a toy to him?

I grit my teeth… in frustration… and anger towards him… and towards myself.

All this time I live only to wait my end at his hands… and when he actually came… he left me without killing me. All because my suffering amuses him more than my death.

"You sadistic bastard!!" I punched the ground with all my strength, leaving a fist sized hole on the ground. My tears follows suit, dropping to the ground one by one.

"N-Nishino-san!" One of my squad members called out to me with worried voice… but he was immediately pushed aside by Saejima.

"Move it, weakling!"

"Saejima-san! She's--"

"I ain't asking for your opinions or whatever! I'm telling you scram!" My squad members backed off from the voice of this brute.

"Well now, Savior-sama. Did that big mean cultist scare you? How about I comfort your tonight?" Even in this situation you're still fucking sexually harassing me!?

Instead of replying, I punched him in the face, sending him flying a few steps away.

"Uaghhh!! You bitch! How dare you!" I didn't even turn to look at him as I began walking away towards the rampaging monster with my blade in hand.

Why did he let me go?

Why did he use his magic to invade my mind?

And finally… why did he say my first name before my last name?

I called out to my rampaging giant beast and it came to me like a dog. I float up to stand in its head. I then faced the inhabitants of the ruined settlement to make my declaration.

"I expected more resistance out of this settlement… but I was greatly disappointed. To think that I wasn't given a proper welcome for my return… No matter." I spread both my hands wide and raise my voice. "You worms who hide in this nest called Messiah! Hear my words and despair! I shall return after I destroyed the rest of the settlements of Japan! This settlement shall be the last bastion of humanity! Will you survive? Or will you die like the rest? It is up to you! This is the will of the Occult Killer!"

With that final declaration, I left the settlement on top of the giant monster's head, leaving the citizen of Messiah in despair.

My homecoming seems to be more interesting than I thought. The world has been transformed more than I thought possible… And I certainly didn't expect to meet a familiar face like that. I didn't recognize her at first because my memories of this old world are still fractured… but upon viewing her memories… I recognize her, Akane Nishino, the daughter of the Nishino Zaibatsu who owns my old school, Sakurazaka High School. The settlement of Messiah is built around the area where Nishino University, that they owned as well, stood.

Wait. It's supposed to be Nishino Akane, isn't it? After living for so long in the other world with Europe-like culture, I've forgotten one of the most basic Japanese etiquette. I'm losing my Japanese identity! Oh well… I'm sure she didn't even notice in that situation.

I also noticed that in this world only three years have passed even though I've been dead and living in another world for 17 years. So time passed differently between worlds? Interesting.

They seem to be convinced that I am responsible for bringing the monster apocalypse upon them even though it was a completely natural phenomenon, an interdimensional natural disaster. I have no intention of correcting them obviously as long as it boosts my villainous infamy. Heh heh heh.

Anyway, humanity adapted to magic through various ways, mainly through occult and scientific research. The ones who wielded magic are called Awakeners and Messiah is only one of the factions in Japan alone. The Power Rangers from earlier is from Kyoto's factions. There are other similar factions such as Mahou Shoujo faction from Akihabara and Kamen Rider ones too who move from place to place offering forced protections or destruction on settlements they visit, kinda like vikings. With magic, they were able to live up their fantasies... and also do whatever they wanted with the powers they have. I'd call them cringe but I did that too, and became the villain of my dreams.

Of course not just heroic factions and fake heroes… there are villainous factions as well. The most prominent is of course the ones carrying my legacy, The Doomsday Cult. That guy who wore robes and skull mask was part of this cult too. They are capable of controlling some monsters.

To think that I even created a cult after my death… I am almost amazed by my own villainous prowess. Leaving a long lasting legacy after death is the mark of a true villain indeed.

And returning after death is the mark of an even greater villain. Heh heh heh.

I am happy that my legacy lives on.

My first order of business is definitely to let the world know that the Occult Killer has returned… And then I must observe those villainous factions, see how much villainy they have committed, especially the Doomsday Cult. When you're carrying my name, you're expected to do great evil after all.

And then I shall have fun with the heroes, show them how weak and pathetic they truly are after giving them hope. The final battle of Messiah shall be fun indeed. I look forward to seeing how you shine, Akane Nishino. Will you become the hero that this world needs? Or will you fall before me like everyone else?

You are not Shadow and thus my expectations for you will be extremely low, but try your best to entertain me, won't you?

After all, you're the only one who knows who I truly am. Heh heh heh.

Author's Note:

And so the Occult Killer returns and once again made his mark upon the world.

How will he interact with the rest of the villainous factions? Find out in the next episode of The Emperor of All He Sees in Shadow!

Anyway, as you read in this chapter, there will be more. Mahou Shoujo, Kamen Rider… what else I wonder?

Auxiliary Chapter: The Captive Elf
Auxiliary Chapter: The Captive Elf

It's all my fault. My recklessness caused all these losses. I should've known my place and left when Shadow ordered me to. But I didn't... and it costs me dearly.

I allowed myself to be captured in order to allow the other Shades to escape. Most of them were reluctant to leave but… surprisingly Necromancer took only me. Considering his evil, he should not have missed that chance to capture all seven of us, especially after he just banished Shadow, the only obstacle to his supremacy.

I've taken care of them since Shadow and I found and saved them from Possession. They are my new family and I can't bear having them suffer under Necromancer's hands because of my mistake. It is good that they are spared that fate. Only I should suffer.

At first… I was in despair and so I don't know what to do… and I didn't notice the signs… the oddity in Necromancer's behaviour. I behaved too emotionally during our fight, the same mistake I made all those years ago when I led a team of Numbers to raid one of his tombs, resulting in their deaths. I should've… been more cautious and know when to retreat. Now Shadow is gone and it's all my fault. I suppose my capture is punishment. Whatever horrible fate awaits me from now on… is the result of my failed leadership.

I was teleported to Oriana throne room where 666, the Acolyte, Adra and Oriana nobles, officials and royal guards are waiting. Necromancer wasted no time and proceeded to brag about his evil deeds to 666… to Rose Oriana… and forced her and the entire kingdom into servitude. Such wickedness makes me hate him more… but… I can't deny how perfectly crafted his evil plans are. He toyed with all of us not only in combat but also in schemes as well. Even Shadow struggled to keep up with his schemes considering even he couldn't prevent this when he confronted Rose… resulting in her activating the Black Rose as Necromancer wanted her to.

"Apprentice. Follow."

"Y-Yes, master!"

He called out to the Acolyte, his apprentice, the only one who received his magical knowledge directly. From her demeanour I deduced that the Acolyte is a young woman. She was distracted by something. Is she feeling pity for Rose Oriana? Who are you behind that mask, Acolyte? How curious.

Then he brought me to his base using teleportation, parading me as I was bound in chains made of my own slime suit. My suit is designed for flexibility and thus I cannot help it when it accentuates my body shape so well… But thanks to that, his minions, the Reaper Squad, ogled me with lust in their eyes. I hid it well but… I fear he would just give me to his minions… or even take me for himself. But… in case he decides to take me to his bed himself, can I use that chance to kill—Why am I even bothering? I stabbed him in the heart and it didn't work. I doubt it will make any difference no matter where I stab him. He is a monster, be it in appearance, in behaviour or in power. His minions I can handle. But if he himself were to…

Surprisingly, he didn't allow his minions to take me, nor did he take me himself. Of course… I'm not a person in his eyes. I'm just an animal… a test subject for his profane experiments. My beauty didn't move him. Only pain, death and destruction would…

He took some samples of my blood and locked me in a cell which is warded with anti magic barrier, which makes me unable to use magic inside and thus unable to utilize my smile suit, which he already took away. For modesty, he gave me a white robe similar to the one Olivier used to wear when she was experimented upon in the Sanctuary. How surprisingly kind of him.

Then I spent a few days in that cell, expecting him to come to torment me again. But he never came. Is he so busy with other experiments or evil plans that he neglects me? Is he really the type to micromanage the takeover of Oriana instead of just delegating things to his subordinates?

