Hi, sooo, as I've mentioned to @PastaSentient and in the chat, I'm going on vacation away from screentime for about two weeks. I'll be on very minimally, and usually only at night.

@Oh I am slain! Pasta suggested that we work out posts together, because - basically, you can take on Hanabi as a bit of an NPC. I'll have more time over the next day or so, so hopefully we can get through the test, and then we can do some Hyuga training from there with minimal interaction.

Hopefully that's not a problem and I'll try to stay as connected as possible, but this is my break and I really enjoy it, so i'll be a bit off :)

Sweet, so I'm still going to have each genin do the demonstration, but I'm switching up the afternoon thing a little.

So what I would need from you:

1) A few bullet points summarizing what Hanabi does the next morning (I think Shino wanted to meet half an hour early, so 7:30am).
2) A paragraph or more about Hanabi's demonstration, which can be up to one hour long.
3) A few bullet points about how Hanabi would go about investigating the tests the other three teams received, and her thoughts about their tests.

If you only have time for one of these, focus on (2) first, since the other parts are easier for me to fill in.

Lemme know if you have any questions.

Alright. I'll try to let you know if I feel I can respond to something on my own or if Id like to work it out with you.

As it turns out, coverage down here is excellent. Better than at home, even. I'll answer these questions, but hopefully if Shino or Sakura can get us through this night interaction I MAY be able to actually do a post from phone. Hopefully. Anyway:
  1. I imagine Hanabi would be a very early riser, as would Hiashi. Typical Japanese stylings, fruit and grain breakfast, and a sort of preparation montage? It sorta depends on what Shino arranges with me tonight. But final look is something like this:
  2. Hanabi's demonstration will start with beginner through moderate katas for the Gentle Fist. Then, a water clone to demonstrate a bout between Gentle Fist users. Finally, a of the Byakugan's capabilities (seeing inside Shino, on Sakura's person, in Kurenai's bag, whatever) as well as my range and extended range - I.e., how far I can see in a sphere and how far I can see when I focus. Sphere is roughly 40 meters, focus I'll go at between 100/120 meters. Could be changed as I consult with Alpha and the GMs. Imagine something like the number of birds test that Neji does, or however. Finally, a basic demonstration of the Hyuga Clan's precision in character control and my understanding of Tenketsu.
  3. Not really the question, but think she'll be interested and impressed by Shino's bugs (which are very foreign to her), and impressed by Sakura's control and academic knowledge. As for the other teams... Shed just ask her father. A good ninja knows when to use existing intelligence apparatuses after all. :p
The most important part is her general attitude: shes aloof and firmly believes that the Main Family is better and that the Hyuga Clan in general is the strongest in Konoha. But inwardly, she can doubt herself, even if she won't admit it. She won't let the doubt stop her, and will often push herself specifically where she 'feels like hinata'. Lastly, she's never condescending or cruel. Shes not cool and calculating. Shes proud of herself and her clan, but she doesn't believe less of people.

Great! This helps a lot in case I have to fill in whenever you're all-in on vacationing.

Also, I'm inordinately amused by the inclusion of another picture.

I'll say that we'll definitely wait up to a day after Zedalb's post about arriving at the Hyuugas. Beyond that, it kinda depends on whether the rest of the teams have moved on to the next IC day. If Pebble is still away at that point, I'll handwave the rest of the night as 'Shino and Hanabi and Hiashi discussed many marvelous things', so y'all can fill in details at your leisure. :)

The hard finger strike to the center of the chest would've dropped a full grown man, possibly without the chakra emitted with it. Instead, the clone of myself stopped, its arms falling to its sides, its watery eyes opening wide. Then it melted, falling to the pebbles at my feet with a splash which I leapt back from.

Hiashi, who was sitting off to the right, watching the fight, opened his eyes. "Good, Hanabi. Your form will be permissible to show before your jonin-sensei tomorrow. We will continue after dinner. You and I will spar."

I glow with praise, my chest heaving from the exertion, but feeling good. My training wear is much easier to move in that the more flowing dress I wore on normal occasions, and I bow. "Yes, Hiashi-sama."

