Quantity often trumps quality. If you can make and supply ammo for 1000 muskets able to fire twice a minute for the same material cost as 50 cannon that fire every 3 minutes, the muskets will likely be the better choice.
Yes but you can shoot a stone wall an arbitrarily large number of times with the musket and it will stay up.

Awe... That's a shame, you could have bonded over the experience of being an icon of worship!

Wait, no. That was the Asari sex vampire.

It does make sense though since black heals tend to do so at the expense of something else, it's easy and more efficient to use the restoration and ordering properties of blue (admittedly more to do with the mind)and the growth and regeneration properties of green to do so without killing others, also spells using specific mana (such as W-U-G) do tend to be more powerful that a W-2
Kind of my point. He's not really gotten the hang of spells that while needing a base color to start up a process can then run on 'power, any kind of power'. You see those cards with numbers in a circle? Those numbers mean the amount of other mana you need in addition to the number of color/symbol clad dots outlined.

See this thing? It's got one red dot, and the number three in a second uncolored dot. That means Winter could theoretically summon this guy right here and now if he wanted to, using one of his reds, and any combo of his other lands. Once you've got the spell shaped, then you just use the other stuff as raw fuel for the process.

He doesn't know how to do that yet. He can't just use the power from his lands as fuel, he has to take it's inherent properties with them.

My guess is it's likely because all he does is small scale stuff. You need a big 'matrix' or some handwave/jargen to set up a sufficiently stable design for it to just take in the power as raw energy.

If TK is too hard why couldn't he use Iron Man method of flight and fire flames our of his hands and feet?

It probably would be a bigger bitch than learning to ride a monocycle, but should be possible.

Use a levitating platform to maintain flight and balance
Get to the HP 'verse, go east, and learn how to make a magic carpet. Or some other fantasy 'verse with enchantment as a magic carpet is easier, and has that classical eastern elegance.

I agree that Winter is a good aspect for a god, but your 'first commandment', well that brings the idea of arch-pacifism, as in "If my god commands to do no harm, I will not even defend myself, as my reward shall be great on the kingdom of my god."
That can be rules-lawyered: arch-pacifism without self-defense is harming yourself.

How about this as a commandment: "Do what you will but consider the consequences".

I know how it works, I have played since '94 : )

My point is that while there are mono-white, mono-green, etc damage removers what he's doing is a gold effect as he's using and refining his skill with the same combination of mana to make things go further, part diagnosis of what exactly needs done (blue), part direct heal of what won't otherwise heal (white), part regeneration to make sure it heals fully in time and quicker than normal (green).

Gold effects tend to be more powerful than Mono-effects of similar converted mana costs even if only in specialised circumstances. Mary could flood white and heal everything, but she's using everything to do that. Winter on the other hand has essentially with three mana maintained the combat effectiveness in manpower by using a more specialised and limited effect and taking time to apply it topically.

Given the place he's casting though it would be easy to add black to end the suffering of those who can't be saved and pass their remaining strength to those who can. Red might be able to be used to bolster the targets will to live, giving a little more time before the subject passes on if it's a matter of recovering mana/harvesting vitality to continue healing.

As someone who never really got into MTG... what is "gold"?
Basically there are four variations mana can be required by a spell (Which can be combined)
  1. The first is Mana of a single colour, whether it needs 1 or 10 it must be the same for that particular spell and it must be the amount required or the spell fizzles to no effect.
Such cards are the colour of the mana required.
  2. The Second is Mana of any colour, whether the spell needs 1 or 10 (or more) it doesn't matter the colours, the spell isn't picky as long as it gets the amount required.
Such cards, most commonly artifacts, are called 'Colourless'
  3. The third is when a spell takes a specific combination of colours in a specific amount to cast.
Such cards have a murky gold colour.
  4. The fourth is a spell takes a variable amount of mana, usually but not always of any colour.
Such cards fit into one of the previous categories when being described by colour.
Of course there are always exceptions.....

An idea for flight, rather than telekinetically lifting yourself, try using something else as a focus and levitate that relative to the earth. Like a harness. You could also play with the essence capture and familiar creation, essence of flight? An artificial flight construct like bird wings or the a tilt wing rotor from a plane? Or rather than anchoring to the earth, push against it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Mary is using White like a green lantern ring?

What exactly does colorless mean in this context?
Pretty much what's been said, some creatures are flat out immune to a source that is aspected to a particular colour, White Knight for example can not only not be damaged by a black source it can't be the target of any black ability. There are a few loop holes though if memory serves untargeted effects (basically a spell that says everything of a certain class such as all creatures, all enchantments, etc is hit) that remove from play still affect them.

For more worries what do you think the chances are that Mary knows Wrath of God? WW2 is dirt cheap for removing everyone nearby.

Hiver, why are you not stamping out the cult? It's going to be a huge problem for you in the future.

Most actions you're taking are contributing to an outsiders view of you as an evil overlord. You've given the Starks demonic fire weapons that make loud noises, you've set yourself up like a god, and you're bringing back the Targeyans with dragons along for the ride, etcetera.

It feels like you might be intentionally trying for this, from a writer's perspective.

By saying "Guys, I'm not a god. Stuff like this is relatively common."?
If you believe that would actually help in any way when faced with a religious true believer who he personally saved at least a limb off on a medieval world, i have a bridge to sell you.

Winter: Nope, not a god or divine being at all.
*turns around and heals a dying man, turns back again*
Winter: As you can see, not godly at all. This is a common ability. Honest.

Or other versions where he summons lightning, fireballs, monsters, and so on. Or the "Gift of Knowledge".

Seriously, Winter is in the "god tier" just with those things.

That's barely D&D wizard tier let alone god tier. o_O

As in mythological Greek or Norse Gods. Not the almost omnipotent ones from games.

And I haven't played D&D either, so I wouldn't know about them.
As man kept getting better and more powerful, we had to keep inflating the power of our gods in turn lest we outpace them.

Suffice it to say, the modern world would be considered the land of gods were it to be seen by the peoples of the past. Devices that move on their own, flight, instant communication, control over lightning/fire/cold/light, monuments that reach into the heavens, and these are just a few of the things available to any modern person.

Winter may not be a "God" by most industrial/post-industrial societies (though the lack of age, ability to do magic, and ability to move among different universes would certainly end with him being labeled as a "Divine" or "Demonic" agent most certainly), but he sure as hell is a god by the standards of stone/bronze/iron age societies.

The problem with Winter claiming he is not a god is the fact that he is clearly on the power level of a god, so he might as well be one as far as the locals are concerned. And really, who's to say that he isn't a god? If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, it's probably a duck.
