The indomitable human spirit vs a galaxy of angst! A warhammer 40k human god quest.

North where winds would whisper winter's songs of ice and snow
Where folks would trawl the ocean seeking hist'ry's ebb and flow
A hound would come to hound us, baying red in tooth and claw
But Odin, silvered Odin, stood against the rage he saw

Call upon the ancients, all the wisemen cried as one
To tell them their protection's needed for daughter and son
A bloody tide is rising, but our ships weather the storm
For naught and none shall take us 'fore we've finished oaths we've sworn

From Odin's halls, Valhalla, ride the specters of the past, (knowing)
One and all that here and now, each step may be their last
For they know that under Odin's sight and Hagal's silver hand
They'll give all to keep the future that they built upon this land

So come, oh raging hound, come claim the iron you are due
For the blood and bone of vikings are far more than you can chew!
Bite our bodies, claw our throats, but our spirit shall not break
For we're greater men and warriors than your red-handed fakes!

We've got silver in our bones and ocean tides within our blood
You'll get naught from us, our souls will never to your name succumb
Hunt the hunter, break the mutt, show that monster what is true
Man can shatter any beast, and one day we shall slay you, too!

  • [X] Naval push - You have been as successful as you have so far through your ships, use them further to launch an invasion point where chaos won't expect.
-[X] + Muster of the Dead: Those in our afterlife have already shown some will to fight the great enemy, and beyond those who would fight for purely ideological reasons there are also those who have living relatives they may seek to protect. Ask for volunteers from the afterlife to send forth as spiritual warriors into the fray. Rather than direct deployment, we will use them to Bless our most devout and fearless soldiers, attaching the soul of a willing afterlife member to act as their guardian angel. This combination will hopefully prevent the issues one might foresee by directly deploying forces from our afterlife, namely, the vulnerability their souls may have when directly incarnated onto the world, but by fusing them to a living person both sides are able to offer protection from threats the other is more vulnerable to. The flesh of the living protects the spirit of the dead, and the spirit of the dead is in turn able to protect the living by dealing damage to the enemy through more supernatural means than would normally be possible.
[X] Plan: the other things to look out for

--[X] + Northern Raids: so the followers of the Hound are gathering to attack or already fighting Odin, let's just raid them from behind; we aren't after wealth like gold or jewels, these wouldn't help in weakening them. Metals that can be forged into weapons, foodstuff, tools, forging equipment, anything that can be used to sustain a fighting force is what we will take away from the north. This will cause infighting between cultists for equipment and food, while Odin is likely fortifying locations or doing his own hit and run raid tactics.
-[X] + Muster of the Dead:
-[X] + Blessing of Silver and Steel: As we have always blessed the blacksmiths, let us lend them our favor once more, and from them, the guardians of hope shall be bolstered as well. Holy arms and armors shall they forge, and may the forces of evil suffer the flame of gentle men's wrath.
-[X] + Funerary Rites: Isis' people have their embalmment of their pharaohs, Apollo's people have burials, those that witness you and your brother's battle against the dragon upon the steppes embalm and cremate. regardless of which culture you across your territory, they all have a form of worship of ancestors or the dead, sanctifying said rituals could prevent the Crows touch upon the dead, preventing corruption or the raising of the undead
-[X] +Plague Doctors: in the countryside, roaming in large mobs and the forming of raiding parties are those of the Crow, they spread rapidly and have started the sieging many settlements, the likeliness of any bastions still standing are little but not zero; the smallest and isolated of hamlets and towns can hide away, and the largest of cities have great walls and education in medicine . . . but still, compared to the Asian and African continents their knowledge is lacking, things like bloodletting and leeches, grinding of infected scabs into edible powders are just as likely to cure a patient or cause further infection, not including the hound does not care on the how's, but only that the blood flows. These Plague doctors (made of volunteers, untrained or newly learned) are covered in thick clothing and are resistant to the mundane forms of the Crows touch, but this will likely cause him to focus upon them and turn them into vectors of infection of misinformed cures. Theres only one option, grant insight on how to cure disease, grant protection from the spiritual maladies their robes can't block, intuition to avoid cultists seeking their deaths and many other actions, these few men are what stall a lone fortress city from falling if they haven't been turned to Chaos. These few are pre-set sleeper agents deep in enemy territory that haven't been turned or killed by cultists. USE THEM WISELY
-[X] +Fortified coasts: while the crow's carrion lack the naval power to raid our lands, the hounds influence up north are raiders by culture, they don't need to have a strong fleet, just fast enough longboats to slip pass blockades; those of the east are too far to be attacked, and those of the south have few harbors land safely and the African continent has disease not of the Crow that prevent deep strikes into the continent, but that still leaves a few areas that are vulnerable if the hound turns his gaze down towards Isis and her people and that is unacceptable.
--[X] +More Adopted Kids?: well . . . the hound is stuck up north and the crow has been stalled around the south, Africa and Asia are safe (for now) . . .go and help more nascent gods and goddesses into manifesting, specifically the ones of War, Strategy & Tactics, life, death, nature etc. before Chaos has time to corrupt and subsume them (OOC: i just want to adopt Nzambi, teenage zombie daughter before Nurgle can attempt to do so)
--[X] +Fortify the New World: 2 continents that the hound and crow haven't reached but are able to corrupt, the hould by sending raiders across the ocean and the crow via disease between the 2 different people, not resistant to each others contingents, you have to inoculate both parties to stop the crow and fortify in preparation of the hound comes; Oh and don't forget to aid the nascent gods and spirits of the 2 continents (especally those of the south, those blood sacrifices are another vector to the hound)
[X] Break the siege - Will will have to ensure the safety of Constantinople, by cutting down the forces outside its walls you will have the perfect point to supply and launch further pushes north.
[X] Naval push - You have been as successful as you have so far through your ships, use them further to launch an invasion point where chaos won't expect.