At that moment, a Hyūga ninja appears in a flicker - shunshin - and kneels before Hiashi. "My Lord, Shibi Aburame sends word and requests that his son, Shino Aburame, be allowed to come here to talk with Lady Hanabi. His son wishes to discuss their test in the morning."

Hiashi stands, and nods, and the main family ninja disappears in another flicker of shunshin. Then, Hiashi looks toward me, inclining his head slightly. "Go make yourself ready, Hanabi. We will invite the boy in for dinner."

I nod back, bow once more, then make my way off toward the baths.

~One Bath & Accompanying Readying Later~

I stand before the door, arms in opposite sleeves, trying to read the titles of the books in the room next to this one with my Byakugan. The same ninja had just reported in that that the Aburame was just leaving the other team member's home - Sakura Haruno - and would soon be heading this way. It would only be a few minutes.

I wait, and continue to attempt to read a closed book in the next room.


What do you think? Wanted to write something, as I probably won't have very much time tomorrow. Or I may. We'll see. In any case, fun :p

I arrive with a deep sigh. The clan I approach is of equal rank to mine, both of us noble clans and me as a heir should have no reservations asking to speak with there heir. It is simply while we, the aburame know our status we seek to uphold the idea of nobility, by being noble, a quiet reserved peace.

Where as the white eyes seek to maintain there nobility by constantly reminding everyone else of it. It is much like a child trying to convince everyone they are a great ninja, not by being great but by constantly screaming it. Not that I would ever look down upon them, we all have our faults.The last thought nearly makes me roll my eyes, but I am not one for grand dramatic gestures.

I sigh again, I debate toying with a henge just to see if they call me on it, and prove that they are watching me approach. Meh it is to troublesome as one old friend would say. I approach the gate and gently knock once, I know it is not necessary to do more and I wait to be brought to my team-mate.

The doors open wide, and Hanabi is already there in person, welcoming Shino in. She uses the most formal, polite greetings. Her elegant demeanor would make her seem like a divinely perfect host out of the legends...if it weren't for her smaller stature and younger age.

Unexpectedly, she also invites him to dinner with her family.

Thanks Kurenai-sensei! Browsing around a bit today. Not sure if I can make any posts if Shino does reply, but well see and I'll let you know. Phone has been near dead with no signal for a while now, so sorry about that. Looks like the only way im going to be able to connect here is by sitting in the internet cafe. Eh.

Anyway:

In Shino's post: the Aburame are noble by being quiet, the Hyuga are noble by... Acting noble, which is clearly akin to a screaming child :p better tell Queen Elizabeth.
 
@Zedalb Anything else you'd like to do while at the Hyuugas? Do you accept the dinner invite, or only chat with Hanabi?

@pebbleinthepond Are there any particular topics that Hanabi would talk to Shino about? Hiashi too, if Shino accepts the dinner invite (which I presume is likely).

Unless if anyone stops me, I think I'm going to unilaterally get started on the next IC day in 24 RL hours from now. Any remaining parts of the Shino-visiting-Hyuuga can be skipped past for now, then referenced in later IC posts.

We'll likely make the next IC day posts here in this OOC thread first. Arriving at Training Field 5, demonstrations, etc.

"Ah Hanabi-san, nice to see you again, I thank you for your kind offer for dinner it would of course be my honor to dine with your family, I regret only that we are leaving a team mate out"

I shrug lightly barely a movement at all.

"I have come to talk to you about our demonstration in the morning, I have decided since we are all most certainly an information gather team, to gather information on our Sensi as proof of concept to her. I have also decided to showcase resourcefulness and leadership by speaking to my team-mates on the matter so that they may ask there families and gather more information and we can put it all together to impress her as her team.Sakura and I will be arriving 30 minutes early to share and analyze information and I assume the Hyugga heiress would not let herself be shown up easily."

The last part is said with the lightest tone of jest and competitiveness, if Hanabi sees this as a challenge to prove her clans superiority to mine by gathering more information than I, than I suspect she will impress upon her father there is some pride at stake and she will get much more than she would otherwise, of course saying that would be foolish.