Either way, all these silent days left me with time to think… as I have nothing else to do but think these days. After thinking about it, I realize I cannot give up now… no matter how powerful he is, Shadow will return. He always do. Even Necromancer seems to imply that will be the case. I must have faith in him.

Also, now that I think of it, Necromancer's behaviour was… odd, unlike what I usually expect of him. He behaved strangely ever since that monster tried to absorb his magic. I recall he mentioned about not allowing someone to control him. Someone's trying to control him? If so… who? That eldritch creature from another world?

Also… when he was about to deliver the finishing blow to Delta… he stopped and muttered "Char"… what or who is this Char? And why did this Char stop him from killing Delta? Ugh… too little information.

Speaking of information… my captivity should be an opportunity for me to gather information. I remember that Shadow was able to unleash his ultimate magic even within the Sanctuary, which drains magic of whoever is inside. Also, when we were younger, when he taught us magic, he emphasizes that control and solidifying your magic is key to making your magic more powerful. I spent the next few days training my magic control like we used to, something I almost have no time for after I assumed leadership of the Seven Shades. Even though my magic is sealed, eventually I managed to solidify my magic internally so that even if I cannot properly use magic outside, the magic inside my body is mainly untouched. So this is how he did it in the Sanctuary.

With my magic available to me again, I used it to enhance my hearing, allowing me to hear sounds even if they are far away and muffled by the walls. There are a lot of whispers and sounds so I need to specifically search for his voice… or the voice of anyone relevant among his minions… like the Seven Wraiths.

Eventually I found him… I found his voice… muffled but unmistakable.

"… Coordinate… 17623… I must… weave them… ike this… carefully… chase Thanatos… to Earth…"

I can't make out what he's saying due to how muffled it is but… he seems to want to chase that monster whom he named Thanatos.

"… Orbit… too far after tomorrow… must open portal... tomorrow." He seems to plan to leave tomorrow. I believe I must too.

When the next day comes, I broke through my cell and disposed of the undead guards through surprise attack, making sure they cannot alert the others… though it seems that I've been found out either way when I heard beeping sounds and many footsteps searching for me. With my enhanced hearing, I managed to avoid all chasers, be they the undead or the Reaper Squad. Sadly I still don't know where the exit is and thus I end up at the laboratory where Necromancer was yesterday.

There I saw an open portal, stable and not as big as the Black Rose, only the size of a regular door. I was about to enter it for a possible escape but I decided to look around his room before leaving. There are various corpses laying on the examination tables, all of which are in horrible conditions, no doubt part of his experiments into creating undead minions. There are vials of blood (probably including my own) and other unknown liquid vials lying in his tables. The papers on the desk have notes that are sadly written in a language I don't understand. I'd take them with me so I can have Eta decipher them but without my slime suit I have no pockets to store the—

Oh, it looks like he stored some of our slimes in his lab, within one of the bottles. But the amount is sadly not enough to form a suit but I took them anyway because they are still enough to form a sword. At least I found a small bag to store the papers and a few items that might be of interest, like these pieces of metal that I detect are stronger than mythril. I destroyed the rest, hoping it would hinder his plans even for a little bit.

Wearing nothing but a white robe and armed with a bottle's worth of slime, I jumped to the portal, passing through darkness and eventually a kaleidoscope of colors... and beheld as I enter an entirely new world… A world with extremely tall buildings which somewhat resembles the Don Jon Tower… A world that looked like it has went through an apocalypse judging from the lack of life and ruined buildings. What… is this world?

Author's Note:

Decided to have Alpha join him in Japan. I almost scrapped this chapter because at first I didn't know what she should do on Earth, what role she should play, considering she couldn't communicate in Japanese, at least for a little while… but then I remembered something about the Japan arc and… well, it fits together more than I thought.

Chapter 140: SharkBait96
Chapter 140: SharkBait96

I rode the giant monster as it walks away from Messiah after delivering my declaration of war against them. I was about to go to the direction of the headquarters of other factions, especially the villainous ones but I stopped on the way when I spotted familiar but ruined streets, streets that I used to pass through a lot during my murder sprees. Yes… this is close to my former apartment, which is obviously in ruins now.

My past life should not matter anymore… but I think it is important not to lose it or else I will lose my identity, just like what happened to Thanatos, though his case was much more extreme and was only possible because of the alien environment he was forced to adapt in.

Also… there is one more thing to confirm… my emotional attachments to my family. I don't remember them currently… but did I love them? Was I close to them? If I meet them again, can I kill them or will my affection for them get in the way just like it did whenever I wanted to kill Charlotte… or Adra's little sister?

I must confirm my attachments… see if my past self was able to overcome it or not. And thus, I visited my former apartment, leaving the monster outside.

Not much broken stuff considering nobody lives here by the time the monster attacked and thus there was no reason for anyone to enter… only a few stuff falling on the floor due to the apartment building shaking and dust. So much dust.

Still… coming back here brings back so many memories. I found my old clothes, my uniforms and several hoodies that I wore when I go out to kill people and several plastic white skull masks hidden in a chest underneath my bed. I couldn't find my duffel bag which is filled with weapons and tools I used to kill people with, most likely because I died when I was out killing people… but I found my handgun, which I bought on the black market but never use.

Also found my old phone and my pc. Both have no power but that's no problem for the current me, who have magic. I create an orb of magic in my hand and will it to turn into electricity. That's the easy part. But before I can try to charge my phone with it, I need to perform some tests in order to figure out the correct amount of power to use, and thus I broke into the other rooms and took whatever phones I can find and tried to charge their batteries with magic. Several exploded due to being overcharged but I eventually figured it out and managed to charge my phone without it exploding.

With the phone done, I was able to easily start electricity on the pc too by sticking the electricity spell on my apartment's power plugs, supplying them with small amount of electricity over time, which ends up powering the whole house. I was able to access the games on my pc and played some of them for a few hours.

Surprisingly there's internet here. I suppose the connection must've come from Messiah's ISP which used the same network the city had and they didn't anticipate someone using it right here on an abandoned part of the city, which is why they didn't cut the connection here. This is good. I recall I used to be known online as SharkBait96, a notorious online troll who trolls people on various forums and video games. Trolling was so much fun and it's time to do it again.

Let's see. There's not much online activity due to how many people died from the monster attacks. Took me some time to find forums still active because most websites have had their servers shut down.

Lookie here! A forum discussing the return of the Occult Killer! Interesting!

Now then… Time to dust off my trolling skill.

SharkBait96: Ha ha ha. Looks like the mods are here. I've had my fun. But know this, humans. You're all DOOMED.

*User SharkBait96 has been banned*

That was fun. The internet is still full of simps and toxic people. This one is a tame one compared to other forums though, probably because it was better regulated. Even the mods arrived in time to ban me.

But all that trolling and games distracted me from my true goal of coming here! My family! I didn't live together with them because I had to move away to attend high school. Something about my father having connections with the Nishino, which is why I was sent away from my hometown. They were expecting me to attend Nishino University when I graduate from Sakurazaka High School. But I can't remember much else. Now... where did I keep anything concerning family?

I scrolled through my chatting app and found only little message from my parents, mainly them asking if I'm fine at school, which I replied yes, and they said that it is good. Most of our conversation involves my school life and how high my score is. I suppose I was never close to them.

Mom: By the way, it's your sister's birthday today! Make sure you say happy birthday to her!

Me: Yes mom. I will.

So I have a sister in this world too… Who is she? What's my relationship with her!? I scrolled down my messages and found my mail exchange with her.

Me: Happy birthday, imouto!

Imouto: Aww thanks, onii-chan! When can you return home? I miss you!

Me: Maybe when I actually have time. Mom and dad forced me to attend cram schools even during vacations so I couldn't go home even on weekends.

Imouto: Oh… That's okay. I'm a big girl now so I can take care of myself! By the way, have you got any girlfriends yet? When you do, please introduce her to me!

Me: Yeah yeah I will.

….

