The Grim Darkness in a Galaxy Far, Far Away - A Grimdark Star Wars Timeline

I'm guessing that will come in five or six chapters?
First I have to go through the exposition chapters to lay the general knowledge stuff out, then I have to go through the Tionese War, the Alsakan Conflicts, the Pius Dea Era, the Kumauri War, Waymancy Storm, and then the Hundred Year Darkness, so probably more than just 5 or 6 chapters

The Galactic Imperial Military
The Galactic Imperial Military

Planetary Defense Force: shortened as PDF, they represent the primary military defense force for an Imperial world, they serve the purpose of deterring enemy invasions long enough to proper Imperial reinforcements to arrive, the PDF varies wildly for planet to planet, from the Wookiee Tree Warriors of Kashyyyk, to the Twi'lek Resistance Fighters of Ryloth.

Imperial Navy: the primary space force of the Galactic Imperium, it is responsible for not only engaging the enemy in space warfare, but for also carrying Infantry Guardsmen to where they need to be.

An important part of the Imperial Navy are the Astromech Droids, semi-sentient droids tasked with the maintenance and repair of ships of the Imperial Navy, removing the need of constant organic mechanics around, they are kept in a semi-sentient state in order to prevent a hypothetical droid rebellion.

Infantry Guardsmen: the single largest military branch, and the backbone of the Galactic Imperium, it consists of billions and billions of unaugmented sentient species that serve as foot soldiers to be deployed in various war zones across the galaxy.

Imperial Troopers: the most elite and feared fighting force of the Galactic Imperium, they are selected from a young age and then genetically augmented and modified to be bigger, stronger, and tougher than the average Infantry Guardsmen, and then go through extreme mental conditioning to strengthen their resolve and loyalty to the Imperium, the beings selected for this position are typically humans, though other non-human species can be selected.

Jedi Knights: the militant branch of the Jedi Order, it consists of Jedi who took the path of war, and are often found fighting alongside Imperial Troopers, their weapon of choice is the Lightsaber, a sacred plasma weapon powered by a force-sensitive Ky er Crystal, which can cut almost anything.

Colossi*: colossal war machines of the Galactic Imperium, they are walking tanks piloted by Astrosyncs, recruits from Corellia or other Manufactorium world that, during the Ritual of Syncing, merge with the AI dormant within through a cybernetic interface, creating a cybernetic mind that controls the tank, it is done so that the AI within the tanks would not go rogue and turn against those it is supposed to protect.

Praetorian Guard: the bodyguards of the emperor, they are, like the Imperial Troopers, genetically augmented, albeit to a greater degree than seen in the Imperial Troopers, they typically stay in the Imperial Palace, protecting the incumbent emperor from assassin and other threats to him, though in the event of an Invasion of Coruscant, they would join forces with the PDF of the planet in order to ward the invasion.

Imperial Enforcers: the militant branch of the Imperial Security Force, they maintained law and order in the galaxy, and brutally and mercilessly punishes those who break it, they dedicate to apprehending and punishing criminals, of which they are the judge, jury and executioner, they occasionally join forces with the PDF of the planet they are on should there be any planetary rebellion to dispose of.

*: once again, thanks to @Archon7 for providing with some more inspiration.

Imperial White Hunters: A mixed force of Guardsmen and Troopers tasked with hunting down Fallen Jedi and eliminating them before they encounter and join any Dark Side Cult or worse, the Legion of Darkness. Armed with blaster rifles, electro-hammer/staff/batons as well as vibro-weapons and their most important and powerful weapons: sonic weapons. They produced high level sounds that incapacitate the Fallen Jedi.

There are several ranks within the White Hunters, with some not included:
Initiate: In-training members
Scribe: initiate who have been rejected after failing their test and becoming archivists who keeps details records of all Fallen Jedi they successfully hunted down or are currently keeping track of.
Hunters: standard troopers of the White Hunters
Huntsman: officers of the White Hunters
Heavy Hunters: heavy weapons specialist
Trapper: White hunters who has made traps for their Fallen prey
Hunter Captain: commanders in charge of operations within systems
Hunter Lord: White Hunters who manage to become commanders in charge of an segmentum
Grand Huntsman: the Grandmaster of all White Hunters.

(Purge Troopers but colored white)
(What do you think @AstralFists )

Interesting, I wonder if they have anything to do with the Black Guard?

The Black Guard was inspired from the White Hunters. The Black Steel Enclave don't have any White Hunters troops with them when they were first formed so they created their own version of the White Hunters.

Is there an Sister of Battle expy in this verse?
The Witches of Dathomir are close enough, given that they are an all-female warrior society, a force-sensitive one too, and I can definitely see the Galactic Imperium using them as mercenary to fight their battles

Imperial Information Service: the intelligence arm of the GI, they are well funded and generally used to either root out spies or infiltrate senators that are suspected to be treasonous. Led by the Grand Spymaster, they have bases and outpost all in GI territory.

Initiate: recruits, typically selected at 10 to 12 years old, which are to be inducted to a Legion, where they would experience physical training, at this point, they haven't any genetic modification, which would be achieved through the Gene Seed, a virus that modify the DNA of someone to make them bigger, stronger, and more durable.
Scout Trooper: Imperial Troopers in-training, they have now undergoing genetic modification due to the Gene Seed, and are now old enough to partake in military scout missions to improve their training.
Trooper: by this point, they now have completed their Gene Seed modifications, and are now trained enough to partake in regular military battles, they are the standard unit of the Imperial Troopers
General: the leader of an Imperial Trooper Brigade, and the first step up the leadership ladder
Sergeant: the leader of an Imperial Trooper Squad
Lieutenant: the leader of an Imperial Trooper Platoon
Captain: the leader of an Imperial Trooper Company
Commander: the leader of an Imperial Trooper Battalion
Legate: the leader of an Imperial Trooper Legate

A standard Scout Trooper

The Imperial Rangers: Bounty Hunters who has decided to work with the GI on a more permanent way. They are a specialized group with each member having their own skill set, similar to Jedi. This will includes sentient droid, which while illegal, are given Magisters who will maintain their structure and insure their loyalty and insure they will not rebel. Often working with GI officers, Jedi Knights, or even the Information Service, they are the best group in the galaxy.

(What do you think of them and the Information Service, @AstralFists )

Great job as always, though I will note that the Galactic Imperium would not be using sentient droids for bounty hunting

Imperial Traders: Smugglers that have assisted the GI in times of their need and have been given a permit where they can established their trading empire. There are a few rules with this permits that includes breaking their agreement, no hostile takeover of planets apart of the GI, turning over Sith artifacts to the Jedi (a replica will be made and given to the Traders) and no selling items to either criminals or Sith though exceptions will be made if they are assisting with raid operations or otherwise.

(Rogue Traders but in Star Wars. What do you think @AstralFists )

Interesting, I imagine Han Solo to be an Imperial Trader in this timeline