Hanabi bristles at the implied insult and blunt attempt at manipulation. She opens her mouth to retort and...wait. Was that a joke? Did Shino just make a joke? She rapidly replays his words in her mind. Hmm. It still was exceedingly rude of him to say that while she is welcoming him into her home, but...maybe he is trying his best to establish rapport? Aburame are the weird bug clan after all, so of course they would act weirdly. And her teammate did make an effort to visit.

Regardless, her father is watching, so she must handle this gracefully! She would impress upon Shino the magnificence of the Hyuuga through her poise and competence!

Hanabi politely thanks Shino and expresses agreement with his plan. She will gather some info about their sensei and will arrive at 7:30 tomorrow morning to share what she has learned. Though, internally, she frets that this will cut into the time she intended to spend preparing for her demonstration. As she leads him through her home, she has a light conversation with him about their initial impressions of the team.

Thanks @Zedalb! I'll stop there for now. Pebble has a much better grasp of Hanabi and Hiashi, so I'll leave it to him to flesh out what Hanabi and Hiashi would bring up during the dinner. I'll presume that it goes fairly smoothly? Or at least, Shino makes it back home in one piece after the dinner. Maybe 8:30-9PM by that point.

I'll put up a few words about Training Field Five tomorrow, so you and @UbeOne will be able to decide on how and when you want to arrive. Lemme know if there's any other info you'll need. I'll be busier from the 8th till the 18th, but I'll be around. :)

Awesome work Kurenai! I especially approve of the third person POV as opposed to first. Works well.

This would do a bit more than make her bristle - she would see it as a fairly ham handed attempt at manipulation and wouldnt approve. The whole tone of it would definitely insult her, because her clans prowess is not a joke either.

Uhmmm... besides that? On Leadership... I think that Hanabi would stay aloof from that. She's not going to let Shine command her... which is why she won't information gather herself, but rather through the clan apparatus. Also, I'm thinking that shell ask for detailed information not only about Kurenai but about Sakura and Shino. To show the power she has over them and their pasts. At the same time, she doesn't want 'command' of the squad either.

On an unrelated note, I think Shino's initial comments would make a naturally stiff/formal meal a bit chilly, but at the same time Hanabi's softer side would want to 'save him' a bit by playing more the hostess. But formal and a bit chilly.

Thats... about it for now.

Well it also an acknowledgement of there power or at least a nod to it.

It is said very dry (because shinos tone is an exactly 3 decibel range)

Or another way of putting it.

"I wasn't going to be a dick and make you and hyugga clan look bad by leaving you out as me and sakura impressed our sensi with team work and information gathering, because I respect you and your clan and its prowess"

A day ends. A day begins. The sun rises. Konoha wakes up. (Watchful night guards retire to sleep.)

A day like any other for most residents of peaceful Konoha.

But for the three new Academy graduates of Team Five, today is special. Today, they must prove their worthiness for a spot on the team. Through their relentless interrogations of their families and friends, they had each learned that all Academy graduates must undergo a test of their jounin-sensei's choosing, on their first or second day of joining the team. Any who failed would be sent back to the Academy. Their sensei had made no mention of this on the day before.

Thus, a tense mood hangs over Shino Aburame, Sakura Haruno, and Hanabi Hyuuga as they gather at Training Field Five. The three had agreed to arrive half an hour early, at seven thirty.

A stadium-sized sea of red flowers on low gently rolling hills. Near the western edge of Konoha. Encircled by the Konoha forest and a high fence of wood and wires.

Tada! Like I mentioned, I dunno what everyone's schedule is for this week. So I made this post to give y'all some time to decide on how and when you want to arrive for the IC post, plus plan out your up-to-one-hour demonstrations. Let us know roughly when you'll be able to post; we'll get started on the second IC day in this thread, then copy and paste compilations to the IC thread when the times sync up.

How do we know this?

Kurenai didn't say so.

I don't think the test is "mandatory" as the jounin could probably skip it if they wished.

Or for all we know we were already tested :p

Nah, it's mandatory in this AU setting, hence why all the teams are doing it. It's usually intentionally not mentioned to Academy students, but it's not some big secret either--family members would spill the beans if a new graduate asks them for more info.

Jounin-sensei can choose the specific form of the test, though.

(If this clashes with what other Co-GMs have already said, ping me. :) )