Hmmm… It seems that I was closer to her than my parents. She also likes to meddle with my love life like Charlotte did. Is she the reason why I was so weak with Charlotte? Even when I didn't remember her name or her face… my feelings for her still didn't vanish completely…

This is bad. She will be an obstacle to my villainy… just like Charlotte did. Is she dead already? Or is she still alive? Part of me hope that she's already dead so I don't have to face her again… but another part of me also wants to meet her.

How vexing.

Anyway, I confirmed that I have a little sister that I was close to but now I barely know her. I probably shouldn't be but I'm so curious so I searched my room for my diary, where I also kept records of my killings… but I can't find it. Meh, probably the diary was lost along with my duffel bag.

No matter. I'm done playing around. Time to infiltrate other settlements and gather more informations… and admire the villainy of each of them.

Author's Note:

I hope you enjoyed the internet conversation. There are 3 vtuber fans included in that conversation, all three of which has streamed and played The Eminence in Shadow Master of Garden. Two of them even appeared as characters in that game.

Also, SharkBait96 is not actually a reference to Gura, though I admit I thought of her when I decided this name.

Chapter 141: The Factions of Japan
Chapter 141: The Factions of Japan

"The problem is that we need to decide whether to believe his threat or not!"

"You daft, old man? His power is real! Of course so does his threat!"

"But we don't even know if he's the real Occult Killer or not!"

"Whether he's the real deal or not does not matter. What's more important is whether he'll truly do what he said he would!"

"Of course he's gonna fucking do it! Otherwise we'd be hearing some demands! For money or our tech or whatever!"

"Shut it, you ignorant youngsters! Let us men do the talking!"

"Hey! I've earned my place to be here! I've fought monsters to save your sorry old asses countless times!"

"It was thanks to us that you are able to obtain such power in the first place, you ungrateful brat!"

"You old fools are only here because of money! You know nothing of combat!"

Several men are shouting arguments at each other in the meeting room within Messiah's main headquarters (which used to be Nishino University). The men shouting at each other are members of the Messiah Knights and the members of Nishino board of directors, the executives who financed the creation of the Messiah Knights.

These two factions have always been at odds with each other due to conflicting interests, where the knights genuinely wants to protect Messiah whereas the board of directors cared more about politics above all else. Both sides made mistakes which costs lives in the past though, the knights through reckless decisions and the board of directors through callous and coldhearted decisions, and thus they are at a stalemate in their conflict, neither side has an advantage over the other.

In the case of the Occult Killer's ultimatum, the board of directors elected to doubt his threat and to either ignore it or take the wait and see approach while the Knights fully believed in his threat.

"Isn't there something else we need to discuss here? Like what deal did our so-called Savior made with that guy?" At the sound of the brute Saejima Yuudai's voice, all eyes turned to him… and then towards Akane. Of course he hasn't forgotten her refusal to accept his sexual advances and thus is still sore about it.

"How dare you accuse the Savior, Saejima!"

"You're just sore because she doesn't want to sleep with you!"

"The Savior will never betray us!"

The other knights defended their idol and sent Yuudai threatening glares but he is undeterred by their glares and merely smirked with satisfaction, which didn't last long as he see Akane's expressionless face, not exactly the reaction he wanted.

"Be silent, Saejima-kun. You should not speak out of line." One of the board members defended their champion (political tool) by scolding him, which he ignored.

"I, for one, believe that it is indeed important for us to know what the Occult Killer personally said to her." Said Haitani, the commander of the Messiah Knights, whose opinion has always been professional and unbiased so far, which earned him respect from both the board of directors and the knights.

"Akane-san. We'd like to hear what he said to you." Haitani addressed Akane, which snapped her out of her thoughts.

"Ah… Yes. He said… that letting me live and struggle would be more amusing to him… and he told me to continue struggling to survive for his entertainment." Akane said with haunted eyes.

"That bastard!"

"He won't get away with this!"

"We must hunt him down and kill him!"

"But he was too strong! How are we supposed to kill him!?"

"With Akane-san's power, we can beat him!"

While Akane is grateful that they defended her from Yuudai's accusations, the way they praised her placed more burdens and expectations upon her shoulders. They have seen how much the Occult Killer's power surpassed theirs. How could they think she could match him?

But she cannot say it. Before she knows it, their admiration and idolization of her already became too deep. Anything she says to deny them will never change their minds. They will simply say she is being humble.

"From that message and the threat he made, we can only assume that the Occult Killer doesn't have our best interests at heart and thus I believe we can consider him an enemy." Haitani said whilst eyeing the board of directors, who up until that point refuses to declare the Occult Killer as an enemy of Messiah either out of fear of his power or because they thought he can be bought with money or something.

"What do you propose we do, Commander Haitani? That we send our knights to hunt him down?" One of the board members questioned Haitani.

"No. Sending our knights out is too reckless even without him in the picture. We need to contact other settlements, warn them of this new threat and possibly work together with them to combat this new threat."

"And you think they will listen?"

"Hard to say. But… as coldhearted as this might sound… I believe that they will only take this threat seriously if several settlements fell to the Occult Killer's might, similar to the time we had to work together to fight against the Doomsday Cult." Haitani replied, referencing the time when Messiah reluctantly allied with other settlements to combat the Doomsday Cult, which at that point have destroyed several settlements. They didn't succeed in annihilating the Doomsday Cult but they dealt a devastating blow to the Cult nonetheless, which caused the Doomsday Cult to be not as active as they were before.

"Then we shall contact our former allies in Akihabara Settlement." One of the board members, whom Akane noted to be familiar, said. The others agreed with him as they have an amicable relationship with Akihabara. Even Akane has good relationship with the protectors of Akihabara, who happens to style themselves as Mahou Shoujo (Magical Girls). One of them even wanted to dress Akane in a Mahou Shoujo outfit, which she refused due to the outfit being too flamboyant for her.

The meeting is soon concluded with that decision and are scheduled to continue once they received news from other settlements, especially from Akihabara.

"Mari-chan." A middle aged man in black suit called out to a girl wearing blue frilly dress. The girl also has blue hair.

"Hm? What's wrong, Kuzaya-kun?" The girl addressed the man with familiarity despite the huge gap in their ages, though the man also did the same.

"Ahem. We received message from Messiah."

"Ah! Is it from Akane-chan!?"

"It's from their board of directors actually. They delivered… terrible news. They said the Occult Killer has returned and attacked Messiah, turning a dead monster into a giant and then made a declaration that he will destroy every other settlements in Japan, leaving Messiah as the last one to be destroyed."

"The Occult Killer…" The girl called Mari frowned when she heard the name, losing her radiant smile.

"Is he… the real deal… or just another impostor?" Mari asked the man called Kuzaya with a serious face.

"Hard to say… But Messiah seems to think that he is at least a huge threat because their knights felt how powerful he is, which dwarfed every single knights in Messiah combined, Akane included. He could even revive and enlarge a dead monster, putting it under his control, something that surpasses what the Doomsday Cult was capable of. They took this threat seriously, which is… rare of them." Hearing the comparison with the Doomsday Cult sent shivers down Mari's spine. The Doomsday Cult was bad enough back when she fought them together with Akane. And now… someone even more dangerous than they are has appeared?

"I see. Well… whoever he is, he will never break my spirit! I shall protect humanity at all costs!" Declared Mari, regaining her confident smile as she resolved herself for future battles.

"That's what I wanted to hear."

"By the way, have you informed the others yet?"

"Not yet. I was just about to summon them for a meeting."

"So the Mystic Witches will finally reunite after so long! And considering it was Messiah that contacted us, there's a chance that we can meet and work together with Akane-chan again! I'm so excited!" Mari exclaimed in an enthusiastic voice at the thought of meeting her fellow magical girls whom she hasn't met in a long time due to being sent on separate missions.

"Yes. You will finally be together again."

"And you, Kuzaya-kun, have to join us! You are our mascot character after all!" Declared Mari as she pointed her finger to the man.

"Err… I told you that I'm just an old man, not a cute tiny mascot creature."

"You still gave us our magical powers, guided us and worked together with us to protect the world! I'd say you're qualified to be our magical mascot!" Mari declared with a radiant smile that makes the middle aged man unable to refuse.

