The Journey Never Ends (Original Fantasy Quest)

[X] Plan: I Want It All

Difficult decision here. The Archons advance the Administrator's storyline. Towns & Villages might advance Aoki's storyline. The hidden laboratories clearly have something in them. Spiritually-active areas advances the Gūji's storyline. Old places advances Deirdre's storyline, and might be important for her to keep things together. I don't really want to cut any of them. If I had to, though, and I doubt doing going for everything is going to win...

[X] Plan: Essentials Only
-[X] Travel to the capital and investigate the situation there. You must take this action.
-
[X] Meet with these so-called "Archons" and take their measure
-[X] Check on towns and villages on the way for any survivors and set up Reflectors in those that have them

The Archons pose a threat to the city, and also might have information on what caused all this in the first place. Meanwhile, Towns & Villages is "a crucial step towards rebuilding the nation", and it doesn't feel right to send out a big expedition without at least trying to make contact with any survivors. It sucks to not do anything else, but it'd suck even more to skip either of these two.

[] Plan: Firepower
-[] La Encantada
-[] Paragon

Voting this because we'll need big guns if we do all actions.

Mmmm, I'm a little unsure in how much I should give away here. I can roughly say that they're all pretty powerful in their own right, and Deirdre has heard some things. She knows more specifics about La Encantada and the Paragon of course, and was around the Gūji long enough to know she exudes a powerful enough presence even if she has little idea as to her actual combat experience. And she also knows a bit more on what might happen with those three gone from Tsukishima.

Since Deirdre probably has the best idea of this character based on her assumptions(and what you guys briefly saw in the whale fight), I will say La Encantada is potential mushroom in a way with how her Ennui rolls work, and has the highest ceiling of probably anyone you've met so far. Though her floor isn't so bad either, in terms of pure combat and magic at least. There may be ways of reducing her Ennui debuff, or inadvertently increasing it that I haven't exactly revealed yet, and there's the fact she might make certain situations harder(but not outright impossible), but yeah.

Feel free to go with the plan though if that's what you want, I just wanted to make clear that if the main focus is big guns, the other characters can also suffice as well if there's someone else you'd rather bring in terms of character. Love the rest of the response/reasoning.

And I want it now!

[X] Plan: Even More Firepower
-[X] La Encantada
-[X] Paragon
-[X] Gūji

I think the Guji is well suited for the expedition as both a native source of information and another heavy hitter, so I'd like to add her. Since we're talking about an ambitiously large probe into what amounts to enemy territory, I'd be more comfortable with bringing three people than two.

...for some reason, I misread the update as saying we could only bring two people with us.

Nope, you can bring the whole gang if you want to. Or if you want to cosplay a certain someone, we can have a "Deirdre Alone" arc (not that she would actually be alone, but still). There's importance on the utility/mechanics of it all, but I'm basically giving the voters the choice of what they want see and have Deirdre do or interact with.

[X] Plan: I Want It All

I would prefer a plan that did the investigating of her people, but this seems to be the only one?

Just in case, if by her people you mean the elves, then let me say that isn't what's happening here. Deirdre meant investigating whether anything remains of her past adventuring companions that were Yashiman are lying around. She has a vague idea of where some of them settled down/had said they were from, but has no idea if any of it remains. Though if you were referring to her companions, then my apologies. I have... some idea of elves in Yashima, but for however much Deirdre does care about that sort of thing, she's the type of adventurer that cares a lot more for her adventuring buddies.

Vote Information Update New
Vote tally is kind of screwing up, but I've decided to leave the vote up for a week. It's a little long admittedly, but I think I want the time to plan out the last arc of the Yashima volume as well as something else. I've been wanting to start up a second quest for months now, but could never find the time to really start ironing everything out. I think I want to spend some time having a good first draft of it and see if anyone would even be interested since its been burrowing in my mind for so long now without anyone really to discuss it with. At the very least I want to get thoughts of it out of the way when I start going for the finish here.

I'll probably have an update though soon after the vote ends(hopefully). Have a look at some of the plans a few have voted on so far, and if none of them are to your taste, there's still enough time and voters for things to change. I've also answered a few questions and gave some information in some follow-up posts, but if there's anything else, feel free to ask.

Part One: Deirdre Pathstrider Wakes Up In...? New
Deirdre groaned as she opened her eyes. What in Orbis did she do last night? She remembered getting horribly drunk, stepping out onto the street and then… reacting too late to a vehicle speeding towards her. Looking down at her body showed no wounds, yet she distinctly remembered a strange explosion of light when the vehicle crashed into her. A twinge in her chest formed as she thought of the driver, most likely severely injured or dead from such an impact.

"Awake, are you?"