Woo. So now we're doing the more complex plan. I am sorry for indirectly inflicting this on the GM, but not that sorry.

when you want to play with ley lines and geomancy to create magic land and architecture, and potentially awaken/ create a world soul for earth but realize your current plan already as 4 effective actions that chain with one another and can't add any more without having subpar results while the enemy is still on earth . . .

And the opportunity to make high magic fantasy earth is shrinking due to needing to protecting humans and baby gods from chaos, omega Sadge

YO WHAT THE FUCK

When I mentioned Omakes I was expecting like, 1 or 2 tops and then I get off work to see all this!

Crazy as hell, but trust me when I say I'm incredibly happy to see such dedication to an idea I came up with in the shower over a year ago.

Anyway, uh...voting will be closed at midnight tonight in CST. Cheers.

For some reason it reminds me of the lore of the Perfumers of Elden Ring

Out of curiosity, have you seen: A Song Of Peace: Imperial Regent Quest [40k]?

Out of curiosity, have you seen: A Song Of Peace: Imperial Regent Quest [40k]?

I've read a small bit, in fact I've read or at least looked into pretty much every Warhammer quest on sufficient velocity and Spacebattles.

I'd have to say I ironically enough prefer Fantasy over 40k when it comes to general writing, my favorite quest being an oldy 'Norsca United' by Ancusohm, has my thorough recommendation especially since it's actually FINISHED.

Regular story wise, I'm incredibly fond of an ongoing story titled a god adrift:Thorhammer by thewisetomato. Basically, Thor from the MCU is sent to the Warhammer fantasy universe following a different take on the Snap. It's actually a very well done crossover in my opinion, treating Thor with the humor that made him a likeable character while also giving him serious compelling moments I find the modern MCU mostly lacks. It's ongoing however, so mind that.

Both are great reads that I'm confident in shouting out for those interested.

I thought to make a horseshoe, and asked my hammer thus…

One year ago, Ophelia was an apprentice blacksmith, barely a few steps down the path.

He said, "I'll ask the anvil what you require of us."

Six months ago, rumors had risen of barbarian armies marching on the western thema. Oh, how naive they'd been, then.

The hammer asked the anvil, and she at once agreed

Two months ago, master Elijah died of the plague, and she was a journeywoman long before she wished to be.

That they should meet together in the way that I decreed

Today, Ophelia's world was on fire, and all she could do was try to slow the blaze.

And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong

"Arms for the front! Arms for the front!" A youth - barely younger than she was, in truth - ran down the smithing district with a wheelbarrow.

I am the blacksmith, singing the hammer and the anvil song

She handed off the five swords she had forged since the last pickup, and ten axe-heads. The varangians didn't gossip with the blacksmiths, but their words traveled regardless; if they hadn't been stuck in fighting the crow, they'd burn a trail north to protect their homeland from the hound.

I thought to make an anchor, for taking on the main

She could understand it. But this was her home, and she would fight for it how she could.

The hammer and the anvil relented once again

The child ran past, to gather more weapons for the soldier.
she was still a child. Technically.

So they sat there together, as I prepared the cast

Was anybody 'still a child' today?

They braced themselves for impact like a sailor on the mast

…Hagal give her strength. She prayed it.

And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong

And behind her, hammer and anvil glowed a soft silver in the steely light of the forge-fire.

I am the blacksmith, singing the hammer and the anvil song

So here's my small attempt at a hopefully not too terrible omake

| The plague doctors attend an emperor |

It started with rumors of the town called Pelusium . . a relatively isolated Town that was transformed into a living hell of plague . . then that hell made its way into the jewel of Egypt the great Port City of Alexandria and then that hell became more than just a mere rumor the great Port City fell into chaos madness and eventually . . Corruption
and try as they might no medicine could stop the disease and neither could prayer
and many of the people spoke of the end times and the wrath of dark divinity's and the afflicted died . . .or far worse lived and submitted to darkness
and so from Alexandria one of the great ports of the world and a center of trade that provided grain to the greatest cities of Eastern Rome
did the crow fathers black gift fester and travel from port to port
making it's way across the Roman world
And all throughout the Mediterranean world reports spread of joyfully grim diseased apparitions selling the waters on rotted boats bearing the twisted iconography of fallen Alexandria while diseased monsters and champions of the crow father stalked the land spreading their father's gifts with but a touch to all they could find and many many unfortunate souls did they find