"Alright. I'll be the mascot… as long as I don't have to wear that costume again." Kuzaya said, recalling the outfit resembling a cat-like creature that they made for him.

"Aww…" Mari-chan attacks with Puppy Eyes!

"Alright alright. I'll wear the damn thing." It was super effective!

"Yaaay!" Mari-chan attacks with happy smile!

"Uooghh…!" It was super effective!

"A-Anyway, I'll send a message when they have gathered. Until then, you have free time."

"Okay! See you later, Kuzaya-kun!" Mari said as she left the man.

"Mari-tan too cute! Aghhh….!" Kuzaya gripped his heart as if assaulted by a heart attack, perhaps due to high levels of sugar he just received.

"Are you sure that the Occult Killer has returned?" Said a robed man wearing mask.

"That's what our plant in Messiah said. The old men on the board seem to believe it as well." Said another robed man wearing mask.

"Can we verify it?"

"Bah! Who cares if he has returned or not, or if he's the real deal or not! We should--" The voice of the masked man was cut along with his head.

"I hope no one else forget whom our cult worshipped… what we stand for." Said a hulking man wearing robe and a mask, who sheathes his sword back. The other masked men were silenced as they were too scared to oppose him.

"What do you propose we do, Astaroth-sama?"

"We must contact him and try to draw him to our side. Our last defeat had cost us dearly and we have been in decline for so long afterwards. I'm sure he has descended to the mortal realm once again because he was disappointed in us. We must prove that we are still worthy of being his champions of death." Said the hulking man that they referred to as Astaroth.

"But Astaroth-dono. We don't even know if this "Occult Killer" is who he claims to be. We must proceed with caution!" Said a man who, in contrast to everyone else besides the ones sitting beside him, wore suits instead of cultist robes and masks. Said person is part of businessmen and rich people, investors who financed the cult's magical research so they can not only be spared from the cult's wrath but also gain some profit in the form of spoils of war.

In a sense, they are similar to Messiah's board of directors and due to the Doomsday Cult's defeat against the coalition forces, of which Messiah and Akihabara factions were part of, they have gained more political influence within the Doomsday Cult after many veteran cultists perished in war.

"What do you suggest we do then, old man?" Astaroth addressed the man in suit with a glare. He is one of the surviving veteran cultist and one of its founding members, and thus his influence is what kept the Doomsday Cult from being controlled entirely by the investors.

"I suggest we watch and wait before we make decisions recklessly. This man could be dangerous for all we know." The man suggested, which did not amuse Astaroth.

"You mean you feared that he is a psychopath like me and my fallen friends?"

"N-No! I-I did not say such thing, Astaroth-sama!"

"I know you viewed us cultists as nothing but psychopaths. While I do admit that I AM a psychopath, I hope that you do not forget whom you chose to side with. Whom you serve." Astaroth reminded the man.

"How rude! You wouldn't go as far as you have if not for our money!"

"I seem to recall you lot begging us to spare you and for our protection from the monsters. After my friends fell in battle, you've become arrogant, haven't you?" Astaroth remarked whilst unleashing his magical aura, which put pressure even on non Awakeners such as the investors.

"Hiiiiyyy! P-Please forgive us, Astaroth-dono!" The investors kneeled and begged for forgiveness, just like the way they did when they first offered to finance the Cult.

"It's good that you know your place and remember that you chose to side with us. Now then. Let us prepare for a new dawn! All hail the Occult Killer! The Supreme Lord of Death!"

"""All hail the Occult Killer! The Supreme Lord of Death!""" Shouted the cultists in unison as they bowed before a statue of a winged grim reaper.

Long time no see. I was busy last week so I haven't been able to release any chapters. Night shift on weekends sucks. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the dynamic between the factions of Japan.

Chapter 142: Tamamo-no-Mae
Chapter 142: Tamamo-no-Mae

I stood above my giant monster's head overlooking the city of Kyoto, where the power ranger faction is based. Most of the city districts have either become ghost town or became nest for the monsters. The only place occupied by humans is a district within a thick wall, similar to Messiah, and at the center of the settlement is a skyscraper, no doubt the main base of the power ranger faction.

The sight of my giant monster made them sound their alarm and even from afar I can smell their fear. How delicious.

"Such a beautiful city. Some of its structures are even reminiscent of my own Pleasure District in the Lawless City, especially that tall building over there." Said a certain nine tailed white fox standing beside me as she pointed her fan towards the Yasaka Pagoda, which definitely resembles her White Tower. The buildings surrounding it also looks very similar to the ones found in the Pleasure District of Lawless city, which she ruled. The former capital city preserved many of its old architecture, making it considered the cultural capital of Japan and a major tourist attraction, though most of them are destroyed at this point. Even the Yasaka Pagoda looks abandoned.

When I saw the Pleasure District and the White Tower for the first time, it made me think of Kyoto and I also felt nostalgic as I wasn't really expecting to see Japanese culture in the other world. I almost thought that somehow Japanese culture were brought to the other world from Japan but I dismissed that thought immediately considering the other world is dominated by European culture as most fantasy worlds in fiction do. A little bit eastern culture shouldn't be surprising.

"Do you like the view?"

"Yes. I do. Though I suppose you intended to destroy it, didn't you, Lord Necromancer?"

"Yes."

"Such a shame, though it's already half destroyed anyway. But I certainly can see where you obtained all the knowledge you shared with me, which allowed the Snow Fox Corporation to rival Mitsugoshi. To think that all that knowledge came from another world entirely. You weren't kidding when you said it's from far away." She said as she looked at the skyscrapers, no doubt thinking of the Don Jon Tower and the conversation we had there. Hm, I missed the place already.

"I also wonder if Shadow Garden obtained their knowledge from here too."

"They most likely do." Through reincarnation like me.

"Did you come here to obtain more knowledge, my lord?"

"Yes, I did. But declaring war here is a way to force them into an even greater corner and make them develop more technologies for me to steal."

"Oh, how crafty you are, my lord. Having them being pushed by these monsters isn't enough to force them to create the knowledge you wanted, isn't it?"

"Indeed. Their creations left much to be desired. However, I am quite amazed that they were able to develop their magical technology quite far within just three years of being exposed to magic, even if compared to ours theirs were of severely low quality, but that is understandable as they have never interacted with magic before. And I wished to see if I can push them a bit further into creating something that surprises even me." I gave her my reasoning for coming to Japan, which is merely a secondary objective because being a villain has always been my first objective.

"Then I shall assist you in your endeavour, my lord. I am, after all, yours."

"Speaking of which… what are you doing here, Yukime?" I asked her whilst turning to her confusedly as I certainly didn't expect her to be here.

"I crossed through the portal that you opened in your lab, my lord."

"Any reason why you've done so?"

"Your newest pet has escaped her prison and the entire base is on a lockdown and… I suspect that the only way she could've escaped is through your portal so I passed through in order to chase her. Couldn't find her so far though."

"So she has come… interesting… VERY interesting indeed. Heh heh heh."

"Judging from your chuckle, I'd say you have an evil plan brewing." Yukime remarked whilst grinning.

"Indeed I do. You will see it soon. For now, let us focus on this particular settlement called Kyoto, named after the entire city before it was destroyed."

"Kyoto, huh. What a nice name."

"You may explore the place before we launch the attack. I'll give them one hour to respond to my presence."

"Very well, my lord. See you in one hour!" Yukime said as she left to explore the… Higashiyama-ku prefecture if I recall correctly, where the Yasaka Pagoda is. I knew she's interested to see it so I let her go. She'd be happier to visit it when it wasn't in ruins, I'm sure, but her appearance certainly will attract attention… Now that I think of it, that might quite be interesting. Heh heh heh. Let's watch what happens next.

The colorless rangers, wearing white body suit that makes them resemble the Golem Soldiers from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger or the Putty Patrollers from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, patrolled the abandoned districts of Kyoto to cull the number of monsters infesting their territory, just like how other settlements do. They stopped their patrol when they heard the alarms ringing from their headquarters.

"The alarm's ringing. Don't you think we should go back?"

"Nah, the boss red ranger said we're not allowed to return under any circumstances until we finish our patrol. If we go back, we'll be beaten up!"