The last elf looked towards the voice only to widen her eyes and immediately scramble back on on her hands and feet, knocking over the bed she was on and getting tangled in its sheets. Silence fell over the room save for the deep, heaving breaths of the fallen elf. Deirdre must still be drunk, because what she saw wasn't real, couldn't be real. Calming her rapidly beating heart, she closed her eyes, pinched herself, and very slowly, craned her head to look at the speaker once more.

Another elf stared back at her with a dry, unimpressed expression.

"Are you quite done?

Deirdre slammed the back of her head against the floor once more as she groaned, "I must be drunk still."

"I wouldn't be surprised if you were just slow of mind, but yes. The stench of drink was thick on you when we found you passed out at the Imperial camp. The Men of the Empire must still be enjoying the sight of an elf in such a disgraceful state."

She rubbed the bridge of her nose as she sighed. "Alright, that's enough. This… this is a prank in bad taste. Whoever you are, know that while I am forgiving, imitating the form of my fallen people is a very poor jest I suggest you correct."

Silence fell over the room once more. Deirdre chanced another look at the "elf" to see him staring at her with a mildly confused and alarmed expression.

"I assure you," he started. "I am not… 'imitating' anyone. Are you sure you are not afflicted with some form of insanity?"

A pit formed in her stomach.

"No. No. You aren't real. By the Light, did I get kidnapped by some cult again? I should have you know, few illusion spells can hold me for long."

Her tormentor narrowed his eyes, alike but different enough that she knew that whoever was doing this was acting off false impressions. The impostor was dressed in some ridiculous-looking outfit no elf would be caught dead in, but he looked frail enough from what little she could see underneath it. Deirdre braced herself as he reached into the folds of his robes, only for him to draw out a tablet—her tablet.

"What is this?" he asked suddenly. "An interesting relic you possess, among other things."

Deirdre blinked. "It's a tablet. You… you can stop committing to the act. It's embarrassing now."

"A tablet, hm?" he hummed, turning it on and flicking through a few screens.

The last elf growled. "Enough of this. I gave you a chance to call this off, but still you persist. How dare you? The elves may all be dead, but so long as—"

"What?" The imitation hissed out as he stood up with an alarmed expression. "Explain, now."

She glared back at him, but something told her something else was off with the situation. "I have been the last elf for over a hundred years now. You see…"

The… other elf stared at her incredulously as she explained, but his expression turned more and more grim the more details she gave. Looking down at her tablet once more, he set it aside when she finished.

"If you did not have these items on your person, I would believe this to be some joke by a follower of Loec. No, this is too detailed, too elaborate… could it be some ploy of—"

"BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD. SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!"

Both elves flinched when they felt the battle cry reverberate across the room and across all their senses. All hints of confusion on the male elf disappeared while Deirdre sobered up immediately and began to sit up.

"Later. We will speak of this later. Are you able to fight?" he asked, wandering to the side.

Deirdre nodded as her strength returned. "Yes, where is my bow?"

He revealed the Hurricane and its quiver hidden in some wrappings and tossed them over to her before turning to leave.

"Wait," she asked, the last spark of hesitation present in her voice. "One last question, so I know this not to be a cruel trick."

A look of impatience is thrown her way, but he acquiesced. "What is it?

Deirdre leaned forward, intent on asking the one question only an elf would know how to answer.

"What is your opinion of the dwarves?"

His face twisted. "I am willing to work with them against daemons, but since I think I know what you ask… it is the view of most elves that the Dawi are petty grudgebearers both short of stature and short of foresight."

The last traces of tension dissipated from her body after his words. It seemed all was right wherever she was then, if a little different. She'd figure everything out later.

"Perfect," Deirdre said, standing up with a smile.

"Awaken then, Ladrielle's chosen. We have a daemonhost to burn."

Happy April Fools Day! Not really a story that fits the day perfectly, but it was a funny idea I came up with today so why not? My knowledge of both Warhammers are patchy, but hopefully it got a laugh out of you. I know enough that across all worlds and realms, the enmity between elves and dwarves remains the same.

I have to say, becoming a political centerpiece of an international relief mission is not something I imagined from what I saw as a not!Frieren quest.

The treant therapist was very cool.

I've just binged this quest and I just have to say 'Wow'. The details, the depths of both world building and characters, its all great and I'm loving it. Sorry, just had to gush about this. The story is great and I can't wait to see where this goes.

Don't apologize, this means a lot for me to hear! Its been getting more difficult for me to work myself up to touch up on some of the worldbuilding, so seeing this really encourages me. I sometimes worry I spread myself thin on a lot of it in addition to the characters, but I'm glad you enjoy them both.

Side note since I'm posting, but vote is ending in around 36 hours for anyone who has been waiting to vote. Might give another warning when there's around twelve hours left.

So... there's a lot of ties here. I'm ending the vote in 24 hours, so vote for an existing plan or try to get a new one going if none of them are to your taste, still up in the air! Remember, there's two plan votes here, one for what you want to do, and one for who you want to bring/leave behind.