and eventually even the great city Constantinople
Would be infected

First they had filled the cemetery's
then all the open land in Constantinople was dug up to bury the dead
then outside the walls they dug mass Graves to bury the dead yet soon those too were filled
and as everything begun to unravel eventually the bodies were simply dumped into the sea but soon the bloated bodies simply washed back onto shore
and in time they even took to filling boats with corpses and pushing them out to sea and so all throughout the Mediterranean world ghostly ships mend by the Dead who would not stay dead would find their way to the coastlines of the Mediterranean
eventually the people of the great City would even take to stuffing the bodies within Constantinoples own guard towers along it's great walls and when the wind blew it carried the stench of the decay over the once great City now made into a ghost town

And when the Dead began to rise it was only the quick and extreme action of the emperor that saved the city for even a while longer setting much of the very Town itself aflame destroying much of the city and staining what was not destroyed gray with Ash and black with soot
yet ultimately saving Constantinople from joining fallen Alexandria in damnation at least for a Time

And yet still the living nightmare would only get worse for . . The emperor . . Justinian would fall ill with the Crow fathers twisted Black gift and lapse into a coma while his wife Theodora was forced to take the reins of imperium in his absence to hold Rome together and well she did just that she also in desperation sent for her people to bring to Constantinople the plague doctors in order to treat the emperor

The few Fabled people who were the only ones to have even middleing success in curing the infected even then they're cures did not always work but at the very least those they treated that died stayed dead

And According to rumors these doctors who alongside their bodyguards were said to have undergone strange incense and concoction fueled rituals

That allowed them to glimpse the spirit world and afterlife and commune with both their Gods and their ancestors

For the plague doctors these strange rituals seemed to have given them a great Resistance if not outright immunity to the crow father's black gift as well as the abilitys and knowledge both mundane and mystical to give their patients a Fighting Chance at survival and recovery

While for their bodyguards these rituals apart from the same resistance to the crow fathers gift as the doctors

seemed to fill them with new strength speed and endurance enough to stand on near even footing with most of the crow fathers champions and monsters
especially those bodyguards who carried those strange glowing silver and Mercury edged weapons and armor they could stand on equal ground with even the exalted mortal champions of the crow father

Allowing their plague doctor charges to somewhat safely travel the crow champion and undead infested lands and seas between citiess

And if other less kind rumors were to be believed it is said that sometimes the ancestor spirits would even sometimes bind themselves to the bodyguards during these rituals though for what reason or if even true none know for the doctors and their guards do not share the secrets of their rituals with outsiders
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Plague doctor Asclepius sighde as he finished reading and suppressed a weary chuckle well he closed the book and tried to drift to sleep

Even with the world dying around them and Constantinople the very City they were in damaged beyond any precedence in history
The scribes of Rome could not help themselves but to write down history as it happened if nothing else they were truly dedicated he thought
but he pushed that thought aside for when he actually had time for it the journey to Constantinople had been dangerous and tiring
more so than most any other journey he had yet partaken in and the importance of success even greater yet still
For the emperor Justinian could not be allowed to die
And that's why close to 2 dozen other plague doctors apart from himself had made their way to this burnt husk of a city so that at least one of their number could attend to him at every hour of the day and the night while the rest rotated and rested

And he intended to get what rest he could while he could for the strand of the crow fathers black gift that had infected the emperor was more potent than most and would take weeks of constant attention to cure

And with that thought in mind Plague doctor Asclepius drifted to sleep hoping that he would not be one of the first among the rotation to be awoken so that he could be rested enough to do his job properly . . . He was not so fortunate

P S

Yeah In case anyone noticed this omake was inspired by the YouTube channel extra history's series on the reign of Justinian and his encounter with the black death or as it was called back then simply the plague
(if I've got my history right )

I tried to weave actual real life history into the omake as the timelines seem to match up with this being the first instance of the black death and Constantinople existing

only i realized too late the bit about how nurgles boys don't have boats after I had already written about them corrupting Alexandria
a wee bit of an oopsie on my part i admit
But you know what they say in for a finger in for an arm

I also wanted to show
(and I think I succeeded in showing)
That despite our interference while we've given humanity a genuine Fighting Chance chaos isn't a pushover either and could very well win if things swing their way
(Their gods too afterall)

I did try to lighten the mood at the end though with the plague doctors easy go take as it comes attitude
Lastly I wanted to give the what's going on up north the god babies and the Smiths and spirit possessed warriors a proper omake as well But ultimately I got too tired and consumed with plague doctor omake to have any energy left for those though I did manage to give the possessed warriors and the enchanted weapons made by The Smiths a decent bit of attention and a nice reference though

I hope you all enjoyed this omake it took me over two and a half days to write despite not being that long

Edit (yes the plague doctor's name is a reference to Apollo's son the Greek god of medicine if you caught that reference you are awesome)

I'll be honest, I was not expecting this sort of outpouring of omakes to happen when this vote started. But here we are. It's GREAT.