"He's such a tyrant! And yet he pretends to be a hero! We're even dressed like the villain's minions!"

"Man, I can't believe I got assigned to this work again! I just did it yesterday! I just can't take a break, can I? Why can't we get some vacation whereas those Magirangers get to laze of in the headquarters almost everyday!?"

"Stop your complaining and just enjoy the view!"

"What view? All I see is ruins!"

"If the monsters didn't destroy the world, all this beauty would've been preserved for centuries to come, you know? We could've been the last generation to set foot here and enjoy this scenery."

"Bah! I don't care about the scenery! I want my vacation!"

Some of them admired the beauty of the city, looking back to what it once was, while some others are dissatisfied for being assigned to grunt work while the three rangers, the Magirangers, rarely go out themselves and mostly spent their time in the main building of Kyoto settlement, which they called the Command Center.

As they were arguing, their magically enhanced senses picked up the sound of a cat bell. They stopped arguing once they noticed the bell's sound.

"Did you hear that?"

"A… bell?"

"Did someone's cat end up here?"

"How could a cat survive in this environment, idiot?"

"But that's definitely a cat bell! I'm sure of it! Let's go there!"

The group immediately went to the source of the sound. As they approached the source of the bell's sound however, they immediately felt heavy pressure and dread… the feeling of an extremely powerful monster with enormous amount of magic that they've never felt before. For some reason the image of a giant white fox appeared in their minds.

"D-Did you feel that…?"

"Yeah… What the hell is that…?"

"W-We should investiga--"

"Hell no! I'm not going anywhere near that mons--!" The man's voice were cut by the sudden appearance of a beautiful woman wearing snow white kimono standing above a building, gazing at them with cold eyes from above like a predator eyeing its preys. The sound of the bell came from the fan she carries in her hand, where two cat bells are strapped, confirming her to be the source of the sound.

The sight of the woman stunned them… not just because of her beauty and her enormous magical power… but also the inhuman features she possess, namely her snow white hair, fox ears and nine tails.

"T-That's…"

"Those tails real…?"

"Th-They're moving! I guess so!"

"Sh-She's not… human is she?"

"She's beautiful…!"

"What the fuck is she…? Is she one of the monsters?"

"No… Is she… Tamamo-no-Mae!?" The mention of the name of a certain mythological creature sent shivers down their spines. They wanted to think it's just a fairy tale but her waving nine tails and her titanic magical powers makes it hard for them to deny it, especially considering that they now live in an age where magic exists.

If magic and monsters are real… then why not mythologies and old legends?

"Greetings, natives of Kyoto. You may call me Yukime. Would you be so kind as to escort me around the place?" The nine tailed woman spoke in a foreign language that they neither understand nor recognize, which makes them feel even more frightened.

"Wh-What is she saying?"

"What language is that?"

"I dunno! Doesn't sound like any language I know!"

"She's speaking the language of the gods!"

Their frightened body language and foreign speech perplexes Yukime, who just want a friendly tour around the city.

Ah… I forgot that my magic power makes them feel like they're merely ants. Also, to think that I'd encounter a language barrier here… Perhaps I need to ask Lord Necromancer to teach me the language of the natives. Thought Yukime as she left the colorless rangers, who remained stunned even minutes after she left.

"Wh-What was that?"

"Was that a dream?"

"I dunno. Felt so real… and yet so unreal at the same time."

"She spared us…?"

"Is it weird that I… became hard from how coldly she looked at us?"

"Same man… I want her to step on me. Hee hee hee."

"You horndogs! This is no time to be horny! We have to report this to the headquarters now!"

"B-But… under no circumstances are we allowed to--"

"Fuck that! This is an emergency! Besides, the alarm is ringing anyway! We might as well go back!"

"O-Okay!"

The colorless rangers left immediately in order to report their findings.

Yukime returned much earlier than I expected… with a perplexed expression. Did something happen when she encountered those ranger minions?

"Lord Necromancer. I tried to speak with them but I can't understand what they're saying! Could you teach me how to speak their language?" Ah, I see. Sometimes I forget that they speak Japanese here. This is an opportunity for an experiment that I've never conducted before.

"I have no time to teach you… and thus I will place the knowledge of the language directly to your brain. This will be invasive. Are you willing to proceed?"

"Yes." Yukime answered without hesitation, as if I wasn't going to fuck her brain.

"Very well. Be still." I said as I held her head with both my hands and inject my magic to her brain. She didn't resist at all and allowed my magic to flow freely into her brain. This time, instead of reading her mind, I inject my knowledge of the Japanese language to her brain, causing her to have a headache. She didn't scream however, and merely grits her teeth as she endured the pain. She even has a nosebleed.

When I finished, she fell to my arms. I almost find it hilarious that we have switched position compared to that time in her village.

"Nekuromansa-sama… Thank you…" She thanks me in Japanese and passes out. I know the pain that she's going through right now. I felt it before when I took the memories of my clone and end up biting more than I can chew. At least this means my experiment is a success.

It wasn't easy to develop this brain magic because I have to interpret brainwaves in order to decipher its contents through magic. I separate the brainwaves into three categories: emotion, thoughts and memories.

Thoughts are what the person is currently thinking. Reading it is basically mind reading. The information gained this way is limited to what the person is thinking and thus it won't reveal every information in said person's brain but it is useful as it filters unnecessary information. I could even bait the victim to thinking about the topic I want them to think with few words.

Memories are the full content of the person's brain, though it is limited to what they can remember. Things they don't remember are not quite erased, just hidden away and blurred. During my brain experiments I tried deciphering the blurred memories to varying degrees of success. Sometimes I succeeded in getting vague images of forgotten memories, sometimes I couldn't, sometimes I just outright destroy the person's brain. Carmilla's case is one example of forgotten memories resurfacing through some triggers. Through her interactions with Claire Kagenou, she was able to recall her memories about her sister. Too bad she died so I can't watch her brain's development.

Emotion is… complicated as it is influenced by hormones. I tried deciphering emotions in order to read people who can hide their emotions well but due to how hard it is to interpret emotions and due to how much easier it is to just read their minds or their body language, I stopped bothering.

Besides reading, brain magic could even be used to alter brainwaves, allowing me to either manipulate memories or even control the brain through hypnosis. This is harder than just reading the brainwaves and can be resisted by the victim's mere willpower, which is why I'm glad I chose to be a terrifying villain as most people are too afraid to resist my hypnosis.

The development of the brain magic was greatly enhanced by Sherry, my genius little apprentice. Sometimes I'm afraid that she has become better at brain magic than me. That's why while I did teach her how to use brain magic to protect her brain from magical invasions such as mind reading spells or even hypnosis, I didn't teach her my special brand of brain protection magic, which is basically brainwave encryption, making sure nobody can decipher my brainwaves to either manipulate or read it. Even though I truly loved her and know how loyal she is to me, I can't help but be paranoid.

I took a futon I took from my apartment and let Yukime lay down on it. I need her to recover quickly because I have plans for her by making her the Tamamo-no-Mae. What kind of chaos can her presence unleash? Heh heh heh. This is going to be so much fun. But for now, I have a bunch of rangers to destroy. Let's see if you can handle my monster without Zords. Heh heh heh.

Author's Note:

It's been only a week and yet it felt so long. Last week I was unable to update in the weekend because I was drawing the cover art for the vampire and Don Jon arc of this fic, which you can find at my twitter (@TheOminousRain), tumblr (@OminousRain), Instagram (@ominous_rain), DeviantArt (@OminousRain) or in the r/TheEminenceInShadow Subreddit. You can also find it in Sufficient Velocity and Archive of Our Own of this fic.

Anyway, I decided to bring Yukime to Japan because of how Japanese her entire design is. At first I was contemplating on which character to bring besides Alpha but then I remember that Yukime once had a conversation with Don Jon about where he obtained the knowledge to develop products to rival Mitsugoshi and also because she is the classic nine tailed fox seductress like Tamamo so she can be considered mythological creature in Japan. Hope to make more out of this later.

