@storybookknight I'd like to pick up a spyglass through the the 'gaijun gear' advantage. There's a note that mantis and unicorn clan members may purchase it for 4 points instead of the normal 5. Does being a tortoise give a discount as well?
I'm somewhat interested, but I don't have a character ready and I tend to take a while to make one, so it might not be done in time. We'll see. I'm thinking probably Shiba Bushi, Ide Emissary, or Kitsuki Investigator.
Is this going to be a combat-heavy game?
I'm interested. Is Tortoise clan allowed?
Which edition are you using?

TMW you open up the thread to work on your character sheet and another, even better character concept hits you right between the eyes.3) I'm going to be on the lookout for someone writing up a courtier. It'd be good to have at least one on the team.
Here and super interested, but with no firm opinions on what kind of character to be. Anyone have any suggestions for something not to complicated for someone who's not used this system before whom the current party might find useful?
Canon only, sadlyWill Clan Catfish be present in this quest, or is it going to be canon only?
Also, my first impressions after reading all of this:
2) Holy crow, I'm going to be running a Black Sheep Brigade.

4) Please make sure that the things on your sheet are well explained in your 20 Questions, or that you have a Backstory written up. Among other things, I'll be looking at what you put on the sheet for a writing sample.
However, it doesn't say anything more about Techniques. Just to double check, a character gets the first technique of his school for free, or am I totally off base?
I'm new to the system too, but I think Hida Bushi is fairly straightforward while still being very effective. Here and super interested, but with no firm opinions on what kind of character to be. Having the Kenjutsu skill doesn't mean anything. It's whether you carry your own katana that determines whether people expect you to fight your own duels or not.I'm new to the system too, but I think Hida Bushi is fairly straightforward while still being very effective.
I have a question of my own. If you have the Kenjutsu skill (Kitsuki Investigators have it as a school skill, for example), and thus presumably use a katana in combat, do you also have to fight your own Iaijutsu duels or can you still get a champion?

Well, I figured having it as a school means you're probably expected to be carrying a katana around. Although it seems the Kitsuki Investigator's outfit does not include a katana. Ah, that's nice. It only does 1k0 less damage than the katana too.Basically, if you are carrying your katana when you are challenged, then you are expected to duel for yourself. The Wakizashi also uses Kenjutsu, so you can get by without carrying your katana if you are concerned about being challenged to a duel.

If you want to be able to duel for yourself, or if anyone else wants to have their katana when their starting outfit does not normally include it, you/they can choose to start with it at no penalty. (Other than maybe getting killed in a duel that you are unprepared for.)
Maybe, but we already have twoish Hida Bushi characters submitted, and I'd prefer not to triple up on that. Currently working on a Yoritomo Bushi character.I'm new to the system too, but I think Hida Bushi is fairly straightforward while still being very effective.
People certainly can if they want to. Feel free to roll openly, or PM me and I'll roll for you so that it's secret from everyone else.