Also, I added a bit of magic research section in this chapter inspired by Sonic-Shine's fanfiction: Obsessions in Shadow, which is dominated by magic research chapters.

Also, in case you guys are curious, here is the Yasaka Pagoda, AKA the irl White Tower:

So based on some previous chapter.... there's various faction all across japan... There's Akane faction that's evangelion(?) theme, Kyoto with super sentai theme, Akihabara with Magical Girls, also all of evil faction and scattered faction settlement... but I also wonder if there's a Vtuber based faction because entertainment is great stress relief+source of income for settlement+get bunch of protectors, because based on Claude internet browsing the Vtuber exist...
so after some thinking maybe here's how it play out: vtuber company/agency release vtuber on internet first as a way to gain income for magic experiment and there's bunch of agency so their method differ from each other, after getting at magical experiment convert their talent to became rl protector the way Akane is handled this method also differ from each other, make sure there's no magical overload incident so talent have managers that basically tell them when use of magic is acceptable or forbidden, profit&protected settlement done? Maybe...
Also if we convert our real world vtuber agency as faction in japan in maybe look like this:
Indies - scattered, maybe it resemble kamen rider faction the way it operate other than that they are different from each other and maybe just one on each settlement.
Kizuna Ai Agency: because they only have one character that VA can change, they have a bunch of androids resembling Kizuna Ai appearance that controlled by via, the androids is a magical items.
Holopro Agency: because each gen/vtuber have at least a theme, their power resemble their avatar, like all theriantrope character have beast strenght enhanced magic, elf and demon/angel like character have magical resonance amplified, and human character might have a similar situation like Akane but different skill and attribut. They train each talent individually based on their individual lore before releasing it them as protectors of the settlement. It also made their protector are decently strong.
Nijisanji Agency: Almost the same as Holopro but after initial magical experiment succesful on each talent, they just gave them permission to become protector if wanted. They might be the biggest number in term of vtuber protector but each of them didn't know when to stop or continue because lack of training.
All other agency: depent if they are black company or just good company, if black they just release gen after the previous one got decimated if good they just got magical training to at least defent the settlement.

Lol if I have plans for them I might make Fauna, Nene and Lui canon to my fic but unfortunately they were merely cameos. I have no plans to include vtubers into the story because I don't know what they would do or what role they should play in the narrative. Heck, I can't even decide on omake chapters for them.

It is just hypotetical scenario... at least for now if it exist in your fanfic, they just at gathering fund for magical experiment phase and all of bunch I write before might happen after earth arc done.

I do wonder how would I write Nene, Lui and Fauna and perhaps Lamy as cameos in this fanfic (the reason I chose them is because they streamed TEiS MoG). Hmmm...

Chapter 143: Darkness Falls on Kyoto
Chapter 143: Darkness Falls on Kyoto

An hour has passed since I appeared with my monster. The one hour I gave them has passed (even though I didn't really make any announcements this time). I wonder how they are reacting?

"Uhhn…" Yukime woke up faster than I expected. Even I took a whole night to recover from information overload.

"Aghh…!" She clutches her head. Her brain still aches. Ah. She's pushing herself too much.

"Keep resting. You couldn't have recovered yet." I said as I push her back into her futon.

"Ahh… But I watch want… conquest… of lord…" She replied in broken Japanese. What a troublesome woman. If this keeps up she'll break her own brain and would become useless to me. Oh well… I suppose this is another opportunity for another experiment.

"Don't speak a word, especially in Japanese. Hold still." I replied in the language of the other world in order to place less burden on her brain and placed both my hands on the sides of her head and once again inject my magic to her brain. This time however, I'm not forcefully injecting knowledge to her brain but instead apply healing magic and help her brain organize the new rush of knowledge she just obtained. She still needs more rest to recover obviously but at least she can stay awake for a while in order to witness my villainy.

"Ohh… Lord Necromancer…" She whispered with a dreamy face. I could've sworn I see heart symbols on her eyes. Ah… in this position it almost looked like I was about to kiss her. Fortunately I have my mask on so even if she were to lean forward, all she would kiss is the teeth of my skull mask. These lips of mine are rated S for Sherry after all.

"I said hold still." I sternly said but she didn't seem to listen. I read a bit of her mind and… saw images of us kissing. Haaahh… This horny woman…

"I'm finished. Now you can snap out of your daydream." I said, which snaps her back to reality, though her expression still didn't change.

"Ah… Thank you, Lord Necromancer. Should I call you kind… or very forceful for… penetrating me twice in a day?" She made a lewd joke whilst acting bashful.

"Never make such a joke in front of Sherry." I warned her not to cause misunderstandings with Sherry. I already had to deal with that a lot with her and my sister. I don't want to add more to the pile.

"Hee hee hee. Don't worry. I'm not aiming to compete with Sherry-chan. In fact, I totally support her relationship with you."

"Then why are you still making advances towards me?"

"Because I want to be your second woman."

"Huh?"

"You have Sherry… and probably Princess Iris too even if your marriage with her is only for political purposes but it is obvious that you're drawing the attention of so many women." She teased.

"How troublesome. I already had to deal with too many sycophants at school."

"I'm not referring to them. I'm referring to women who truly fall in love with you, like Sherry-chan, me, Princess Iris… and even Marie-chan."

"Marie?" Isn't that the secretary girl from Lawless City? I haven't met her since my Don Jon persona perished so I almost forgotten about her.

"I can tell she's head over heels with you… or to be more precise… to your Don Jon persona. I mean… ever since his death she has started working whilst wearing white suit and carries your cane and pistol with her all the time. She even salvaged and kept Don Jon's chair in her room and cleans it every day even though she never sat upon it." Huh… That girl even went that far? Why? Don Jon is an old man, not a handsome young man like me. Does she have preference for old men? Perhaps her experience as a prostitute warped her tastes? Or maybe that's how she is from the beginning? Who knows?

"Oh, the way she smiled when she cleans your chair is so cute! I actually approve of her joining your harem!"

"I have no intention of starting a harem." I rejected her harem plan outright.

"Fu fu fu. You may still resist… but soon enough I'll make you fall to the charms of a harem!" She chuckled (in Japanese manga way) and declared something outrageous. I decided to change the topic.

"Speaking of which, how goes the Lawless City?"

"All is well. The people are well employed and are happy. Even the children!"

Children of Lawless City are happy? In THAT Lawless City? You'd be surprised. My modern day common sense can't keep up with the standards of the Lawless City back when I first started conquering it. There are plenty of orphaned children in Lawless City, especially ones abandoned by their mothers from the Pleasure District brothels, who had to survive in the streets. Normally not many of them survive to grow old enough to become common thugs.

When I take over the Lawless City, I had the children work in Snow Fox Corporation's factories, even had them work more than 9 hours 5 days a week. I thought I was being evil when I introduced the concept of child labor and horrible working conditions similar to the age of Industrial Revolution. But the result? I was praised for my generosity instead! Because normally people of Lawless City wouldn't care enough to employ children and would rather abandon them to the streets or force them to steal and only feed them scraps in return. Even the 10 hour work six days a week is seen as generous because to the people of Lawless City, slavery and 24/7 work to the death is the standard for weaklings. I've never felt so embarrassed and defeated. It was too late to change things so I left it alone after deciding that. At least the children were useful enough for my plans and the "generous" working conditions made sure that the resilient children survive and gave fewer headaches for Yukime who has to manage everything. I do prefer the efficiency after all.

"I see. Anyway. The one hour I gave them has passed. It is now time to commence my attack."

"Yes!" She watched with anticipation as I ordered my monster to attack.

The three Magirangers stared at the huge screen that showed the image of the black robed man wearing a skull mask and a nine tailed fox woman clad in white. From the reports of their grunts, the colorless rangers, they assumed that the fox woman, if not Tamamo-no-Mae, is a monster beyond belief, just like the Occult Killer himself. Considering she is the ally of the masked man claiming to be the Occult Killer, they believed the unbelievable report that their minions gave.

"Sir! The monster has made its move! What do we do!?" A panicked colorless ranger asked.

"Do not worry. Even though we haven't even started on the Zord project, we still have something else to deal with that monster!" The Red Magiranger responded.

"Y-You mean…!"

"Yes! I've contacted them! Soon he shall arrive!"

With that vague announcement, the colorless rangers cheered as their lives were saved. The Red Magiranger is somewhat displeased because he couldn't bask in glory due to being unable to save the day himself this time but even he knows his limits, especially after what he experienced in Messiah. This decision of theirs would also incur a lot of debt but it cannot be helped. As long as Kyoto survived, they can rebuild.

They then watched as the gigantic quadrupedal monster blasted through several ruined buildings as it ran towards their walled fortress.

But before the monster can reach the walls, it was stopped by a figure wearing red and white body suit with a white gem embedded on his chest and a metal mask covering his entire head. The figure held the beast jaw with both hands. How could he do it to such a gigantic monster? By being a giant himself.

"Ohhh! That's him!"

"That's Ultrama—No… Ultraforce!!!" The colorless ranger corrects himself to avoid copyright infringement.

The gigantic figure, Ultraforce, pushed the monster back and adopts a fighting stance. "Seeit!!!" He shouted in a typical Ultraman fashion.

The Ultraforce is the trump card of Kyoto's ally, The Land of Light, which is based in the nearby city of Otsu, who focused their efforts on creating a single fighter instead of creating an army of awakeners and has succeeded in creating bodysuit that would enlarge the wearer to gigantic form in order to fight against gigantic monsters and apex beasts. The Magirangers, who haven't started creating their own solution to gigantic monsters, was forced to call upon their ally during such a time.

"Shiaaattt!!" Ultraforce launched a kick on the monster, who dodges the attack easily but didn't counter attack. Ultraforce launched a fist and the beast dodges again. The movement of the beast infuriates Ultraforce, who launched several reckless attacks, all of which are dodged by the monster.

"Ultraforce can't… hit it…!"

"I bet the monster is scared of Ultraforce!"

"Y-Yeah…!" The colorless rangers muttered amongst themselves in order to convince themselves of their victory, even though they have lost their morale after seeing how clumsily Ultraforce's movements are.

In truth, the Ultraforce focused too much on the power granted by the suit that he didn't bother training in actual martial arts and was too used to fighting mindless monsters and thus his movements were amateurish.

*Ding Dong Ding Dong Ding Dong*

The alarm started sounding on the white gem in his chest, which flashes red whenever it beeps.

"Oh no! He's losing energy!"

"Already!? But they just started!"

The protectors of Kyoto watched with nervousness as they see Ultraforce already tiring. Ultraforce's suit consumes too much magic power in maintaining the transformation to a giant alone, not to mention the physical strength boost to match the monsters, and thus, with how reckless Ultraforce fights, he consumed too much energy within minutes.

Seeing as the Ultraforce can no longer fight, the monster starts gathering magical power on its mouth and launched a beam of light on Ultraforce, obliterating him completely.

"…." All the rangers, the Magirangers and the colorless ones, are stunned as they saw their last hope destroyed just from one attack. They only moved when the shockwave of the explosion reached their building, shaking it like an earthquake.

"Captain Red! What should we do!?" Shouted the green ranger to his leader, who is unable to reply as their last hope is already gone.

Seeing as the red ranger didn't respond, the blue ranger shouted orders. "Evacuate the city immediately!!!"

But before they can do anything, an explosion occurs in the middle of the room, startling them all.

When the smoke clears, they beheld the figure of the Occult Killer sitting on a floating throne made of bones.

"Honestly, that was disappointing. I thought you would've been able to muster up a better fight than that." The masked figure sitting on the throne remarks. His voice radiates with terror and authority that intimidates all who are present and made them all fall on their knees, and that's not even counting the immense pressure of magic power they sensed from him, which, to the patrols who encountered Yukime, far exceeds hers.

"Wh-What do you want!?" The Red Ranger asked whilst panicking.

"I could've easily destroyed this entire city with my fingertips but because you've disappointed me with your performance, and thus I have another plans in store for you."

"Wh-What kind of plans…?"

"You mentioned you didn't have Zords yet, didn't you? I shall build them for you and have you pilot them to do my evil bidding."

"Wh-What makes you think we will…"

"Either you do as I say or you die in absolute agony and your souls become my slaves for eternity. The choice is yours."

"V-Very well.. We shall do your bidding, Occult Killer-sama." The Red Ranger easily agreed and bowed to his new master. The others followed suit.

"Heh heh heh. Good. Let the games begin."

Author's Note:

The part with Lawless City children working in factories is something I should've mentioned since the Don Jon arc but I forgot. At least I have a chance to mention it while also revealing how Marie's been doing after Don Jon's death.

Ultraman appeared and gets defeated in an instant and now the Magirangers served the Necro—The Occult Killer. The scene where he invaded their Command Center and forced them to pilot his own Zord is definitely a reference to Lord Zedd when he did the same thing to the Power Rangers. I even listened to Lord Zedd's theme whilst writing that scene.

Ultraman knock-off is really weak in this setting... and somehow now we got evil ranger to cover... so what's next? Evangelion Type Mecha?

Them being able to go giant is already pushing the boundaries of TEiS universe because Earth's magitech is only 3 years old so I had to turn him into the typical Ultraman joke (running out of energy thing).

Mahou shoujo and kamen riders are confirmed. I'm also thinking of what parody of japanese super hero franchise is next. Any suggestions?

Metal Hero are easy one because their concept as a cop-robo, also because we have confirmed in the series that awakener/magical overload can cause appearance change we might have a Super Saiyan type of deal here... so maybe you can pull Saint Seiya or just rip something from dragon ball.

Thanks for the suggestion. Although I am unfamiliar with this franchise, they can still appear as parody.

For super saiyan, I have to think about it.

Chapter 144: Nishino Akane, I presume?
Chapter 144: Nishino Akane, I presume?

"That fight was… a bit more disappointing than I thought it would be." Yukime says after she slept for an entire day to recover from her headache.

"Indeed. Though I wasn't really expecting much in the first place."

"That's why you subdued them instead, right? In order to strengthen them so they will provide you with better entertainment to enjoy and resources to harvest."

"That is one thing… but there is another goal in mind."

"What goal, my lord?"

"You will see… Heh heh heh."

"Oh, my lord, you're such a tease." Yukime grinned in anticipation of my plans unfolding.

"What's your next move then, my lord?"

"I'm going to stay here to develop a new weapon with these fools. I'll also send them to attack other settlements in order to give them more battle experience and to steal resources. You shall do the same with the giant monster."

"It shall be done, my lord."

With Kyoto under my command, I ordered the Magirangers and their army of minions to launch attacks to the nearby settlements and massacre all their inhabitants with any means necessary. I specifically ordered the Magirangers in particular to participate on the front lines because normally they would just sit back and relax in the background while hogging all the glory. They obeyed without question out of fear of me. This will give them actual combat (and murder) experience.

Their first target is naturally their ally, the Land of Light, which is based in the nearby city of Otsu, where the Ultraman knock-off came from. Since my monster defeated the Ultraman, their city is defenceless and thus is ripe for targeting. I could probably take a look at their version of giant transformation magic when the rangers brought back their spoils of war.

Having them betray their ally is also a very deliciously villainous thing to do.

I sent Yukime along with my giant monster to attack other settlements while I busied myself with Kyoto's scientists in order to create a giant robot. Of course, I'm no engineer, no expert of robotics. All I did was have them build the robot and I'll be responsible for creating the magic core for its power source and giving it enchantments to make it stronger.

You might be thinking that as a boy I must be happy to create a giant robot. Well, creating the robot is an interesting project to be sure but it is not a fun as experimenting with living beings that I can torment physically and mentally. Makes me miss my experimental subjects back home. Once I return, I'll be sure to give them as much love and affection as possible. No. 001 will join if she does not perform well enough here. Heh heh heh.

Anyway, as interesting it is to bring this robot technology back to the other world, I don't want to cause memory overload by absorbing too much knowledge out of these scientists, not while I'm still in the process if digesting my monstrous counterpart's memory. I'll just bring some data back home and perhaps recreate it when I'm not busy… though will a giant robot be necessary when I have an army of undead and monsters back home? Maybe not a giant robot but an automaton in steampunk style would be more appropriate since the other world's technology is around the steam age. Aesthetics is important.

Anyway, needless to say that the attack on Otsu is a huge success because not only were they undefended, they also didn't expect to be attacked by their former allies. The Magirangers brought back the chief scientists who developed the gigantism tech to create the Ultraman and I copied their memories into a memory crystal so I can review it later.

Yukime was also successful in attacking a settlement owned by a faction called "The Alliance", a faction similar to Messiah who didn't make any eccentric fighters like rangers or magical girls.

Word of my return and subsequent subjugation of Kyoto and attacks on other settlements have spread throughout all of Japan and several factions have tried their best to bolster their defences in response, just the way I intended. Some of them even forged alliances, both old and new. Messiah in particular have rekindled their old alliance with Akihabara faction. Nishino Akane is friends with their protectors, the magical girls, after all, though they don't interest me at all because they are nothing special, the same as the Knights of Messiah, just with more frilly costumes. That Ultraman guy, as disappointing as he is, is far more interesting than they are because he brought something unique (in this world's standard, not to me), which is the gigantism tech.

Also, I expected the Doomsday Cult to contact us immediately (seeing as they worshipped me and are in contact with the Magirangers considering they worked together to attack Messiah) but they haven't. If they have to make me, their god, have to actually pay a visit to them, I'll be very disappointed, so disappointed that I'll treat them like the rest of the factions.

But I am a patient and busy god so I shall give them a chance to pray to me until I finish my current project.

"Long time no see, Akane-chan!" Mari Blue, a blue haired girl wearing blue frilly dress, called out to Akane as they met in an abandoned street for a joint mission between their two factions. Their companions watched as the familiar scene unfolds.

"Hello, Mari-chan. I see you're as energetic as ever." Akane smiled as she hugged her friend, one of the things she still cherish in this broken world full of death, politics and deception.

"How are you? Good I hope?"

"I'm good."

"You're a bad liar, Akane-chan. I can see from the bags on your eyes that you haven't been sleeping well."

"I… I…" Akane stutters, losing her smile as her insecurities are laid bare before her friend.

"It's okay. It's okay." Says Mari as she hugged Akane, comforting her friend who is trying her best to hold back her tears.

"Mari-chan. We can't stay here forever. We're on a mission, you know." Says a girl with red hair and red frilly costume who is Mari Blue's companion called Aki Red.

"Come now, Aki-chan. Let them have their moment. Besides, don't you see that Akane-chan has went through so much?" Says a girl with green hair and green frilly costume, another one of Mari Blue's companion who is called Shiina Green. The three of them are known as the Mystic Witches, the magical girl team who are the primary protectors of Akihabara.

"Tch. You're too soft on them, Shiina-chan!"

"It's okay. I'm fine now, Mari-chan. I can't drown in my… problems forever." Akane says as she broke the hug.

"Haah… You're always like this, Akane-chan. After the mission is done, we're having a talk."

"I don't think--"

"And you have no say in it! Understand? Capische? Vestanden?" Mari Blue declared with her finger pointing at Akane with a smile.

"Haah… Fine." Akane, seeing no reason to refuse, relented to her friend's suggestion.

After that conversation is done, they held a briefing for the joint mission. Their mission this time is to investigate the ruins of a settlement owned by the Alliance, which disappeared overnight.

"According to the reports, the settlement suddenly ceased all contact since a few days ago, as if they vanished completely." Reported a knight under Akane's command.

"What could have done this?" Aki Red says.

"Could it be… an apex beast?" One of Akane's subordinates says.

"Apex beast?"

"According to my brother, it is a high possibility. I mean, there are not many things in this world that can annihilate an entire city in a single night after all. We must be cautious." Akane remarked.

"Or maybe it was a nuke!"

"Idiot! Who would have nukes at a time like this?"

"I heard the Imperial Family has some! America still does too! They used to nuke their own towns after all!"

"Why would they nuke a city in Japan?"

"Uhhh… to kill an apex?"

"Back in America, when they used nukes to kill the monsters, the apex beasts actually survived, so it can't be that."

"Then what would've destroyed the Alliance then?"

"That's what we're here to find out. Let's go." Akane cuts off her subordinates' conversation to stop further mentions of the apex beasts.

Mentions of an apex beast, a monster more powerful than the rest, gave them a feeling of dread and affected their morale. An apex beast is an existence whose threat is much greater than the Doomsday Cult after all. To this day, there's not a single faction who has managed to defeat one, not even the Land of Light, who tried to create a gigantic fighter to do it.

As they approach the Alliance's base, they sensed the presence of several monsters moving as one along with the rumble on the ground. They know what that means.

"Doomsday Cult! Stay on your guard!" Shouted Akane, causing both groups to adopt defensive formation, a common tactic they used during the war against the Doomsday Cult.

They waited for the horde of monsters under the command of the Doomsday Cult to arrive… but after waiting for several minutes, they didn't come.

"They're not coming?"

"Perhaps their target is not us."

"What should we do?"

Akane's subordinates are bewildered by this turn of events. Suddenly, an explosion occurred in the distance and several monsters' magic disappeared from their senses.

"Akane-chan! They're fighting something! Let's go!"

"Right!" The group hastened their steps towards the source of the explosion. As they approach the battlefield, they saw a huge lizard-like monster with a reins strapped on its neck. On the beast's back is a hulking man wearing black robe and a grinning white mask. His right eye shines bright red. They recognized him as Astaroth, one of the higher ups of the Doomsday Cult despite never fighting him before. Astaroth noticed their arrival and yet his eyes are glued towards Akane, who find his glare somewhat familiar.

"Nishino Akane, I presume? Heh heh heh." Those words… the voice… she recognized him. Memories of her second kidnapping flood her mind and almost giving her a panic attack before Mari Blue snapped her out of it by holding her hand.

"Astaroth… I presume?" Akane found the courage to reply.

"Indeed. It is quite funny that despite being old friends we never met each other in battle before this. If only Mr. Stylish is here as well. While I'd love to sit back and chat about old times, we have a bigger problem to face right now."

"What kind of problem? Destroying the Alliance?"

"I would've been proud to say I destroyed the Alliance, if I actually did it but no, I'm not the one who did it."

"Then who did!?"

"That woman did it."

"Woman? Who is she?"

"See for yourself." Astaroth pointed out to the distance…and indeed they sensed an enormous amount of magic power possessed by a single entity there. To Akane, said power is similar in level to the Occult Killer's although weaker. Still, it is still huge enough that they're confident that none of them are a match for the owner of that power.

They sensed the presence of several monsters vanishing after another explosion occurs.

"If you want to see who it is, go ahead. I won't stop you." Astaroth says as he left with the monster he rode in.

"Hey! Come back! Face justice for your crimes!" Mari Blue shouted but he ignored her and left.

"Let him go, Mari-chan. We have to find out who he was fighting against." Akane says.

"You're right, Akane-chan. Lead the way."

The rushed towards the battlefield, passing through the mutilated corpses of several monsters and cultists on the way, which they noticed had clean cuts.

"What could've done this?" Aki Red says.

"We're about to find out, I guess." Shiina Green replied.

Finally they arrived at the battlefield. They were stunned by the sight they were seeing. A mountain of corpses, of both monsters and cultists… And standing above it is a woman… an extremely beautiful woman wearing white.

"Hey… is that…?"

"It can't be…!"

"It's her…?"

Akane held her breath. Never would she imagine that she would meet with her… a monster whose threat level is equal to the apex beasts… A monster responsible for the destruction of Arcadia, a settlement she used to live in before moving to Messiah… A monster with bright blonde hair.

"The Original Knight…!" She muttered the name as the blonde woman turned her eyes towards them.

Author's Note:

Long time no see. Had a waist ache which makes it kinda hard to sit and write. It's better now though. Now the plot thickens and a few new characters are introduced. What will become of Akane and the Mystic Witches? Find out in the next episode of the Presumed Akane in Shadows.
